The lady who provides the drinks and service was very nice, but the food was mostly cold and not appetizing. I was hungry but immediately after trying my food I lost my appetite and started feeling sick to my stomach. I went to the bathroom and the bathroom made it even worse with its smell (their sink was also leaking). I got sick in the bathroom and payed and left immediately after. It seems cheap for a buffet, but was overpriced because of the fact that I couldn't even stomach their food. Now that I'm home I have a headache, I feel overheated, and keep running to the bathroom. The lady working at the front told me the discount is "ONLY" for University of South Carolina students and i am very displeased by this. I told her it specifically said 20% off discount for College Students, not a certain school. First of all, she said the sign outside advertising the discount said "USC ONLY" which is a lie! The purpose of my study was to see whether or not the service you receive varies on the price you pay for your service. Ironically, I decided to visit a low budget oriental buffet. With discount places, you receive discount service. There is a higher expectation that is expected when one pays more for their service. Customers generally don't expect high customer service from places low-end discount place. However, customers tend to expect high customer service from places such as Disney cruise lines, and Nordstorm. My mother and I just got out of class, we were hungry. So, we decided to journey onto the Millennium Buffet through car. The buffet is on Blossom Street, right beside USC. The 7 deadly sins regarding hospitality. Faced with coldness, when we went inside, we were not greeted by the front desk clerk. The server suffered from apathy, she seemed very jaded and standoffish. However, I did not expect much customer service from a discount buffet where jaded employees are overworked and underpaid. We paid $6.99 ($7.50 after taxes) for the buffet, so I am not heartbroken or devastated by the service (or lack off). What can service can you expect for a meal under $8? The most awkward situation about the server is that she did not feel like walking over to our booth to give us refills, rather she wanted us to give her the cups, while she was reached over the booth. I found it to be very tacky, and strange. However, I was highly entertained by how poorly ran the establishment was. It was obvious that the buffet was a mom and pop organization due to the low funding. The front of the house employees (the clerk, and server) had very little empowerment with the back of the house (the chef). The front of the house should have told the chef that the food was old, cold, and has been sitting there for hours, lack of communication. From a tourist perspective, I would not recommend going here. The most difficult aspect about decent customer service is that it's intangible. It is something we cannot purchase, it is not available to anyone, and it is not guaranteed with cash unlike a physical/tangible asset. The water tasted like tap water from the sink in a rural area. The restaurant only had one surveillance camera; the décor was very off and tacky. Green chairs, with red carpet. The floor clearly was not swept in hours. The ice cream machine was half-way working; the ice cream came out so slowly and in a struggle like manner. The noodles tasted like toilet water, I would stay away from those egg rolls. The rice was extremely greasy and cold. If you have dry skin, then you could easily lather your skin in from the grease and soy sauce that was drenched in it. The parking lot was not clean at all, it looked a mess. Proper sweeping and cleaning should have been a priority; even the mailboxes for the newspaper outside looked dusty, crusty, and old. Generally, a parking lot can be one's first impression of a location. I instantly got bad vibes when I got out the car and seen the parking lot. The signage was very off putting as well, it did not say "CHINESE FOOD" rather "CINESE OOD". I am well aware that I am being overly critical, but where is the pride in your place of business where you can't even fix your signs? We arrived around 2 PM; the food looked like it was sitting there since early morning. The hot wing section had large drum sticks drenched in buffalo wing sauce. The building was poorly lit, over half the lights were off. If you're highly entertained by torture, travesty, and a poorly ran business, I'd recommend this place. For some reason I keep going here. It's not the worst, but it certainly isn't the best. If you're close to the University, and are looking for a rather cheap buffet it's usually pretty good. I must admit, there have been a few times where I was speeding back to campus to find a bathroom. I'd say 90% it's alright, my biggest complaint is probably the service. Found a hair and hated the food: This was the worst Asian food I have ever eaten. The restaurant is sticky inside (humid and the tables were not cleaned at all). The air conditioning was broken inside the restaurant, though, which may have contributed to the humidity in the room. The food was the greasiest and slimiest food I have ever had. It was not greasy in the good "American" way. The food was actually dripping and slimy from the amount of grease. The buffett is huge with several selections. However, the food is reheated and not seasoned. The noodles were clear and white, completely unseasoned despite being "Singapore noodles." Finally, their service is horrible. When I told the waitress about the hair I found in my chicken, she just shrugged and took my plate away. She did not offer any explanation, apology, or even take that dish off the buffett. She also forgot to refill my beverage throughout the meal. The woman who checked me out was polite, but also did not say anything when I asked if the chicken was still on the buffett for others. Overall, I think this is the worst Chinese food ever. I do think that their delievery would be better than eating inside their restaurant, but I would still never order their food/eat there again. I've been back again for takeout a few more times (just to see if they were consistent with their ways), and I must admit, their takeout is fabulous! It's cooked to order, and is always piping hot! I find that amazing because I know other buffets who just take their food off the bar, and put it in the takeout containers. They, on the other hand, do not! Also! Bland and under seasoned. The service isn't the best either. While I was getting in my car I noticed the back kitchen door had what looked to be black looking mild or something all over the door.
