If you haven't checked this place out, you should. The steak bomb, cheese burger, and kebab subs are amazing!

It's Mimi's, what else is there to know? If you don't know about this place then... That's okay, because till today neither did I!! It's a tiny shop of a bygone, more civilized age and it's owner and food reflect that. An experience from back when fast food wasn't a coorporate, soulless experience and was handmade with quality and passion. When you walk in you're confronted by the owner, a nice man of around 70 who told me he's been working his shop for 37 years. Prices are great and look like food prices from pre-covid times (in a good way)! I got the fish sandwich on recommendation from the owner and he fried it right then and there. Fresh cooked everything. Crispy, fresh, juicy haddock with a slathering of tarter sauce and a good handful of lettuce between two hot soft buns. Delicious. The fries were also spectacular. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, they tasted like an upgraded McDonald's french fries, and they actually tasted like potatoes indicating they were probably made in house. Not sure if they are but they definitely tasted it! Fries needed a bit of salt but in every regard they blew the competition out of the water. There was a small bench to sit in and it gave an antiquated, quaint vibe, but this is more of a take out food place. Worth it to drive her just for the fries alone. People complaining of parking are right, but you can honestly park across the street at the Dunkin's anyways. The only inconvenience is that there's an $11 dollar minimum for card, which, considering the food is so cheap, is hard to reach with just a sandwich (hint: get fries to reach this). So keep that in mind. I highly highly highly recommend Mimi's! This place is where it's at!

I used to visit a Mimi's in Waltham years ago before they closed and was always a solid Roast beef sandwich with north shore type and real Roast beef. I was in Watertown and saw this Mimi's and assumed associated with prior one from Waltham. I saw menu and price for a super roast beef sandwich was 8.90.... Reasonable I ordered with cheese and was 9.70 with tax. Onion roll on point toasted. Roast beef was not North Shore real Roast beef. It was a ham type roast meat just like Arby's roast beef and salty . I don't like as I don't like Arby's roast beef for a Roast beef sandwich. Mayo, barbecue sauces, cheese all as expected. If you like Arby's then you will like this. I do like Arby's beef and cheddar sandwich if desperate... but never would ever considered this super beef like I eat at Nics roast beef in Northshore Beverly Ma. or other similar sandwiches. I wanted to like this place as prices reasonable, but ham cold sliced type meat of some sort won't do it for me. Not the Mimi's as was in Waltham used to be real deal. I won't be eating here again.

    Regular roast beef sandwich. Moi!!!

Yummmmmmm!!! How have we lived in Watertown this long and never tried Mimi's Roast Beef sandwiches!! Deeeeelicious!! Absolutely mouthwatering!!

Super roast beef sandwich w bbq sauce, mayo, and pickles!

This place is the ultimate hole in the wall! Don't be deterred from the outdated menu sign; the man behind the counter/kitchen is always making my sandwich just right during my lunch breaks! I call ahead and he has it ready in 5 minutes. I will say, the "junior" roast beef, although only $7, is really on worth $7. So get the "super roast beef" sandwich if you're hungry!! Fresh onion rings that aren't too battered or greasy. And yes, the minimum is $11. But keep in mind during covid times, restaurants are taking hits and if they have a card minimum it's bc they include the fees card machines charge the restaurant :)

The owner has been serving for over 40 years...wonderful guy and good food. The roast beef is especially delicious and so tender.

For such a small shop it turns out a large taste. A must try is their roast beef sandwich with cheese and BBQ sauce.

Little hole in the wall sub shop with friendly staff and much more than just subs!…read more The onion rings were amazing! After reading some reviews, I decided to pay for extra cheese because I saw that their cheesesteaks may not be up to par on my preferred cheese level. I'm so glad I did! I don't think the cheesesteak without the extra cheese would've been as good. DEFINITELY A LOT OF MEAT AND DEFINITELY GREAT FOR THE PRICE!

Carl's is the definition of a true hole-in-the-wall--and I mean that literally. If you're waiting…read moreto order or pick up, you're basically standing against the wall. No seating, no lingering, no fluff. This place is all about the food, and honestly... respect. They're best known for their cheesesteaks (for good reason), but the menu goes beyond that with subs, quesadillas, burritos, and salads. Pro tip: order ahead. Space is tight, especially in the winter, and while I've heard there may be outdoor tables in warmer months, this is very much a grab-and-go operation. Now let's talk portions--because WOW. I picked up a bag with five subs (cheesesteaks and chicken parm), and I almost dropped it. That thing was HEAVY. Full arm workout included. And here's the real tip: the small is pretty big. Like, plenty big. You absolutely do not need the large unless you're feeding an entire second person. The chicken parm was double-layered with chicken, not overly breaded, and absolutely hit the spot. As my boyfriend says, you usually don't think much about rating chicken parm unless it's bad... and this was very much not bad. The cheesesteak was excellent--tons of flavor, generous portions, and I loved that the peppers and onions were finely chopped and mixed right into the meat. Every bite delivered. Next time, I've got my eye on the nacho cheesesteak, because clearly I like to live my life with intention. No frills, big flavors, and serious bang for your buck. If you're craving a cheesesteak and don't need a place to sit, Carl's absolutely delivers. Would order again--and definitely recommend.

** Updating previous review with more tapas rankings **…read more Yuca Frita (9.5/10): These are so freaking delicious, wow. The cilantro aioli was an amazing dipping sauce. They really are fried to perfection. Frituras de Maiz: (10/10): Wow, these fritters are also amazing. They come with such a rich sauce. The fritters are exploding with flavor. Cazuela de Coliflor Asada (9/10): Insanely good dish. The cauliflower has perfect texture, complemented by the pistachios. The sauce is SO good. The cauliflower soaks it up so well. Chicharrones (9/10): Melt in your mouth pork belly. The pork skin crust was perfect. The sauces really make most of the dishes here. This dish is no different - I loved the sauce. Ropa Vieja (9/10): Perfectly slow cooked meat. One thing that really stood out to me was actually the white rice. The rice was VERY high quality, and I appreciated it so much. It's rare to come by rice this good. It had the perfect texture, chew, and fragrance. Ropa Vieja de Hongos (9/10): Pretty much the same as Ropa Vieja above. The mushrooms are delicious, and the dish is just as good whether your order the mushroom or steak version. Empanada del Carne (9/10): Oh man, the crusts are so good. This is pretty on par with the ones I just had in Puerto Rico. Chuletas de Cordero (8/10): The seasoning is heavenly. I was licking the lamb chops clean. Croquetas (8/10): Very solid croquetas. Wouldn't say it's a must-order, but you can't go wrong with them. Costillas a la Guayaba (6/10): The first time I had this it was really nicely marinated, and the rib meat is so tender that it almost falls off the bone. The second time, the meat was dry. Maduros con Tocino (6.5/10): This dish was pretty good, but got overshadowed by the other ones. Pulpo (6.5/10): Octopus was tender and savory. The potatoes were too salty. Camarones a la Plancha (6.5/10): Solid dish, but I enjoyed some other ones even more. Ensalada de Aguacate y Pina (6/10): The salad was a bit too sour, and that sourness overpowered the dish. It was a great blend of ingredients, though. *** and one dessert *** Churros con Chocolate (8.5/10): Big crunchy fluffy churros!! The chocolate sauce is amazing (not really spicy at all). You have to get this for dessert!!
