Quite sad. We drove from far to try out this dicho place. Literally planed kids sleeping time around this schedule as we needed to have them go out in order for us to go out on a quick mini-date. Arrive to the location and 9:29 and on the window it states last call is 9:45P and closing is 10:00P. We were ready to go with what our order was and as we walk in a server rolls his eyes, walks to what seems the manager and the manager whispers something. The server then comes over and stated they closed 3 min ago. At 9:25? Why does it state everywhere 10:00P is closing? My husband shows him the time and the manager just shrugs his arms and that's the end of it. Ruined our date night! Super disappointed & sad. read more

Mikko sushi ESCONDIDO is my new favorite sushi place in North County. I've been holding off visiting here because it's a bit more expensive than the places we usually visit. However this was a good opportunity to splurge for a special occasion. The decor is brite and clean. The food was delicious and fresh. The downside was that there seemed to be no specific waitress assigned to our table. We needed someone to make sure things were right. In our case Items were missed, table wasn't set right, had to ask for basic things from the bus boys ( they did a great job). Seemed like waitress service was by committee. - Higher quality and you can taste the fresh ingredients. - The deep fried Philadelphia Roll was surprisingly decadent. - Love their chicken yakisoba. Loaded with fresh vegetables. - Weird green iced tea - price / portion seemed reasonable. Tabu sushi had larger portions, but it also cost more. - Definite upgrade from Sushiya. read more

Okay THIS is one of my favorite sushi spots ! When I can I pickup but door dashing is nice too. Tonight I got a side of miso which is a must ! The dumplings are the best ! My favorite rolls are the Escondido roll and the crunchy shrimp tempura. It's so affordable and delicious. Great sushi but.. I've been to many sushi places and I feel like everywhere else I've gone has had better service. Staff are forgetful and don't check up on you. I always tip at restaurants because again, everywhere else I've gone has been excellent service and friendly staff. But I can't bring myself to tip here. I've been coming here since 2020 and I recently switched to dining out as the service is consistently the same, high school kids that don't know how to give guest quality customer service. I've had jobs as waitresses in the food service so I defiantly know how it goes and sometimes we have those stressful days. But to have the same type of people hosting is honestly disappointing. Visitingc area and decided to try Mikko Sushi. WOW! Food was delicious. Edamame was fresh and plentiful. Chicken teriyaki bento was delicious. California rolls melt in your mouth. Tempura batter is delicious and not oily or soggy. Sushi combo was delicious. Big pieces of fish and not a ton of rice. Everything was delicious. Restaurant and restrooms very clean. Totally recommend this spot to anyone in area or visiting downtown. read more

I am not able to give more details on the atmosphere because my daughter bought this for my birthday and I was working that day so she had to order it to go. Sushi is much better as it comes out but everything I order was amazing! I ordered the stuffed jalapeño and baked salmon both I knew would hold up in the 5-10 drive back. My daughter asked for extra wasabi and there was none at all. The topping were all in ramekins which was good but I did not have time to go back on the website to see which ones went on top of what rolls. My daughter ordered 4 rolls she and her boyfriend enjoyed. Definitely going to try this place on a day I can sit and enjoy it there at the restaurant. I will definitely update my experience then. Man what's not to like? I've been coming here with my family now since their reopening from COVID and I got nothing but nice things to say. I gotta start with the older gentleman who works kind of like a floating server?!? He recognizes us everytime we come in and makes sure to stop by our table to ask how we've been since the last time he's seen us (it's the little things). The space is not all that big and the restaurant might benefit to take a table out but the atmosphere is nice. It can definitely feel cramped at times, especially when all the tables are sat, but restaurant as a whole is very clean taken care of. Side note, they also got 2 tvs over the sushi counter that are consistently showing whichever sport is on for the night or sportscenter so I can appreciate that. The food is a little pricey but that's what you get when you want high quality, good tasting food! It's to the point where I go and order a roll blindly because I have so much faith in Mikko and their menu!! All in all, this is an awesome restaurant which I do plan on returning to soon! read more

Disability Community, listen up!! They are getting 2 stars PURELY based on the fact that their food is good and fresh. I placed an online order through their website last weekend and chose the option to pick up my food at a certain time (I ordered 1.25hours before I was to pick up the food). Unfortunately, as I was driving to pick up food at a restaurant near this Escondido location, I noticed there was a street fair going on (that I did not know was going on that day). I am disabled and i was unable to find a parking spot within the distance to their restaurant that I am able to walk. I called the restaurant (with plenty of time before my order was to be picked up) and I asked the employee if there was any way they could meet me in my car around the corner from their restaurant/the closest location my car or I,on foot, to their restaurant. The employee told me no, that they cannot do that. I again repeated that I am disabled and unable to walk the distance to their restaurant from the closest parking spot available to their restaurant location. Given that they were unable to accommodate my request (which I could understand), I promptly asked to cancel my order (approximately 30 minutes before the time I scheduled for my pickup) and stated that I would like an immediate refund as there is no way I can get my food. I was assured my order was cancelled and I would be refunded the amount I paid/on my receipt to my credit card. Today, I was looking at my bank account and noticed that the charge was still on there-i was never refunded the money. I called the restaurant immediately to go over this so that I can get my refund. I had the order number, the date and time I placed my order, my credit card number, and the online receipt through clover I received after placing my order through their website. The manager was EXTREMELY rude to me. He told me that my food was made and I never picked it up. That he would not reimburse me. It was my fault I didn't pick my food up-basically "too bad, so sad, I don't give a flying fuck if you're disabled, that's on you." I explained the situation again, told him that I was disabled, that I was assured that my food had not been prepared (it's sushi-you don't make an order 30+minutes before pickup) and that he would promptly cancel my order. I asked the employee twice to make sure that my order was cancelled and that I would be refunded (always smart idea to verify something like this multiple times!!). I told the manager that I repeated this question twice to ensure it would get done and we were on the same page before I hung up. The employee I spoke with repeated again that it was not a problem and he is sorry that they couldn't accommodate my disability. The manager very rudely repeated that it was my fault that I didn't pick up the food. He would not reimburse me. We have friends that are regulars there and we have joined them for dinner on numerous occasions. The food is great (the only reason they got any stars at all!!!) But this is disgusting business practice. Now I have to go and fight it through my credit card company. Not only have they lost a group of regulars, I will also be notifying others in the area with disabilities of this interaction. In the disability community, we take these things VERY seriously. It's a big community and the word is out and we band together to support others in our community. This very easily could have been handled with no need for escalation. I was calm, respectful, and provided every piece of information about my order that they asked for and I was (not joking at all) laughed at and told it is my own fault and that they refuse to reimburse me. Pathetic that it came down to filing a dispute and me having to warn others in the community that they are not supportive of the disabled in their community. Anyone reading this review who may have questions, I am 100% open to and willing to answer any questions in further detail regarding this apalling event! Mikko sushi-you may want to look at the ADA laws and see how you can help accommodate those with disabilities appropriately. We are worth it (though you very clearly STATED AND IMPLIED we are NOT!!!)!!! read more

This place is so good! I ordered the gyoza for an appetizer which were pretty decent. Then I ordered the Toro (Tuna belly) and my goodness it was delicious! Perfectly slices and so juicy! I also ordered the deep fried Philadelphia roll and the Escondido roll. The Philadelphia roll was pretty decent! Nice crunch and reliable flavor as always! The only thing I didn't like was the way it was cut on a slant.. this always makes it harder to eat.. The Escondido roll was also pretty good to, the rolls named after the city they are in never fail! Over all a great experience! They consistently filled my water and the servers were very kind! An abomination - Don't believe the hype. This is some of the worst sushi in SoCal. Almost every 'Specialty Roll' is slathered in eel sauce, spicy mayo, siracha, or soy mustard, usually more than one. We've been searching for a replacement sushi place since the Mikko in Carlsbad closed down a few years ago. We are so happy to find their location in Escondido! Just as we remember from before, the service, ambiance, and (most importantly) the food are wonderful. The variety in specialty rolls especially is awesome - there's something to please every discerning appetite. We now know where we will be dining when we are further east in North County San Diego.
