We tried the Wonton Mein and the Chinese Mixed Plate. The mixed plate had good flavor though we weren't sure if the meat was supposed to be served cold, it still tasted good! The Wonton Mein was okay nothing too special, but it did the job. Service was good friendly and efficient and portions were decent. Overall, a solid spot for local-style Chinese food. Do not eat the hot sour soup unless u want your blood pressure to sky and have a sodium attach; no bamboo shoots. . .I gave them 2 tries and never again. . .they add sweet chili sauce. We were spending the evening at the historic Iao Theater in Wailuku and decided to pick up dinner at Mike's Hong Kong Bistro (aka Mike's Restaurant, for some reason). Unfortunately, their large dining room is closed due to... covid. Well, I wish that was one word we could all forget. Anyway, the take-out option worked for us because our plan was to eat at the picnic tables under the Banyon Tree at Market & Vinyard. We ordered the Chow Mein with 2 entrees, Sesame Chicken and Chicken with Black Bean Sauce. Not very creative, considering the many menu choices, but they were available cafeteria style and we were in a bit of a hurry. No packets, but I could pour some soy sauce into a thimble size cup to add my daily requirement of sodium. Armed with chopsticks and several napkins, we were all set to enjoy our grinds at Banyon Tree Park. The Chow Mein noodles were flatter and wider than we expected, and the flavor was really good. They were close to the noodles in Chow Fun. The Sesame Chicken was sweet and tender. The breading on the white meat was perfect. The Chicken with Black Bean Sauce was heavy with Zucchini Squash, but that's alright because we could see it in the serving tray (WYSIWYG). The chicken pieces were dark meat and the dish was cooked perfectly with a savory black bean sauce that left us wanting more. Mike's takeout restaurant is consistent it has Cantonese style Chinese food and Light sauces this is from a former review I wrote about the food. The owner has changed in the last year, and the food has changed a bit. He has egg fo yong duck. He has less items with vegetables. The original owner actually had more vegetable based food. They have shrimp. I still enjoy it. I think it is a decent place for takeout lunch prices have raised recently but that's to be expected. The dining area is not used at time anymore in probably could be renovated but I don't think you go there for the interior dining area read more

I order delivery from Mike's and it used to be so ono. The sweet sour spareribs used to be so savory. Now their jacked up with salt and chilies. Whaaa?!? Best chinese food on Maui It was really hard to find a good chinese spot here but Mikes was a surprise. The Kau Yuk is perfect and meaty not too fatty. Their half duck is also yummy! With some fried rice and noodles of course. The service is always good, I call ahead and it's usually always ready in time when I pick up. Was walking around Wailuku and saw Mike's Hong Kong Bistro-theres no inside seating(because of covid) so everything is take out. It seems to be a popular place. The clerk was very helpful and explained what a couple items were I wasn't familiar with. They had pans of maybe 10 different items-priced for 1/2/3 entrées with chow mein or fried rice or you could order Ramen bowls. Since we were going to take it with us walking back to the tables at the banyan tree o Market Street we decided soup wasnt the best choice. We got the chow mein with sesame chicken and chicken with zucchini and black bean sauce. All 3 items were delicous! The chow mein was some of the best I've had in a long time. Both entrées chicken was cooked perfectly and chicken was very tender. He included forks and napkins we asked for chop sticks which he gladly got us. Very disappointed with this place. They had wall mounted "supposed to be awards" but food quality is not there. Claimed having the best Ox Tail soup... do not bother and just go to Tantte's or Zippy's for this. Or go to any local hole in the wall joints for authentic Hawaiian taste. Staff is not that friendly. This place used to be a go-to spot a lot back in the day. Lately it's one of the last resort stops or a nice to stop in when we haven't been for awhile. The food isn't horrible, depending what time of day you go the food may seem like it's been sitting a bit. My only downer would be the customer service isn't so great. There used to be the younger guy working the counter who was really friendly but now it seems to only be the husband and wife, don't expect any smiles. But the food is decent and the prices are pretty reasonable. I don't recommend this place as somewhere you have to stop in and try but they do offer some local Chinese faves that can get the job done. Mouth agape is how I looked as I left Mike's empty handed. I couldn't believe how I was treated!? My Saturday's work lunch is always out on the town as I have 1.5 hours to spare. On this particular day I thought of returning to Mike's for some noodles, specifically the gomoku ramen. As I entered the empty eatery, no one was behind the counter but my presence did trigger a door chime. I looked around for a soul for about two minutes. Finally, the owner Mike came from the other end of the restaurant. No smile, no eye contact, only a look of inconvenience with a "Can I help you"? As he made his way behind the food counter, I asked what kind of broth is in the gomoku ramen. He walks back the other way looking for something. With his back now to me, he annoyingly says "What"?! I ask again what kind of broth is in the gomoku ramen. He pointed to the picture menu of the shoyu ramen and mumbled something along the lines of "You should know" or "You ate this before". Not knowing what he said, I asked if the broth is clear. Irritatingly, he mumbles something but I did make out "pork bones" in the sentence. Before I could make a decision, he mumbles something again with an "I cannot help you anymore" at the end of the rant and simply walked back into the kitchen without a care in the world, leaving me alone at the counter. Stunned, I left and got lunch from another business down the street. Good luck to you, sir. Your restaurant is constantly empty, you have a 2.5 star-average Yelp rating (before I post this shiny, single-star feedback) and 10 measly business pictures that are years old sans for two of them. Your message was well received. I have removed the menu and food pictures that I posted since you could care less about your customers, let alone your business. On a special day I'll treat myself to their Oxtail soup which is good. I give it a 4 star rating because I enjoy eating there and the price is fare. The oxtail soup is the BOMB!!! Everytime I crave oxtail I always go to mikes. The man that works in the front is very nice also.

Ordered party platters, House cake Noodles with everything. Delish. Beef broccoli was ONO too. Called in the order. Guy was friendly over the phone and when I picked up the platters. Really, really disappointed this evening with the food from the new owners of "Mike's", since they took over in 2022. The roast duck tasted "old", not fresh. The beef broccoli was steamed broccoli topped with beef and ?store bought sauce. It was not stir fried/blended together. Mike's food is ok. But some ADVICE that would ATTRACT MORE CUSTOMERS, is make the serving size bigger. Lot of my friends complain the portions of food given is too small and they always leave there still hungry. I also agree. A generous size portion like how L&L at the Maui Marketplace started doing, will definitely bring in alot of the blue collar working group that have big appetites from the physical work all day, like me. Mike, start giving generous sized portions and you will see, you will have more return customers as well as new ones. It will be advertised via mouth and social media like Yelp.. Oh how I wanted to like this place better than I did. But alas my search for better than just OK Chinese food on Maui continues. I had a combo plate so I could try a few things at once. Chicken and black bean sauce, sesame chicken and a veggie tofu dish with chow mein. All were just ok and about as decent as Panda Express with the exception of the chow mein which was A-OK (which is why the 3 stars instead of 2). Affordable food. Edible but not great. It may be unfair to use San Francisco Bay Area standard to judge a local Hawaiian Chinese restaurant. But their lunch is really nothing to write about. Perhaps they have better menu for dinner, but we've been there only once, so I don't know. I don't remember seeing other Chinese restaurants on the island, so if you are craving for Chinese food while visiting Maui, I guess this is it. I ordered a BBQ short rib which was quite good. One of my kids ordered a wonton noodle soup. She whispered to my ear, "Can I not eat the wonton?" "Why?" "I just don't like it." We taught our kids since young age not to waste food. So whenever they seek approval from us to skip a meal, it is a sign for 1 star. I added back another star because I liked their short ribs. I asked if they had more Crispy Roast Pork that weren't out on display yet judging from the small size it would be for an order, but the was none.
