This was the third time in a row that it sucked in plain English. The wonton soups were great, Nime chow was 100 percent flavorless, like gross.... the shrimp tempura roll and sweet potato rolls were ok, the Hawaiian roll and lobster passion roll were lousy and mushy! Okay sushi for your typical Chinese fare location Was in Rhode Island for a short spell, and had to fill up the car so looked for a place to grab a bite. This place was very close, so decided to give them a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outside is very generic and non-descript with only the sign outside indicating the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside was nice-ish, there was a try to renovate and they got the loook right but missed some of the areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The severs were bored but helpful. I ordered a tamago sushi warmed if possible, a sweet potato roll, and tuna sushi. Food was 20 bucks, which is a little high for the dishes ordered. Took my picks and dug in. The Tamago was served cold, rice was unseasoned, egg was sweet but needed complimentary flavors which this one lacked. The Tuna sushi was not fresh, but not too fishy in terms of smell. Tuna was standard grade and knife cut was a little ragged. Not bad but that close to the ocean I was hoping for a bit fresher fish. The sweet potato was cooked through, but the grease was a little old or the grease was not hot enough. Was a little soggy and had an off-taste. Given that their menu has all the standard Chinese fare items, lots of their to go orders were Chinese dishes, and the state of their sushi orders, this place is an upscaled version of your standard Chinese fare locations. That's not a bad thing, but it does mean that their focus isn't on their sushi and they don't do sushi well enough to be a good option. My tip would be to avoid the sushi here and stick with the Chinese staples. So long as you do that, you'll have a good experience. read more

Mindy's in Portsmouth is always a favorite - whether we are dining in or ordering take out we always love it here. The seasonal cocktail menu is so much fun to check out and always gives us an excuse to try something new. We still love our staples like the General Tso's Chicken and miso soup, but the sushi is consistently fresh with so many great varieties to choose from. A huge bonus for me is how many items can be made gluten free as it makes dining out feel easy and enjoyable. I am so glad we recently discovered Mindy's after seeing countless raves from friends and delish food photos on social media! The restaurant is unassuming inside and out, but seems to do a good deal of business both in person and carryout - we visited on a recent Saturday evening, and the dining area was full plus we saw five or six groups come and go with bags brimming with goodies! The menu is standard Chinese-American cuisine, with a few cheffy standouts. Mindy herself is cooking in the kitchen, so you know it's going to be good. I really loved my Eggplant Tofu Stirfry (literally still dreaming about it!) and it made the best leftovers to take for lunch the following day. I probably will ask for a lighter dosage of sauce next time, though. Major kudos to Mindy for making a slightly "off menu" item, though. It's touches like this that make shopping small and supporting local restaurants feel great every time. The Pupu Platter was massive and literally only $20! We could have made a meal on this alone, but being our first visit, we had to order more than just that. The Boneless Spareribs were a standout, and I also enjoyed the Chicken Wings, which were very flavorful and moist. We'll be back, especially for that Eggplant Tofu! read more

After hearing mixed reviews, we decided to try Mindy's for lunch today. The food was hot, so that was good. But the rest not so much. My hot and sour soup was neither hot, nor sour, it had absolutely no flavor, like watered down broth. The nime chow was also void of flavor, tasted like bland noodles. The sauce didn't do much do it either. This thing was absolutely massive. They must have xxl wrappers, as I have had nime chow everywhere and never seen it but half this thick. Probably didn't help the taste as it was all filled with bland noodles and nothing more. The best part was the crab Rangoons; however, even they had a bit of a doughy taste to them. We asked for a small container of duck sauce to dip, and were charged $3 for a full pint of sauce... a bit overkill for six tiny Rangoon... when a typical condiment size would have been more than enough... Based on so many people saying how inconsistent this place is, I would certainly never try their sushi, and most likely will not be back again for anything else. Prices have gone up but quality of food not as good. Service is lousy. The head waitress Kendra is rude and robotic like.

On this visit, we tried: vegetable spring rolls, apple cider margaritas, steak dinner bento box, Mongolian beef, and vegetable pad thai. Everything had a delicious flavor. The spring rolls were god, but we were not expecting them to be fried. Also note that the beef was served with lots and lots of onions, so beware! Our waitress, Alex, was great. Takeout order was missing an item; whatever, stuff happens. No apology, but amazingly, they don't refund either - they give store credit which you have to order in person to use - if they remember. When I asked for a refund, the "manager" was condescending, yelled at me, called me names, you name it. I've been going off and on for years, but the service was shockingly bad. I can't wait for them to go out of business and something else to fill in the space - and maybe finish putting siding on the building while they're at it. read more

A nice addition to a very limited dining scene in Portsmouth. Had done takeout a few times during those "dark days". Finally visited on a week night with friends. Decent crowd. Service quite good. Enormous menu. Started with round of cocktails - a number of winners. We split the noted "sushi pizza" (with salmon). You'll like it. The other couple ordered "plates" - Like General T;s. They liked and the huge portions resulted in 2 large "people bags. We stayed with the sushi and sashimi and they were winners. Do give them a try! I stopped in here for their first day to try it out. I, like many, will miss Reidys restaurant, but this is an AWESOME replacement! I decided to go with the normal battery I would get from my usual Chinese place to get a good comparison (crab Rangoon, general Tso, pork lo mein) but I also got sushi. I ordered sashimi samples of quite a few varieties to test how fresh their fish was. They knocked it out of the park. The scallop sashimi was so fresh and sweet, the general chicken I had requested extra crispy ( totally on point ) and the lo mein wasn't greasy at all - it had a kind of toasted quality to the noodles. Got takeout from here on a weekday. It was pretty busy inside as well as for takeout. I got the crab rangoons and the eggplant with spicy garlic sauce. I've been to Mindy's in person and have had take out multiple times. While the food is generally tasty, there's one recurring issue that's hard to overlook: They consistently forget the salad dressing in the take out orders. We have to drive back to get the dressing. Just an absolute waste of time. No apology's, no compensation for having to drive back to fix their mistake. read more

After driving around looking for a spot to eat we stumbled upon this place. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and freshness of the food I received. I ordered via delivery app from the restaurant, but this review only addresses the food. General Tso's Combo Meal - Chicken was good, although the sauce is a little more like an orange sweet and sour. Good portion with fried rice and crab rangoons, all of which arrived hot. I requested in the special instructions that the restaurant use only white meat chicken, and they made the adjustment. Lo Mein Combo Meal - Again, good portion, arrived hot. Nothing special here, but reliable quality. Nime Chow - My only complaint was with this item. Two very large fresh rolls, but both of them had the rice paper wrapper ripped upon arrival, so they immediately fell apart and lost the contents. Maybe less filling would prevent this. read more

I really want to like this place but it is a train wreck. Food is good. Probably one of the best Asian restaurants on the island but you will wait over an hour for the food to appear. The kitchen is not capable of handling the in-house and to go orders. It is a real shame. I have been here 5 times. It gets worse every time. I am always puzzled at how this happens. The kitchen staff and/or management have no clue on how to manage the volume of orders. You hear them arguing in the back. One waitress for the whole place and she bears the brunt of the issues with the customers who are like WTF? We canceled our main order after being there for almost two hours. Thankfully we ordered some sushi as an appetizer and it came out in a reasonable time. I would pass unless you have no issue with waiting for hours. Can't speak to take out as I have never done it. I had a dinner and drink there about two years ago. Both were fine; however, when the bill arrived, the prices were higher than what was on the menu. I pointed this out the waitress and showed her the menu. The owner joined the conversation and was very sharp and unpleasant with me. Evidently the prices have been raised, but they were still using the old menu. In Rhode Island you are not obligated to pay anything above thethe price on the menu. I will never go here again, first my wonton soup came out 15 mins later and after my meal was a no no in my book but they made my Naruto roll with only the skin of a cucumber which was very waxing that I choked on it. The salmon with cucumber was also just skin of the cucumber. read more

This restaurant has potential but we won't be back. When the food is good, it's AMAZING. Sadly, the wait staff can be extremely rude and the prices and portions change depending on the day. During a recent visit, we overheard the server tell a table that she forgot their appetizer order and she couldn't have cared less. When asked about it she simply responded by saying she didn't put it in, and walked away from them. She spent most of our meal loudly conversing with friends of hers at the bar. It wasn't busy but you really felt like you were a bother for simply being there. We wanted to love this place but management needs to reevaluate and work out the kinks. Having been here like 10-12 times now I feel I have enough experience to finally make a few comments. I want to really like this place because the food can be good here and it's close to me, however, there's no consistency to it. It can be great one night, then terrible the next. For a sushi place, that's the kiss of death. Here's the list of issues I've had with them in no particular order. -Bad salmon. Had grey streaks in it and it smelled way too fishy. Manager tried to tell me that it was fine. That pissed me off as I have been eating sushi in large metro areas for decades. I know what good salmon looks and smells like. -Hot and sour soup was rancid. Literally smelled like rotten meat. Nearly made me barf. Might have actually gotten food poisoning from this a day later as I did get very sick. I took one sip before realizing. Sent it back. -Hibachi special for two was absolutely inedible. Steak was supposed to be filet medium rare. It was not filet and was raw to well done and like shoe leather. We both had to spit it out as you could not even chew it. -They don't have the ginger sauce for the seafood and veggies like regular typical Japanese steak houses do. When I asked for it they didn't even know what I was talking about. Strange. -Shrimp in lettuce wraps smelled really bad. Had to throw that out without eating it. This was a take out. -Tuna sushi was tough and impossible to bite through. Could not eat them. This was take out. -Was given a bottle of soy sauce that was just about empty to use rather than the typical table top containers. Was covered with something gross and didn't want to use it. -Service is hit or miss. Many inexperienced wait staff. Seems like they are short handed most nights. -Manager is not friendly at all. Always a bad sign to me. Gives the place an off vibe when she's around. -Ordered pork fried rice, got veggie fried rice. This was take out. The Chinese food is more consistent I would say, but consistency is too random in general with too little emphasis on taste and quality of food and service. I hope they get it together, but I'm not holding my breath. read more

Where to start with this.... Do you know that one person in your family that says they make the best Chinese food at home, and they really don't? Yeah... That's this place. It's the equivalent of homemade Chinese. Is it edible? Yes. Is it impressive? No. My family got a decent variety, orange chicken, sesame chicken, pad Thai, crab Rangoon , egg rolls, and Singapore noodles. Both the orange chicken and sesame chicken tasted identical, except for the sesame seeds. The pad Thai had very little sauce and somehow managed to have no peanut flavor. The Singapore noodles were dry as well, however the flavor was on point. Both the crab Rangoon and egg rolls were your middle of the road quality. Honestly there's nothing here that stands out, however nothing that screams stay away either. read more
