Recommended by my travel companions, Wow Good has that neighbor gem vibe judging by the locals filling the booths. The menu offers all the familiar Korean comfort foods so we ordered soft tofu soup (there's seafood in it), kimchi pancake, meat jun and bulgogi with jap chae. Our friendly waitress brought our orders out in stages to keep the table from overcrowding. The kimchi pancake was easily my favorite with its crispy edges but softer center, served like a pizza in wedge slices. My dining companions devoured the meat dishes and we all slurped the spicy soondobu with spoonfuls of rice to cool it down. Note our table of four shared the three bowls of rice that came with the dishes but if you want more, you need to order the extra. The delicious meal concluded with a carafe of cold barley tea, which one person in our group commented that it tasted like coffee. Upon entering the door, we had a very friendly smile and cheerful greeting, then were directed to a specific booth to seat ourselves. Our menu and waters arrived quickly. The quick service and constant smile were consistent throughout our meal. I ordered the pork belly and hubby ordered the fish stew, made with black cod, also known as butterfish. The banchan (automatic side dishes) were individual bites of flavors, some salty, some mild. The peanut? sauce which came with the lettuce for the pork belly are an absolute necessity as the pork belly was well cooked but had no remarkable flavor on its own. Together? Quite delicious. My pork belly's thin slices did not match the images on the menu or the wall. Hm. Romaine lettuce is not ideal for wrapping but it was clean and fresh. The onions beneath the pork belly were lightly sauteed, remaining crisp, and could be a bit undercooked for some people. I enjoy onions so it's no matter to me. Our two entrees could have fed four people. The portions were generous. If we were to come again, we'd split a meal. The fish stew was spicy! I loved it! Hubby did not. He is not the one for fiery food. Our server/hostess mentioned we could order it "mild", next time. I was secretly pleased there would be leftovers. There was a huge variety of food and it was Korean food, but it also had a Hawaiian flair. I'm overdue for a date night. New places abound on Maui, but when we go out we want something not on the tired home menu. Lots on the go-to list, and this Korean BBQ fit the bill. Not only that, but it's something we do not cook often, or well. Its minutes down the road, and adjacent to the Lower Main St. "Gourmet Ghetto." Along the strip of first floor eateries that used to be adjacent to the now defunct Homemaid Bakery, Wow BBQ is right between Tokyo Tei and M Sushi. Lots of + reviews by local Yelp Elites, so it was on the list. You're greeted by white lace covered banquettes that give some privacy, TV's playing sports and colorful posters of food and menu specials. The friendly Mamas welcome you and provide suggestions. Pretty concise menu without descriptions, so you need to know a tiny bit about Korean BBQ. They have a variety of Korean beers, Soju and NA drinks. No keiki or dessert menu. The Banchan condiments were a nice variety with kim chee, lotus root, green beans, tofu, seaweed salad and mac salad. The crispy Seafood Pancake was flavorful with assorted seafood pieces cooked with the aroma of high temp fryer oil permeating the room. A sizzling platter LA Kalbi Beef ribs came on cast iron, with a bed of charred onions. Not overly salty, and lots of tender marinated pieces, it hit the spot, and a little went a long way with savory beef pieces trimmed with wonderful fat. Although there were no dessert selections, they dropped sweet chunks of watermelon to finish the meal. Next time, we'll try one of the Stews, Marinated Pork Belly and a Spicy Noodle dish. read more

Self-seating, which we did, acknowledged quickly but took about 10 minutes to get water. Menus on the table, which wasn't a big menu but took about 10 more minutes for server to take our order. Literally took 45 minutes from sitting to getting our food. They were out of some stuff and we were told that they couldn't make some stuff because it would take too long. I guess there was only 1 cook too. Definitely not what I expected from a Korean restaurant. Kind of disappointed with the selections available and my bulgogi and japchae turned out to be a soup, which kind of bummed me out. We tried to go to this "restaurant" but upon opening the door, the lady pointed to the sign on the door that said no one under the age of 21 allowed inside. It doesn't state that anywhere on their website. I guess I missed the notice that restaurants with a liquor license aren't allowed to have persons under 21 inside. They also charged 5% tax, when the maximum allowed Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET) is 4.712%. Our total, including GET should have been $89, so they overcharged us by $5.19. My wife was craving Korean so we figured that since this was our last day here, we might as well go check it out. For us, this hit the spot. This felt like your typical Korean restaurant with posters on the walls and the ajumma's taking your orders and bringing out your food with a smile. We got the kimchi pancake which in our opinion was really good. Great crispy exterior with an interior that was cooked to perfection. Her tofu soup was the right amount of spiciness. First, anyone under 21 is not allowed inside, so this is not a family dinner establishment if you have young children. Second, they charge for to-go containers, which is stated in the menu but not how much. We ordered takeout of green onion seafood pancake ($25), kimchi pancake ($23), and were told these were appetizers and therefore do not come with banchan. Fair enough. Upon the aunty's recommendation we ordered one LA kalbi ($34). Apparently they're "very big" pieces. She said she'll give us some banchan. We were told it'd take abt 30 minutes coz they were busy (restaurant was about 2/3 full at 6:45pm on Christmas Eve). The bill came to $91 + tax, so I presumed they charged us for some "extra" banchans. Fortunately the items were tasty. Despite being in the to-go container, the pancakes were not soggy. It'd hv been better if they had poked holes in the cover to let some steam out. The kalbi comes with a scoop of rice and banchans. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The dinner crowd seemed to mostly be ahjummas and ahjussis so the food must be authentic. The prices are a little on the high side though, for me. I'm so glad there's finally a good, authentic Korean restaurant in Maui! No more flying to Oahu just to satisfy my Korean food cravings--this place reminds me of back home. Everything was so good!! My husband and I went a few weeks ago (life got busy, so I'm just now writing this), but this spot is definitely worth a review. We went on a Saturday night around 6 PM, and there was only one other party there at the time. We ordered the spicy monkfish with soybean sprouts, intestine stew, seafood green pancake, and stir-fried spicy pork and squid. My husband's favorite was the spicy pork and squid, while mine were the monkfish and intestine stew. Everything was so flavorful and felt like true comfort food. The Korean lady who took our order was awesome--maybe speaking to her in Korean helped, but she made us feel right at home. I feel so lucky that Maui is getting more authentic Korean food options. Probably the worst restaurant experience I've had. I should've taken it as a red flag when what looked like a state inspector showed up counting how many people were inside, and the server quickly moved a chair to hide it like they were trying to avoid getting caught breaking the rules. Really uncomfortable to witness. To make things worse, they added a charge to our bill for takeout boxes. There was nothing anywhere saying boxes cost extra. We wouldn't have even needed boxes if our food hadn't arrived so late. We tried to cancel because it had already been about 40 minutes, but they wouldn't let us -- then the food came when we were basically already done eating. On top of that, the food itself was disappointing and overpriced. Charging $26 for shrimp fried rice and serving only three tiny shrimp is ridiculous. Overall it felt like a ripoff, and the taste was average at best -- honestly below average. Definitely wouldn't come back. read more

It's definitely on the pricier side but there is literally no other soon tofu soup options so it's still cheaper than flying off island when a craving hits. The service was great! Never tried cold noodle soup but that tricked my mind like crazy. The broth looked clear and flavorless but it was so delicious. I really enjoyed that with the chewy noodles. The La Kalbi made me see the birth of the universe. That thing was ridiculous. I'm still dreaming about it. I've never had Kalbi so soft and disintegrated before even chewing. We also tried the vegetable stir-fry with shrimp because my wife wanted to balance out all the meats but I'm not a vegetable guy. It was still tasty. The reason for coming was to try the tofu soup but we didn't even try that so we'll have to come back. I've came here twice around lunch time. Food is great, I've been ordering the Squid and pork stir fry. They have many other good options as well such as their bulgogi and japchae, kimchi stew, etc. Although food might take a while to come out, it is worth the wait. Portions are well within the price they are sold at. Waiters are very friendly and offer you tips and help when you need it. It is a nice place to dine in with friends and family to catch up. Found out about Wow, Good through my fellow Yelp Elite Curtis T. and I am so glad he tipped me off of this Korean restaurant as I never usually go in the area where the restaurant is located. It's a hole-in-the-wall spot in a kind of 'parking garage' (best way I can describe it), located near M Sushi and Tokyo Tei. Upon walking in I could hear the ajummas speaking Korean and had high hopes. They have booth seating, maybe 12 or so and there was an ample amount of seating when we got there. When they offered boricha (barley tea), I got really excited. Haha. We had a group of four and ordered the pork belly, jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), seafood pajeon, and kimchi jiggae plus all the banchan. The pajeon was really good -- not overly greasy and good flavor. The kimchi jiggae also had good flavor. The pork belly was my favorite of the bunch. It came with lettuce and some doenjang (miso paste). The pork was so tender, perfect bite sizes for lettuce wraps, and had just the right amount of spice. I am definitely going back for this dish! All in all, I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was really good and we left completely stuffed and still had some leftovers. The service also really good, fast, and friendly. Came across this place on Yelp and a great recommendation from fellow Yelper Maria sealed the deal. This is a small restaurant on Lower Main Street near Tokyo Tei. There is lots of parking available. There are lots of booths inside for seating. The service is very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the spicy squid, beef with vegetables, sweet sour pork, and fried mandoo. The meal came with rice and 8 different types of banchan. Everything was really good! We especially enjoyed the sweet sour pork that came with sauce on the side so you can add as much as you want. The spicy squid wasn't spicy so you may want to ask for more heat if you like it that way. Sweet watermelon slices were served after our meal which was really refreshing! I have been to this restaurant about 5 times in the past couple months. It is located on Lower Main Street a few doors down from Tokyo Tei. This is currently the best Korean restaurant on Maui. It is on the expensive side when compared to LA or Honolulu, but is in line with other Maui restaurants. There is ample free covered parking. Their panchan is made at the restaurant and reminds me of a home cooked meal. Some items are higher priced than you would think, so look carefully at the menu. Ja jiang mein and naeng myun are the basic staples of this restaurant, but their meat items are tasty. If you feel like you want to splurge, their osam (ochinga and sam kyup sal) is a combination of stir fried belly pork and squid in a spicy sauce. The cost is $45. read more

I was unsure of what to eat tonight and suddenly craved Korean cuisine so violently. With the hours late at night, this place was the only authentic restaurant open and it was less than 5 mins away. I knew I wanted to try their spicy soups and mamasan recommended the silken tofu soup which also had mussels and we also orders the Kalbi. The soup was extremely comforting, tastes with so much love, Kalbi demolished! And the banchan was perfectly seasoned, not overly salted, just enough to compliment the ingredient. We ordered soon tofu stew and stir fried spicy squid. Soon tofu stew had a lot of seafood and tons of flavor. Not too spicy. Stir fried squid was also really delicious. Not too spicy or too sweet and had Tons of tender squid and veggies (zucchini, carrots, peppers, and onions.) The side dishes (banchan) were plentiful and authentic. Service was friendly and prompt as well. Plenty of parking. Yes, one might say price is high but everything on the island is expensive because they have to be shipped in. We had the Seafood Pancake, the Soft Tofu Stew and the Beef with Vegetables. We wanted noodles but were told that the cook "wouldn't be cooking any noodles today!" Odd, but not a deal breaker. We had a small booth near the entrance. It was somewhat private, cool and quiet and we enjoyed a pleasant 2 hour lunch. The banchan, or appetizers, were plentiful, almost like having a fourth entree. Rice was included. The waitress was friendly and checked up on us without hovering. The main dishes came within 15~20 minutes, pretty quick considering the restaurant was busy right after opening for lunch. Each dish had its own distinctly unique flavoring which we appreciated. Entree's were about $25 each so expect that it isn't cheap but it's worth the price! There are only 10 booths so know that you may have to wait outside sometimes because they don't take reservations.
