The Dumplings were fried perfectly and had great flavor and meat portions inside of them. My salmon was cooked perfectly but my Wife's piece we found out was burnt at the bottom so she wasn't able to enjoy the skin. Of course we found out after I already devoured mine or I would have sacrificed my skin for her. The wait staff was really nice and attentive and beat part of all the price was great for what we ate. Though it's a small above there is a larger room for groups in the back and plenty of two tops and seats at the bar to take advantage of their great Happy Hour! Appetizers run 4-6 dollars and rolls are often under 4. The special rolls that can be upwards of $15 come down to $8.75. Plus it goes til 7! So you can experience an app, a Special roll and a regulAr roll for under $20! What!? I did this recently and really enjoyed my expeirhce. I started with a standby seaweed salad for 3.75. Portions were huge and the flavor was great. Can't go wrong with a seaweed salad. Shumai cane out next - 5 pieces for 3.95. Not bad. The menu said crabmeat but it didn't taste like more than imitation. This was just okay. Not a ton of flavor and the sauce poured over was a bit salty. Would probably pass next time. The Laura roll though? Exquisite. It was beautiful to look at and delectable to eat. The lobster salad, avocado, tuna and salmon melded together nicely. There may have been some other fish too? I was annoyed at one point because we were waiting to order and felt crunched for time because HH was ending soon (it ends at 7pm), and it had been a while since anybody had checked in on us. I tried to wave down a lady and was then reprimanded by the waiter (politely, but still) for trying to talk to her because she was the manager. Um, okay. I feel like it wouldn't have been a big deal if I did end up flagging her down - she could've just told me that she doesn't take orders and that she would get the waiter for us. This place has pretty good sushi, but definitely not the best I've had. If you dine in for a business lunch, make sure to cut out a large chunk of your afternoon since the service is slow, even if the place is empty. We learned to call ahead and order takeout instead. Although, if you dine in, definitely take advantage of the free salad bar. The bento box lunch deal is awesome since you can get a variety of items for $12-15. I would NOT recommend the sesame chicken. The chicken pieces are coated in sesame seeds with very little sauce making it almost inedible. And if you get the dumplings, go with the fried version (the steamed ones are mushy, slippery, and watery). The only downside to the bento box is that you'll be hungry again in about an hour or two. The best rolls I've had are the Olivia, Arizona, and Asahi. For some reason, the wasabi is not spicy and I find myself having to put a ton on my food to even get a hint of heat. The miso soup is very standard. There's very little seaweed in it but I think that's typical. The tofu pieces absolutely melt in your mouth. I would say this place would be overpriced for dinner. We usually go for lunch so we take advantage of the deals ($8 special rolls between 11-3pm for carry out, 11-7pm for dining in. Comes with 8 pieces). I ordered a Hotspur roll -- one of Minatos newest additions that consisted of soft shell crab, eel, cucumber, avocado, and tempura -- that would have originally been 14 dollars. However; with the happy hour deal, my bill only came out to around 10 dollars (I also ordered miso soup for $1.95)! While the rolls at Minato are slightly smaller than rolls I typically have seen at other sushi restaurants, I still feel full and satisfied by the end of the meal. But this was completely uncalled for when a person is paying for the group. We are not cheap people. We eat out so many times a week and we tip appropriately. Visited this place on a Tuesday evening to take advantage of the happy hour which is from 3-7 pm (Mon-Fri). Its situated at a walking distance from the Mt. On arriving, we were greeted by our awesome server "Kashane" and we quickly grabbed a table by the large glass window onlooking the N.Charles Street. All our orders were from the "Happy Hour menu" namely "Salmon Dumplings" (deep fried) and "Pork Kimchi Dumplings" and "Salmon Duet Sushi". I loved the pork kimchi dumplings and the Thai sweet chilli sauce that came along with Salmon Dumplings. The salmon duet was simply amazing and I loved the way it was presented..the colors and the decoration complemented each other very well. We had a "Cosmopolitan" and an "Island Breeze" which were just ok I would say...just the usual. I have never had a bad experience at Minato. The happy hour deals have become a staple amongst my friends. The atmosphere is fun and light, great for a birthday dinner , a first date, or a reliable night out with friends every once in a while. When I go, I typically order at least the super bowl roll and a sweet potato tempura. My friends tend to get the spider roll, the tropical roll, and anything with mango and they are happy. If I am nitpicking, the only area Minato can improve in is their service. Some of the servers are not the most attentive. In general though, I would say this is a wonderful staple for someone who loves sushi. read more
