Yesterday between 2:30 -5:00 I was to host a baby shower for my daughter at Mimi's Tea Cottage. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans. All last week the various weather models were all over the place. Most showed the storm hugging the coast. The storm was to move in as the sun went down and darkness set in. Sunday morning the forcast had changed. The storm moved westward. All that lived in the Philadelphia news station viewing area were to get hit earlier with more snow than expected. At 10 AM West Chester Borough declared a snow emergency. I expected to hear from the tea room. I did not. Around 11 I placed a call to the event coordinator. I expressed my concerns. She was very nice but said that I needed to speak with the owner. I placed a call to her and received an immediate attitude. I explained my concerns for not only my party but her employees leaving there after 5. I was also concerned about parking. She told me the borough always calls a snow emergency. It was fine, park in the garage. I asked if we could reschedule. She was open to that but I was expected to pay for this party in full. I had signed a contract. I stated that I was not doing that. Weather was no fault of hers or mine. We need to work together. She was silent. I suggested we split her cost of food and preparation. She drop the food off at a shelter so that it did not go to waste. I would start over and reschedule my party with her. She would not hear of this. The shelter would not take her cooked food. She would forgive the room charge and gratuity. I was expected to pay full price (40) for each meal and come pick it up. Other option was to be there at 12:30. It was 11:40. No way to contact 22 people and have them there in 50 minutes when many live an hour away. I had asked on Friday if the time could be moved up. It could not as she had over 80 reservations. Clearly she had lots of cancelations. As it stands now she has my deposit. The Borough of West Chester posted that all garages were full around 1 PM. My party was scheduled for 2:30. What started out as a birthday disaster turned into such a great birthday and anniversary celebration. Our hotel had high tea which is why we came to the area. For some reason they cancelled our reservation and we thought our plans were ruined until we looked into high tea on yelp. We found Mimi's, even though it was almost an hour away, we called and they had room for us. That just made my day. The employees were awesome and welcoming. They were patient and very helpful. MY husband has a oeanut allergy so the accommodated the food for him. Two pages of teas to choose from. I now have a new favorite tea. Lady Londonderry. All the food and treats were homemade and delicious. The scones were to die for. Including the jelly and creams to put on them. Sandwiches were great and filling. They even brought me a birthday treat. They have a small area with items for sale. They have a great thing going here. Too bad we live 7 hours away. read more

Overall, we had a great experience. It was quite busy but the service was prompt. The almond sugar cookie tea was amazing. It was quite noisy as there were several larger parties. This place is enjoyable and such a fun experience for all ages! The place is decorated beautifully. The food was delicious and plentiful. By the end of the meal we were full and they offered to box up our desserts for us to take home. Our waitress was attentive and very pleasant. Also, you can have your teapot refilled and even change tea flavors as often as you'd like. Every tea we tried was delicious! Very cute shop for tea lovers or if you just want a fun experience. Each place setting was different, some beautiful China. Each tea pot was also different. We chose a few varieties. The service was fine. They had 3 flavors of scones this day, and everyone liked them. The tea sandwiches (4) were good and a nice variety. I was excited to go to tea with my girlfriend as I had gone through a very difficult last several months and needed support. It was a surprise to have additional 2 friends attend for added comfort. What was extremely sad was the large party who attended with crying screaming children and were not asked to take their child out to not ruin everyone's experience. I am not familiar with the laws around this for restaurants but it was a shame to put such a damper on the day. I left with such a migraine from the noise. We had our daughter's baby shower at Mimi's Tea Cottage and it was lovely! The atmosphere was perfect for a baby shower. We had Ginny as our coordinator, and her attention to detail was fabulous! The owner takes so much pride in her tea cottage, and the servers were very attentive to our guests. The food was very, very good. Portions were just right. The selection of tea was vast, and the pots were never empty. if anyone left hungry, of was there own fault! We were able to take home boxes for our guests who were unable to attend at the last minute. I highly recommend Mimi's Tea Cottage! read more

We were thrilled when we found Mimi's Tea Cottage and decided to celebrate our Mimi's birthday there. We had reservations for a Saturday afternoon. The place is quaint and adorable. We loved the floral decor and the cozy vibe. We had a table for 5 in the main room and all decided to order The Beaumont which came with a soup or quiche, 4 tea sandwiches, and 4 dainty desserts for each person plus a pot of tea. They had a large variety of tea including hot chocolate. Everything was delicious. They even put a candle in a mini cupcake for our mom, Mimi, who was celebrating her birthday. My only concern was a few of the sandwiches were skimpy and barely had any filling. Also, maybe because we were at a later seating, when we walked in there were dirty dishes everywhere. What a charming spot! I went with a friend and we made a reservation about a month and a half in advance because of how booked they were, but it was well worth the wait. We spent almost 2 hours here and couldn't have had a more perfect and enjoyable afternoon! There are so many tea options, I highly recommend getting the full afternoon tea or the Beaumont experience. The tea sandwiches, desserts and scones were all exceptional. I especially loved the blueberry scone and mini strawberry shortcake. The service was fine. The tea was good. But one of the tea sandwiches had ham in it and the ham was multi colored with a decent portion of it being grey. I showed to the person in charge and she assured me it was due to the ham being exposed to light. She did take $5.00 off the bill. I have no confidence in the food here. Everything I've read about grey ham says don't eat it! It was too late for my daughter she already ate hers and said it tasted funny so I looked at mine. The food was good-more than enough for tea-we even took some home. The banana bread sandwich was my fav. They accommodated my sister's nut allergy without a problem(we called a day ahead). I read the reviews which seemed either one extreme or the other. I decided to risk it since it was close by. The place was nicely decorated. China cups and teapot were nice except my cup had a crack. But, you can't eat atmosphere. The waitstaff was not well dressed and did not match the atmosphere. The food was definitely bland. The portion size was small. Even if I used fine dining pricing, which the food was far from in quality, the prices overshot by about $10 for the Beaumont. The soup was about one cup and served in a small bowl. The sandwiches are half or quarter sandwiches. The sandwiches were mostly bread and very little filling. The bread was dry. The tea selection was nice. The scones and desserts were good just bite sized. The "clotted cream" was whipped cream. The gf selection was $5 more but portion size was smaller than regular selection and limited. I was beyond excited to have a tea room back in West Chester and went to take a look at their cute little shop/cafe and make a reservation for my birthday. There was some nice merchandise and I was about to make a sizable purchase, but the hostesses at the front made me feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome that I quickly left the establishment. There are other more welcoming tea rooms in the area and I don't plan to spend my hard earned money anyplace, no matter how cute it is inside, that treats people this way. I suppose they didn't think I was making a purchase and was not worth their time.
