Ordered takeout for the first time because we got the flyer in the mail and decided to try them out. Never again!!!!!! $70 for Beef Lomein with chewy thin steak strips and the sauce was not very good, pad tai- that was NOT pad tai I have had it many places and this was by far the worst! Crab Rangoon that isn't crunchy it is soft and the dough was so thick and stretchy. The beef teriyaki was horrifying and disgusting! First off it's thick round trips of steak (if u really want my opinion is the rape of a critter running rampid here in EP) on a stick and it's over peppered, but wait where the heck is the teriyaki? In a lil cup off to the side is the sauce, wtf? U have to dip it? Or are u suppose to coat the sticks urself? Worst part is there was a massive Vein running down the piece of steak and it freaked my fiancé out and he wouldn't eat anymore! wtf???? And what do u know, running to the bathroom not even 20 mins after eating. Fabulous! So if u have a colonoscopy coming up eat this a couple days before and it will prime u for ur clean out day! Food was good but the server kept yelling at her child (I assumed he was her son) who was sitting quietly and behaving perfectly in the dining area. We were the only people there for most of the visit, and it was extremely uncomfortable because tue child was crying and then she would turn around and be super nice to the customers after yelling at the child, who I'm sure was bored. I understand that small business owners may need to bring their children to work, but this was unprofessional and very disturbing to witness as a patron. My gf and I ordered sushi. I have a shellfish allergy and she does not. When we ordered we specifically asked for the sushi to be separated for a food allergy. The young man understood. Food gets delivered and both are together. I call the restaurant and a woman answers. I explain to her that I have a food allergy and made the young man aware. She proceeded to make every excuse, never once offering an apology. They did remake and resent, only after she made it clear we had to send back the sushi we already received. Not that I could eat it, but either way just seemed like a silly request, when you already didnt care enough to be concerned with my food allergy. Not to mention that the nim chow (vegetarian) that we ordered, ended up having added fruit to it without our knowledge as well a sugared syrup (not oil n peanuts it is supposed to be) alleged sauce. I've gotten take out from here couple of times. Food is mostly good, though not consistent. Delivery time usually is around 45 to 60 minutes or so. I've gotten the garlic chicken, beef with broccoli, curry style chicken and kung pao chicken. Even though its mentioned that the garlic and curry style chicken are spicy, it really isn't. Also have gotten the tom yum soup, wanton and hot and sour soup. Tom yum was pretty oily though the other two were pretty good. Also their valentine roll is pretty good. We rely on Yelp when we travel out of California to figure out what is good. Last night we ventured into this place not sure to expect, but open to trying the food anyways. We were told sit where we pleased which was a bit of a challenge with the setting sun on it's way down for the day, but that was soon resolved. Our drink orders were taken pretty quickly and came out pretty fast too. It took us a few minutes to figure out what we wanted because there was such a variety of food to select from. My husband ordered the Boston and Super California rolls, my mother had the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and I had my usual avocado rolls with the A.A.C. roll and some Mushroom Soup. It took a bit for the food to come out, but we were in no rush to go anywhere. The rolls were delicious and the Sweet and Sour chicken came out with the chicken separate from the sauce so you could dip the chicken in the sauce. My Mushroom Soup was hot and savory just the way it should be. The real stellar thing was the service because I accidentally spilled my husband's beer. The lady at the counter replaced the beer no questions asked! I am so grateful for her doing that. In the end I would highly recommend this little jewel if you happen to be passing through the area. They are right off the main road that takes you right by the businesses in the area. If you pull into Shaw's parking lot and look across the way you will see this place too. I went into Yama tonight for dinner with one other person. As I walked in I was surprised to see how modern and welcoming the decor was! The sign on the outside of the building leaves something to be desired. In fact - if I was going on just aesthetics, I would have overlooked Yama. My companion suggested this place and I am so glad she did! We were seated immediately and our table and surrounds were extremely clean. Our table was already set and the setting was neat and appropriate. Our server came over right away and offered a drink, I suppose they didn't have any verbal specials because none were offered. Throughout the entire meal our server didn't seem very interested in our table (and the restaurant was not busy). She was flat and gave short answers / very quick to leave the table. She seemed to personally know a patron that was sitting at the bar.. Meh - she was fine.. Now onto the DELICIOUS SUSHI! This was really why this place is getting a 4/5 rating. We ordered a few different things - California Roll, Shrimp Tempura roll, Sweet Potato Tempura roll and The Dancing Tuna Roll. All were fantastic - the favs were the Dancing Tuna and the Shrimp. We also ordered Miso Soup and it was perfect! It was really a top notch sushi experience. We did not order a dessert but I have to say that it was quite the impressive and tempting selection of very decadent desserts! Can't wait to give a few a try! The prices were great as well. The specialty rolls were moderately priced $10-$14 and came with 8 pieces. Most of the other "regular" type rolls were $5-$9 for a 6 piece. I've never been more excited to give 5 stars to a restaurant in all my years. Easily the best sushi I've had in Rhode Island. There are so many reasons why I'm giving them 5 stars: the service, the cleanliness, the decor, and of course the food! The prices are good for the quality of food you get. We ordered the valentine roll, spicy salmon roll, spicy seafood, and spicy scallop rolls. All were fantastic with just the right amount of heat. I probably wouldn't get both the spicy seafood and spicy scallop as they are very similar but highly recommend either. If you are looking for something new to drink try the Japanese Soda! I'm a sucker for anything lycée so that was my favorite kind. I also tried the Strawberry flavor and it was good, not overly sweet. I can't wait to go back! read more

I called in an order for my Aunt today. When she went to pick it up, they couldn't find it. I had to call and tell them what the order was. Upon returning, my Aunt told us she thought the place looked dirty. "Robert Irvine should come and fix that place up." The restaurant is brand new, it should sparkle. The first time I walked in, I was surprised that a restaurant with "hibachi" in its name doesn't have one. They have it on the menu, but they cook it in the kitchen and bring it to you on a plate! No show. I'm putting up a picture of today's take out bonanza. Thai basil chicken wings that were soggy with grease with an inch long feather sticking out of one. I guess it's not turtle, at least. There's beef and broccoli and shrimp fried rice which were both fine, although the others thought the beef had a bit too much wiggle, wiggle! Then there's the sesame chicken. Where to go with that... It's white meat chicken sliced paper thin and deep fried in batter. It's in a sweet and sour sauce that's nice, but they cook it 5 seconds shy of making jerky. I passed out steak knives to cut it and it was still a chore. It's consistently that way and it shouldn't, but it's the best tasting item I've had there. read more

Sure, five stars for a shopping plaza sushi joint may seem suspect, but hear me out... I've been coming here regularly for almost 3 years and in that time I've never left dissatisfied. As a disclaimer, I usually only get sushi/sashimi but the hot entrees from the kitchen that I have tried have all been great. The menu offers all the requisite American sushi favorites, prices are great and service is always friendly. That last one is important because I think sometimes customers confuse a language barrier as bad service. That is not the case; speak slower, repeat yourself, do whatever you have to do but honestly, these people just want you to be happy customers, promise. Now, here I am on a Friday night having had such a great time at Yamafuji that I felt it was important that I update my review immediately. Here's the run down: My husband suggested we come here for sushi but I insisted we go to "that other place" over yonder in Barrington. He relented, we show up at "that other place", get a table and wait....and wait....and wait. Patrons are complaining, the takeout line is 15 people deep and things went down hill real fast. So, we cut our losses, paid for the appetizer we managed to get and headed to Yamafuji a mere 4 miles away which turned out to be a saving grace. Smiling, friendly service; we were seated immediately, the sushi chef chatted us up and proceeded to prepare the most beautiful sushi display for us. Surprisingly, we were presented with a post-sushi snack of salmon stuffed tempura jalapenos, gratis and yet even more, to top off the meal they served us a frozen pineapple filled with refreshing sorbet again, gratis. I realize this sounds like I'm trying to fluff up my experience but I swear it's exactly how things went. I even joked with my husband before we even got the stuffed peppers or ice cream, that he must have called them and told them he had to prove me wrong since I originally didn't want to go here. So, I'm going to skip "that other place" from now on, and head straight to Yamafuji for my sushi fix and you should, too. read more

I hate having to slam a business, but Yama Fuji 2 is not worth your money or your time. I too am from California and I found the previous yelper's review down below a complete OPPOSITE from my experience. So buckle up and prepare for takeoff: We went into the building in the late afternoon and found there to be no one in there. We didn't think this was a bad sign as we were right in that pocket between lunch and dinner services. RED FLAG #1 We like to sit at the bar when we go out for sushi. This allows us to connect with our chef and find out what they like to make or what they recommend as we are usually game for just about anything. When we were directed to a booth and then asked to sit at the bar, the owner/host/waitress wasn't sure what to do. When we walked in deeper we found that the bar counter was a dumping ground for supplies, menus, and other items that hadn't been properly put away. UH OH. Needless to say the woman was quick to move stuff out of the way and we sat down. From there is only got worse. The place seemed to be getting a lot of phone orders as the woman went to be on the phone for at least 10 minutes taking orders. That wouldn't normally have been a problem except the chef was nowhere to be found (he must have been on break). RED FLAG #2 When the chef returned he instantly got into his backed up order of food and began preparing sushi. He didn't once look up to the couple sitting 2 feet in front of him. No acknowledgment whatsoever. I'm not looking for you to strike a conversation, but we weren't sitting there to study your craft sir. Another woman entered the establishment and she seemed to be the delivery driver for the place. She was actually the first to notice us and asked us if we needed water. We said that would be great and she took care of us. A solo patron entered and slipped into the booth. In between calls the owner, went over with water and a glass of wine without ordering so I assumed she was a regular. RED FLAG #3 After having waited about 20-25 minutes to order, I finally cleared up my throat to ask the chef what we would like which is the STANDARD PROCEDURE when you are at the bar. He kindly asked me to wait and after 5 more minutes had the owner come over to take our order. Keep in mind our order was 2 types of sushi and one cut roll. That's it. The driver also made a delivery and returned in between us getting our water. RED FLAG #4 You guessed it, the regular got their food first by a solid 10 minutes. To be fair, I don't know if she ordered a head because she knew how this place operated, but she was dining well before we got our 3 items. The food itself was not very distinguishing. The fish wasn't the freshest it could be and one of the selections had a hint of being frozen too long based on the texture. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever had, but it wasn't the best either. We finished our small meal quietly and quickly and then the craziest thing happened. RED FLAG #5 We looked up and I saw the most amazing thing. Something I have never seen in my life. All three of the staff were standing side by side glued to the their cell phones. It was so strange to see I thought maybe some world event had happened and when I nudged my girlfriend to stare at them we just looked on in curiousness. We waited over 10 minutes and not one of them looked up to even check in on their three customers in the building. We were giggling to ourselves that this couldn't possibly be happening. Finally, I asked for the check and we blew that popsicle stand and haven't been back there since. I was hesitant to write this review and thought I'd give it another chance, but I found a better sushi place in town and don't need to ever look back on this poor excuse of an operations. read more

I have eaten take out sushi 3 times already and expect I'll be a regular. I'm not a fan of their version of spicy tuna roll but everything else has been great. They have a terrific $11 lunch special, 3 rolls (15pcs). Basic type rolls but quite good. Their fancy options really are terrific and are around $12-$13. So it's about right for the area. I haven't tried any of the other dinner options. For those that are passing through, I have tried the place in Barrington as well as the Chinese place up the road that also offers sushi and this is the winner hands down. The interior is a little sparse since they just opened, but it is more put together each time I stop by. Last time the bar had beer and wine on display, so that's a plus. This is the diamond in the rough of Riverside. (Sorry China Gourmet, you've officially been trumped.) So far we've dined in and had delivery, and we've tried sushi and meals and have yet to be let down. Their sushi is fresh and presented nicely, their portions on the meals are huge and full of flavor, and the staff are all friendly. It's our goal to try everything on the menu since they have an extensive sushi and food menu that extends beyond the typical "Ameri-Japanese" restaurants in the area. (to name a few: Tako Su, king crab sandwich, duck scallion pancake, beef negimaki... etc etc) The only reason for the four stars is because I like my booze and they only serve wine and beer (and a few flavors of sake!). I would love a martini with my sushi. Also, their rolls come in a set of 6 instead of the set of 8 like many of the sushi places in the area. That beyond said, the quality is far superior. read more

Stopped by here for a healthy lunch. Ended up getting Miso Soup, Edamame, and a 3 Roll Combination (Spicy Tuna, Spicy Yellowtail, and Spicy Kani). The Miso Soup came out first and was pretty decent - finished it quickly. The Edamame took a while and came out warm and salted. Its a bit expensive at about 5$ but they give you a lot. Snacked on it throughout my lunch. The 3 roll combination was 18 pieces total and served with a little bit of pickled ginger (not food coloured) and some green wasabi. I was impressed with the amount of fish compared to rice, awesome! Service-wise, its OK but its not the best. The interior will remind you of chinese takeout. If you want the atmosphere, go to Ichigo Ichie. If you want more fish, come here. Total bill was just a bit over 18$ and I was full but not bloated. I would recommend this place for lunch for sure. Awesome Sushi, and generous hosts. That's Yamafuji for you. I tried their Thai Noodles with shrimp. Shrimp was well cooked and the dish was spicy, as it should be. Sushi appetizer had six samples of salmon, tuna, bass etc. and was fresh as well as tasty. I am a little apprehensive to raw or semi cooked fish because if it is not fresh then it may have a slight stink, which is a big turn off. But fortunately nothing of that sort happened. This restaurant recently opened in my neighborhood. After a crazy work day and a softball game, my fiancé and I were looking to grab a nice meal together. It is important to note that he is very picky. I suggested we try it, knowing that he does like hibachi chicken. Wow! We were so happy with our experience here and the meal. I've had sushi all over the world and I am a stickler for fish freshness. I enjoyed some of the best Yellowtail Sashimi that I have had anywhere, including Hawaii. My hibachi steak and shrimp was cooked to perfection and very tender. The fried rice was so light and not sticky at all. My fiancé... hasn't stopped talking about it yet. He wants our next family function dinner to be here and has already put the word out to my family. The sweet potato maki roll is something I've never had before but it was very good. Their side of fried rice is awesome for the price and you can tell it was made fresh, not thy old hard brown looking fried rice you get at a lot of Chinese take out. I would not order the beef teriyaki again though. The menu said it came with 2 dipping sauces.. It only came with one. And for the price, 9$ you'd expect more than 4 skewers.
