When I opened it, it was the smallest rolls I've seen. Usually the rolls almost fill up the box, but this box had a lot of room still. The size of the tuna is about the size of those $3 tuna maki. I liked the tastes of the spicy california because the imitation crab was mixed with spicy before putting it in. Other places just make a regular california roll and add spicy sauce on top. The spicy tuna had no spicy sauce to be seen - it was just the non spicy version. The hot minato roll was also just regular tuna and not spicy tuna. The rice was overcooked and mushy. The miso soup was also small but was tasty. Overall, it was super disappointing. You can get a 3 item combo for $16.95 with bigger rolls elsewhere. read more

Giving this spot 3.5 stars I ordered bento box C which came with sashimi, dynamite roll, tempura and teriyaki chicken. It was average. Nothing wrong but not amazing. Definitely a good price and you'll get full. It's located along west Broadway so parking may be difficult right now because of construction but if you are walking around in the area and what a decent Japanese meal id suggest this spot! It's not bad. I'll come back to try their sushi rolls! read more

Minato is slightly tucked away on Broadway, its storefront feels like an old school corner store, branding faded, dimly lit interior, but is nonetheless a core part of the neighborhood within walking distance. I have to give props to the owners for their level of covid preparedness, they've imposed plastic barriers from floor to ceiling, restricting public access, and have left a mere take out access window for staff to pass on the customers orders when ready. I have never felt so safe in a restaurant in the past year! I was in the area picking up a drink order and decided that I could use some sushi in me (cause why not!) I opted for a dynamite roll, a beef teriyaki roll and two orders of chicken yakitori to make it a meal. The dynamite roll was my overall favorite, it had all the right ingredients and level of freshness for a non-sashimi eater like myself. I liked that it wasn't overly chunky or fluffed up with rice despite being a 'basic life roll. The beef teriyaki roll was also made fresh to order. The only downside was there was the lack of the 'taste of sushi' to the rolls, I felt the sushi rice could use a higher vinegar content. Currently lacks flavour, and gets boring after 2 or 3 pieces. I was most disappointed with the chicken yakitori, the skewers were definitely made far ahead of time, the exterior was extremely dry with a thin dehydrated layer starting to form. Other than the chicken not having marinated all the way through (again, the blandness!) this yakitori was smothered in THAT chicken teriyaki don sauce, which I'm sure is the wrong sauce to begin with. Warning that many of their items are deep fried so if you want something "healthy" this is likely not the place for you. I heard many good things about Minato when they were located on the adjacent corner. Therefore I came in with high expectations. Gladly I was satisfied because the staff was very friendly and the food was good. I only ordered a bento box which included the salmon and tuna sashimi, tempura, teriyaki beef over rice, and some fruit. I definitely would like to come back to try the other items on the menu. Chopped scallop comes are good too, and their hot mins to roll is a very tasty variant of the spicy tuna roll. The lava roll is great too. TERRIBLE! Ordered on skip. First made my order wrong. I got a California role with no avocado and then put so much avocado that when i picked it out there was the tinniest amount of crab left over. Rice was all soggy and i squished together. Also got the vegetable yaki soba spicy and i could see/taste the powdered spice and after eating a few bites i felt sick and ended up throwing up 20 minutes later. This place should shut down. Tight space, limited seating. Good for a quick lunch fix. Since this area is central to many work offices, lunch hours are typically quite busy. The rolls have a higher rice ratio, and less flavorful. Sashimi is generally a good cut. Prices are slightly steeper due to convenience. Overall, a fine place to satisfy your hunger. read more

Finally gluten sensitive sushi place that is affordable and has great staff! The lava roll is amazing and the wild caught salmon is tasty! I very rarely have had to wait more than 5 min for a seat. We've been going here for decades, but it's really slid downhill since their move across the street. Our last 3 visits and likely our last ever have been very disappointing. Service and food quality used to be great. The staff that have been there a long time remain friendly and great overall, but the kitchen is struggling for some reason. The last three visits have been for take out that was called in - the new space is tiny to dine comfortably. Told the orders would be ready in 15-20 all 3x. The first time it was an additional 40 minutes, the second which was at 330 in the afternoon with a dead restaurant took 30 minutes longer than we were told snd last night they gave our order to someone else. It's sad to see a great place deteriorate - especially when the ownership and management is the same as when it was good. read more

This place recently moved from across the street. The new eatery is smaller and the interior looks like they got their furnature from a hand-me-down. Food and service are still very good and fast. Previously it was a full sushi restaurant, but now its more of a sushi bar. Be prepared for long waits during weekday lunch and dinner. The sashimi and nigiri were excellent. read more

Ordered in tonight with skip the dishes. We had California roll, Dynamite roll, gyoza, & tuna sashimi. The tuna sashimi was served with a really old piece of cucumber as a garnish and a dried out slice of lemon. That kind of tuned me off. The sashimi tasted fine...but then it kind of looked slimy. I used to go here a lot and the rolls were so good because they were cut perfectly bite size. Tonight they were so huge I could not imagine any month fitting around them. The rolls were made sloppy and falling apart. Not sure if they got a new sushi chef but I am clearly going to have to find another place for great sushi. read more

Simple sushi made well. Priced well and friendly staff. They are busy busy! A lot of takeout orders happening every moment. So service is not completely there as staff are busy packing orders to go. The food is amazing!... the service is not. Got bento box B with a bowl of rice on the side. The server rolled her eyes at me when I showed up 1min before they open (the door was wide open, I hadn't realized they were not quite open yet). I was the only one in the restaurant, so I figured the service would be good... I was wrong. She tried to seat me beside the open door, when I asked to move (as it's Dec and cold) yet again I got an eye roll. Had to ask twice for a spoon for my soup (it never came), had to ask for my tempura sauce and it seemed to be a great inconvenience for her to go get it... even though it comes with the combo and was forgotten by her in the first place. I ordered mine with chicken, it arrived with beef. I asked for the chicken I ordered but was told the beef was better... they never corrected their mistake. The beef was good, just not a huge beef fan unless it's a steak. Some of the best sushi I have had, unfortunately not good enough to get over the terrible service. I will not be back. read more

Was excited to try as it's less then a block away from my boyfriend and I and saw that it's old location had great reviews. We ordered take out and showed up half an hour later when we were told it would be ready and we ended up waiting an extra 10-15 min longer for our food. The restaurant wasn't full maybe 4-5 tables. Once we got home, which was less then a minute away our hot food was cold, the rolls didn't have much to them, hair in our tempura, and a worm in our sashimi. I'm very wary when it comes to sushi places after previous experiences with food poisoning. However they had good reviews and were packed at lunch. I was not disappointed. I've had better sushi in Wyoming; the chicken teriyaki roll had no sauce, the dynamite roll had no avocado, and the sashimi tasted like it was a few hours past expiry.
