LATE NIGHT "PLATE LUNCH" STYLE CRAVINGS? This is one of the only places I know that serves the plate lunch style type of food late at night. I have been going here for years, way back when I was in high school. All of us young kids would come down to eat here after a long night of partying "legally for our age". This is one of the top of my list of "must try" places off the beaten path. If I did a restaurant show, this would be on it (except then everyone would come and it would be ruined). The food is FANTASTIC. Plus, there's a massive novelty factor. Miki's is my secret obsession. Don't judge me, but yes, I drive all the way here from town to get this late night snack. I'm a pretty large eater, but I recommend to just get the mini, whoa, they feel it up to the max! My favorite is their meat balls and roast pork. And my moms favorite is their lau lau. For the portion you get for the small, it's pretty worth it. I really appreciate the staff, they are so hard working. I remember coming here back in the high school days and the party days, and they are amazingly still here providing their ono kine grindz. The staff work so hard being here almost everyday cooking/prepping especially odd hours, imagine their sleep patterns. There was a small line when we arrived which turned into a crowd after us. Folks who live in the area seem to know where to go for some good eats. My son and his future family in laws wanted some true Hawaiian food and on the Fourth of July after the fireworks - where does one go if you want authentic food? Miki's seemed to be the place and everyone enjoyed and said that it was all tasty. There was a selection of chicken, beef and pork served with rice and noodles. It was a pleasure today to stop by after an evening movie to pick up a bite to eat. I ordered a mixed plate of pork guisantes and teri meatballs bc I had not had those dishes from Miki's in a long time. I am very happy that their portions are still very generous as I could of make 2 meals out of one. They did however raised their prices a little as it costed $10.75 or so for the mixed plate. I think that last time I ate there years back it was only $9 or so. However it was good to eat there again and if I am hungry for a late night plate lunch in the Pearl City area, I will try Miki's again. One of the perks of moving? We get to try all the new places near by! Yay! We tried this place at about 9:30 the other night, and I decided to get fried noodles, a side of pastele (which is what I thought I got haha), and my bf got a mini meatballs with gravy (they didn't have the teri ones he wanted to try), and cornbread. FRIED NOODLES: not too greasy, and the noodles were cooked perfectly.. and only $3.50 I believe for a pretty big portion! MINI PASTELE: (this was 3.50 or 3.95.. I can't remember) so I thought it was just a pastele. Nope! It came with 2 scoops rice, and a lot of mac salad! Mac salad was yummy, and pastele was pretty good too. CORNBREAD: this was actually really good and moist, and the ingredients are labeled..I would love this with some honey butter.. yum! My bf liked the gravy meatballs.. but have napkins! They overload the container so the gravy gets everywhere lol. We also tried the PICKLED ONIONS since I saw people rave about it. At first, it has a sweet vinegary kick that pairs with your mac salad and rice.. however, it does have a strong onion taste so if you are not a fan of raw onion (like me), this may not be for you. I noticed that other than the specials they have for the menu that night, they also have sweets like butter Mochi, pumpkin Mochi, and other sweets I wasn't quite sure what it was, spam musubi, and drinks at $1. After a long night drinking with the boys we decided to get something to eat. Nothing was open but one of my friends recommended Miki's and I honestly didn't know what that place was. So we decided to go and as we got to the area I seen a long line of people ordering from a little window. Got out the car, stood in line, talked to the aunty in front of us and she said she comes here all the time and ordered almost everything on the menu. Then there I was looking at the menu on what to get. First timer and all my friends recommend the Teri meatballs. So I ordered the teri meatballs with pork adobo because we were all hungry and since it was my first time I might as well go big and get a mixed plate. Cash only and price on the wall is the price you pay. Nothing more nothing less. Food came out fairly quick and it was time to grind. Let me tell you the meat balls are something else. I can see why people like them so much. The adobo was different compared to many different style adobo I've eaten before but it was good. Plate also comes with rice and mac salad. The food was great and if you're looking for a meal late night, or after workpartying or just want to eat something else than fast food or other late night food places; then you should try Miki's. read more
