Don't know what's going on with Mimis but the last two times I went not very happy. The bread baskets have been skimpy. They don't give the little sweet breads anymore they will sell them to you .. their bread basket was their signature. When you ordered a big salad you had a choose of a muffin of your choose or a French roll.. not anymore. They will sell you the muffin separate. The portions are very small . And very salty. I don't know what's going on but I don't believe they will be open much longer. Sad because me and my husband use to love it there . read more

"Meh. I've experienced better." is a good recap of this evening's meal. It is actually very heartbreaking, that the better experience is reached by going back in time... Mimi's is quite a distance, so we go for special occasions, and when there we fondly recall past events that we've celebrated there. Server Destiny was wonderful! Through her we learn that they've spent the past three months going through changes. Yowza, changes for sure... I'm not sure it's changes in a good way. There used to be colorful overhangs on the outside of the windows, and as you approached peppy French music greeted your ears. Entering the establishment, you might consider yourself in a Disney property as there was incredible theming and decorations to give a visual feast as you awaited your incredible meal. Now, the music is loud and sounds like... whatever else is culturally considered popular. The food is still a high point, but the walls are stripped of decorations, and so it seems like they are trying to modernize and sterilize. Always in the past we've had to wait, as it's full--as it should be, with customers giving their approval to an awesome establishment. Tonight? We walked in and were seated immediately. During our time, the four other parties in the room finished and left. When we were heading out, glancing around, it looked empty--spare the staff. The parking lot was pretty close to cleared out as well. It's such a shame. What happened? Nostalgia can be a powerful force, but also having the other additions helped make it a truly wonderful restaurant to go for special occasions. Now? Food and quality of service have declined tremendously in the last few years. Today I had corn chowder that was basically creamed corn, it had no other flavor. I left starving because I don't eat potatoes so basically I had 3 slices of deli meat and 1/2 cup frozen green beans for dinner. If I order a turkey "dinner" I EXPECT A DECENT AMOUNT OF REAL TURKEY WHEN IM PAYING $15 not 3 thin deli slices!! THIS WAS LIKE A BANQUET TV DINNER PUT ON A PLATE! Maybe even worse than banquet but the gravy was the same one. My daughter got an omelette. It was also ridiculous! Scrambled eggs folded in half with 2 slices of frozen fake bacon laid on top and 1/3 of an avocado served with FROZEN POTATOES! Wtf?! How is that an omelette?! Isn't an omelette STUFFED? This is my wife's favorite local place for eggs Benedict. The mimosas are good, the service is always excellent. Usually pretty busy on the weekends or holidays like Mother's Day but they will have free coffee and samples of their sweet breads and muffins. My Mom was here visiting from out of state and I wanted to her experience Mimi's. We were seated right away and did get our drinks right away. After 20 minutes we had to ask for someone to take our order. This USED to be one of my favorite places to eat. The ham and Suisse crepes were always amazing... apparently not that day. The ham was no where to be found and the sauce was sour. The potatoes that are normally delicious and crispy were bland and soggy. I ordered a grilled shrimp and pineapple salad. The shrimp were unseasoned and like rubber. Very over cooked. The fruit on my salad was minimal. For $17 you expect more than 3 pieces of shrimp and fruit. My husband got pasta, and his food too was not good. The restaurant wasn't busy. Maybe they were short staffed. Not sure what's going on here but they need to get their game back. read more

Me and my wife have been long time Mimi's customers. Well recently there has been some changes. There bread basket is a joke. 2 rock hard rolls. No more carrot bread or warm rolls. I heard 3 other tables complaining and they were told that it would cost extra. Also no more Tuscan chicken or chicken parmesan. I've been coming here for about 2 years and I love the food and service usually... but today was different I saw a new lady. I've been seeing so many new faces but this lady seemed to be in charge. She was talking to other employees telling them to do things but she was talking so aggressive!! We love Mimi's. So happy they have updated the decor, it was starting to feel a little dated. Music is amazing and upbeat. We sit in the bar and love the those girls. They make our meal complete. If I could give half a start I would. Came in for the Creme Brulee. Worst creme Brulee ever. The sugar topping was not even hard, soggy all the through and looked like it had been sitting for awhile. The food is utterly disgusting for the price your paying the atmosphere is probably the worse part of it all it's like a cafeteria at school, you can't even hear the people next to you. Only putting one star because I can't put zero. Came to have breakfast and was told 20 minutes wait time. 25 minutes passed so I went and asked how much longer, they said another 20 minutes. Those extra 20 minutes passed so we went inside seated in the seating area. She approached and said we were next. We then noticed she called two people that we saw check in after us. I approached her and asked why we hadn't been called and with an attitude said you had called and we ignored so she assumed we left . And that if I wanted to get seated I'd have to wait until the people after the list. I asked to speak to a manager and he found it simple to just say well seat you soon. Service has really gone down hill! If you're considering a visit to Mimi's in Modesto, think again and read the reviews. When it first opened, service was excellent and so was the food. Now, servers are rude, rush you out, and act annoyed if you ask for anything (like water). I called and spoke to the manager about my horrible experience but he just doesn't seem to get it. Mimi's restaurant have been closing in various areas and it makes you wonder if this location is next given the bad attitudes of the staff and lousy service. It's become a Denny's in terms of food quality. I wish I could give zero stars. It is December, 2019. I give them two years before they fold. Sad! read more

So very sad...this used to be a favorite go-to as the food and service were dependable with good value and portion size. No longer. We were a party of six, arriving at 6pm on a Thursday. Not at closing, not a large party, polite and we know our restaurant manners! The server was rude and took several other tables order ahead of ours, though they arrived after we did. She was rude and huffy and even moved other diners away from us (my 87-yr old mother and my military son were catching up...she's a little hard of hearing and he had to raise his voice a bit....if we were bothering anyone, we would have been glad to move!) It was awkward and uncomfortable. The food...oh the food. It reminded us of Kitchen Nightmares! My salad was wilted and soggy, the strawberries nearly gone bad. The chicken was dry and tasteless. My husbands "half-chicken" was a dried out leg, thigh, and wing. Where did the breast go? Maybe that was the dry and tasteless piece on my salad? My mothers fries were burnt, her fish oily and old, and all the portions were very small. Did I mention the carrot peel floating in my water glass? A carrot?! Anyway, though we were once loyal customers, we cannot recommend them. I'm just grateful none of us got sick, because the quality of food certainly could have led to it. read more

We had dinner at Mimis's by Vintage Fair Mall in Modesto, Ca. on July 6th, 2017, at about 5:00 pm. I was seated promptly & even got to select which window booth I preferred. The waitress named Daisy came over immediately, greeted me pleasantly & I immediately was impressed with the prompt attention received. Over the course of our visit she consistently came to us several times, taking our order, offering beverage refills & dessert and just asking us what else we needed. The service we received from Daisy was exemplary. I eat out at Mimi's & other restaurants in Modesto frequently, and can honestly say this is the best customer service I've received in many years. The food & selection is good- comparable pricing to other places in town, but with the great customer service offered I will certainly return soon! read more

My fiancé and I went to this cafe to grab a quick brunch. Unfortunately, it was not a quick brunch. The waitresses took ten minutes to get out drink and food order, our food took a long time to get to our table, and when we got our meal it was inedible. We ordered the mushroom bree burger and the mushrooms that were served on the burger were dried out and black, and the onions on the burger were barely cooked. Went back to Mimi's for the first time in over a year. In the past Mimi's has been consistently good. The meal today was pathetic. I ordered a half sandwich with corn chowder. The sandwich was served on a pathetic half burned piece of cheap whole wheat bread and the soup tasted like it came out of a generic can. The management and prep staff should be embarrassed. I will NEVER be back. McDonalds pays better attention to quality and service. My advice - leave Mimis in the past where it belongs. read more

Just had early lunch at the Dale Rd. Modesto location. Food very lackluster, server Tiffani one of the worst I've ever had. She actually tossed the sugar container on the table when my wife asked for one with real sugar. As a child, i would always pass this place going to the mall and I always thought this restaurant looked funny and for some reason I thought the food would be gross.... But boy, was I wrong. I ordered a Mahi Mahi and it was so dry, the buttery sauce was totally needed just for flavor. The sauteed mushrooms and garlic spinach tasted like canned vegetables. As soon as it was presented to me, I had no appetite for it. I could hear Chef Ramsey's voice in my head screaming to not eat it. Our server was very kind, but when we were asked "soup or salad", we were charged for it. Isn't the common insinuation when asked "soup or salad", it generally means that it comes with the meal? It was very disappointing that she at least didn't disclose that.
