I hadn't been to Mimi's Café in over 10 years, so going back for an early Easter brunch with my family felt a little nostalgic--and I'm happy to say it was a pleasant surprise! I ordered the salmon with sweet corn, and it was absolutely amazing. We devoured it. We also ordered a roasted half chicken with garlic spinach, which was unexpectedly delicious, along with fries that rounded out the plate nicely. My uncle ordered the pot roast, and it looked just as good as it tasted, he cleaned his plate completely. The quality of the food really stood out to me. I wasn't sure what to expect after so long, but everything we tried was flavorful and satisfying. While the service could have been a bit more attentive, it wasn't bad by any means and didn't take away from the overall experience and I would definitely return! read more

I made an 11:00 AM reservation at Mimi's Cafe through the OpenTable app for Mother's Day. My daughter and I arrived early at 10:45 AM, only to be told by the host that despite having a reservation, we would still need to wait 45 minutes to an hour to be seated because they were "packed." He stated that all guests with reservations would still have to wait. I explained that I have a disability and cannot stand for long periods of time, and I requested to speak with a manager. After waiting another 5 minutes, the host returned and said the manager would not be coming out and repeated that we would still need to wait. There was no acknowledgment, accommodation, or concern shown regarding my disability. This was extremely unprofessional and disappointing. If a restaurant cannot honor reservations made through OpenTable, they should remove themselves from the platform instead of misleading customers. I could have made reservations elsewhere closer to home and avoided wasting my time and gas driving there. Sadly, this experience completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice Mother's Day outing. As some of us know a lot of Mimi's Cafes went out of business. Sad but true. The one that I used to go to pretty frequently was in Atwater Village close to Hollywood. That one also shut down. As I checked out of the hotel that I was staying at, got very hungry before taking the freeway to head home. I noticed that there was a Mimi's Cafe on Huntington Drive and got super excited to go in. Walked in yesterday around 1:15pm and was greeted by the host named Kevin. He was pleasant, nice and took me to my seat in their main dining room. The restaurant was very clean including both bathrooms and they also have a gender neutral restroom. The manager by the name of Ramiro came by to take my order. He was kind, patient, and had good customer service skills. Knew his job well. On this visit, I ordered their Birria Dip Sandwich which came with Birria beef, melted mozzarella cheese, grilled onions, cilantro, and jalapeños, The sandwich came with a side of crispy French fries on a Ciabatta roll. $18.99. It was super tender, hot, fresh, and made to perfection! I also got a side veggie salad that had lettuce, tomato, & croutons.$4.49. Also very fresh & delicious. For dessert, I got their Carrot Loaf with walnuts.$5.99. My server Kayley was sweet, helpful and did an excellent job serving me. She was quick and efficient. Checked on me few times to make sure I was doing well. The place is very big, has a bar, and beautiful artwork on the walls. Over the years Mimi's Cafes quality and service at this location have gone down hill. I keep going for random dinners on weeknights. The food isn't as fresh or the quality isn't there. I've tried to give grace over time but today was the icing on the cake. We made a reservation on OpenTable knowing it's a holiday and that some places will be closed and others packed. We figured Mimi's isn't too far from City of Hope, where we would be headed after to see my mom. We arrived and we were told that the wait would be an hour+ since their reservations are all full. I asked why would I be able to make one and they said they allow you to do that even if it's full. I know for a fact that you can turn that off if you're full or unable to take more reservations. So they are making the choice to inconvenience and waste peoples time. As I'm writing this, you can still make reservations ever 15 mins all day even though I was told there are no more reservations for the day. Guess I'll be grabbing something at the hospital while I visit my mom. read more

Mimi's - Monrovia - dad and I both had the turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and green beans, and cranberry sauce - which was delightful. We also had the tomato basil soup - it was exceptional! - they knocked it out of the park! I also had a glass of the Malbec wine, which was quite good. also, the complementary bread in the table was good almost a sourdough with kind of a cooked in a fire vibe with the burnt edges. The ambiance here has always been lovely. The service is usually slow but on January 26th, when I went to take my friend out for her birthday, our server was actually pretty good. I would have chosen a different restaurant but I had a Mimi's gift card and my friend likes Mimi's. My friend had the salmon meal and said it was delicious. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad. The lettuce was browning and the flavor was meh. Usually there is cabbage in these salads but I don't remember if the menu said there would be. I didn't complain because my friend was enjoying her food so much I didn't want to spoil her experience but my salad was a waste of money in so many ways. This place still has the French marketplace charm from years gone by. This chain was amazing before the Covid and I always drive by this location and it always seemed closed - forever gone I thought until today. My wife and I saw some activity while heading to Trader Joe's for some flowers and Kimbap. And on the way out we decided to get out and go in to finally confirm or deny whether it's open for business or just a place for senior seminars. Well to our surprise it was open! The bran muffin is slightly smaller but everything is still wonderful. This place needs to be back in everyone's rotation. Banners should be out there saying "we have been open, come on in!" And, banners should be out there facing the street whenever there is something special which is every month: New Years, Valentines, St Patty's, etc every month. The vast majority of people didn't know it was open all this time. I'm hoping word of mouth brings back the busy breakfasts and the happy energy ambiance (but I enjoyed the late lunches and early dinners because of the breads and cakes)! After a disappointing experience a few years ago, we decided to give this place another try for their all-day breakfast around 5 PM. We ordered the Two Waffles Grande ($15.99), which came with 2 waffles, 2 eggs (ordered over-easy but served overcooked), and 2 slices of bacon. We also added potatoes ($3.69) and peppers/onions ($2.29). With 10.5% tax and the lowest tip option of 18%, the total came to $28.65. At that price point, we expected the meal to be much better in quality. We also tried a salad, but unfortunately it had a strange smell and wasn't enjoyable. Both entrees were delicious and the muffin is AMAZING as it comes out nice and warm. However, I was disappointed that the portions were really small for the price paid. Especially for the Jambalaya - it may look like a lot on the plate at first glance, but it was spread out soo thinly that I was still hungry after finishing the entire plate. Our waitress was really friendly, but we did have to flag her down multiple times for refills on our water and coffee. For the ambience, I always love the cozy homey feel inside of a Mimi's. There is plenty of parking available in the lot which is always a plus. The food was satisfactory and delivered quickly after ordering, the service was decent, the dining environment was pleasant, and parking was easily obtained outside. My only real gripe (a minor one) is that my apple juice was served room temperature ... unless it's an industry standard practice that I was not aware of (is it???), I feel like it would have been better if they served it chilled. Room temperature apple juice just leaves something to be desired - in retrospect, I probably should have asked the server to add some ice to it. It was overloaded with peas, had no noticeable potatoes, and the chicken tasted like it was boiled with zero seasoning. Even hot sauce couldn't save it. Overall, it was bland and unappetizing. Pedro, one of the Managers worked with me to book the private room for a brunch honoring my son's high school graduation. We spoke over the phone and in person to schedule the date, time, menu options and deposit payment. He was incredibly friendly and helpful! I opted for a pre-fixe menu and had my own menus printed, which added a special touch and made things easier for the kitchen staff and my guests. We arrived a little early to set up the room and he made sure I had everything I needed. Kevin was our main server the day of the event and was outstanding! No long wait times for food, drink or picture taking requests. Our party of 20 left with full stomachs and smiles. Thank you Mimi's for helping create special memories for us on this big event. The host was very friendly, the server was also but felt a little rushed to order right away. All the food was delicious specially the Potato Cake Benedict, Fire! Easily the worst dining experience I've had in over a decade. Made a reservation for Mother's Day to have brunch with my lovely mother. Checked in 10 minutes early and it was very busy. Okay fine. 30 minutes later still not seated. Checked with the hostess again to find out she'd actually crossed my name off the list and was seating people that came after us, even without reservation. Not only that, gave attitude why I was asking and said they'd call me when a table was ready. Clearly not. We finally get seated and given the holiday dinner menu. I ask if they have a brunch menu and our waitress, Kali, says it's past brunch and they only have the one menu for Mother's Day. I was not happy about this. The entire reason we choose Mimi's was to get brunch. I was about ready to walk out but my mom was hungry and we'd already been waiting an hour and a half at this point. So we order something even though it's not what we really wanted. Afterwards, we notice every single table around us is getting served breakfast. Had we just missed some arbitrary cutoff time? Skeptical, we ask a different waiter if they only had one menu for the holiday, and they said no, there was indeed a brunch menu and it was being served. By now the food had already come and we didn't want to make a big scene about getting the order changed. We then notice the table next to us being served by the same waitress was given the dinner menu. When they asked if there's a different menu, the waitress promptly gave them the brunch menu. Clearly, there is a double standard going on here. At this point we're very annoyed and ready to leave. We ask for the check and just box up the dessert to go. We don't want to stay any longer. The waitress continues to give attitude and left a very bad experience. This felt like inconsistent service at best, and dismissive at worst. All Server Must Treat All Customers the same way, not nice to others while rushing on others. We came on Veterans Day and Mimi's was giving a free meal to veterans. Thank you Mimi's. Everyone was busy. My husband ordered the fish and chips and substituted green beans for the coleslaw. It was the best fish and chips he had in the area . We have looked for f&c at several places even seafood places and found them disappointing. The fish was beautifully prepared. It ttaste good and the batter was just right not too thick. The french fries very good and better than any burger place. My husband said they tasted good even when they got.Cold. The green beans looked and tasted good too. I had the salmon salad and it was cooked just right- not well done. Overall we enjoyed our meal and were pleasantly surprise at how good it was. NEVER AGAIN. We got a reservation a week in advance and confirmed it and when we got there, they told us it would be an hour wait. They told us that we were lucky we had made a reservation because if not, it was a 2 to 3 hour wait. No apology, told us we were lucky. They told us it was just policy to take that many reservations. I asked why they would take more reservations than they could handle and they said it's because they never know who's gonna show up. They were about 60 people waiting for tables and because it's Mother's Day we couldn't make a reservation someplace else. They basically ruined Mother's Day for all of these people. And they weren't even apologetic. We waited the hour. The food was not that good, so it is definitely not something to wait for. We just had nowhere else to go because we didn't know this was their policy. To take all of the reservations and then just hope some people didn't show up. It's like an airline that over books. I felt so bad for the families with kids waiting over an hour. We kept our cool until we had waited the hour and they told us that it could be another 30 minutes. It's one thing to make a mistake, but it's another to be rude while doing it. They even tried to tell us that it's what happens with restaurants. I know that when I make reservations, I usually expect it to be around the time for the reservation. You could tell that they were about 15-20 families there who were incredibly angry. I'm pretty certain that none of us will all be there for Mother's Day next year. Because of this experience, I actually will never go back again. read more
