S. returns the favor with Mimi's Cafe. French food was the envy of the world, until Mimi got a hold of it. Mimi's serves food that is overpriced by American standards. It also lacks taste. The owners of Mimi's understand that customers are not likely to come back, so they have no incentive to impress you. I, myself, am not going to be repeat business. Chicken tenders....yes, chicken tenders (offres de poulet) will run you $17 no fries. Traditional French Onion Soup has savory stock and onions as a base, making the broth savory and interesting. If you are used to the traditional highly seasoned beef or veal broth, you will be sadly disappointed. Filled with ketchy, clunky, dirty, dusty decorations that don't help tell the brand story, and detract from profits. Mimi's needs to get rid of irrelevant decorations and make sure to dust and vacuum regularly. The accumulation of dust or grime detracts from the overall dining experience. Having a concept is important, but making that concept clear at a restaurant is even more so. Some of the most revered and complex elements of French cuisine are in danger here. Drive past Mimi's and head to McD's for a better option....killer "French" fries. read more

Pulled up about an hour after opening; people are scattered here and there but it's largely empty. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We ordered the Malted Waffles and Cinnamon Roll French Toast with an Iced Mocha. The iced mocha looks like a chocolate shake but is surprisingly strong/good. The waffles were decent. Everything here was average. From services to the food. There were empty tables but they wanted everybody to wait. The host who seated us also took our drinks order. The hot chocolate looked crappy/messy. The coffee she brought out was cold. I had to ask them to bring me another cup which tasted watery. The food was only OK. We got the rib eye steak, the steak strip, the roasted turkey, corn soups and cranberry crumble for dessert. Corn soup was probably the best. The rib eye steak weren't tasty enough for the price of $23 something. The steak strip was not tender enough ($20). The roasted turkey was whatever. The sides were good. We got mashed potatoes, potatoe au gratin, garlic spinach and broccoli. What I disliked the most was the server dishonesty. I used this coupon to redeem a free entree up to $17. I understand that they will take off the cheapest item and the turkey was the cheapest (15.99). However, she only took off 13.99. She cheated me 2$. It wasn't a lot but it ain't cool. Also, our server never came to ask if anyone at my table needed refills. My nephew finished his sprite and she didn't bothered asking. I had to tag her to get refills for my coffee. She noticed I had only one creamer but didn't cared. I still tipped off the original price without taking off the 13.99. I gave 20% but honestly, the server didn't deserved it but its the new year so just being nice. Don't try to cheat your customers!!! Most people notice it. Had the Quiche Florentine. Great flavor, excellent crust, very flaky and tender. I got their potatoes with it, and they are a bit too salty but the flavor is good. Excellent friendly service! This is a chain, so everything is pretty consistent from location to location. They have an extensive menu, and everything I have tried has been good to excellent. Wow! What happened to Mimi's Cafe? In my younger years, this was a happening place. We were looking for a place to eat on a Friday night and every sit down restaurant in the area was slammed. Found Mimi's Cafe off Huntington in Monrovia and was happy to see no wait. Well, after eating here, now I know why. It's 7:30pm on a Friday night and the place only has a few people. When we walked in the server cheerfully said, "sit anywhere you want!" This can be a good or bad thing. We sat down in a booth. The server handed us menus and walked away. I started to have a bad feeling when I saw no one else working. I felt like I was in a small mom and pop restaurant! My gut was telling me this is not the Mimi's of before. The menus we got were pretty beat up, edges were curled and bent up. There was no complimentary bread basket like before. We looked at the menu and while there were many choices, the prices were high too. I settled for my usual Mimi's order which is a quiche Lorraine. The Mimi's quiche has always been a favorite of mine and it used to be served with fruit. This time it was a side and I chose the rice medley (big mistake on my part). I also ordered unsweetened ice tea and it was pretty strong. The server took our drink and food order at the same time and quickly brought our drinks. We waited a while for our food to arrive. I joked with my spouse that it was taking so long because the server must also be the cook! I swear I didn't see any other Mimi's staff until we left. Back in the day, Mimi's had lots of staff waiting on or clearing tables, greeting and sitting people down. This last visit, I was surprised how run down the service had become. When the food finally arrived, I was excited to eat my Mimi's quiche. The portion used to be a large triangle slice and it was fluffy and the bread flakey. What I got was a round mini quiche that hardly had any egg. It was not fluffy and the bacon overpowered the entire quiche. I felt like I was eating a pot pie of bacon and cheese. What the heck is this, Mimi's? Top of the quiche was pretty dark and looked almost burned. This tells me they warmed this up from a previous time and it was not freshly made. It was probably made 8am that morning and sat all day for an unlucky customer like me. The rice medley had no flavor and pretty boring. My spouse said the jambalaya was not spicy and it was not the best jambalaya he ever had. He said it was "okay". Overall, I was sad when I left Mimi's because it was no longer the shiny diamond it was in its hey day. Rather, it is an overpriced restaurant with mediocre food. I would be happy to pay more if the food was outstanding and the service was top notch. I felt bad for the server because he was alone the whole time, doing everything himself. Honestly, I will not come back to this Mimi's location because it pretty much "sucks" and the only thing I walked out with was a full belly and a yearn of better days for Mimi's Cafe. read more

This place is so underrated! I had a great time with my sister at Mimi's cafe. The place is so cute and homey. The service is great; they were all very nice and accommodating. The 3 course $30 meal was a steal! Corn chowders is good, salmon was cooked perfect and the molten lava cake was to die for. Is this place haunted? Me and my brother came here tonight for dinner. We haven't been here in years. Only 2 cars in the parking lot at 5:15pm? We should have kept driving. The server did not say 1 word to us??? He tossed the menu on the table and came back with order pad and pen and we told him our order. He brought us a disgusting warm limp salad we paid $4 for, I couldn't eat mine and a disgusting concoction of a main course. Before we left we asked for our check he dropped them on the table and walked away with a disgusted attitude. We gave him our money and he turned around and walked away. No bye, no thank you, no have a good evening. About the hauntedness, there is a very spooky feeling in here, beyond the ghoul who served us. I would not want to spend any time in this dump alone. I love Mimi's cafe. I have been going to this chain since the early 90s....there's just so many favorites that I have here...on the breaksfast menu their corn beef hash and pan perdu are a my favorites. For their lunch and dinner menu you can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches or pastas. And if you haven't tried their French Onion Soup, it's the best. Interior: 4/5 The interior is decorated like a a French theme. There's paintings everywhere that features the culture. I have a video posted so you can see what I'm talking about. Service: 5/5 our server Michael was attentive and brought out our food and filled our drinks in a timely manner. I know we came in at a time when he was slammed but he still managed to bus, great, and refill all his tables. Bread Basket: 5/5 their complimentary carrot loaf is my favorite! I can eat it all day long. I always ask for more and they will bring it out for you. Food: 4/5 like I said (see above)...food is really good and it's decently priced. Decent food with friendly service. The Smoked Salmon Omelet came with capers, roasted potatoes, and a choice of muffin or toast. The omelet is well cooked. The potatoes would've tasted better if the skin were crispier, but it tasted fine overall. The muffin was large, served warm, and tasted very fresh. The Coastal Shrimp Pasta has a strong lemon flavor and was on the saltier end. The shrimp itself tasted fine, but it was hard to finish because of the saltiness. read more

Mimis completely ruined Thanksgiving. After working 6:30 am - 5:00 pm, we showed up at 5:20 for our 5:30 pm reservation. The person checking people in said they didn't know how long it would be, but it could be an hour to an hour and a half wait to be seated! We found out they were accepting walk-ins in addition to the reservations. We waited until 6:30 pm. At that point, my husband went inside to see where we were in line. He overheard people who had arrived at 4:00 pm for their 4:30 pm reservations who STILL had not been seated. The check-in person told him we were currently at the bottom of page 2 of people waiting to be seated. Since I have to be up at 5 am for work tomorrow and it was clear we weren't getting seated anytime soon, we just left. I am now sitting at home eating a microwavable meal. Thanks Mimi's for completely mismanaging Thanksgiving. Reservations clearly meant nothing. Walk-ins should have never been accepted if people with reservations were being made to wait several hours past their reservation time. Mimi's will never get my business ever again. read more

THERE IS MOLD ON THE BREAD. I would like to start that the service was already shot, the server served me my coffee with a dirty mug (someone else's lipstick stain on it) I chose to ignore it because it can happen to anyone. Then when our muffin came out the server also forgot to give us our settings so we were staring at our food for 15 mins because it happened to be a busy morning. Obviously the mold on the bread was the straw that broke the camel's back. IT'S MOLD. The manager then said "it happens, it's just bread - if you want to leave you may." So it gives me the idea that maybe this happened before? Horrible experience with horrible cleaning.
