The location was a little trashy and the layout was mismatching picnic tables and turf floors. It was loud and busy, which is to be expected during lunch rush. The wait was extremely long for fast food, about 30 minutes. Understandable because I came at a peak time... But the food was not good enough the compensate. I ordered the wester bbq bacon cheeseburger and there was not nearly enough barbecue sauce. Everything was pretty sloppy in appearance and mediocre in taste. Milt's is the iconic burger place, we've picked up burgers, fries, & onion rings there before. Living in the neighborhood we typically call in the order, get the timing, then walk over to pick it up from the inside dining area. After the most recent visit, we've decided to no longer patronize Milt's or recommend it to others. If we could give it a 0, we would. Here's why: 1) Wait Times Are Excessive Ever waited 2+ hours for a burger you were told would be ready in 30 minutes? Yup, don't figure you'll get a correct estimate of timing -- especially on busy weekends. One person mans the phone asks someone who is flipping burgers but hasn't a clue how many orders are waiting, then passes that time on to you. We were told 30 minutes on the phone, got there and were told it would be another 30 minutes which then became another 30 minutes and in the end we waited over 2 hours. 2) Health Department Should Inspect This Place While it is Operating Restaurants and food service places have requirements for the health of the customer. Apparently this information isn't passed on to Milt's employees, or they don't take it seriously, or they simply don't get the necessary supplies to follow requirements. We watched those manning the grill and filling other orders for over an hour and a half. During that time we saw: Employees using their bare hands for handling buns and other food at least 75% of the time. (Gloves are supposed to be worn.) Surfaces where meat packaging and other materials were placed weren't wiped/cleaned afterwards. Employees going into "filled" orders to "fill" another order. Employees coming from the back room to the grill without washing their hands. 3) Your Order May Get Skimped Upon The employees are working hard to fill orders, but unfortunately don't seem to have that "plan ahead" training that allows orders to be properly filled. Case in point, one woman (who stepped in, but wore no gloves) found she'd not placed enough fries in the fryer to fill two orders, so she went over to waiting pickup orders and pulled fries from that order and placed them into our order to "fill" it. 4) Don't Expect the Burger to be Placed in the Bag These folks are "way" too busy to take care with your order. Anticipate the bun will be mashed onto the burger and you might just get 3 small pieces of chopped onion on it due to 3 above. They can't be bothered to keep enough supply to give a consistent product. Milt's is always busy in season, many times excessively so. So unless they're wasting their income, they should have plenty of $ to cover things like latex gloves and taking the time to train their employees on food preparation and restaurant health and safety regulations and practice. Having grown up with family in the restaurant business, this stuff would close restaurants in a heartbeat if it were witnessed by a health inspector. Milt's is a thriving business and it has the responsibility to its customers to provide a timely, consistent, and safe product. Unfortunately profit seems to be the goal and forget quality control. Patronize other restaurants who take public health more seriously. These folks simply hire the local college or high schoolers and other ad hoc helpers, then forget training and active management. Go somewhere else -- in the end you'll be happier with your choice. read more

We come to Moab to eat at Milt's and 4-wheel trails every September for 9 days. We sometimes eat at Milt's for lunch and dinner (the same day) or swing by before closing to get a shake. The owner and his staff are the best. Food is the freshest. I have not come close, here in Las Vegas, to a Milt's Double Baccon Cheeze Burger. Every time we try a new place, we say " It sure isn't a Milt's! " We missed eating at Milt's the first year we went to Moab ( Foolish, Foolish, stupid us!) I can't wait to wrap my hands around one of those juicy burgers and fresh chili cheeze tots and a thick shake...... I have to go now, can't stop mouth from watering. Stopped into Milt's after a day of hiking in Moab. Had a burger, fries, and ice cream. The food was average and the fries were oily and soggy. The worst I've ever eaten. Sent back the first serving and the second serving was no better! Ice cream satisfied on a hot day. Appreciate the history of this greasy spoon and the accommodating staff but the food didn't 'Wow' me. Sorry Milts. Found out about this place on the Yelp! Off the main highway, so thank goodness for yelp! Their fries and fry sauce were the best! Hamburgers were tasty, I got the blue cheese burger. Didn't have a lot of blue cheese on it so I dipped it in fry sauce. If you are out of state fry sauce is a Utah trade mark! Milt's know how to make it just right!!! Would go back again just for the fries and sauce. There Organic Peach shakes was shared with delight between my amazing husband and myself. Our hotel clerks ( a young woman and a young man ) recommended Milt's for great burgers. Knowing that sometimes the younger set can choose price over quality ( at least that's how we rated eating establishments when we were younger and money was tighter ) we decided nonetheless to give Milt's a try. At least tell me the wait will be another 90 mins. when I order so I can run away! The BBQ Turkey Melt & Orange Whip rocked. The veggie burger was great (according to my friend...really, who orders a veggie burger? Man up & eat some meat). The BLT was not good. Every time the owner is not cooking I always get crappy burgers, it bothers me. Also the fries are under cooked about 50% of the time I go there, that bothers me too. Unfortunately I did not follow my usual protocol and ordered food even though the owner was not there and I paid the price as usual, my optimism and hunger got the best of me. Of course as soon as I finished my meal the owner pulled in to start his shift on the flattop. I now will follow my rules rigidly and do my usual scout to see if he is cooking before ordering. This is the worst service I've ever received, and from the manager and store owner itself! I made a completely reasonable request to switch a sandwich out because they messed up the order twice after waiting an hour and a half for our food. The owner looked at us the second time and said, "Get out. Just take some money and go." The poor register lady couldn't argue because he was her boss. She said "Sorry" and gave us 20$. The food wasn't even that great. The fries were soggy and small and the wait wasn't worth it. We went to McDonald's afterwards and they got the order perfectly right. Milts is like stepping back in time to the 60's. I had a burger with fries, my wife had a chicken salad. It is tucked away way off main street, but it was super busy anyway, for sure not a secret spot. While it looks like an old school fast food joint it is not all that fast, it took a while to get our order. The salad was huge and beat my wife's expectations. The burger was good - nothing super special but better than average for this type of place for sure. My fries were on the limp side and I was not a big fan of them. It was a really nice day so we sat outside at a table and that was nice. It was cheap and easy and a real change of pace from the average place one has lunch at and it feels like a real slice of Moab history when you are sitting there. read more

From the reviews I was looking forward to eating here. Upon arrival the place is a dive, which for me tells me I might have discovered a gem but the burger and shake I ordered was horrendous! I would've been better off at any of the fast food burger places. Price is about the same as chain burgers but burger was dry and the shake I ended up throwing away. Milt's is the bomb! As I understand, it is the oldest eatery in Moab and well deserving of a visit any time you are in the area. This is one restaurant that still understands what customer service is: they know the local clientele and make sure tourists feel welcome. It's a little bit pricey for a burger joint, but you get what you pay for. The burgers are absolutely delicious (some of my favorites are the patty melt and the black and blue burger), and they get all their beef from Ye 'Ol Geezer Meat Shop at the south end of town, which, if you haven't checked it out, is amazing. 'Ol Geezer sells organic locally-raised and grazed beef, plus they have sweet hats. Anyway, back to Milt's, the milkshakes and fries are awesome too. If you're only there once, you must get a burger, fries and a milkshake- suck it up and take down the probably 1200 calories coming your way, you will thank yourself. Outdoor seating is on old-school picnic benches underneath a big shady tree, a great spot for warm Moab nights in the summer.
