I found this place on Yelp. I was dying to try their red velvet cake since everyone on here mentioned it so much...so I was going to pick one up, but you have to order it in advance. That cake is so popular, it's hard to get it right away! I ordered an 8" round for no special occasion and I called it in to have it picked up the next day. I tried it as soon as I got home. I didn't like all the special icing decorating or the ribbon around it and on top of it, it was for no special occasion, which I told them, but I should've been more specific and told them NO decorations at all! It was $25. Anyway, my verdict is....it's ALRIGHT. It's good, but not great! Definitely not the best cake I've ever had! If you want orgasmic cake, try burnt almond cake from Peter's Bakery in San Jose! But the red velvet...nothing too special about it for me. Maybe I'll try their guava cake next time because I'm a sucker for guava! And the cream cheese filling in the red velvet did NOT even taste like cream cheese AT ALL! I make a really good carrot cake with really good cream cheese frosting! Even that tastes better than the so-called cream cheese filling! Sorry, for you fans out there if I'm insulting, but I'm just giving my honest opinion. The red velvet didn't make me say WOW or anything! But then I let my bf try it and he said it was REEEAAAALLLLLLYYYYY good, so you be the judge! Don't take my word for it! Too bad they don't sell them by the slice! read more

I had a couple of cakes done by Minia and family. Very tasty, soft and moist!!! They have tons of pictures to choose from and their creativity is endless! I had my kids' cake and bridal shower done by them, and my guests and I were very happy with the results! read more

A beautiful and tasty cake by Minia. Reasonably priced too. The custrad cream was amazing!! the strawberry filling was on the lower side. The cream around the cake could have been on the lower side. But all in all it was beautifully presented and very tasty!! read more

This bakery was the vendor for our wedding venue. Although it wasn't my "dream" cake, it was still beautiful to photograph and I was very happy with what was delievered. I went as simple as possible: quilted on the top tier, plain middle, and rosettes on the bottom layer. I think the best way to design your cake with them is to look at the other cakes they have created, and mix and match from what they do best ... if that makes sense. I ordered a TMNT cake for my son's 1st birthday via email, and paid my deposit over the phone, and finally made an appearance in the store when I picked up the cake. Service wise, both sisters were pleasant to work with online, over the phone, and in person. The product was a hit with the guest. We had a layer of chocolate cake with custard and banana filling. The other layer had Ube cake with cream cheese filling. The cake was beautiful and tasty. The frosting was light and not too sweet. The cake was fluffy and moist. I'll order cakes from Minia's for future events and parties for sure. read more

before i go to place where im gonna buy something i read the reviews first, this bake shop is fo far the best i ever been too and we will definitly coming back. Their cake is simply, delicous, at reasonable price. I even recommend to my friends and relatives to go here. All my niece and nephews love the cupcake. You ask for a design, color and flavor your cake. Their location is easy to find and full of parking lot. The next event we are having is my parents wedding anniversay and definetly we are getting it to this store. You should try their mango, guava and ube fillings customs cake and its a must. I highly recommend! This cake shop is wonderful! We asked for a custom chocolate Spider-Man cake and they delivered! It was perfect and our child was very happy! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my second time ordering through Minia's and unfortunately due to my procrastinating ways I keep contacting them the week of my events instead of weeks before :(. THANKFULLY Minia's took my order the week of my event and provided me with a beautiful cake for my friend's baby shower. I contacted Jennifer the monday the week of my event (it was on saturday) to see if she could whip up a two tiered cake in purple and silver. The cake was for a baby shower but I wanted to skip all the frilly bottle, bear, and diaper decorations since my friend was also going to get proposed to that night (it was a surprise!! They've been together for 11 years!). I wanted the cake to look cute and elegant that way it could fit in with all the sparkle and glam that we set up at the venue (we used a lot of lights, paper laterns, and gems everywhere at the venue). Jennifer understood my ideas and recommended what she thought would be good then went to work. When I arrived on Saturday my cake wasn't finished yet but I only had to wait about 15 mins while they added some last minute details. I was able to drop the food I had already picked up at my friend's place and get back in time. Fast forward to the event- everyone LOVED LOVED LOVED the cake!!!!!! The bride/mom to be was so happy! She kept asking where we got the cake and how much trouble it was to customize it etc. It really fit right in with everything perfectly. Thank you Minia's!! Awesome job as always!!!!!!!!!!! The first cake I ordered from here was for my wedding. Now I won't go to anyone else. I have gotten cakes here for multiple occasions now and have even gotten my sister hooked on this place too. The cakes are a bit out of my budget but they are worth it since I only get them for special occasions. I like how the cakes are made with whipped cream and how the taste is just right. They are not overly sweet like other places. It's a family business and they also treat me and my sister nicely. Can't wait to get another cake. read more

I grew up in southern Cal (West Covina-818 days). During my yesteryears my mom and I would visit Tita Siony to special order birthday cakes. Siony was the talk of town when it came to cakes! Now that I live in northern Cali, I yearned for someone like Siony. Then I found Minia's deep in the crevices of Yelp. It all started with a few emails exchanged with Jennifer, sister #1. She didn't leave me hanging and responded promptly with cake prices and other misc. questions I had. So I put the destiny of my "Dora Disco Party Cake" in their hands. Caroline (sister #1a - hey they're both #1 to me!) did everything that I requested - above and beyond. I felt like she was reading my mind when it came to the design, it was so beautiful. They are so talented, very professional, but still very humble. They are so great to work with!! Best of all... everyone at my 2-yr-old niece's birthday party adored the cake - and they loved the way it tasted. It wasn't too dry or too moist, it was a bit spongy which everybody loved. I c an't wait to try their cupcakes too. My hubby and I got married last February and Minia's was our wedding cake vendor. They have done such an amazing job with our wedding cake. We decided on 3 tier cake with chiffon and strawberries, mocha and dulce de leche and red velvet. It was so light, delicious and turned out so beautiful with the flowers, ribbon and fountain. The two sisters, Carolyn and Jen were so nice and helpful during our cake tasting (took my mom and hubby along). They answered all of our questions and were so nice to us. My mom makes the best embutido in the planet and kept joking about trading embutido for their cupcakes cause they were so good. Lol. We highly recommend them. read more

This review is one year past due. I ordered a cake from Minia's last year for my son's birthday party. I ordered a half chocolate and half strawberry cake with Mickey Mouse design on top. The cake looked great! The flavorful of the cake was good. I was a little skeptical at first because when I showed up at the store, there was only one person there. I told her that I wanted a Mickey Mouse design on the cake for my son and she said okay. I didn't see any pictures, so I had no clue what my son's cake would look like. I think I paid $65 for 1/2 sheet. This is a pretty expensive cake. Even when the cake is so expensive, I would still go back for more cake. read more

A loooooong overdue review for such an amazing baker. Jen made us a fabulous birthday cake in a "Frozen" theme and with not a lot of notice made our wedding cake and cupcake tower. She was kind enough to wrap each cupcakes with the special outer trims that we purchased. Tasting was easy and Jennifer made the whole process a breeze. Prices are fair but I can't stress enough the great customer service she provided, especially in the contribution to make our wedding memorable. Thank you Jen and staff. Four cakes after my initial review, I am back to sing praises of Caroline and Jennifer, the sister-duo team behind Minia's Bake Shop. I do not believe these ladies know how to disappoint! Getting a delicious and fabulous custom cake from Minia's is not only simple; it is affordable, fun, and very satisfying. I've been doing themed parties for my kids just this past year (Cinderella, Despicable Me, Marvel Wolverine, Frozen) and Minia's cake stole the show each time. Whatever design ideas you have, Minia's will always take it to a whole new level and surprise you with their talent and artistry. My family and I are fans for life! P.S. Had a great experience doing cake tasting for our wedding here... we didn't end up using them for our wedding, but I have ordered a custom made birthday cake from them and they were super easy to communicate with via email and made exactly what I had in mind. WooHoo is right!!! The Sisters there were so much help from day one. Very professional, kind and experienced. This was my first time trying them out and I will not be going anywhere else after this experience. The cake was a hit as far as taste and I can't say enough for the way it looked. First off, Jennifer did such a beautiful job on our wedding cake this past August. I was running behind in finding a baker who would do our cake in such a short time but she managed to squeeze us in, between her vacation! Our cake came out absolutely stunning and not to mention her service was impeccable. I've gotten many cakes at this shop, most importantly my wedding cake. I love this shop. They are a little off the beaten path, but worth the search. My wedding cake was beautiful! My husband I had tried a couple of other wedding cake shop tastings before getting to this place and those places wanted to use fondant and we didn't like it and they insisted so our biggest thing was that Minia's doesn't use the stuff! Their custard cake has to be about the best I've every had. I loved the way they did the tastings. It was just a bunch of people milling around eating cupcakes and not a one-on-one, high pressure encounter like the other shops we had been to. I really appreciated how they accommodated my MOH. She has severe coconut allergies and they were not 100% sure that the icings didn't have coconut so they made her an un-frosted cupcake. That is good service! AND, I didn't remind them or anything, they just brought the cupcake to the reception place and I didn't have to worry about it. They were one of the best wedding vendors I had for my big day! read more

I got my daughter's first birthday cake and matching cupcakes from Minia's bake shop and couldn't have been more pleased. Jennifer was always prompt, courteous and helpful in her responses and delivered a cake that was exactly what I had asked for and yet somehow even cuter than I was expecting! The strawberry cream was also absolutely delicious and the rich chocolate cupcakes complimented the vanilla cake. My Bridal Shower was 2 weeks ago and I hadn't really planned to have a cake. After spending a short time on Yelp, my sister and I decided to make a pit stop on the way home from work that Wednesday. We arrived just before closing and did not feel rushed at all by the Owner. She took her time to show us pictures, gave us recommendations and offered to use fresh flowers. History

Established in 1989.

Our business was established in the 1980s. Our mother, Minia Ayala started the business out of her home. She was known as the cake lady with the yellow house. Everyone came and picked up from our house. The cake business came about as a hobby. She made cakes for family and friends. Then our family and friends started bringing her cakes to work. Her cakes became a word of mouth must have for special occasions. In 1989 she opened a shop close to our home where she ventured out into filipino fast food and catering along with her delicious cakes. It was completely family owned and operated as all my grandmas and grandpa were the ones who cooked. It was fun growing up always being surrounded with the gourmet filipino foods and also learning about making cakes. Eventually the landlord for the shopping center decided to sell the land. At that point, our mom decided to retire. My sister and I finished college and decided to take over the family business at this location..going on 14 years!!

Meet the Manager: Jennifer B.

My name is Jennifer Ayala Bermillo. My sister Caroline and I are the owners and managers of our shop. We both grew up and learned about the cake business through our mom, Minia Ayala. She opened her shop when I was in 6th grade and my sister was in 3rd grade. Throughout our younger years, we watched and grew up learning the family recipe and how our mom made cakes. Many times we have been asked if we attended culinary school, but we actually finished business at Cal State Hayward. I finished accounting and my sister finished marketing. Even though we did not formally attend culinary school, we use our degrees in running our business. Our techniques and designs are purely out of practice and knowledge that we gained from watching our mom at her shop. We are truly blessed to be in the business that we are in and strive to make our client's happy with the cakes that we provide.

Being a big supporter of small businesses, I ordered 4. All I can say is I'm super happy I don't live closer. The chicken bacon hand pie was delicious. Big pieces of chicken in a flavorful creamy sauce. There may have been some vegetables in it but I was driving and it was unsafe to inspect my pie closely. The caramel apple hand pie was good. Because I'm not an apple pie fan I appreciated that the apples were sliced thinly, not chunky, and I loved the addition of the sanding sugar on top. I ordered the apricot frangipane (AF) for two reasons: it was double-crusted and it didn't have whipped cream on top. I wasn't totally on board with frangipane since my experience with it in boxed chocolates was "meh." Plus they seem to love it on the Great British Bake-Off and it always looks so unappealing. But paired with the tartness of the apricots and a crust that reminded me of shortbread, I think the AF was my favorite, though I haven't tried the blueberry lemon yet. If you love pie, go to Pie Dreams and have a slice or three (no judgment here). If you're not sure or don't think you like pie, go to Pie Dreams. You may surprise yourself.

I choose one of monthly specials coconut pudding, and mainstay french silk. I also ordered the cheese burger hand pie for my husband, which he loved! The coconut pudding pie was sooo good, loved the texture and flavor, they had toasted coconut on the side to add on top. The fresh silk pie was my favorite! It was not overly chocolatey and had a nice mousse texture, there was an under layer of crisp ganache that made all the flavors and textures pop! The crust is nice and buttery and flakey. These were not heavy pies, just creamy light melt in your mouth. They also have frozen pies so you can take and bake yourself. This definitely satisfied my sweet tooth, and will be back this time to order a whole pie!

The blueberry matcha had this nice rich blueberry jam mixed in with cream that actually has a good matcha taste. The mango one was really fresh--this one was my favorite. Although they aren't cheap at about $6.25 per one, they were definitely delicious. It seems like a family run business that puts a lot of care into their products though. I'll be returning but maybe more as a nice treat rather than a regular go-to.

We grabbed an assortment of flavors, an iced oat latte, and a black sesame latte. The banana creme brulee malasada looked so good that we had to try it in the store while waiting for our drinks. The dough is so soft and pillowy with a crispy layer of bruleed sugar and a delicious banana cream that was absolutely to die for. At $6.50, it's not a cheap treat, but it was super delicious and I'm glad we tried it. The drinks were also great. The espresso shot they pulled perfectly complemented the oat milk -- this is one of the better iced oat lattes I've had. We tried the black sesame latte because it sounded interesting and it was so creamy and loaded with black sesame flavor. For anyone that doesn't drink caffeine, I highly recommend you try the black sesame latte. With such great quality malasadas and drinks, it's no wonder there was a line! We'll definitely be back!

Mandarin isn't our native language but between my dad and I, we understood most of the things she said.

Did the medium sized cups shrink? The lady probably used the wrong cup size, but I'm having a good morning, so not sweating about it. However, I can easily buy beautiful and delicious slices of cakes for around or under $5 each. No lines and no crowds after 10am on a Thursday morning. Staff was helpful at front counter. The place is still much better than other retail spaces. It's a good feeling inside. I'm glad I was able to make another quick stop here. This 85 Degrees C Bakery is definitely the better place.

The matcha wasn't strong but the sea salt one had more tea flavor which I liked since it's less sweet. The barista was kind to show me all the limited edition magnets to pick from. They're all so cute, but I had to choose one per two drinks. Definitely worth coming back to this original location even though it's a bit of a drive.

Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. I must say, their pastries are simply heavenly - the perfect balance of flavors and textures. But what made my visit truly exceptional was the outstanding service provided by Jennifer. Her warm and friendly demeanor made me feel like a valued customer, and she was incredibly helpful in recommending the best treats to try. Minia's Bake shop is one of the best places to get some great cakes. Its nothing like your neighborhood goldilocks "Yuck". Their cakes are light and fluffy as air and they sure taste great. They just reopened after being shut down for some years, and they do offer some retail cup cakes and pastries,but cakes are made to order. There's nothing like a fresh strawberry and chiffon cake. or My favorite the chocolate cake with chocolate and bananna custard and fresh banannas =].........Yum........Don't take my word for it try it out and I bet u'll love 'em too. Cake was dry. Service rep was not nice nor accomodating. They were not reachable via phone to order at all, nor did they bother to return voicemails. They took a long time to respond via email to confirm my order and didn't provide much of any details. At the end, I didn't get exactly what I ordered and they got the order wrong, despite siting a cake on the website. I was not happy with the cake and their prices were silly for what they provided. I'm too nice of a guy, and ended up buying the cake anyways, whereas I could've just walked out and bought a better cake elsewhere on the spot. read more

My first time getting a cake here for my daughter and it was great! We had a jake and the Neverland pirate theme and ube flavor cake! The cake looked and tasted great! This bake shop has excellent customer service! Jennifer was incredibly welcoming and gave us four sample cupcakes to welcome us to the neighborhood. The cupcakes were moist and flavorful, topped with a light whipped cream frosting. I knew ahead of time that they use whipped cream, though I personally prefer buttercream. It's sad to see so many small businesses close down due to our politicians's lack of ability to put people before politics. I reached out to Khushboo after seeing her post on Facebook on Tuesday, November 17th, via messenger and she responded very quickly. The item that caught my attention were her cute hot chocolate bombs so I asked to pick some up from her on Thursday, November 19th, in time for my nieces to spend the weekend with us. My 4-year old daughter loves all things chocolate and I don't mind enjoying a cup of hot chocolate every now and then so I decided to order a 4-pack for us to try. I got the "unicorn" for my daughter since she really likes unicorn. Sadly, my daughter prefers milk chocolate over white chocolate so I ended up having to help her finish it. It was a little too much milk for my liking, but I liked the fact that it wasn't overly sweet. I got the "Tea Me Up" for myself since I do enjoy a nice cup of chai latte & it was perfect for the cold weather. Although, I must warn you that it is a little bit spicy. I got the "Chocolala" for my 11-year old niece because she likes all her food/drink to be as plain and simple as possible and this fit her taste perfectly. I got the "Guess Who's Salty" for my 15-year old niece because she loves salted caramel flavor desserts. Sadly, I received a text from her dad that she ended up in the ER for juvenile diabetes type 1--so, she never got to try it & I decided to give it to my 11-year old niece instead. The chocolate bombs are super cute and such a fun idea. They would definitely make a great stocking stuffer. Although, they're a little pricey for everyday consumption so I wouldn't recommend drinking one daily. I asked to have tiny vegan marshmallows added for $0.50/each. Very nice touch! The mom-to-be likes chantilly cake, so I was searching all over for someone who could do chantilly cupcakes for us. Nelita offered to customize one of their flavors in order to make the cream cheese taste similar to chantilly cream. (Another cupcake vendor I contacted simply replied, "No we don't do chantilly cupcakes, good luck." THE END.) I ended up ordering that flavor and also the Chocolate Lover's in regular and gluten-free. At the event, I tried the gluten-free because the guests said it was the BEST gluten-free cupcake/cake they've ever had. And it was true, blew my expectations away considering my previous limited experience with gluten-free desserts. I didn't even get to try the other flavors because they were ALL GONE! But everyone I talked to said the cupcakes were delicious. The prices are very reasonable, including the delivery fee if you're in the proximity. I first contacted Nicolen over a month prior to my good friends baby shower. The cake I ordered was the center of the dessert table and I was excited when I found the perfect Starwars cake. Nicolen agreed she could make the cake. To make it easier I said just characters heads and to make it blue instead of pink since it was for a boy. Lastly, I paid extra for the R2D2 head. I knew something was wrong when I had to to touch-base and remind her about the cake. Nicolen reassured me that the cake would be ready and asked if she could drop it off early the day of the party. My friend who was pregnant at the time was up early to receive the cake which never came that morning. Because the party had already started I got nervous about the cake. Nicolen's lack of communication and delay of the cake was not that way I pictured her customer service to be. The cake arrived late and delivered by her sister who would not even look at me. When the cake arrived I couldn't believe it! I paid over $100 for this? The cake came lope sided and about to fall over. The characters I requested to be made out of fondant were PRINTED! YES PRINTED out of white computer paper and placed on the cake!!! Nicolen later texted me she was busy with Mother's Day orders. If you were busy please be transparent to your customers. I could of easily cancelled and took my business else where. This was my friends FIRST baby shower and I wanted a beautiful cake. I was embarrassed because I was bragging about how amazing this cake was going to be.. instead what was delivered was the joke of a life time! After the party, I have tried to reach out to Nicolen by text, email and even Instagram to try to understand what happened. Nicolen has ignored everyone of my messages and has never responded to me. Ashwini was so quick to respond via WhatsApp and throughout the whole process, she was very professional, prompt and so helpful. She made the whole ordering process so simple and a breeze. The end product was a beautiful cake that was much better than I imagined! It was a chocolate cake with vanilla icing and I was so happy she was able to use buttercream as opposed to fondant. So many bakers I had reached out to in the past with a similar type of request had told me this was not going to look the same as my request picture but Ashwini had NO issues at all which shows how skilled of a baker she is. Upon pickup, she also provided a pickup general guide which mentioned all of the objects on the cake were edible and which had a cast to avoid! Her attention to detail to mold each piece and even note it for me the customer, was incredible! It seems harder and harder to get a good birthday cake for our daughter. After going to numerous parties and trying a variety of cakes, grocery store cakes were out of the question. So, last year we went to a local baker and they did a good job on our cake but, it was still too sweat and a bit underwhelming. This year, for my daughters 2nd birthday, we wanted to find an independent baker who could create a cake that matched the theme of our daughters party and that was creative and different. Many bakeries just have a list of cake designs that they do and I feel they often lack originality and can come off almost manufactured. Here comes Insatiable Desserts. We wanted a bit of a wow factor and we were able to show her some pictures of cakes we found online that we liked that matched out theme. She provided some suggestions on the outside design of the cake and the inside of the cake. The overall cake came out better than we had thought and our guests couldn't stop talking about. Now onto the taste. One of my biggest complaints with standard cakes is how sweat the frosting is and how the cake portion lacks flavor. Our cake was moist and wasn't over sweat and had lots of flavor. The frosting was a delicious buttercream and she managed to create a fondant (That my husband and I normally hate due to bad taste) that was absolutely delicious. It was really really good. She also created some Mickey Mouse shaped cookies for us in the these of Mickey, Minnie and Donald. They were shortbread cooking decorating in a delicious frosting and there was a hint of lemon in some and orange in other. We had people grabbing extras to take home.
