    Vanilla Bread Pudding French Toast
    Andrew P.

Stopped in for brunch on a whim today. We had been here a long time ago and forgotten just how good it is! We split the Vanilla Bread Pudding French Toast (baked and served with mascarpone cream, banana, and fresh caramel). It was a massive portion and a combination of two of my favorite things--it doesn't get much better than that. It was very tasty, though a little dry for my taste, so I did need a side of syrup. We also ordered sides of the Biscuit & Chorizo Gravy and the Red Breakfast Potatoes. The biscuit and gravy was the absolute show-stealer; that gravy was so flavorful! The potatoes were smaller than I expected but still delicious. I added some Secret Aardvark sauce to both, but that's just how I roll. Service was excellent; Hailey was both efficient and very pleasant!

Fun little spot! Little being the key word. Either get there when they open or be prepared to wait for a seat. The food was good. The ricotta pancakes are massive! Easy enough to share with another person, but so tender and moist. The waitress was friendly and personable. She got our order quickly and refilled the coffees in a timely manner.

Stopped by Babica Hen Cafe in Lake Oswego and really enjoyed the burger. It was well cooked, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Nothing over-the-top, just a solid, well-executed burger done right. The cafe itself is charming and comfortable, and the service was friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. It's the kind of place that's easy to settle into and enjoy your meal. Overall, a very good burger in a pleasant setting. I'd happily come back and try more from the menu.

Oh, Portland, you really had us. When I thought an anniversary visit for sights & friends couldn't impress us more, they pulled Babica Hen Lake Oswego out of their hats for brunch and We. Were. Hooked. Cozy, cute, great menu. Even better cocktails. Bloody Mary FLIGHTS, y'all. Espresso Martinis were the cure for what ails you, especially when what ails you is non-stop drinks & strip clubs the night before. The only downside was the wait. like plan for 45min+. See hangover referenced above. That wait time was ROUGH. I used that time wisely to observe the super-cool mascot working the door. Hubby had smoky, savory Corned Beef Hash and I had the Prawn & Polenta Benedict. You guys. Prawns. Polenta. Benedict. Our friends had all manner of waffles, sweet & savory (I was licking my wounds but I recall black forest ham & something with berries?!?) Anyhoo, real friends share. Everything was PERFECTION. Hubby & I marveled that this brunch would have been double the cost at home. Seriously affordable for what we had, including cocktails. Can't wait to return!

Service was great, got there early enough to beat the crowd. This place is popular so it gets busy you could be waiting well over 30mins before getting a table on a weekend. The food is always good haven't had anything I didn't love!

Cozy brunch spot in Lake O! Same owners as the La Provence family, but I do think La Provence may be better! Babica Hen is known for their waffles and they have sweet and savory creations along with a 'sampler' option for you to choose 2 different kinds. They also have a variety of other brunch offerings - eggs benedicts, scrambles, pancakes, breakfast burritos, and even lunch as well (starting at 11am). We got the waffle sampler - chicken/waffles and banana/chocolate crunch along with the corned beef hash. Food was good and portions are generous, but I don't think it's the best I've had. I prefer Screen Door's chicken and waffles and La Provence's scrambles. Prices are fair and comparable to other brunch spots in Portland. Service was friendly despite busy weekends, but they only refilled my coffee once (after I asked). A homey brunch in Lake Oswego, I can see why it is so beloved!

Cute spot! First time trying it and I enjoyed it. Got the Benedict and it was great -- my friend got the corn beef hash and it also looked yummy. We got a sticky bun to share for the table (pictured) and it was massive! Went on a Saturday morning and it was quite busy so get there a little earlier to get on the list.

It has been several years since I ate at Babica Hen. We decided on a late brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. No wait at all on a clear Friday morning. I ordered an omelette with greens with a side of goddess green salad and peppermint tea. Service was easy and staff attentive. My only quibble was that the 3 egg omelette was extremely greens heavy. It was almost like eating a plateful of sautéed greens with a small bit of egg lol! Once you cut into the omelette you ate a forkful of greens. My friend got the Nutella strawberry waffle and coffee and she gave it a 10 out of 10.

I can't recommend the braised beef enough! This is our go-to brunch place now. Come early to avoid long waits.

A mixed bag experience putting it right in the middle of a rating. What was great: - some of the best lattes and mochas I've had - server was very nice and attentive at the start - best home fries ever - fast fix after bringing us the wrong plate - more affordable than a lot of Portland spots What was middle of the road: - after ordering service was so inconsistent. No water refill, no checking in if we wanted anything else, different server so I didn't know who to flag down - they were out of the brisket and salmon Benedict which was what we had planned on ordering All in all there were some wins that would make me want to try what I originally came for if I was out of lake Oswego

Standard breakfast, which I like, nicely done.

FANTASTIC service. I usually don't like places that automatically add a tip because half the time they don't deserve it. This place deserves the 18% plus the extra I added. The food was tasty as well. My wife had the Banana Chocolate Crunch Waffle, very good, she says. I had the standard breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes and bread, it was all nicely done. We will be back.

Dined on a Saturday at 11:30am We had high hopes for this place, and while the pastries truly were the highlight--flaky, flavorful, and not too sweet--the rest of the meal fell a bit flat. We ordered the Grate Expectations, quesadilla, tinga chicken, and pork schnitzel. The entrees were just okay--nothing particularly memorable. But what unfortunately was memorable was the hair in the pork schnitzel! The 30-minute wait to be seated was expected and didn't feel bad, but the real downside was the hour-long wait for our food after ordering. We had to check in with our server about 40 minutes in, which made us wonder if the order had been forgotten or if the kitchen was just severely behind. There's an automatic 18% tip added which would have been fine if it didn't take a hour for us to get our food. All in all, I'd come back for the pastries to go, but I'd think twice before sitting down for a full meal.

Service and food were excellent. The ambiance not so much. Pretty normal for that kind of restaurant.

Ask the Community - Babica Hen Cafe

Can they handle a large party, say 12 people during regular business hours (not a private event)?

Can I make reservations ahead of time or do I have to wait until I get to the restaurant?

I had only be there once, eventhoug it looked kind of crowded we didn't have to wait for a table, it was only 2 of us like around noon, a little after pick breakfast time. I don't know if they take reservations.

It's not fine dining... think more like upscale casual. They serve stumptown coffee, sell prepackaged foods and have a deli case. There are wine bottles for sale and a grill on site. They have a spectacular happy hour with five dollar pints available. Parking is easy out front and the staff is nice enough. Service is fast and it's definitely family friendly. Probably not a place I would spend a long amount of time but it's good for a casual and affordable meal with basic bistro staples.

Such a great little place, with a little bit of everything. And flavorful. I had what I think is their signature soup, but I forget the name of it. Delicious. And my husband had the turkey chipotle sandwich. He really liked it, but it's very small for a man that's 64 and meaty lol I also attached a copy of the receipt so you can see what the price of these items are in their size. Overall, a great little place, outside seating, which is nice.
