This neighborhood southern style restaurant is a hidden gem here in the Twin Cities! Right off Douglas and 36th St this place has some absolutely amazing dishes and a drink list that won't disappoint you. Cute enough for date night, and chill enough to take the family, fill yourself up on ribs, egg sandwiches, po'boys, and THE BEST mac and cheese you've ever had! If you hit this place at the right time of year, they have an adorable little patio out front so you can take in the weather while you dine! This place at first glance looks like it's your typical mom and pop shop with the possible mediocre bite. However upon walking up and taking a seat at the adorable little patio outside you immediately feel at home. I took a plunge and ordered the jalapeño blue cheeseburger with their sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were perfection in that they were not overly seasoned so that the sweetness from the potato itself could really speak. The burger, I had asked to be cooked to a medium and they did a fabulous job on the temperature. I would caution you that when they say it is jalapeño blue cheese they do not mean it is blue cheese with jalapeños (commas are everything) unfortunately the blue cheese jalapeño was so spicy that I did have to remove a big portion of it. I love spice but I felt that it over Baird the burger itself. I will absolutely be going back there again and cannot wait to try the rest of the menu. read more

I have heard people complain about the service before, but we have been there many times and the only problem I ever had was not getting my latte until my breakfast was half eaten. Great breakfast all day Sunday, gurgling water pitchers, delicious Italian sodas. Yum. Here is my favorite part. Milton's is such a cute restaurant! I love how it's decorated, and the fish pitchers of water are so cute! The menu is a little small, but everything I have ordered has been tasty. Everything is comforting, well-seasoned, and presented nicely. The only thing I don't like is it's usually really busy, and the waiting area is basically between the door and the bar. There isn't much room. Also, if a lot of people are waiting, the host doesn't always see that someone is waiting to get their name on the list. That can be a little frustrating. But, even if you have to wait, the food is worth it! read more

I had lunch here today and ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich and a cup of tomato basil soup. Both were EASILY THE BEST EVER!!!! The jerk seasoning had some heat but not so much that I couldn't taste the garlic Aioli spread, ripe tomatoes and fresh arugula greens. Woah!!!! I've never eaten there before and I will return soon. Wow! Miltons is still the best! Even with their new chef the food is as good if not better than before. The service is always so friendly and always willing to answer questions. This place is a staple of the Golden Valley new Hope area and I really feel that most of the reviews on here that are not in the 4 to 5 star ranch are simply incorrect. I've been to Milton's several times and for all occasions - brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour. Despite the reason I'm going, Milton's always excels! There can often be a line, so get there early or call ahead if possible (I don't know if they allow call ahead reservations, but at least to get an idea of wait time!). Brunch is delicious and their stuffed french toast is my go-to. Great wine selection, great ambiance, and just really delicious food. They serve their mimosas in a wine glass instead of a wimpy champagne glass and that's a good enough reason for me to make this my favorite brunch spot! read more

Milton's is a fantastic neighborhood restaurant. If you're there for breakfast, I recommend the "Eye Opener" which consists of cheesy grits and eggs. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with Milton Wings. We have been here a few times. During lunch and dinner rush times. This particular time, it was a late lunch so not busy at all. There was a couple that walked in right before us and was seated immediately. The female server then decided it was more fun to chat with other staff, and kept looking over at us, but ignoring us. The bar tender said "sorry, I guess you'll be seated soon." There was no follow up after that, except for quick looks over at us and both kept on making themselves busy behind the bar. The staff seems to like chatting with themselves rather than doing their job. Given the small size of the restaurant, this is unacceptable. We ended up leaving after waiting for 10 minutes. The food is good, but not worth the poor service experience. I love supporting local businesses, but I don't think I can continue to support a place where I was ignored and disrespected. read more

I will definitely eat here again. Left full with food in my box for lunch the next day, and it was a very good experience, especially considering how new it is. My boyfriend and I left there amazed at how inexpensive it is for what it's offering. I had the hamburger with caramelized onion. I had to wonder whether they were truly caramelized or just sautéed with sugar, but that's a very time consuming thing to make from scratch and most restaurants (IME) don't go really old school on those. I didn't ask the server for details about it, so it's only a guess. It was a still a VERY tasty burger, and when I asked for it Med-Rare, it actually came out Med-Rare. Nice atmosphere. Great beer list. I went with a Stella as I wasn't feeling adventurous that night. I really appreciate it when restaurants / bars offer tried and true beers (Stella, Newcastle) and not only new brews so that I can have a familiar beer when I'm in the mood. The server behind the bar (we chose not to wait for a table and ate at the bar) mentioned they will be opening a sidewalk patio / dining area. They're working on licensure. Service needs polishing, but that's part of a new restaurant. Since we were at the bar we were a bit too close to some of the personal conversations between the servers. It's a great neighborhood place. Like the other reviewers said, it's crowded, so it might be wise not to wait until you're already hungry to go there. read more

Milton's in a hidden gem, which is tucked away in the middle of a small strip mall. My husband and I visited this place last night for dinner, and loved it so much we went back for breakfast. The first thing that struck me was the ambiance. The place in small and the decor is rustic and cozy. A place to go for a special date or a relaxed night out. Even though we had to wait for a table it really did not feel like a wait. We were able to get a drink and find a place to relax and chat. I felt like I was at a friend's home, who happened to be an excellent chef, and we were just hanging out with all the friends. The music in the background was at perfect level, where you could hear it and enjoy but it did not over power. The menu is small, which is something I really appreciate because I know everything is going to be good. My husband had the ribs and I had the jerk chicken. The meals started with a nice mixed green salad and homemade dressing (on the side). The green goddess dressing was amazing! Our meals came also with a side of perfectly saute kale and a side of our choice. I had the mac & cheese which was good. My husband had the apple salad and that was very tasty, and I am definitely ordering that when we go back for dinner again. The jerk chicken and the ribs were both tasty. My jerk chicken was nicely prepared that it did not even need the sauce that was served on the side. I got a small bite of the ribs, and they tasted great. The ribs were so good you would not need the sauce. My husband kept making yummy sounds as he ate them all. He also commented that he really enjoyed the jerk chicken dipped in the side of barbecue sauce that he got with is ribs. We ended our meal with the banana foster for dessert and that was heavenly. It was the perfect dish to share. Our waiter at dinner was Christian and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. When we asked if they served breakfast he described a very yummy sounding french toast. So we went back this morning for breakfast! This was their first weekend serving breakfast and it was very quiet. Again a limited menu which is cool, because again you know it will be good. I had the stuffed blueberry french toast, which paired wonderfully with my coffee. My husband at the rib scramble, which was so savory and delicious. My husband and I came for Sunday breakfast at 10:00am. Our waitress, Jessica dropped a water pitcher on our table with no glasses. We ordered and by the time she went to the computer she had forgotten the order. I asked for tea and she brought me coffee. I asked for well done hash browns and they came practically raw. I sent them back and had to ask for them 15 minutes later and they came back looking the same. We had to ask for refills on our tea and coffee. I asked for a side if fried green tomatoes and was told they don't fry anything on Sunday. And to make matters worse, every time one of the servers walked behind my chair, I was bumped. All in all, it was a bad experience. This was our second time and we won't be back. read more

I went to pick up food yesterday 15 minutes After it was supposed to be ready, had to wait 5+minutes to get anyone's attention ( bartender was cleaning and saw me standing there but didn't/ wouldn't even come near me so I could ask about my order). When the host finally came & went to check on my to-go order, it wasn't ready - 20+ minutes after they said it would be ready. And they weren't even that busy. One of the neighborhood places I hope stays around FOREVER. First impressions mean a lot and Milton's delivered. After dinner at Nong's Thai in New Hope (also very highly recommended) we headed over for some beers and to relax for a while. You can't walk in here and not feel welcome. Atmosphere gets 6 stars. There was plenty of seating (including the couch that we got) and the hand-made furniture really adds a nice touch. There were maybe 6 or 7 good brews on tap, good coffee table books, they had the Wild game on and our waitress was obviously not just there for a paycheck. Our server was not knowledgeable about the menu and put his thumb in the salad when serving it. Sadly, the salad was limp and the Poppy-seed dressing was tasteless. The Jerk chicken was over cooked and dry. I can make better Mac N Cheese. The Portabello sandwich had more limp greens, was greasy and had an off taste. Good food - ordered fried pickles, ribeye sandwich and ribs. We have eaten here a couple of times but have always sat at the bar and had great service. This was the first time sitting in the dining room. Terrible service. We watched our waitress sit outside with her friends talking for a good 10-15 minutes. I noticed the other wait staff looking for her as well because her other food orders were sitting in the window. One waitress even went out to get her and she still sat. Finally I got up to go to the front to get our check myself, just as she was walking in. We go to dinner for the food and service and her actions and attitude were annoying. I believe her name was Angie. The table next to us just left cash without getting the check and left because she was so terrible. So many other great places with great service! read more

Amazing food and service. A little place located in a strip mall doesn't look like much from the outside. Once inside the restaurant is decorated with a warm inviting come sit down and stay awhile feel, our server was great stopped by enough but not to much so we could enjoy our drinks, food and conversation. The bbq rib nachos were recommended an man they were perfect mix of sweet and savory topped with pieces of bbq ribs, they were a meal all by themself. That was followed up by the salmon That was accompanied by a side salad with house made dressing, a veggie and side. We choose the house made green goddess dressing. This was a taste of summer during a cold winter night. We had the kale which was sauteed in a sesame oil, a healthy veggie that was full of flavor. The homemade Mac and cheese that was cheesy but not to heavy, it was a great side dish for a cold night. The salmon was cooked perfectly and topped with a sweet mustard sauce. The meal ended with bananas foster and banana cream pie. Bananas foster was good but the homemade banana cream pie was mouth watering. I am still thinking about it hours later and planning my next trip to have a slice or two with a cup of coffee. It was salty sweet trip that I cannot wait to take again. I will be back very soon. What's not to love? It's a family-run restaurant in my neighborhood with a cool atmosphere that also happens to serve good beers on tap and amazing food. The menu is fairly small, but it's clear that everything on it is there for a reason. I ordered the cedar planked salmon, which was delish. My boyfriend went with the jerk chicken, and wow was that tasty. And for the quality & quantity of food, the price was right. For under 12 bucks each, we got salads, our entrees, a side of kale and another side of our choosing. From the outside, it's very "Crystal," tucked into a 1960s-era strip mall. It's actually easy to miss if you're not looking for it. But as soon as you walk in, you're transported to a modern, comfortable, hip-but-not-too-hip atmosphere that feels like it belongs in a little South Minneapolis neighborhood or something. Love that they are independently owned and appear to be thriving. My only wish is that they had a few more healthy-ish options on the menu. We just had a perfect, lovely dining experience at Milton's. What a great Wednesday evening event - walked in and the place is just so inviting. An environment of coziness, friendliness, relaxation and the smell of amazing food. The service was spectacular, and so was the food. I had a full rack of ribs (of course). Delicious. My son had the jerk chicken. Wonderful. And my wife had the jerk chicken salad, which was fantastic. Finished off with carrot cake and rum cake!
