Black Bear Deluxe Pizza GF crust Vegan cheese
Luca D.

Service and ambiance felt relatively quick. I got the Black Bear Deluxe (consisting of pepperoni, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, ground beef, mushrooms, onions, black olives and green pepper) on a GF crust with vegan cheese. The crust had a good crisp to it, and the classic flavors worked super well. Overall, not half bad for a gas station place.

You would never guess some of the best pizza I've ever had comes from a GAS STATION! Yes the ambiance is so demure here. lol We've been here probably 4 times now over the past couple years. Anyway this time we were in the area to help in the recover efforts after Hurricane Helene came through. I actually called to make sure they were open as many businesses were destroyed or affected in some way. The only problem they had was there soda machine was down but because of the water supply. So being connected to a gas station we were directed by the waitress to go purchase our drinks from there! So back I came with a case of soda to add to my delicious pizza! Did I mention the pizza is insanely good? Yeah so if your within an hour of this place, forget downtown Asheville pizza, come to the real deal and get ya a full tank of gas while you're at it!

Didn't ask for jalapeño- asked for a bbq chicken - I also got to go bc I'm in the truck - considering the mess this might make - we shall see I'll keep everything updated * After opening the box - Onions / chicken and bbq is all I've ever had on my BBQ chickens - not sure what type of slice is was -

Stopped to get gas at the Shell and noticed the restaurant so decided to see what they had so I could get some dinner to go. I decided on the club wrap with chips. I was thinking I'd get a bag of chips, but nope these chips were made fresh and must have been fried when I ordered them because they came out piping hot and oh so crispy. Absolutely delish. The wrap was amazing too. Staff was very friendly and place very clean.

Great pizza at a reasonable price. I had the bake spaghetti here before as well and it was pretty good. They also have a good lunch menu and the staff is nice. It's attached to the shell gas station but inside they have plenty of seating.

mushroom thin crust personal pan pizza

I ordered a personal pan mushroom pizza and a small Greek salad delivered. The feta salad dressing was perfect and the amount of olives, tomatoes and banana peppers was on point! So delicious! The pizza was like an old world cracker crust.. not hard, not soft, just right.. reminded me of the pizzas I used to get in the 70's as a little girl. Very good and perfectly flavored! And the personal pan is big enough that I have left overs!

We're in Asheville for the week and met up with some of my husband's family and get some much needed R & R. It was our first night in Asheville and we were hungry after a long day of driving. We searched for pizza as it's a family favorite and the search and ratings led us to Black Bear Pizza (BBP). - Noms - We over ordered for 5 adults and 2 kids, but better to have too much than not enough, especially when it comes to food haha... We ordered the following: *Large Tossed Salad (cheddar jack on the side) with Blue Cheese & Balsamic vinaigrette - this was a nice and hearty salad (without fillers). I can't stand it when restaurants fill up house salads with iceberg lettuce. Nothing wrong with iceberg lettuce, but they belong as toppings on other things. If you're paying a pretty coin for salad, I feel like it needs to be lush and green and that is exactly what this salad was. A beautiful mix of mixed greens, romaine lettuce, chunks of bright red, ripe tomatoes and red onions. The dressings were great too! *Baked Ziti with meat sauce, comes with garlic bread - hot and fresh with lots of cheese *Spaghetti with meat sauce, comes with garlic bread - kids enjoyed it. I stole a bite and I would have eaten some more had they not scoffed it down. Great size for 2 kids (and my kids can eat!) *24 chicken wings (Buffalo; Sweet Chili; Garlic Parm & Blackened with honey). They split the wings in increments of 6 wings for sauces. My fave was the Sweet Chili, but each flavor was great. Even the Blackened one with honey, recommended by the nice man who took my order. He warned me that they looked scary and truth be told, they do look a bit frightening (see pics), but they actually weren't bad at all. They wouldn't be my first choice, but it's always fun to try something new. You never know what can become your next best meal! The chicken wings were a great size and were cooked perfectly. Skin was crispy and the meat juicy. *Black Bear Special pizza XL sans black olives - I love this kind of pizza, doughy crust with fresh toppings. I would have probably left it in the oven for probably another minute as the crust was a bit on the light side, but overall, great pizza. It was great cold for breakfast and heated up for lunch days later. The nice man hooked us up with sauces! They were generous and gave us more than enough and the sauces came bagged in its own bag. All the food was packed well in paper bags, stapled and in another plastic bag. This worked out well because it was also pouring rain at the time of delivery, so it kept all our food nice and dry. - TLC - The man who took my order was super nice and funny! Their phones must be ringing off the hook with deliveries taking 45 mins on a Friday night, but I didn't feel rushed at all. He took the time to answer all of my questions and made sure to take down every detail like utensils, sauces, etc. The delivery guy was really nice too! - Things to Note - *there is a delivery fee of $5 *it took about 45 minutes for delivery (this was expected as they stated this at the time of placing the order) *at the time of this writing (July 2021), they offer a military discount. I always ask, but never expected and always appreciated! Thank you, BBP! *We happened to stop at the Shell/Citistop on Sweeten Creek Road for gas a couple of days later, and BBP is attached to it! Always check out locally owned eateries attached to gas stations. You never know what goodness you might find! We would definitely order from BBP again if we were staying in AVL longer, but we'll definitely be back when we come back to AVL. Stay safe, Friends!

When you pay an extra few dollars for a pepperoni pizza, you'd expect more than 6 or 7 pepperoni for the whole pie. Got a personal pizza and 12 wings and it was $29.00. Not worth the price. Tried to post a pic but it wouldn't work

Ask the Community - Black Bear Pizza

Does anyone know if it is still there? I drove by there today and it looked empty.

I have noted the same thing with Black Bear not appearing to be open for business. They are open but are closed Sunday and Monday. I also have had an occasional problem with their not answering the phone, I think they get backed up.

The salad was big - mostly chopped lettuce (love that it was chopped already) topped with some cheese, olives, green peppers and tomato slices. I don't eat my salads soaked in dressing so there was enough dressing for me but it felt like the dressing cup wasn't very full if you do like a wet salad. Breadsticks were good and airy. Lots of cheese on top. I preferred the pizza over the breadsticks over the 2 visits I had 3 types of slices. For speciality slices they top a slice of cheese with the toppings then bake it so the toppings aren't baked down into the cheese. Still good. Service, i waited at the counter for about 5 minutes before someone was off the phone and took my order. The Roman squares are made of a thick dough that looks like focaccia but is both lighter and crispier. They come in single 5" by 7" rectangles (spuntino, $8-$10), 5" by 13" pies (mezzo, $15-$19), or 9" x 13" party size portions (tutto, $30-$38). While you can build your own custom pizza, the default options include a Calabrian with pepper jam, a funghi & charred tomato, a sfincione with breadcrumb topping, a patate with potato cream, and a rotating special. A few dips, an arugula salad, cauliflower cacio pepe, and meatballs are also available. Wanting a few slices to commemorate Pi Day, my wife and I shared a Calabrian, a funghi & charred tomato, and a daily special. Ordering was easy, and Terra Nova's "green industrial" vibe (check out that moss wall) made for interesting ambiance. Our pizza was not cheap, but it was very satisfying, and Mission uses high-quality ingredients. The Calabrian offered a good combination of sweet and spicy while the funghi & charred tomato delivered creamy (ricotta) and smoky. The crust was done perfectly: crisp without being overly charred. There are many places in Asheville where you can grab a pizza and a beer, but none can offer you the same experience that Mission does. Unless you're a New York-style pizza purist, you owe it to yourself to give Mission a try.

I like the style of pizza and they have some interesting specialty pizzas. I just didn't love how the pizza we had only had a very small amount of cheese. It was also super messy, the pizza had breadcrumbs on top, which were good, but they went everywhere all over the table. We also tried the meatballs, which were good but nothing special. I am all about being eco friendly but the taste of the wooden fork ruined the taste of the meatball (not a fan of the popsicle stick type flavor when eating).

Almost every beer on the menu is a split batch fermented with two different yeast strains to showcase the resulting differences. It's a great concept, even if you're not into brewing. In terms of the food, it seems like the really leaned into providing something good, well-balanced, and sometimes takes advantage of the yeast and beer being cultivated on site. I had a house salad and some dilly beans for lunch. The house salad was fresh and extremely well balanced. I'm glad they had something vegetable centric available. The dilly beans were good, but quite a bit for a single human. They're probably the type of thing you would want to split among friends. I actually showed up for an event in the evening where they served pizza using dough fermented with one of their yeast strains. That was truly excellent.
