The restaurant space has a simple farm to table vibe: wood floors, dark wood furniture, and lighter colored walls decorated with modern artwork. There are a few tables outside too, complete with propane heaters and umbrellas. We have been coming here with our kids since they were in highchairs. The rotating Waffle of the Month specials have always been a hit with them. The menu offers a lot of flexibility regarding component selections and preparation. Favorites include the Smoked Salmon Avocado Benedict, the Iron Miner's Scramble (eggs, red potatoes, bacon, caramelized onion, black beans, and gravy), and the Lake Grove Breakfast (omelet or scramble). The food is tasty and high quality, as are the coffee and the Bloody Marys. Service is friendly and competent in our experience. Babica Hen takes reservations for parties of eight or more - otherwise, it's first come, first served. The restaurant is located next to the (formerly COVID mask-wearing) large elephant statue which is part of Lake Oswego's Gallery Without Walls outdoor sculpture exhibition. We had a fun activity planned at Z candles with friends so we thought we would be brunch before hand. We use to frequent the Babica Hen Cafe in Dundee when it was open so I personally asked to come here. That was an unfortunate mistake on my part. Yes it was a Saturday so we were busy but that was ok with us. We ordered our drinks which was the start of the issues. The ice tea was old. You could taste it being stale. The coffee was super acidic that I asked to have take it back. I can drink just about any coffee but that was something else. We placed our food order and then we waited.. and waited.. and waited some more. It took almost an hour to get our food which seemed wild. During that time we couldn't get our servers attention at all. One of the ice teas had a giant hair in it. They said oh.. I will get a new one.. Nothing else. When the food came out one of them came with a salad and the dressing was so acidic and sour we couldn't eat it. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. Sad to say goodbye..... I'm a local who eats here often (at least 3x/month for the last 2 years) and I can no longer justify any more second chances. The staff is shockingly rude and many of my experiences over the last 2 years match the other 1-star reviews. Yesterday I arrived to sit outside. There was an available table, empty and cleaned right near the entrance but they require check in first so I attempted to get someone to check me in. Five employees stood just a few feet away, looked me in the eye, actively ignored me and turned away. I finally had to ask them (with their backs turned away) to please seat me and then more dismissive and unprofessional behavior continued. I keep hoping the rudeness it's just a one-off circumstance but sadly it's not. It's as if customers are an annoyance. Does the auto-added 18% gratuity really mean ya'll have zero incentive to be kind? I really wish the compulsion to make customer care a priority mattered more to them, auto-tip or not. It's such a stark contrast to the vibe at their sister restaurant Lola's. Lola's is warm, welcoming, and actually appreciates your business. It's confounding how these two restaurants can be owned by the same family. We stopped by Babica on a Saturday morning around 9:30 and were surprised to see it already pretty busy. Even so, we were seated as a party of two fairly quickly, which was a great start. The highlight of our visit was definitely the service. Our server was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, quick, and always checking in at just the right times. Honestly, 10/10 service and a big reason we'd come back. As for the food, I'd say it was solid. We skipped some of their popular waffle dishes and stuck with more traditional breakfast options. Everything was well-seasoned, the portions were generous, and we left full. Nothing really stood out as a "wow" dish, but it was a good, satisfying breakfast. The drinks were decent as well. The atmosphere is pretty simple and doesn't have a lot of wow factor, but it feels like a neighborhood breakfast spot where the focus is on good food and even better hospitality. I got the waffling heights which is like a classic blt that had a good aji verde spread. however the waffle itself was extremely dry which you can see from the picture. the curly fries were hot, crispy, and was seasoned well. for dessert we got the cinnamon roll which was also very dry and tasted like an ikea cinnamon roll. service was disappointing this day. no one came to check up on us or to refill out water. we were thirsty from the dry waffle and cinnamon roll but it wasn't until we finished our meal that we got a water refill. the quality of the food and service has deterred me from wanting to come back. read more

Stopped in for brunch on a whim today. We had been here a long time ago and forgotten just how good it is! We split the Vanilla Bread Pudding French Toast (baked and served with mascarpone cream, banana, and fresh caramel). It was a massive portion and a combination of two of my favorite things--it doesn't get much better than that. It was very tasty, though a little dry for my taste, so I did need a side of syrup. We also ordered sides of the Biscuit & Chorizo Gravy and the Red Breakfast Potatoes. The biscuit and gravy was the absolute show-stealer; that gravy was so flavorful! The potatoes were smaller than I expected but still delicious. I added some Secret Aardvark sauce to both, but that's just how I roll. Babica Hen is known for their waffles and they have sweet and savory creations along with a 'sampler' option for you to choose 2 different kinds. They also have a variety of other brunch offerings - eggs benedicts, scrambles, pancakes, breakfast burritos, and even lunch as well (starting at 11am). We got the waffle sampler - chicken/waffles and banana/chocolate crunch along with the corned beef hash. Food was good and portions are generous, but I don't think it's the best I've had. I prefer Screen Door's chicken and waffles and La Provence's scrambles. Prices are fair and comparable to other brunch spots in Portland. It has been several years since I ate at Babica Hen. We decided on a late brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. No wait at all on a clear Friday morning. I ordered an omelette with greens with a side of goddess green salad and peppermint tea. Service was easy and staff attentive. My only quibble was that the 3 egg omelette was extremely greens heavy. Dined on a Saturday at 11:30am We had high hopes for this place, and while the pastries truly were the highlight--flaky, flavorful, and not too sweet--the rest of the meal fell a bit flat. We ordered the Grate Expectations, quesadilla, tinga chicken, and pork schnitzel. The entrees were just okay--nothing particularly memorable. But what unfortunately was memorable was the hair in the pork schnitzel! The 30-minute wait to be seated was expected and didn't feel bad, but the real downside was the hour-long wait for our food after ordering. We had to check in with our server about 40 minutes in, which made us wonder if the order had been forgotten or if the kitchen was just severely behind. There's an automatic 18% tip added which would have been fine if it didn't take a hour for us to get our food. I stopped in on a Thursday around 11:30am and wow was it busy. However, they were able to immediately sit us without a wait. The food was outstanding, and had such big portions and wonderful quality for the price! We got the salmon Benedict and the banana breed pudding French toast and wow were we blown away by the flavor. The service was excellent but be aware they add 18% gratuity to all checks. They have a big parking lot but it was still almost full as the restaurant was packed. The restaurant had a homely feel to it and they made the most out of the space. It was a bit loud with how busy it was but didn't feel overly crowded or cramped. I wasn't planning to write a review because this happened a few Fridays ago during my birthday weekend while I was visiting family, but the way we were treated was completely unacceptable. This happened Friday, August 14 at 12:21 PM, so the restaurant wasn't very busy. We were seated immediately, but I noticed our server wasn't nearly as attentive to our table as she was to the others. I even heard her tell the guests next to us that she was going to lunch and that another server would be taking care of them, but she never informed us. Our food took forever to come out. My boyfriend also asked for a Dr. Pepper twice, and after waiting about 15 minutes, it was never brought to us. We ordered two breakfast plates and a small side of yogurt, and our bill came out to about $80 due to the mandatory 20% gratuity. My boyfriend still tipped on top of that and left a $100 cash payment. I can't help but wonder if we were judged because we're young or maybe because we were the only Hispanic customers, Regardless, the service really needs to be improved. I was nervous what the parking situation would be but they have a big lot. We went in and there was a wait for about 15 minutes. It was busy for a Wednesday morning. As we were waiting, we can see the pastry case and saw that they had a GIANT cinnamon roll. When we were sat, our waitress was so friendly. We got bottomless coffee to start and we both got the basic breakfast for 2 eggs, protein, side, and bread. I got my eggs over medium with bacon, potatoes, and a biscuit! The hostess told us it would be a 20 minute wait but it ended up being 45 minutes. I ordered a classic mimosa with orange juice and the Le Waffle Lyonnaise. It came with 3 large waffles that were crispy (except the one at the bottom which expectedly grew softer overtime) and filling. We've unfortunately noticed this restaurant going downhill in the last year or so, but we've kept going back. The outdoor patio is very nice, but since it's located right on Boones Ferry, it can be distracting with all the traffic. Yesterday, both the service and the food were disappointing. Our server was training another, so we expected good service (they never introduce themselves). After ordering our Bloody Marys and our food we waited for over 15 min before I went to ask about them. At that point the server proceeded to make them, followed immediately by our food! The customers at the next table had had their drinks for quite awhile, and enjoyed the time to sit, sip and chat. We both had the salmon and avocado Benedict, we couldn't see any avocado and the food was barely warm. The egg yolks looked hard boiled, and when we got the servers attention, we had them replaced. She was kind enough to bring us extra Hollandaise sauce, but neglected to tell us that it was cold! We had already poured it over our food by the time she explained that the health department requires that they keep the sauce refrigerated. Fried potatoes were excellent, the 'fruit on the side' was a small slice of green melon from the rind, and hard. We were definitely ready to leave by the time we got our checks, and when questioning the total we were told the restaurant adds an 18% gratuity! I can understand that on a table of six or more, but there were two of us. Maybe they knew in advance that the service was going to be subpar...we will not be going back. read more
