Decided to improvise a date night on a Saturday and came across Milonga Room. I have always been a big fan of the food and cocktails at Buenos Aires Cafe, so it felt like a good choice. We were promptly seated for our reservation and I was impressed with the service. The chicken empanadas were delicious and their chimichurri sauce is one of the best I've had by far. Their drinks are strong and I enjoyed the presentation of the Brujeria cocktail I ordered. You won't be disappointed.

Molina room is the perfect last stop on date night. A tiny speakeasy located under Buenos Aires, it's dark and sexy, and the drinks are unique and delectable. I cannot remember the names of what we had, but I won't forget the decadent smoke cascading from my drink infusing it to perfection. One of the bartenders even stopped by our table to see how we enjoyed the drinks which I appreciated. There was one server who seemed a bit aloof, but I suppose maybe she was having an off night. When we ordered a snack she walked away before we could even tell her what we chose, but another picked up her slack. Overall, we love being a guest here and will return in the future!

Me and my best friend did a cute date night at Milonga Room and when I say I don't know how we didn't find this place sooner, it truly is a hidden gem. Cozy velvet seating, candlelit tables, and an intimate speakeasy vibe check. And the cocktails are absolute works of art. The Carajillo was rich, velvety, and perfectly balanced, a delicious blend of espresso and sweet vanilla warmth. The Aperol Spritz was bright, bubbly, and refreshing, like a little burst of summer in a glass. Every drink feels custom made, with the bartenders walking you through the flavor notes and making sure it's exactly to your liking. But what truly sets this place apart is the service. Andrew, the manager, is a master of hospitality, warm, welcoming, and effortlessly making you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in. Whether it's a date night, a celebration, or just an excuse to treat yourself, Milonga Room turns an evening out into an unforgettable experience. We can't wait to come back(:

Truly some of the best cocktails we've had in town! We are not huge gin drinkers either but I got the Francesca cocktail and my fiancée got the milonga daiquiri. The Francesca was a lavender and elderflower gin cocktail with an egg and whipped cream top and it was truly delicious - I could have 5 of them!! Truly a girls dream cocktail if you're looking for something floral and sweet. The milonga daiquiri was so smooth and a great option for those looking for something a little stronger. The inside is a bit on the smaller end (maybe 6/7 tables and 3/4 seats at the bar) and they do make reservations too in case you want to be sure to snag a seat! We walked in on a Thursday night around 8 pm and were able to get seated but soon after, it was almost completely full. Won't lie the cocktails are on the higher end, expect to spend around $18 a drink or more but we left happy and satisfied with our choices and drinks. Service was great as well - quick to get our order in and check as well.

Mix lavish, creative, moody and you have the Milonga room! Lush velvet, art deco, gorg details, and inventive cocktails make up this amaro-centered speakeasy tucked underneath an Argentinian cafe. Ring the doorbell of a red door to enter You'll find South American inspired cocktails such as carajillo with a twist, cocktails with mole bitters, and of course -- several with amaro or fernet, beloved in Argentina My favorites were the egg-white Francesca and the carajillo, or South American espresso martini. Drinks are on the pricier side (quite a few over $20) Tapas are the perfect accompaniment, pair with a cheese board or empanadas made in Buenos Aires Cafe upstairs. We loved the empanadas especially the carne picante (spicy beef) empanada that came with a flavorful chimichurri Overall a great time and gorgeous speakeasy setting!

Milonga Room is an intimate and artsy lounge with the best cocktails on East 6th. This speakeasy under Buenos Aires Cafe makes you feel like you're in a stylish 1940s Argentinian living room, it's an excellent romantic date spot or place to grab drinks post dinner. The drinks are truly an art at Milonga Room- we were blown away by the incredible taste of the cocktails and unique balance of flavors. Additionally, the bartenders were super friendly and knowledgeable, and they went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our experience (shoutout to Andrew!) My absolute favorite was the The Francessa, a delicate lavender cream cocktail with a beautiful hand crafted aesthetic. After just one sip I added Milonga Room to my list of best cocktails in Austin! We also enjoyed the Palermo (light and refreshing) and their spin on an espresso martini, the Carajillo Del Alma. Last but not least, one of the best parts of the Milonga Room is you can order empanadas and light bites from the restaurant above! Who knew cocktails paired so well with chimichurri.

Very cool and romantic lil speakeasy! Just what we were seeking. Small, seats maybe 30 max, nestled below Brazilian cafe behind an unmarked back door and accessed via a voluminous red velvet curtain....ahhh! Sweetly enthusiastic server and talented bartendress took good care of us. Ambiance and music fit well. Only complaint would be that our seats by the door were too brightly lit, but I guess they don't want people stumbling in! Aim for a darker & more private back corner, if you get a choice. We tried: sleepy hollow*, velvet underground*, brujeria, carajillo del alma* (will try to emulate at home!) *=our faves

Visited the Milonga Room after dinner at Buenos Aires and I absolutely loved the speakeasy vibes!! You have to go around to the parking lot in the back of Buenos Aires and find the door with a doorbell, then ring it and wait to be invited in. It was so cozy and the room was very small and intimate. The cocktail selections were so unique and I definitely want to go back and try the 3 or 4 specialty cocktail samplers we saw someone order! The bartender was very accommodating and even went upstairs for us to pour us glasses of wine that only Buenos had. Such a great date night spot!

This is one of my favorite speakeasies in Austin. It's a really cosy, cute, intimate spot - perfect for a date. My favorites were the Velvet Underground and the Brujeria (it looked fun so we wanted to try - thought it would just be gimmicky with the fire, but it had excellent sweet and almost savory flavor as well). They are about to release a new cocktail menu, we previewed one of the drinks (a gin sour French 75 inspired drink). It was pretty smooth and lemony as well. Highly recommend a reservation, but if you go right when they open, you might be able to walk in as well. I have done this a few times.

Vibey speakeasy spot behind Buenos Aires Cafe-- walked by on a Friday evening as walk-ins, and they were able to get us seated around 10:00 pm due to cancelled reservations. Not much seating overall, so would recommend getting a reservation in advance if you can. Drinks were awesome; my fave was the Velvet Underground, which had egg whites and a hint of banana. Unfortunately, the kitchen had closed, so we didn't get to try any of the food. My only gripe was with the service-- when I asked for recommendations, the server was not very helpful/ said there were no sweeter cocktails on the menu, though the one I ordered definitely was. Only 1-2 people working the whole downstairs area, so understand it may have been tough to get to everyone. Will have to come back to Buenos Aires Cafe to try the empanadas!

OMG I love love, love the speakeasy. I have been dying to go to here and finally my friend got reservations because every time I want to go during the weekend there is never a spot. The people that work in there are so nice, and they are so much fun and know exactly what to recommend and how to explain the flavors of the cocktails. The place is underground it's very vintage almost like a mixture of Victorian/New York/castle vibes bedroom. The two cocktails I got were by far delicious. I literally could probably of drank a pitcher of each of them. I will definitely keep coming back here for their delicious drinks and great vibes.

Atmosphere was very cool and intimate so if you're on a date, this would be a good place to go! I definitely recommend having a reservation and would not recommend a large party, probably keep it to 4-6 people max, as the space is not very large. Drinks were good and we had good service when we were there.

We waited maybe 15 minutes at the walk-in line as others progressively started to pile on behind us. Then again, even people in the reservation line were waiting. This is definitely the kind of place that wants you to wait. The kind of place that wants to build a line outdoors to intrigue onlookers. We were treated nicely, but we definitely could have gotten in right away. By the time we walked in, the place was probably at 60% capacity. It was standing room only at the bar, but not overcrowded by any means. There is a dress code, but it's not entirely clear what it is. Some guy dressed to the 9s got turned away for not having sleeves whereas I got in with sneakers and a t-shirt. They ask for your cellphones upon entering and give you a key in exchange, but there doesn't seem to be any security to enforce it if you don't want to give them up. I have no problem with their policy, but I bet a lot of customers do. Interestingly, their little social experiment seemed to have a positive effect, where we ended up talking to strangers and vice versa. The Powder Room may be making America social again.

Located off Anderson Mill in the corner of a strip mall is a bookshelf with a door on the right side. If you cannot figure out the entrance, there is a doorbell to ring as well. I believe it is owned by the same people who own The Mill bar right next door, which makes it feel like a cool bonus space. My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. One of the most attractive performing spaces in Austin…read more If they happen to be booking music that you like, you are made in the shade. * The club is on three levels. The Ground Floor: A larger than usual performance space. Larger than usual because it takes up the entire footprint of the building with no space set aside for seating. If you want to dance or they are packing them in SRO, the square footage is there. Okay - it is not as big as the Concourse Project which has an entire South-of the-Airport Industrial Warehouse to work with. But for downtown, it is huge. * The Mezzanine - This is one place to go if you want to sit down. The space is divided between a) a set of large leather chairs with a pool table in the middle. The pool table area is on an open balcony that lets you hear or even watch the bands from on high. There is a bench with stools right on the balcony edge for semi-comfortable listening to the band below. If I am listening to the music, I will take the leather chairs rather than a stool. Ever try boogie-ing on a stool? Ever get transported to a higher place by the mystic beauty of what you are hearing on a stool? Slapstick moments await. However, it is hard to argue with a leather chair for big time listening. b) the Mezzanine bar with and a bunch of chairs and benches near a bowling alley. ?!?!? on the Bowling Alley. The Great Lebowski never had it so good. If you push the matter, the bar might even be able to make you a White Russian. * The Roof - which has one of the nicest and most comfortable roof sitting areas in Austin. There are places with nicer roof views, but not very many places with as much seating and as much comfortable seating. And yes there is a music stage if management decides they want to mix things up soundwise. Mostly though, this is a perfect place to rest your tootsies if standing listening to bands has become too much for you. It is also the perfect safety place if the band downstairs stinks so much, you need two floors of real estate between you and the abomination on stage. * I can't speak for the quality of the bar. I was here for a German government sponsored SXSW showcase - in this case of all Berlin DJs. Berlin DJs are up there with Ibiza DJs for being the best that electronic dance music has to offer. (That night however, an unknown Austin girl filled in for a missing act - and held her own with the best of Berlin. Suxxy Puxxy. Keep your eyes out for her if you like to dance.) The German government was offering free drinks as part of the motivation for you to come in to German Haus and hear free music. No exotic hard to get German beverages but I was pleased to take the normal stuff they were offering. So how good the bar is or how good the musicians they book are are TBD. * * * I generally find the Mohawk is a hard standard to beat ... So it is hard to get me to shift to other clubs.
