Our first escape room experience! We were two families, with 3 adults and 3 kids aged 9,9 and 7. We did the "School of Magic". The kids were able to help out quite a bit and got a kick out of it. You can communicate with them while you're in and I think they're constantly watching you. There were a couple of instances where they clarified some things for us even when we didn't ask for help and that was much appreciated. We were able to finish it successfully in time. No complaints! My newly minted 9 year old discovered MindTrix while we were visiting the mall and immediately HAD to do the School of Magic challenge. Even with the chaos of wrangling a 3 year old and my visiting mom, Mike (owner and our game master) was so patient, attentive, and kind. It was all our first time doing any kind of escape room, but compared to what I've seen at other places, I really love the setup here. Instead of being stuck in a single room that you have to find your way out of, it's a series of spaces with clues all over, so the elements of working together feel really collaborative, and the overall experience of the story is fun and engaging. I'd say it's definitely appropriate for all ages and the School of Magic game in particular gives all the vibes of a certain magic series without giving a certain hateful woman any more money! So much attention to detail and plenty of fun surprises along the way. 10/10 would recommend, especially as we move into rainy season and need more fun things to do indoors. read more

Our first escape room and it was very very fun. I was a little apprehensive that I wouldn't be able to add anything to solving the puzzles but I did figure out a few things and had a good time. My Son and wife took their 13 year old son and me and my wife and it was entertaining and very engaging. We did the Tesla's Doomsday Device. While visiting Oregon, decided to play an escape room there. Stumbled upon this one since the Tesla's Mystery seemed like a cool theme. We arrived at the mall and easily found the location. Bathrooms are accessible inside the mall but not inside their suite. Our game master was very easy to talk to and helped explain what we needed to know. As the company explains, rather than the intent to be 'escape' the room, the goal is the experience inside and the story that goes along with it. The puzzles in the Tesla room were very different from what I've seen before (played 15 rooms as of now). There were some puzzles that I thought were amazing while others made me go 'uhhh' that's no fun. The walls inside the rooms do not go up to the ceiling which broke the fourth wall and the immersive experience. The props and set design however does make up for that. Went in the room with two newcomers and we made it out barely with some hints to keep us going. read more

The theme of the room was awesome, ours kids had just finished binge watching a series of Wizard movies so this was a fun way to feel like the movies were real. We are from out of state and needed to kill some time today and came across this place online. We had an absolute blast at this escape room! The game master was just involved enough to create a character and a storyline that was fun and entertaining, but not too involved to the point where we thought the clues were just given to us. The game itself was very interactive and hands-on; without giving away details it definitely has an exciting ending. This was by far one of the cooler escape rooms I've been to. I've been to 4 total. We did the Tesla and with 4 people and just a couple of hints we were able to escape in less than an hour. Fantastic rooms! Our group did two different rooms (Tesla and Time Machine) and both groups had a ton of fun! Very immersive and enjoyable rooms. Really cute and sweet escape room! We had a lot of fun with our six and eight year olds, who are puzzle fanatics (this was their first escape room). The six year old enjoyed the scenes, and the eight year old was able to help out, which was really cool! I'd say this is a 3-4/10 in terms of difficulty - we were solving puzzles and wrangling kids and still got out in about 45 minutes. Knocking off a star because a few times, the game master had to intervene because puzzles weren't working the way there were supposed to (i.e., we had solved it and it didn't open a door.). For an escape room to be immersive, the puzzles have to work, and so it was a bummer for the illusion to be broken that way. Would still go back and try the other rooms, especially with kids, but probably a bit too easy for just grown-ups. read more

I checked out MindTrix tonight with a group of friends, and I had a blast. I'm not exactly an Escape Room expert, but this is the second time I've done one. Mike, the owner and operator, was an absolute blast. He and his wife have planned out each of the rooms, assembled them themselves, and handle the workload. He made it very clear that this wasn't some vindictive escape room, and that his number one goal was that we had fun. The rooms were complex, challenging, pretty rad, and overall very interesting. The pricing was great, and I was very pleased with how everything was done. I think this guy deserves a lot of credit (he's obviously done a lot of work), and he was pretty funny host. I called mindtrix to book my youth group to come. Mike was extremely nice and so pleasant and nice. He was accommodating for my group and I wasn't completely sure of my numbers. We had planned to do the Tesla room. No one in our party had done an escape room so we had no expectations and this game delivered! My kids had a blast and it was challenging but not so challenging that we could complete it and not fail. We had 8 minutes left and my kids felt accomplished. I will be bringing my other groups! My co-workers and I went here today as a fun team building activity, and we were not disappointed! None of the 5 of us had ever tried as escape room before, but after trying the Tesla I think we are all fans! After storing our personal belongings in lockers, we were given an introduction and some words of wisdom. The owner set the scene for us with an introduction (in character) to our room, then off we went. Since we were all new at this we got off to a bit of a slow start but then got the hang of it. It was fun at the end trying to frantically solve the last few puzzles before the clock wound down, and we made it with barely any time to spare. The room was super cute/authentic and I loved the way the puzzles challenged our thinking! Would highly recommend for team building, date night, or family adventures. You won't be disappointed and the owner (Mike) was so awesome. You could tell he was really invested in making sure we had a great time, and it was so appreciated! read more

This place is a hidden gem! No better way to kill a Friday night (after a nice dinner at Cheesecake Factory, of course) than getting together with some friends to play some escape rooms! Admittedly, I have walked by and totally overlooked this place in my last few visits at the mall. My Escape Room Enthusiasts and I were super excited to find out we finally have an escape room in the neighborhood (Not to mention what that also means, MORE escape rooms to conquer!). Our overall experience was great, we were greeted warmly by the owner at the beginning, who went over the rules and gave us a few pointers as to what we should expect in the escape room. Without giving away too information, I have to say I was very impressed by the details of the set up in the room itself and the sophistication of the mechanics. We found MindTrix using Yelp, and was a bit worry since we didn't see any reviews! Thankfully we went ahead with booking anyway using their easy to use online system. We came in on a Friday night at 8pm and check in was easy. There are plenty of lockers to use to lock up your belongings. Owner Mike gave us the rundown on how the game works, we had experienced players as well as first timers. The storyline for Time Machine is fairly straightforward, if you're into science and generally a nerd then this is the room for you! I'm excited for their Wizard room (to fulfill the HP fan in me). The Time Machine room is filled with tech stuff, more so than most other escape rooms in the Portland area. The location might be difficult to find if you've never been to Clackamas Town Center. It's located in the lower level near the now shutdown Sears used to be. The closest entry is probably thru Nordstrom's. I love supporting new small businesses, so be sure to check out this escape room! read more

We had a great time playing the newly opened "School of Magic" last night. The owner Mike was absolutely fantastic and you can tell how much efforts and time he put into building his escape rooms. We really enjoyed all the neat props and also the fact there was barely any combination locks - almost everything was automated! The puzzles weren't too difficult so this room is great for beginners as well as experienced players! I would definitely come back and check out the other two rooms at this location! read more

First time to this escape room went with a group of 8 for Tesla mystery we had a great time with the room only used 2 clues and almost beat the time on the high score. Came to do the Tesla room but was so impressed by it, we stayed to do the other room as well. I have done over 100 escape rooms and this has to be one of the best companies in the PDX area. The tech used in the room made the experience so much better. Also the owner was awesome and helpful. He took close to two hours of his own time, after we finished the rooms to answer a bunch of questions we had. My boyfriend and I were at the mall for my birthday when we came across this place. After asking the gentlemen at the front counter about it we decided to try it out. First off, the customer service was GREAT, the man that helped us was very friendly. The escape room was challenging but fun. They even let us keep going when we ran out of time and helped us get to the end over the intercom. Swing by this fine, fun, and family run establishment for an hour of fun at a great price! There were only two of us in our party and were paired with 6 others on the time machine escape room. It was immersive, challenging, and engaging even for 8 people but the puzzle could be done with half of that number if need be. FYI - I am an experienced escape roomer and have been from the most awesome to the worst escape rooms. If you have questions on escape rooms, send me a message. MindTrix - In a mall...first bad sign. 4 mature adults that are very respectful to property went with me (you will see why in a second I say this) Staff - 3. Fake friendly. Are more concerned about you destroying property than how much fun you have. After telling you to sit down and pay attention,they ruin it immediately with 10 minutes of endless DO NOTS. The guy giving the speech is putting you to sleep before you go in. His tone was that of "DON'T MESS UP OUR STUFF". This stuff being simple UV lights (Magic Wands) attached to sticks for the most part. One of us did accidentally drop a 'wand' to only here them yell over the intercom "Was that a wand?!". I am not kidding. It was the first time I had ever heard an escape room employee talk of a dropped item inside game play.....then after he was quizzing us on how it happened...blah..blah...blah. This guy thought he was a cop. I was ridiculous. And...he was telling us....PEOPLE OVER 45!!!!!!! Puzzles - 5, not the most difficult I've seen but a couple good ones Rooms scenery - 2, if you are an experienced escapee at some really great rooms (Like in LA and NY), you will be highly disappointed. This place looks like a couple people brought in furniture and garage sale items. Overall a 3. Weird guys working there take the score DOWN. Don't need my mother running the escape room. My suggestion to them is go to LA and see how the competition (well, there actually is none) runs things and the magnitude of the sets, effects, and props. read more

I have always loved a good escape room and MindTrix was just that! Mike did a fantastic job at explaining every thing we would need to know once we got inside. Everything inside of the room was of quality and organized just as it should be. Escape rooms can be hit or miss so don't take a gamble and try to find something else.
