My family & I went here 2 days ago since Aloha came with a recommendation of having "the best Sushi in town[/Baltimore]," and our trusted source was right. The quality of the seafood, all of the components of the sushi (from the rice down to ever other ingredient) were top-tier and made masterfully (thank you, Chef !!). Krisha, host & waitress, was also very friendly and attentive. We really appreciated her patience with us and enjoyed having conversation with her as well !! The restaurant is also spacious, inviting; with just enough slick, as it also is a bar. We really enjoyed our experience & will definitely be coming back! First warning: There is an automatic 18% gratuity charge if you are dining in, no matter how large the party is. I will not be eating here again. The service was slow, the food was not great, and the overall atmosphere is just not very enjoyable. Let's start with the food, objectively the worst part. We started with the summer rolls, which were incredibly bland - even paired with the sauce they bring. I will note, they did give us complimentary miso soup because the food was taking a long time - but that was really salty and not good either. The only redemption for the bibimbap was that the taste of the bulgogi was good. That said, the bibimbap was disappointing - it had little flavor other than the bulgogi, and as you can see - the sunny-side-up egg was actually just completely fried, no runny yolk. The chicken katsu was absolutely disgusting. The sauce was not a katsu curry sauce at all, and the chicken was extremely dry and some pieces were really hard. Stay far away from this dish. The server was very kind and he honestly seemed a little stressed (it wasn't busy at all in there but the kitchen was taking a while). He's the reason I'm giving two stars - especially with the complimentary soup. Avoid this restaurant. Not worth it. read more

Under new management, Aloha has under went a sort of change in food and service. On a recent visit, I ordered the spicy salmon poke salad. Not so good. It came with an adequate amount of salmon, it also was drowned in a spicy mayo type sauce. It only contained 3 items. Rice, salmon and a small amount of seaweed salad. The description mentioned a few other items but they were not in the bowl. It also had what appeared to be pickles in it too. I was none too happy. At almost 19.00 I'm going to need a few more ingredients. Service... I'm unsure if it was the time but, service was very not good. We waited some time before the server approached our table. We were then told the kitchen closed at 1030. Aloha seems to close now at 11pm on a Saturday night. We figured no problem since we knew what we wanted. Wrong. Somehow only our entrees were heard. Neither of our apps made it. Of course by the time it was realized, kitchen was closed. Not sure about a follow up visit for food but, I'll continue to visit for their daily drink specials. Came to Charles street in hopes of going to XS for sushi. XS was closed! Sad face. The guy inside said they're temporarily closed as they're getting new management. I'm like well where is sushi then? I didn't struggle parallel park for nothing LOL The guy then suggested Aloha sushi which is just up the block. I ordered sweet potato rolls which were yummy. Friends had pot stickers and poke bowl which they liked. Server accidentally switched up the credit cards so another person paid for our food and we paid for his. Management keeps changing hands and the quality seems to dip as a result. The last time I was here, I ordered 2 rolls to go, requesting cream cheese be added to both. I was upcharged (expected) but when I got home, I realized only 1 roll was changed as requested. To be clear, in the past my request was honored without incident. Today I got my same order, 2 rolls, adding cream cheese to both. Before I left I checked my order and again only 1 roll was changed. I pointed it out to the person who took my order and the sushi chef fussed at the staff member who took my order. The chef absolutely made it seem like honoring the request was a huge hassle and I didn't like that at all. The staff member who took my order was really kind and let me know the menu would be changing to include less rolls to make things easier on the sushi chef. That's fine but the newer items didn't appeal to me too much. If the sushi chef is overwhelmed, he deserves support but pitching a fit bc I asked for something that has been done numerous times blew me. Unsure if I'll be back, which is a shame. read more

This review is for the NEWLY REOPENED under new owners, Aloha, with return of the awesome sushi chef, Raj! Pros: fresh sushi that's wonderfully prepared and plated. Delicious options for side dishes and cooked food as well, for when you want something other than raw sushi but really, that's what you should go there for. Clean, welcoming and decently spaced apart tables with sushi bar seating as well. Metered street parking is usually not used to find in that area if you don't mind a short walk. Con: Prices on a couple of raw fish items are a little higher that some competitors but the freshness and taste is worth it. Also, let's face it, you really do not want a restaurant to get cheap or skimp on freshness when you're eating raw fish so just go, enjoy, and tip well. Speaking of tipping, note that gratuity is included in the check but it's only 18% so if you're a decent human, add to this for your regular tip and don't be cheap towards hard working wait staff. read more

The main entree, the Japanese seafood ramen was disgusting. There was not flavor, the mussels were extremely chewy and not cooked all the way and I had to spit it out. I've been here so many times. The bimpinbop bowl is so good and it comes in a stone pot. (It stays warm). The sushi was very tasty and the rice was perfect. The first floor is a restaurant and the bottom part is a bar. I am only giving 2 stars because they charge 18% gratuity on checks and the service tonight was horrible. The server was not doing anything at all. We were the only people dining in the restaurant and she ignored us all night. She never checked on us. She forgot to bring us spicy sauce (we requested this). She was confused. My partner order sake and she brought the bottle to the table and said "I only have a full bottle" and my partner was like "okay, pour it in the cup" it was just weird. I didn't think it was acceptable that she made $10 off me tonight and never (literally never) checked on us. Even though we had some customization, our order was prepared correctly and packaged very neatly so that nothing spilled. All our sushi was together in one container, but they took the care to label the outside of the container for us so we knew what roll was what. This was greatly appreciated. Everything tasted really good. The only thing I didn't care for so much was the miso soup, but it wasn't bad. Just not good. I've left a review for this place before because I really enjoy the food of one of the chefs, Raj, but he can't manage the whole restaurant and it's sad that if you go on a night that he's not there the service is terrible. Grabbed take out from Aloha while in town with a frequent. I ordered my usual spicy salmon and branched out to a salmon skin roll as well. My friend also got a spicy tuna with Alaska rolls. I ordered through the yelp app and, though I didn't receive an alert text as promised, the food was ready when we arrived. The spicy salmon was good, appropriate mix of fish and sauce, though a bit expensive compared to standard pricing. The salmon skin roll was not exactly what I wanted but I cannot comment on how it compares to good skin rolls. The Alaska summer wraps were made salmon sashimi, avocado, lettuce and vermicelli in a rice paper wrap- interesting but fell apart when being eaten. We were given only one set of chop sticks and insufficient soy sauce. The ginger, however, was thick and tasty. All in all, a fine sushi place. Took my parents and son to visit a daughter living in Baltimore and wanted to find a sushi restaurant for dinner. Our daughter looked this up and though the weather was atrocious with the heavy rain, there was street parking nearby and I parked in a public parking lot a street behind that took credit card whereas my husband parked nearby on street that was after hours needed for meter. Tub awaited at top of stairs for wet umbrella, and the restaurant was more bar(ish). Probably explained the music with its dance-like beats. We had seven sushi rolls, poke bowl which were all excellent. They also gave the miso soup which was great. They unfortunately do not have gluten-free soy sauce, they do give ample wasabi and ginger. Our waiter was fine though he completely forgot to put in our son's bento box order, so after some time, our son asked about it. He was at least honest and said he forgot so had to wait for that meal to be made. Had to doggy bag most of his meal along with some sushi and poke bowl. So, apparently Aloha has some history. Word is it was hopping and happening. Then it changed hands and Covid changed everything and quality and popularity dropped. The good news is that new owners have come and they have brought back Rajesh, Aloha's past sushi master. The service is friendly and attentive again, and the high, high quality sushi Rajesh was famous for is back. I had a delicious assortment of rolls, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp tempura and a special Uni hand roll. It was all good, with 2 stand outs. The salmon was melts in your mouth delicious and the uni was fabulous. It was just a quick, late night stop for me, but this place deserves a try if you've never been there, and a second chance if you've only visited in the last year or so. read more

The food was just so, it wasn't really good and wasn't really bad. My bartender (a guy, can't remember his name) was kinda snarky. By the end of the night he was in a better mood. Atmosphere was ok, the music was okay. I was in the second part of the restaurant (downstairs in the basement). I had wings (with ranch on the side, because strangely enough they sell wings and don't offer blue cheese) and "steamed shrimp". They were kind of weird, steamed just a bit, with no old bay or any seasoning on them. This location has gone through some recent renovations upstairs and it's cute! I will say the service and the food was not that great. My mozzarella sticks came back frozen and the server seemed to be incapable of problem solving/addressing the concern. It took a long time for the server to check in on me and another guest (even though there was only one other party at the bar). The glassware that was provided - had a lipstick stain on it. When I mentioned the number of issues we experienced the manager was reluctant to even comp and appetizer or something. I just started working in the downtown Baltimore area and finding something for lunch can be difficult. We found a few gems on N. Charles street but this place is by far the best! I am allergic to raw shellfish and was super hesitant about trying this restaurant but a friends stumbled upon it one day during lunch and raved about it. I got the spicy crab roll and the shrimp tempura roll. Both were delicious!! I topped it off with the Korean ramens and added shrimp tempura as well. The spicy beef broth was so good! The noodles were cooked to perfection. I should've added more egg (personal preference) but it comes with two. l honestly didn't need the two sushi rolls and the ramen because the ramen itself was very filling. The owner and bar/sushi guy was so nice. Professional and had great conversation. Both are from Napal.
