I HAD TO go here with Mimi because... Well... This place is named after her!!! I had never heard of this restaurant chain before. They told me it's like a French Olive Garden! Haha! Hawaii doesn't have Olive Garden either... We just see the commercials on television. How cruel is that? Anyway, I was elated to dine with Mimi... she has the same name as Hello Kitty's twin sister! Cool, huh? However, Mimi in real life is cuter! Hee hee! So...Mimi's Cafe (in Monrovia, CA) is a great place because it has everything I like: free parking, convenient and clean restroom, great service, and good food! I had the Tuscan Omelet. Our experience here last Saturday was as good as it gets! I reserved their wine room for a large party from 12PM-2PM. They used my credit card to hold the reservation and said that the only requirement to reserve the space was that we had to pay at least $200 in food/drink while we were there. I asked if I could show up a little early, like maybe 11:30AM just to put up decorations since I was putting on a baby shower. The morning of, I called and they said there was no reservations before us so they went ahead and put us down for 11:30AM-2PM. When I got there I was running late since there had been an accident on the freeway and I was stuck in traffic going 0-5 miles an hour. It was 11:50AM and I started decorating as fast as I could. With the help of my family and a very sweet employee named Tia, we were able to get all of the decorations up just in time. I was so thankful that Tia helped us to get the room all ready that I told my father we should tip her well. During our meal my father remarked how wonderful Tia was to all of us. She frequently checked on our party of 12, offered refills, and got our entire order correct the first time. My boyfriend's dish came out a little later than everyone elses and when Tia arrived with it she apologized. She said others had taken all of the french fries for other plates and they had to wait for him to get the fresh ones. Indeed the meal was wonderful. I ordered an omelette with avocado and bacon and no cheese. I also ordered the muffin to go since I am gluten-free and they don't have gluten-free muffins. She brought my muffin in a box, just as I requested and she brought us extra boxes for the leftovers. I was so impressed with how Tia treated us that I wanted to leave this 5-star review. Thank you so very much for helping me in my time of need before the party, for being so attentive and sweet to us, and for doing your job quickly and efficiently. You are a wonderful waitress and I hope you get big tips every day! Customers are lucky to have you serve them! We look forward to coming back and since it's much easier and cheaper to reserve their wine room than I initially thought I may be reserving it again for future events. Mimis completely ruined Thanksgiving. After working 6:30 am - 5:00 pm, we showed up at 5:20 for our 5:30 pm reservation. The person checking people in said they didn't know how long it would be, but it could be an hour to an hour and a half wait to be seated! We found out they were accepting walk-ins in addition to the reservations. We waited until 6:30 pm. At that point, my husband went inside to see where we were in line. He overheard people who had arrived at 4:00 pm for their 4:30 pm reservations who STILL had not been seated. The check-in person told him we were currently at the bottom of page 2 of people waiting to be seated. Since I have to be up at 5 am for work tomorrow and it was clear we weren't getting seated anytime soon, we just left. I am now sitting at home eating a microwavable meal. Thanks Mimi's for completely mismanaging Thanksgiving. Reservations clearly meant nothing. Walk-ins should have never been accepted if people with reservations were being made to wait several hours past their reservation time. Mimi's will never get my business ever again. read more

No wonder they closed down Los Feliz branch, this afternoon I took my daughter there for a French onion soup date we drove all the way from Silverlake to the Monrovia location. It was very disappointing, poor service the server took so long to come and greet us, we only ordered French onion soup and carrot raisin bread. So I feel like he didn't care to serve us! Not friendly felt rushed! And took the French onion soup a long time to come more then usual time. Mind you the place was very empty and finally when he came out and hand us the soup. It looked like he was just got done eating he was chewing as he was walking just unprofessional. I had to ask for water he didn't ask what kind of drink we wanted to order. I just felt rushed! If you enjoy hospital food, go to Mimi's cafe. Everything served here is bland and probably prepared by people in a coma. My Mediterranean quinoa chicken salad is a scam out of $13. They basically throw together some basic lettuce, a few tomatoes and cucumbers and a sprinkle of quinoa along with cold tasteless chicken and call it a day. It was more basic than a McDonalds salad. The fettuccini alfredo suffers from the same "I taste like cardboard" symptoms. Service was good and plenty of parking since the restaurant was half full on a Saturday. My coworker likes to come here for work get togethers. It's easy to make reservations for large parties and if they accomodate your large party in the separate dining area, it's even better. On my latest visit, they wouldn't allow us to sit in the bigger dining area due to lack of staff. Instead, our party of 20 was squished together and it was very cramped. Everyone was eating elbow to elbow. The Sante Fe Omelet looks better than it taste. It was very bland. They gave the smallest amount of guacamole and salsa. It comes with your choice of toast or muffin. I got the carrot raisin muffin and it was great! I could eat a couple of these. It's not overly sweet and has lots of raisins and shreds of carrots throughout. Not my first choice for breakfast around the area. It's been a few years since we've been here. Memories of great service, a delicious bread basket before our meal, and a pretty satisfying meal were etched in my mind. I bought tickets to Lightscape at the Arboretum as a Christmas present for my family, and since we were in town, decided to eat at Mimi's. Holy crap has this place has gone downhill. First sign should've been how dead the place was when we walked in. The host seemed shocked to have customers when we walked in. As for our server, she was wearing a worn out windbreaker over her uniform because the little space heaters they had on the counter heating the indoor dining area weren't doing their job. After we were seated, we placed our drink order and got a basket of stale sliced French Bread... I guess no more delicious bread basket? Then after about 10 mins we finally get our drinks and place our order. We ordered 3 burgers, a French onion soup, and a kids Chicken Tender meal. Pretty basic simple order. After a 40+ minute wait we finally get our order. The burgers tasted like we were suffering from Covid. Zero flavor. My kid's chicken tenders wasn't any better. Bland would be a compliment for how tasteless these things were. Overall, this was THE worse dining out experiences I've had in a very long time. From the slow service to the very disappointing food, I highly recommend this place put itself out of its misery and just close down. read more

Update: Second time here because of their buy $25 and get $5 free promotion. We stopped by on Valentine's Day and the first thing they told us was that we couldn't use our coupon because it was a holiday. Our server was very serious about it and we even told her that the coupon didn't mention the holiday issue. They had to take it up with the manager and they finally told us it was okay but that we couldn't use both coupons at the same time (since we bought $50 and got two $5 coupons). When we bought the coupons our server didn't mention it to us and now we are left with one $5 coupon that we will probably never use. We will always be faithful patrons here. Sometimes the food and service can be a bit slow, yes. But it is well worth the wait. I think his name is Luciano? Has been there for a long time. He is an incredible server despite sometimes having like 15-20 tables to take at one time. No one can fault this place for being short staffed. Nobody wants to work these days and many that do work call off leaving their peers and managers with more work to do. The staff that does work here is amazing despite how overworked and short staffed they are. Their benedicts are incredible. The French onion soup is to die for. Muffins OMG. Had high hopes for it but really was not good. The chicken pot pie was only half full and the turkey dinner was really not tasty. The staff was very nice and very courteous and apologized for the chicken pot pie. They did bring over another ramekin of filling for the pie, it was vety soupy. Let me start by saying that my husband and I have come to this spot for a long time. I need to write this to let u all know that this restaurant deserves support. The staff worked together very well and extremely hard to make the apparent under staffing a non-issue for their guests. We sat on the patio and my husbands first thought was that we would be forgotten outside. Better than I remember. I hadn't been to a Mimi's in years, maybe since I was still in jr. high or something. Came back to give them another try for brunch and wasn't disappointed. The space is very cozy despite its size, and the interior is just surprisingly clean, especially for an older American chain establishment. The hostess and every server we ran into were all super courteous and gracious, and that's really refreshing these days. The food was decent. My steak and eggs were cooked as I requested, and the fries were well seasoned. Pancakes are pretty good, and they let you order just one or two, if you want them as a side. I will say the breakfast potatoes are a little bit bland, compared to the shoestring fries, and the quiche we also ordered tasted like it may have been yesterday's leftovers (crust was way too hard). So I guess your enjoyment will come down to what you order... though in all fairness, I find quiches are the most hit or miss at ANY establishment. I would say the mom 'n' pop/independent places we have in the 626 are better in terms of food quality at this price range, but Mimi's is a good way to skip the crowds/lines if you wake up a bit later than usual and don't feel like battling the wait times for Russell's or Millie's or wherever. Plus, parking is easy. Overall, can't knock Mimi's, and I'd definitely come back in the near future to try some other menu items. read more

As my partner and I had to travel from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on Thanksgiving Day so we could appear on KTLA the next morning to promote our upcoming concert in Downey, CA, we didn't want to miss out on enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner that night, so I called Mimi's Cafe located at 2925 Los Feliz Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039 on Monday November 20 at 7:58pm and asked what time they closed on Thanksgiving. The lady who answered the phone said they closed at 9:00pm on Thanksgiving and she recommended that we call at 5:00pm on Thanksgiving day to place an order and tell them what time we would be coming to pick it up. While I was driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on Thanksgiving Day, I called Mimi's at 5:15pm to place an order for pickup. The lady was rude and said they were too busy to take my order and said I should come by in person to place my order. She said they closed at 9:00pm. At 7:34pm when we were about 35 minutes away, I called again from my car and the lady said they were now closing at 8:00pm, not 9:00pm. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager also told me that they were closing at 8:00pm. I told her that I was told previously that they were closing at 9:00pm and that by the time we would arrive, they would be closed. My concerns fell on deaf ears. With our plans to enjoy a quiet Thanksgiving dinner in our hotel with a quality meal from Mimi's ruined, we had no choice but to find any place open, so we had no choice but to eat our Thanksgiving dinner at Denny's. The behavior of the lady from Mimi's who refused to take our phone order at 5:15pm and the unprofessional attitude of the manager is completely unacceptable. We received no apology nor did we receive an explanation as to why the time Mimi's was closing changed from 9:00pm to an hour earlier at 8:00pm. I emailed Mimi's customer service and explained what happened. It's been a month since then, and Mimi's ignored my complaint without a reply. read more

We used to eat at this Mimi's frequently, and I loved their breakfasts. There was always lots of customers and wait time to be seated, but dining there was worth it. Today such was not the case. There was no line, but we had a long wait to order, for the food and coffee refill, as well as for the check. We went there today for Father's Day. We knew it will be busy. We waited 35-40 minutes. No problem. But then almost everything they did was wrong. My wife's toast came late. She ate her mom toast. I wanted English Muffins dry, it came out soaked in butter. We ask for refill for our coffee to three different staff member never came(Until the bill came) Granted they and other restaurants don't have enough help but we saw the manager wiping down tables and bringing more customers to their tables when they couldn't even serve the customers they already had. I blame the manager she should at minimum go around tables fill their customers coffee and ask if everything is alright. I wanted to celebrate Fathers Day today at Mimi and start the day with a great breakfast instead this whole disaster lasted two hours and we left disgusted and frustrated. read more

I can't remember the last time I was at Mimi's. Not sure why its been so long, but that was my loss. This is not gourmet, by any stretch of the imagination, but all three of our meals: French Dip, Rib eye, and grilled salmon were all tasty and hit the spot. I'm happy to report the French onion soup was as good as remembered. While the blackened salmon was prepared well (surprisingly, not overcooked), it was just a bit on the salty side, not inedible, but a little more salt than I prefer. Not a big deal. Asked for the rib eye medium rare, it came out medium rare, good quality piece of meat too! The service was friendly and efficient. Shout out to Desiree who took good care of us during the meal.
