The service was super fast and they were very friendly. We spent Easter brunch there, I thought it was going to be hectic cause of the holiday but they sat us down fairly quickly and the food came out even faster. I really enjoyed my California Benedict, the only thing that wasn't the best was the English muffin.. it was a little stiff. The potatoes were seasoned well to my liking and as for the rest of the plates, my company really enjoyed them. Definitely some with a big appetite as the plates are huge, even shareable between two people. It was the perfect spot for before a dodger game since it's right down the street. read more

I'm completely unfamiliar with the east side of LA but during a break w/ my realtor. He suggested we drop in at Millie's Cafe. What a great idea! I'm always a fan of chill diner vibes, with a full page of vegan options. Hurrayyyyyyyyy! Eggs are overpriced these days anyway, lol. Ordered the veggie Rueben. Ohhhh lawwwrd it was delicious. The bread, the dressing, juusttt muah. Super yummy. Totally seems family owned, ya know I love that. And the service is an efficient well-oiled machine. Before you even make a request they can read yr mind. That's how fast the service is. Really impressive. It was also super fun to people watch: all demographics, ages, even aliens I'm sure come here for a bite, It's kinda cool just to be in the mix and see what's a buzz on this side of the world. read more

Millie's is good- I just think that the flavors (at least for the vegan dishes) haven't been consistently as good each time I have them. The first time I dined in and I thought it was incredible! I believe I got the V usual with tempeh bacon and just egg with a side of pancakes. Everything was delicious! Despite how busy it was- we were seated with little wait time and received our food quickly. The other time I had the same plate except with the vegan poached egg and it was to go. Again, it was good- just not as good as it was the first time. The pancakes lacked flavor that was present the first time as well as being a little too chewy...but the poached egg was tasty (and fun to burst!). Millie's Cafe has my heart. There is a lot of seating outside and you can people watch. Julian was our server and he was super nice and very helpful. Me and my friend split the Slutty Bun - I would call it that, it's a fitting name. Oh my goodness it was juicy, buttery, caramelized goodness - definitely dip in hot sauce. We also got hashbrowns amazing perfectly crispy on outside and soft! And we also split two chocolate chip pancakes, which were pretty tasty. They were a tiny bit on the rubbery side, will not lie, but nevertheless, tasty, sweet treat! and the coffee was DIVINE! I will be back and I will be trying more! My daughter brought me her for Sunday breakfast and it was not disappointing at all. We started with just a pleasant and warm welcome and one of their hot chocolate. It tasted so good with a hint of cinnamon. Pancakes were fluffy and eggs so light. I will definitely come back again. read more

I love this place so much. Great food, fast service, ok prices. Not the cheapest but at least they give big portions. I am gluten free, they accommodate and do have lots of options including gf toast. Plus side is if you come in the morning you get a fun view of hot shirtless dudes on their morning run passing by for entertainment. read more

We love local cafes and this one did not disappoint! We came in for breakfast and did not have to wait, we ate inside. I ordered the Maynard special which was amazing! It came out looking like a frittata, it was pretty with the spinach and goat cheese evenly distributed and the pine nuts just took it over the top. I'm so glad I tried it! The biscuit was crunchy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside. It came with delicious berry jam. Our server was super nice and helpful, actually everyone there was welcoming and prompt. I ordered hot tea and loved that they gave me a big size pot along with a big size of quality creamer. I can't wait to return on our next visit and try something else! read more

The one thing that stands out about this place to me is the efficiency. Quick (and super friendly) service! I've never felt rushed, but this diner knows what they're doing. They don't waste time, they're unpretentious, and their food is always DELICIOUS. Their vegan options are so freakin' on-point and there are SO MANY. I love coming here with non-vegan family and friends because it's a place we can all enjoy! Since I've become vegan, it's hard to eat at little breakfast diners, so I feel so lucky to have this one nearby. Sat at the counter for the first time today and loved it. Somehow got in without waiting on a weekend. A lovely breakfast spot! I got the breakfast meal (with a gluten free pancake that was DELICIOUS. Will return just to also try the GF waffles.) Boyfriend got a patty melt. Iced latte was pretty run of the mill. Might skip next time and get from a coffee shop instead! Parking can be tough but the 99c store lot is usually empty so go there Will return! read more

Stopped in for my first time this morning and we both had a great brunch. I am doing a four out of five because my eggs were undercooked and extremely runny and I found a hair in my cold brew. Aside from that I really do like this place and especially appreciate how diverse and large their menu is. It's located right on Sunset so it can get very busy, especially during the weekends. There is no parking lot specifically for this place so it will be metered street parking, which can be difficult to find sometimes. There is usually a long wait but we were able to be seated right when we arrived for a Friday 10:30 brunch. They have a few tables on the inside that is just counter seating, but the majority of tables are outside on the street, which is where we sat. Our server was very polite and fast, and our food literally came out in less than 10 minutes after we ordered it. It was one of the fastest food services that I have ever had. That being said the food was very good and I enjoyed the flavors except the egg was extremely watery. I ordered a Caramel Cold Brew to start, and as mentioned found a hair in it after I had taken a few large sips. From what I tried, it was very good , but the hair really turned me off from it. The Chilaquiles Benedict tasted great, except for the eggs. It was very diluted because of how watery it was so it really lacked that great poached egg flavoring. I did have a good experience overall, so I plan to try it again in the future and hope that both of the mistakes I had today don't repeat again. I would recommend though, and think it deserves to be on the list of great LA brunch spots. read more

The best breakfast I have had in the area and maybe all of LA. The food is consistently good and the service is consistently fast. These folks have their flow down to a science. Chilaquiles are so hard to find done well at a restaurant but Millie's delivers. I add steak for that extra something special and something special it is. 10/10 would recommend to all locals and visitors. read more

To give proper credit, Millie's has been around for awhile and the location on the Sunset strip makes it central for most. The food and pricing are over-rated, while the menu offers plenty of options attracting locales and passerbys. We had 2 breakfast plates and 2 coffees for $70. The steak and eggs was nothing to write home about and the service was minimal and mostly forgetable. Seating is tight, so you are on the busy street or packed in by the kitchen. It's not the place to have a deep conversation. Not my cup of tea, but try for yourself. read more

LOVE Millie's. Been coming here for years. Love the food and everyone always has a great big smile. Its best to arrive early morning or after 10ish. I can't say I understand why the line is so huge here. The food is good, not great: Chilaquiles were ok, but definitely not stellar. The service is VERY attentive, but we were given the wrong bill. Sidewalk dining is one long mess-hall style setup, with no real ambience. I'm glad it's here. The staff was nice. Just not "must go" experience with so many other alternatives in the area. read more

I discovered Millie's Cafe after looking for a breakfast spot near a store my friends wanted to visit in the area shortly after they had arrived at Burbank Airport. We had to kill some time as the store opened at noon and we were all hungry. Parking in the neighborhood was a little challenging as it was all uphill and restricted parking on Fridays (which was the day we went). We had to eventually park down the street in front of the school. When we arrived all the tables were filled, but we didn't have to wait much to be seated. When we sat down, we were immediately attended to. I ordered a breakfast burrito with spicy sausage. It was so delicious! They served it with a green salsa, and I mixed it with some Cholula... it was so good. I am looking forward to coming back soon. read more

I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. I did enjoy the fresh shredded cabbage and carrots, reminded me of bahn mi. Empanadas- Loved the acidity of the sauce that cut through the fattiness of the ground meat. Light shell. Crispy Squash flower- Delicate crunch, like an angelic version of a jalapeno popper. Lamb chops- Definition of "treat-yourself" luxurious meat lollipops. Celery salad- Simple dish but the lemon flavor and tartness really helped break up the richness of other dishes. Churros- Light crunch and small, petite dessert. The thin caramel sauce is addicting. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

Unfortunately, that was not my experience at all. Before ordering food, I asked our server about the differences between the mezcals and which flight they would recommend. The only explanation I received was, "It's just different families, so I'd go with the higher quality one." There was no real information or guidance, and it was obvious they didn't know much about the mezcal selection. I ended up choosing one based solely on what sounded best. We were then informed that the menu had recently changed and is now mostly tapas. That's perfectly fine, but I noticed several items from my previous visit were still available, so I figured I'd order a few favorites along with some new dishes. Most of the food was actually great. The ribeye tacos, tostada, and buñuelitos were all delicious. However, the carne asada was extremely disappointing. We only sent back one plate because I felt bad sending both, and that's when a manager (the gentleman with the man bun) came over. He explained that they have a new chef from Oaxaca, but what confused me was that they were serving Argentinian-style steaks as their carne asada. Instead of a traditional Mexican-style cut, it was thin, flat, and honestly looked like a breakfast steak. For a restaurant that prides itself on being a modern Mexican restaurant, serving Argentinian steak as carne asada just didn't make sense to me. To his credit, he removed both carne asada plates from our bill, which I genuinely appreciated. After that, he asked if there was anything else we'd like. I personally said no, but someone else at the table asked for one more ribeye taco. The manager replied, "You know what? I'll bring you one, and I'll bring them another too." Naturally, I assumed he was offering the extra taco as a goodwill gesture since I hadn't ordered anything else. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the bill and realized both tacos had been added to our tab. I wasn't going to argue over the price of a taco, but it was frustrating because I never asked for it. In fact, I ended up giving that taco away to my friends. If it wasn't complimentary, it shouldn't have been presented as if it were. Another thing worth mentioning is that while the carne asada portion has clearly gotten much smaller, the price remains exactly the same, which doesn't seem justified. Overall, my biggest disappointment is that there was no indication when making the reservation that this was essentially an experimental period with a new chef introducing major menu changes. Had I known beforehand, I never would have recommended Mirate for our dinner, and to be completely honest, I probably wouldn't have made a reservation at all. I only get two days off each month, so this was supposed to be something I could really enjoy. Instead, it honestly felt like a waste of my time and money. I'm sorry to say that while there were a few good moments, they faded very quickly. Unfortunately, the negative parts are what have stayed with me, and that's what I'll remember most about the experience. It's disappointing because I know how great Mirate can be since I experienced it just a few weeks ago. I truly hope they can regain the quality of food, service, and overall experience that made me recommend it in the first place . People share tables, strike up conversations, and enjoy a meal without anyone rushing them out the door. Then there's something you almost never find downtown anymore--free parking. That's worth mentioning all by itself. Could I explain why I'm giving Philippe's five stars? I suppose I could. But when you have friendly people like Elizabeth, a fresh lamb dip made right in front of you, reasonable prices, free parking, and more than a century of Los Angeles history, what more could you ask for? I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try their breakfast menu and other items though. Because peeking at the other tables they offerings looked delicious.
