Banchan dishes, rice and lettuce for wrapping our meals.
    De A.

Upon entering the door, we had a very friendly smile and cheerful greeting, then were directed to a specific booth to seat ourselves. Our menu and waters arrived quickly. The quick service and constant smile were consistent throughout our meal. I ordered the pork belly and hubby ordered the fish stew, made with black cod, also known as butterfish. The banchan (automatic side dishes) were individual bites of flavors, some salty, some mild. The peanut? sauce which came with the lettuce for the pork belly are an absolute necessity as the pork belly was well cooked but had no remarkable flavor on its own. Together? Quite delicious. My pork belly's thin slices did not match the images on the menu or the wall. Hm. Romaine lettuce is not ideal for wrapping but it was clean and fresh. The onions beneath the pork belly were lightly sauteed, remaining crisp, and could be a bit undercooked for some people. I enjoy onions so it's no matter to me. Our two entrees could have fed four people. The portions were generous. If we were to come again, we'd split a meal. The fish stew was spicy! I loved it! Hubby did not. He is not the one for fiery food. Our server/hostess mentioned we could order it "mild", next time. I was secretly pleased there would be leftovers. His Korean beer was very light, close to a Bud Light, we commented. Our sweet hostess suggested a different beer for our next meal. I think she might have thought the Bud Light comparison was unflattering, but it was only a comparison. Overall, pleasant experience.

2nd time eating here. Food **** Ambiance ** Service *** Business Practices* I'm still puzzled by how they charge for their food. We had Kimchee Pancake ($25), Bulgogi with Japchae ($30) and Meat Jun ($30), totaling $85, but as you can see, they charged $89.70. They also charged 5% tax, when the maximum allowed Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET) is 4.712%. Our total, including GET should have been $89, so they overcharged us by $5.19. I tipped according to my calculation, not theirs.

I'm overdue for a date night. New places abound on Maui, but when we go out we want something not on the tired home menu. Lots on the go-to list, and this Korean BBQ fit the bill. Not only that, but it's something we do not cook often, or well. Its minutes down the road, and adjacent to the Lower Main St. "Gourmet Ghetto." Along the strip of first floor eateries that used to be adjacent to the now defunct Homemaid Bakery, Wow BBQ is right between Tokyo Tei and M Sushi. Lots of + reviews by local Yelp Elites, so it was on the list. You're greeted by white lace covered banquettes that give some privacy, TV's playing sports and colorful posters of food and menu specials. The friendly Mamas welcome you and provide suggestions. Pretty concise menu without descriptions, so you need to know a tiny bit about Korean BBQ. They have a variety of Korean beers, Soju and NA drinks. No keiki or dessert menu. The Banchan condiments were a nice variety with kim chee, lotus root, green beans, tofu, seaweed salad and mac salad. The crispy Seafood Pancake was flavorful with assorted seafood pieces cooked with the aroma of high temp fryer oil permeating the room. A sizzling platter LA Kalbi Beef ribs came on cast iron, with a bed of charred onions. Not overly salty, and lots of tender marinated pieces, it hit the spot, and a little went a long way with savory beef pieces trimmed with wonderful fat. Although there were no dessert selections, they dropped sweet chunks of watermelon to finish the meal. Next time, we'll try one of the Stews, Marinated Pork Belly and a Spicy Noodle dish.

The food was good, better than i thought it would be. I've had better, and I've also had worse. It's good for our island!

Food, ok, nothing special. Prices, expensive - $20+ average, Portions, small for the price. Service, suh-low-ooooo during peak times I suppose. 1 server who seemed overwhelmed but tried her best. Self-seating, which we did, acknowledged quickly but took about 10 minutes to get water. Menus on the table, which wasn't a big menu but took about 10 more minutes for server to take our order. Literally took 45 minutes from sitting to getting our food. They were out of some stuff and we were told that they couldn't make some stuff because it would take too long. I guess there was only 1 cook too. Definitely not what I expected from a Korean restaurant. Kind of disappointed with the selections available and my bulgogi and japchae turned out to be a soup, which kind of bummed me out. No taste to the bulgogi and it was glass noodles with no taste of either listed dish. I threw it away. Kim chee fried rice was also blah. Sorry, but I ain't going back to this place since it's not what I'm used to eating. Maybe it's like this in Korea, but I like my Korean food more Hawaii. 2 stars, and I'm being generous

Service was so good, we were 10 minutes late, we walked in and they knew I was the one that reserved via yelp I guess they checked my pictures but they were so nice! Food? I am a Korean food lover i usually go with bibimbap specifically if its my first time but we went with Pork Belly: this one was burnt for sure had this really bitter taste. Spicy Squid Stir Fry: Our Favorite this was gone in like 10 min I love how it had lots of vegetables, the flavor was sooo good too Spicy Cold noodles: This one was Ohkay I usually order mines at Ohana Karaoke but they have a new owner and it doesn't taste the same anymore. Anyways I'll come back for more and try new things next one will be the Jajangmyeon

I always love me some authentic Korean food. Service is very good. Not like other Korean restaurants where if you KoreN you get treated better. These guys treats locals good and welcome us in. That's a plus!! Food tastes so good. The music is not to loud so we can carry on a conversation without talking so loud. But most of the time the sounds are from TV Korean shows which is fine.

First, anyone under 21 is not allowed inside, so this is not a family dinner establishment if you have young children. Second, they charge for to-go containers, which is stated in the menu but not how much. We ordered takeout of green onion seafood pancake ($25), kimchi pancake ($23), and were told these were appetizers and therefore do not come with banchan. Fair enough. Upon the aunty's recommendation we ordered one LA kalbi ($34). Apparently they're "very big" pieces. She said she'll give us some banchan. We were told it'd take abt 30 minutes coz they were busy (restaurant was about 2/3 full at 6:45pm on Christmas Eve). The bill came to $91 + tax, so I presumed they charged us for some "extra" banchans. Fortunately the items were tasty. Despite being in the to-go container, the pancakes were not soggy. It'd hv been better if they had poked holes in the cover to let some steam out. The kalbi comes with a scoop of rice and banchans. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The dinner crowd seemed to mostly be ahjummas and ahjussis so the food must be authentic. The prices are a little on the high side though, for me. The unexplained charges were a little off-putting too. (I asked one of the waitresses who seemed flustered by the question. Apparently each container is $1 regardless what size.)

I'm so glad there's finally a good, authentic Korean restaurant in Maui! No more flying to Oahu just to satisfy my Korean food cravings--this place reminds me of back home. Everything was so good!! My husband and I went a few weeks ago (life got busy, so I'm just now writing this), but this spot is definitely worth a review. We went on a Saturday night around 6 PM, and there was only one other party there at the time. We ordered the spicy monkfish with soybean sprouts, intestine stew, seafood green pancake, and stir-fried spicy pork and squid. My husband's favorite was the spicy pork and squid, while mine were the monkfish and intestine stew. Everything was so flavorful and felt like true comfort food. The Korean lady who took our order was awesome--maybe speaking to her in Korean helped, but she made us feel right at home. I feel so lucky that Maui is getting more authentic Korean food options. The only downside is it is a bit expensive but I feel the prices are typical for Korean restaurants. We're already planning to go back soon!

I did a search on Instagram and came across this business Ohana Karaoke Cafe & Grill, for Korean foods. This is all for my other half since he is a meat Jun Snob, he loves his meat jun so I decided to check out this business for our 2nd lunch. Nice idea, Karaoke and Korean foods, great combination! There are tables for dining and about 3 Karaoke rooms ( small, medium, & large) Connie (owner) greeted us and took our order. She was super friendly, usually at the restaurants here on Koreamouku, I have to be extra nice so they can be more friendlier. *note, no complimentary water here at all, you can bring your own or purchase the water here. Our orders were the meat jun and fish jun combo ($19.) and it has been a long time since I last had my Korean noods, got the ramen noodles with dumplings ( $10.) Big portions, everything was enough for 2 even came home with leftover jun. So the verdict and I ask the other half, so Mr. Meat Jun Snob what is the ratings, he said "7/10 and the fish jun makes up for it". hehe. Even though I can fancy up my Korean ramen better with the fixings, the noods was a great fix, There were 5 ban chan, zuchini and broccoli was too salty but enjoyed kim chee and sprouts. It was nice enjoying Korean foods on Maui! The other half thanked me and I am glad he was happy with his meat jun fixed. If we are back on Maui for longer than 3 hours, we would def. be back again! The prices for portion size and quality is reasonable! Support this wonderful local business!

Food: We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, miso butterfish, garlic furikake fries, hamachi sashimi, garlic noodles, and crispy chicken. My favorite was the hamachi sashimi. What I enjoyed about this dish was the diced maui onion that offset the citrus from the ponzu. The flavors are light, and refreshing. The most disappointing was the crispy chicken. I thought it was too salty, but that's my preference and salt tolerance. The miso butterfish was also a great dish. The fish was buttery and flavored well. Not too saucy but the perfect amount of sauce. Service: Service is friendly, like most of the restaurants on Maui. The food was served in a timely manner. The ambiance is casual and felt like a bar restaurant. Overall, I'm not sure if I would return. After ordering 6-7 dishes, I wanted to be blown away by at least 4-5 of them, but that wasn't the case. We parked in a space marked Hemi's because that used to be the name of the business. They use portable, electric grills instead of the built-in gas grills usually used in KBBQ restaurants. It was one or two workers running back and forth to fulfill all the orders. One of the auntie's at the restaurant advised us to just take a seat anywhere and that's what we did. The chairs are a bit high, so we weren't seen right away, but once they saw us they got us a menu, water and asked us what we wanted. We chose from the menu: soondubu, kimchi jeon, and kalbi (which we didn't get but I'm sure they were overwhelmed and didn't notice since there was a big party). Just by observing the place and the orders placed by the bigger party, if you look around the restaurant there are other food items that you can order. We didn't know and just stuck to the menu, lol but a note for next time! Again, the seats are very high so we were waiting for our food for quite a while. But once they noticed that we didn't have our food, they apologized and got our food right away! First came the banchans, I really enjoyed them! My favorite was the fishcake and radish kimchi. Kimchi pancake had other vegetables mixed in, not just kimchi. I wasn't expecting the other veggies, but it was good nonetheless. Then the grill and meats came. It is a portable grill and each table has an extension cord to plug the grills in. Once the uncle came to our table, he got us started with the grill and meats and cooked for us a bit! The attentiveness and effort was there and we really appreciated that. We then got our soondubu. It was very warm, refreshing and not too spicy. Our once empty table was now filled with banchans, sauces, meats, and lettuce! Once all our food came, the nice auntie came over and apologized again for the long wait for our food. She had said she would give us the kimchi jeon as a "service" which kinda means "it's on the house" as an apology. We understood the busyness with the restaurant and short staffed workers, but we're grateful for the effort and attention they had once they realized. Overall we enjoyed our experience here at O BBQ! We left full and satisfied, but not over bloated! I know Oahu has all you can eat KBBQ, but all you need is some good food, good meats and good company to enjoy KBBQ on Maui! We are glad we chose to dine in and try this new spot on Maui. We'll be coming back again!

Our party of 10 had a bill of $392.61. To pay, I provided 8 gift cards consisting of six $50 gift cards, one card with a balance of $22.24, and one card with a balance of $14.28. I am certain of the balances on these cards before they were handed to our server. When the cards were returned, I only received 7 cards back, despite providing 8. The server also stated that I had only given her five $50 gift cards, which was incorrect. After I pointed out that I had eight gift card sleeves and that the numbers were not adding up, the manager became involved. A receipt showed a gift card with a remaining balance of $10.96. Based on the last four digits listed on that receipt, that card had not originally been returned to me. The server later brought back a card matching those digits and claimed it was one of the cards I had provided. However, I am certain that I did not provide a card with a $10.96 balance. The most frustrating part was not the money itself, but how the situation was handled. I left feeling that my concerns were dismissed rather than investigated. Even though I disputed the discrepancy, I still paid the remaining balance and left a 20% tip because I respect the restaurant industry and understand that hospitality is a team effort. I am requesting that GEN review the transaction history and security footage to determine what happened. I hope management takes this matter seriously because trust is important when guests hand over multiple gift cards or forms of payment. Unfortunately, this experience has left a lasting negative impression and has made me hesitant to return.

I really love katsu, so I got the Pork Katsu plate, which comes with a scoop of rice and your choice of side (I chose potato salad). I loved the crispiness of the pork katsu, it came nice and hot. The Japanese rice was carb heavy, just how I love it. The potato salad was good, although I typically crave a macaroni salad with my Hawaiian plated food. There was a huge line when I arrived, and I was afraid, very afraid. However, it was a bunch of people standing around who had already ordered (another sometimes bad sign). But, I actually ordered without any line, and those people quickly dissipated. My food probably came within 10 mins. In that 10 mins, we ate the poke first, then got our Ichiban order quickly after. The two restaurants are so close together by driving, that I would highly recommend pairing the two restaurants together, if you want to share food items, and try different Hawaiian things, without making an extra trek. Would definitely recommend it right after getting off the airplane too! I can't say it was worth driving here all the way from Kaanapali though, since there's nowhere to sit down. There's a parking lot right at the restaurant itself, and it's just to-go, but you are allowed to eat in the parking lot. So can't really say much about ambiance. The service was quick though, and credit card was allowed. Not bad.

Best chicken katsu on the island! Crust is always crispy and the chicken is moist and juicy…read more It's always busy at lunch. Best to call in your order.

Went for lunch - would recommend their oxtail katsu and kulolo crunch for dessert. Great place for a quick lunch or dinner.

I like the new location definitely easier for people to get to as the last location was upstairs with no elevator. One thing that has not changed is the food is still just as good if not even better than before. On this trip we had the Lunch Special which was the Waygu loco moco that came with white rice and Mac salad and two eggs over easy. The Wagyu burgers were perfect not over seasoned and the eggs were perfectly cooked. Still runny on the inside. I had the mis fish which was an ahi today. I liked the fact that the Miso was not overwhelming they got them mix perfect and the broccoli was perfectly cooked and it came with a scoop of white rice. Everything was perfectly done and just the right amount of food. The price is still reasonable for the quality of the food you are getting and the service was great even though there was only one waitress and she was doing double duty as hostess. She was very pleasant and the service is some of the best I have had on Maui. I like how the new place has a nice local feel while having that new but welcoming aura. I will definitely be going back because I like to support local and these guys are making some great food for reasonable prices. I definitely recommend these guys and I will definitely be going back. So much more menu items to try.
