We went to Mingles Nightclub on Boston Road in The Bronx Saturday, October 15, 2016. Admission price for men is $30. It's a mature crowd, predominantly black (there 1 or 2 mixed couples) and the club was packed. The DJ's plays mostly caribbean music (reggae, dancehall, soca). We had a great time grinding up against our dates until they damn near busted out of their pants but we felt sorry for the single men. Leading up to the party, Errol was very professional and accommodating. He communicated very clearly and articulately. The party was a huge success!!!! I've been trying to get to this place to try the rasta pasta. Yesterday, I finally made and I must admit it was good with oxtails. However, the steam fish and the roasted corn that my husband order was terrible.The homemade fruit punch juice is awesome! It's a must try but that's about it. What I didn't like about the service was after I explained to them that the fish wasn't good, they didn't exchange it for the new plate that I order they just charged me for a new order. Went here last night for a friends birthday and I must say it was very dissatisfying. I had the jerk salmon and veggie dinner and a run punch. Firstly, the rum punch taste like nothing but sugar and it was very weak. There was nothing jerk about the salmon as it was not spicy at all but it was cooked okay. The dish over all seemed like it was missing something. Lastly, earlier in the night they had someone signing with a live band. It was cute but I felt like I was at an old folks concert. This is why it is so hard to support black owned/Caribbean businesses. Two people came for a drink and ended up having a meal. Soon as lights shut off we requested the bill bc we didn't come for night entertainment. Bill comes and there's 15% gratuity added for two people, a flippin $10/$5pp entertainment fee when we didn't come for that and was heading out, as well as a .04 cent rounding fee. When I inquire about the fee she picks up a flyer on the table that looks like a party flyer saying its here. NO, if we arrive before show time its the waitress/waiter job to let us know a show will be starting at X time and we will be charged a $5 fee per person. Don't add it on the bill w/o informing us. Soooo over Mingles, then the lady at the door low haircut have the nerve to look me up and down with attitude when I'm leavin....is wahh??!!! I don't know what those negative reviews were about but I love Mingles. Especially on Karaoke night (Thursdays-free adm. ) I believe on thursdays its actually 25+, so don't bother going if you're under 25 years old. Every other day its 21+. The crowd is a bit older, I would say by looking the men in there range from 35-60 and the women look 25-48. There is a full bar, the bartenders know how to mix, unlike other lame Bronx clubs. I recommend their famous rum punch if you want a serious bang for your buck." The security is VERY TIGHT, you cannot get in without identification and the dress code is strict as well so don't even bother going if you don't own a collar shirt and dress shoes (men) and no jeans. The woman by the coat check takes your phone number or email for promotions and discounts which is awesome. So some nights they send out texts and if you show the text at the door then the cover charge is split in half. Oh! The coat check is mandatory. The music is mainly reggae but they do play dancehall, hip hop&R/B and Pop. They always have well known Dj's and VideoJays. The bouncers do not play with people's safety, if there's even a suspicion of an argument they WILL throw you out. Some of the bartenders have attitudes I must admit but hey that's caribbean women for you but who cares. As long as they make the drink and smile I tip, If they are mean then simply don't tip, big deal right! It's pretty big in there. There are mirrors on the walls (for those who like to look at themself wvwry minute lol) and the bathrooms are nice as well. No smoking. I give Mingles 4stars because considering the Bronx isn't really an upscale place overall this night club by far exceeds the Bronx's expectations. Everybody who is anybody knows about Mingles. Saturday night Aug 31st. This used to be my friends and I go too spot for dancing and all around fun. I moved out of state a while back and returned for a reunion. Of course, the only place I wanted to go was Mingles. You know, all those wonderful memories :) First incident. The bouncers were professional at the door. Yay, it's only 12:30 am. We had our $20's ready. And then was told it was $25. My friend had to pull up the flyer for the party at Mingles that clearly states the entrance fee was $20 before 1am. Even with the flyer (and it was/is a general rule that the cover is always either $20 before 1am or Free before 1am), we were told that it IS $25... so we asked to speak to the promoter. Since the promoter wasn't there, the lady at the door said to just pay the $20. We did and went inside. We got our drinks and was trying to get into the dance mood. I don't know who the DJ was, but he wasn't very good at reading a room. The mixing was off and the flow from song to song was mediocre at its best. People still had fun. Now, it's 2:10am and time for some real music. Nope, No such luck. We were gonna wait and see if the music changed to something more current, but no luck. People had fun watching 2 male dancers in the middle. Which is always entertaining. But then... Second incident. All I saw was an outstretched arm pushing my friend to the side, we all turned around to see a man leaning against my friend to take pictures of whoever. We still waited patiently till he was done because we don't like drama. Then he changed his position. We already forgot about this individual as were went back to watching the males dancing. Then I was pushed up against by the same loser... a photographer called SUPREME SHOTS. I said, "dude say excuse me, we can't see you behind us. You the one that walked over. Don't be rude." He looked at me and continued to do his thing. We actually slid over to get away from. He finished taking the pics then he came over to me and said 'Sorry' in a rude ass way. I told him his 'sorry' was rude, and he was rude. He leaned in and said, "You talk too much, shut the fuck up"... I was pissed. I said, 'what the fuck you just said?' Then he leaned in to hold my upper arm and I was livid. I told him not to fucking touch me and my 2 female friends had to take his hand off me. I was pissed. Scary ass experience. I told the owner and the bouncer out front. There was 6 of us and we all left and went to CODE RED on Gunhill road. Which was amazing! We were told to go to Code Red before but, we were feeling nostalgic. Sigh. For me, I like to have fun when I go out and not worry about 'fights' or 'foolishness' or the 'passa passa'... but then again maybe in my late 30's I expect a higher standard from individuals and establishments I give my money to. This was place amazing , I spoke to Roxy over the phone to make a birthday reservations with a short notice of 3 days in advance. Upon arriving to the place you just need to have your state id. I went on a Saturday night which is supposed to be like an international night but they literally played like 1 Spanish song and everything else was soca, reggae, 80s music. It was so much fun though. Its definitely for an older crowd. I highly doubt there was anyone in attendance there under the age of 27. Its good to party here because you dont have to worry much about like fights breaking out with immature people. My girls and I took patron shots because they didn't have fireball. We decided to come here for dinner after checking out the place and their menu. They seem to have a strict dress code -- button down shirts, no sneakers. It was still pretty early for dinner so we just had to remove the hat. The place was dimly lit with luminescent tables which gave it a nice aura. Kind of romantic in a way. I wanted something strong so I opted for a rum punch, which had a nice kick to it. My company had a Hennessy martini which had ginger in it and that was pretty good too. For appetizers, we had barbecue mango wings which had that charcoal, grilled taste. They even had the grilled strips on them. Pretty yummy I must say. Dinner was simple: red snapper and jerked chicken. For a Caribbean restaurant, they didn't offer other authentic veggies, like callalloo. Also they serve escovich but its not on the menu. That part had me a little baffled. Oh well, other than that, it was an enjoyable experience. They have comedy night on Fridays and Saturday is a live band after 8. I was curious if they would've asked us to leave at that time since one of us had on sneakers but I'll never know since we left beforehand. When asked, our sever said probably not. I have to say this place is getting utterly ridiculous! I usually go to the venue for most of my friend's birthday celebrations and their lack of respect and lotalty is horrible to say tbe least. My most recent distasteful experience was recently when I went in with 9 friends to celebrate my birthday and spent quite a bit of money. We found out about the new policy put in place of having to pay $5.00 a person to watch the comedy show even after we were already in there hours before the show started. We also were told about the two hour seating limited after we were already there 3. 5 hours and spent a heap on money! How convenient is that?!. They started off by taking one of the round tables , which was fine because some of the party had left. Then they returned to take a stool. Ok, no problem as it was not needed. Then about 15 minutes later in the middle of the comedy show they returned for another table. Now at this point I begin to fume as there were tons of individuals sitting two at a table so why were we bothering anyone sitting four at two tables is beyond me! Next, here comes the so called professional manager ( what a joke) to ask me if there was an issue. I then go on to stare at her stating no is there? She then states she needs our table as there was a crowd waiting for tables and she needed our table after taking our $5 pp for the comedy show we were trying to watch in peace....such ghetto crap. Never would I have experienced such unprofessionalism in Manhattan. Trying to give the Bronx and our people a play and look! Smh. The cute lil manager needs to understand she doesn't just need to look the part, but she should take a class to learn to play the part!!! Why would we wait outside if we paying you $100 ? & its 32°. So they walked out, I stood there. He's screaming at me $20 $20. I'm like I heard you the first time. I'm obviously coming in. So I'm like if I'm paying you $20 to go to a ( not even high end environment, to listen to music ) the least you can do is be nice. He didn't like it very much and closed the door on me and demanded I pay him while the door is closed. So I paid him, just because I didnt want to violate this place ( I didn't get cute to go to jail ). I smiled. $3 mandatory coat check. Fine. 4 drinks later, $60. On Friday, February 13, 2015, my lady and I went to Mingles for dinner, arriving at 7:00 pm. We went through the pat down and metal detector at the door. Upon entering the double door, there was no obvious greeter at the door. A woman at the door appeared to motion or say to me that she would be right with us. She then turned around and started talking with two men near the door, who may have worked there. (Strike one) After a few minutes of being ignored, we approached the group she was talking to, who said we could sit anywhere. We sat ourselves at a table approximately fifteen feet from the bar, in full view of the five to six workers behind the bar. We waited approximately ten minutes and talked. Meanwhile no one approached us to offer drinks or food. (Strike two) The establishment was half to two-thirds full, so it was not like the staff were too busy to assist us. I got up, went to the bar and asked for for someone to take our order. (I was extremely hungry, otherwise I would have already left). A few minutes later, some painted up hoochie came to take our order. It was a simple order, rice and peas and oxtail for me (which I'm sure was pre-prepared and just needed to be ladled onto a dish) and "jerk salmon" for my girlfriend, which should take no more than ten minutes to prepare. We then waited some more. During that time some guy in a suit came by and welcomed us to Mingles. After realizing that almost forty minutes had passed; and no food was forthcoming; and the so-called waitress had not returned to check on us or advise as to the status of our food; we got up and left. (Strike three). I've had better service at diners and hot dog vendors. The level of service, or the lack thereof, was inexcusable. We had to seat ourselves, ask for service and I wouldn't have been surprised if they expected us to cook our own food! Never mind that the establishment was peopled with posers and overweight fashion disasters. I thought I could just sit down and have some Jamaican food in peace. This was my second time celebrating my birthday at Mingles and I decided I would get a table this time. I was worried that this might not be possible as it was the day before I wanted to go but the club manager ERROL assured me that I would be taken care of and sure enough I was. I can not express enough how happy I was with how the night turned out. My friends had a blast as it was their first time there and already asking to have our ladies night there. There was just one hiccup at the door with two of mt guests and ERROL made sure to rectify the issues before the end of the night and thay speaks volumes to me on the ttpe of estanlishment this is...and honest one!!! Our gorgeous server Heather was amazing and her and both Errol checked on our table throughout the night. I would highly recommend Mingles to anyone they never disappoint. Go for the Friday Night comedy shows. Have gone twice so far and the hosts are great and there are a variety of comedians. You will def have some good laughs. Plenty of parking. Inside is updated and atmosphere is for the mature crowd. You can have a full meal or just appetizers and of course drinks. The rum punch is no joke.
