This place is currently at the top of my list for best sushi place in northern SD. They have a great selection of rolls and sashimi, and their fish is always tastin' fresh! It was pretty poppin' for a Wednesday night, with only one table open left inside (was just freed when we got there) and one outside. We tried their oysters today and they were sooo plump and fresh. Dragon rolls are always on our order list with any place we go to, but somehow this place is able to do it better than others. The Samurai (spicy tuna & shrimp tempura inside, seared salmon on top) we've had before too, and it wasn't as good as other times we remembered but still decent! The baked salmon was decent as well, and the seaweed salad was a lot bigger than we thought it was gonna be. They also have a few vegetarian rolls, which are perfect for my mom. She got the Veggie Tempura roll for herself. We also ordered the EPA (another one of our favorites) and the 3 type sashimi, which was taking awhile to come out. When we asked them about it, the waitress forgot to input them in the system but saw them on our order menu. She was very apologetic about it and asked if we still wanted them or if we wanted them taken off. We were actually already pretty full and satisfied and asked them to get taken off and she went to get our check. When she came back, she gave us free mochi ice cream (one of each flavor - green tea, mango, vanilla, strawberry; cut into quarters) and apologized once more. 5 stars all around for food and service! :-) read more

I typically avoid leaving negative reviews, but this experience was particularly disappointing. I visited this Mikko Sushi restaurant for a Father's Day lunch with my family of four. The place is clean and well-lit, with plenty of staff, including many young employees, under the supervision of two owners/managers. They had pretty good reviews on Yelp and other review sites. We wanted to give it a try. The food was delicious, but the service fell short. The sushi/sashimi/cut-rolls/hand-rolls ordering sheet was confusing. Even their server admitted it. We did our best to fill it out and confirmed our order with a new server, who frequently had to ask others for answers. (That should have been a warning sign) The server read our order back, and my wife confirmed she wanted two orders of soft shell crab hand rolls. The server even re-confirmed it verbally. However, 15 minutes later, we received cut rolls instead. When I informed another server (as ours had left), he removed the incorrect order from our table. Shortly after, he returned and informed us we had to keep the cut rolls because that's what the order sheet indicated. I explained that the previous server must have marked it incorrectly, but he still placed the unwanted dish back on our table. Frustrated, I asked to speak with the manager. One of the owners approached us with a confrontational attitude. She offered to refund one of the orders, blaming us for the mistake. I reiterated that the order sheet was confusing and the server had verbally confirmed our order. Despite this, she insisted on their policy that "you get what you ordered." I explained that it was our first visit, it was Father's Day, and we had relied on the server's verbal confirmation. The manager, clearly annoyed, said, "I don't want to argue with you." I then asked if she could make an exception to ensure a positive experience on Father's Day, emphasizing that I was willing to spend more money as long as the orders were correct. I even asked if she wanted to review the tapes/security cameras to see what was going on previously when we ordered from the departed server. Reluctantly, she removed the incorrect plates and agreed to bring the correct hand rolls, stating it was an exception. She restated that "I don't want to argue with you." Eventually, our hand rolls arrived, but no one apologized for the inconvenience. Not a single sorry for the mishap and faux pas. I left right after finishing the meal with my family. The focus seemed to be on turning tables and closing tickets, rather than providing good to great customer service. While the food was good, the poor service left a lasting negative impression. I feel ownership and management ought to attend hospitality management and customer service training. Perhaps customer loyalty and brand building is not of importance? I would have given them four stars, but this experience deserves a lower rating. As Maya Angelou said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This place made me feel like defecation hitting the oscillator on a special day for Dads. I might consider takeout in the future, but this visit left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

The restaurant has seating both indoors and outdoors but we had called to make a reservation for indoors, although it wasn't too busy anyway. The service was great and the food was even better. We ordered a ton of things and everything came out fairly quick. We were trying to finish plates so that we could make room on our table! Everything was really delicious. All the seafood, raw fish, and rolls were fresh. There's a large variety of rolls and we ordered too many to count but we enjoyed them all so I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The oysters were also a steal! $6 for 4 BIG oysters so definitely get those. We also got hot foods like seafood yakisoba (which was a big portion and had good flavor), yellowtail kama and black miso cod which were tasty as well. One of my places to go to and they have it in Escondido! I've been here a couple of times and I'm super happy that they have it in this area. I would usually go to the Vista area since their sushi is super good but I'm glad I can just go here for some sushi. Only downside I have is parking for this area since it's located at Downtown Escondido. It'll be either street parking or finding a public parking spot to park. It's not that bad if you visit during their off time but it's usually really busy during lunch or dinner peak time. I usually get their sushi rolls when I visit here and some appetizers but I decided to go for a bento box since I came here during their lunch special time. They let you choose whether to sit indoor or outdoor. I decided to sit outdoor since the weather was nice and they have the place pretty shaded too so the sun wouldn't be in the way. I absolutely love their seaweed salad and the salmon teriyaki (w/ California roll and mixed tempura) bento box is super good! If I'm ever free during weekday lunch, I'll definitely visit this place again to go for their lunch specials since the price is pretty affordable for how much you get. The only real complaint I have for this place was the cup they had for the hot tea. the metal cup was so hot, I couldn't even drink or hold the cup. The gals and I had a girls night in. We weren't sure exactly what to have (allergies, picky eaters, non-sushi eaters). We decided on Mikko Sushi. We debated over deliver service, or actually driving the 1 miles (eeeekies) to go get it. We determined we could actually leave the house. We used the app from Mikko. Which is THE way to go. They let you know when they receive the order, give you an estimate when it will be ready and it's pretty right on the money. You could call, but.. it was a Friday and in all honesty we talked on the phone all week and we didn't want to talk to anyone but our gorls We ordered: Fried Chicken Gyoza Baked Muscles Spicy tuna wrap Samauri roll Rainbow roll Chicken curry bowl with brown rice 1 Hana white peach sake 1 Mio Sake It was fantastic! And BEAUTIFUL!!! There was one roll, that the girls were just breathing fire over. I don't know which one. But they literally took a bite and went into what I would call "Lamaze" breathing. They said it was fantastic!! A bit hotter then normal, but fantastic!!! I chose to have the Hana white peach sake with dinner. What an excellent choice!! I am not a huge Sushi eater, yet I know great sushi when I see it, and this is it! This is so amazing I invited TallGirl (who LOVES) sushi that we should plan a dinner here soon, and invite dad too. Ordered from this establishment via a delivery service. I chose the salmon cut roll, yellowtail cut roll, albacore cut roll, and two orders of nigiri (smoked salmon sushi and ikura/salmon eggs). When the order arrived, for some reason, it was divided completely into 2 servings (each plastic container had half of each roll, 1 nigiri, etc.), which worked out great for us because we were only 2 people, but I imagine it would have been annoying if 3 people were sharing. The food itself was pretty good. The fish pieces were fresh and ample portions on each bed of rice. The ikura (salmon eggs) were also pretty fresh, which sometimes isn't the case with other sushi establishments. Only one complaint: PLEASE DO NOT PUT WASABI AND GINGER IN THE SAME TAKEOUT CONTAINERS!! Sushi ginger (gari) is supposed to be used as a palate cleanser to be eaten between different types of sushi. When you combine the wasabi and ginger in the same takeout container, it ruins the ginger for that purpose. Please separate these in the future for takeout orders. Other than the wasabi/ginger issue, the experience was pretty good. Affordable sushi with a decent quality for the price. I would probably order from them again. read more

I've been in Escondido local for years, and this establishment has never disappointed on any of my visits! Mia was the manger in that day, and she was an absolute joy. On my latest visit, this Sunday evening, I was seated within seconds, the place was tidied up and cleaned (as always) and there was someone servicing us upon the minute . The music was a good vibe, the pothos plants around the dining area were elegant, and the staff were all kind!! We got the Pipeline roll, Carlsbad Roll and The Tiger roll; ALL FRESH!! My family and I have been coming here every other week for the past 2 years. I realized I've never put in a review yet. Let me just cut to the chase and say, the owner and all the staff are always so kind. The restaurant is always clean and they always do their best to seat people as fast as they can whilst providing A1 customer service. It definitely has a nice vibe inside the restaurant. The food is always consistent, and somehow improves more and more each time we go. We've had a few nights where we witnessed them encountering 'fun' guests, yet they still remained amazing. Terrible customer service, rude owner, they do not care about food safety. We purposely ordered our food for 4:00 pm. They prepared it far too early, and we were very concerned about raw fish sitting before we were able to pick it up. The owner did not seem to understand that not all customers live within a 10 minute radius and that we need to drive to their restaurant which means that the food would be sitting at unsafe temperatures. The owner called us back to harass us for asking them to remake it for the time that we actually placed it for? They admitted that even though they give the option to place an order for a specific time they ignore this and prepare it when they want to.
