Located in Montclair, this small breakfast and lunch spot is a local favorite. The service was really good, they were very attentive to our large group and my toddler. They had some books for him. I had the huevas rancheros, which is only available Fri-Sun. It had 2 eggs that came on 2 fried tortillas and a side of potatoes and avocado slices. It was delicious, very flavourful and satisfying. The sourness of the seasoning went really well with the plain bean and tortilla taste and complimented the eggs well. Everyone at the table was satisfied with their meal. This was my third visit to Minia's and wow, just wow... blew me away yet again! My friend grabbed a seat outside on a Saturday morning for brunch, it was the perfect day for it too. You have to try the Dominican drink called morir sonando. It's made with orange juice, milk, cane sugar, and chopped ice. You can order it with OJ or fresh passion fruit juice; either or is good. I also tried the Caribbean style oatmeal with caramelized bananas on top. SOOOOOOO good. And a vegetable quesadilla with fries. My friend ordered mangu con los tres golpes (mashed plantains, fried cheese, fried salami, and & sauteed onions) and a loaded chitvito uruguayo sandwich (steak, ham, bacon, mozzarella, egg , lettuce, tomato & mayo on an onions roll). It's a little restaurant. I didn't see much of a variety of authentic dishes, mainly American dishes. The menu seemed limited too compared to the website. Our food came in smaller plates. It was piled on top of each other which made it difficult to move food around. I used the butter bowl to set the bread just so I can eat what was on the bottom. Service was okay. I cannot commend Minia's enough. Slightly off of Montclair's beaten path, you'll find this excellent eatery. It is not large, but it has delicious food and exceptional service. My coffee, which was VERY GOOD, was served in such a cool and colorful cup. I enjoyed every drop and is highly recommended. My Avocado Toast was one of the best I've ever had. The over easy eggs had the perfect ozziness, the side salad was incredible, and I appreciated how my silverware was sharp enough to cut all the way through the bread, in order for it not to jump out of the impressively shaped dish. The Chicken Bowl entree was just as good as the Avocado Toast. Every ingredient was fresh and a to-go container was required. Some colleagues and I visited this restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon. The staff were able to accommodate our party of six right away, which we greatly appreciated. Service was a little slow (water was brought out about ten minutes after we sat down, and it was a little bit before someone took our orders). Most of the orders came at the same time! I ordered the Minia's Burger, which tasted great. I asked for light mayo and ketchup, which they were able to accommodate. Popped in again today. Grabbed an iced cofffe and a breakfast wrap. The coffee itself I have to say is not great. I'm not sure if they burnt it or that's how it usually is. I would have enjoyed the wrap if they didn't load it with rosemary which they do not list on menu ingredients. I get not putting salt or pepper but if something has rosemary in it you have to list it. It's a very strong taste that I do not like. That's the reason for the lower rating. They did have a dog bowl out front with ice and water for people walking by which is very cool and the reason score wasn't lower. That plus the staff is always nice. read more

Cozy little downtown spot with maybe 10 tables. Very friendly when I walked in and told me to grab a table. Ordered the pancakes, which came with turkey bacon and eggs. I didn't really want eggs at the time so they substituted for Avocado. Thought that was nice. Wasn't too crazy about the Turkey Bacon. I like it cooked a little bit more, but the portion size was good. Pancakes were flavorful and fluffy. Powdered sugar not my thing, but I get it and it's a nice touch. Not a fan of syrup packets, but seems to be more and more popular. The latte was solid and I recommend it! Overall, I'd certainly go back and have already ordered take out since this visit. I've been here a few times to eat and I'm always pleased with my experience. I recently dined inside in the new dining area with my husband. There are also a few tables outside that are nice to sit at. We both ordered the Bistec a lo pobre and it really hit the spot! The dish was full of flavor without being overly salty. We got the parillada for two, which came with grilled beef chicken and sausage over fries. Just delish. Also the salad that came was pretty good. A+. I used to live in Montclair. I now live in Los Angeles, but visited for the summer. I came here Sunday with my kiddos and returned Tuesday with my Aunties who live here. The music is lovely. The ambiance is comforting. And most importantly the food is delicious. Everyone was pleased. Even my picky Auntie. As we left they spoke of who they'd bring back here. It's the details. This spot gets it. I had French toast, turkey sausage and fresh berries with a matcha latte...both times. I have to go try other things. But it was so good I just had to order it again. My (super picky eater) son ordered the same burrito....twice. And sung it's praises. My aunts had French omelets. My aunt was even blown away by the side salad served with the omelet. And I tasted the potatoes served with the others omelet and they were perfection. The service is top tier. They refill your water. They're attentive and kind. Rosa helped us both times. She was patient with my (little)peoples who couldn't make up their minds. I'm grateful for places like this. Eating out is a luxury and it's wonderful when the restaurant gets it. An incredible café with owners and staffs who clearly take a lot of pride in their work! I highly recommend this place. It is a hidden gem. Everything we ordered, particularly my hot chai latte with oat milk was amazing! Our waitress checked in on us a few times without overdoing it. We were offered with either reg syrup or maple syrup opts and a side of butter. This pancake is complete w. eggs, & bacons bc it's a "platter" so it's perfect if you have a big appetite. The blueberries were an additional $2 but it was worth it!!! Omelet- stuffed with spinach and mushrooms with wheat toasts and home fries. Our waistress asked if I wanted ketchup or homemade chipotle sauce... ummm DEFINITELY homemade sauces please! :) we appreciate all things homemade! My husband thought they could even sell the sauce by the bottle too, yes it was that yummy. The omelet was neatly plated. Since I am a pescatarian, I opted out on the meat protein and substitute with avocado. They didn't charge me extra, which is very generous of the cafe. Any additional toppings would be $1 each. Home fries was a little undercooked in my opinion to soften up the cubed potatoes, otherwise everything else was perfect and delicious. Hot chai latte- they offer reg milk, almond milk, or oat milk opts. Besides the cup being on the smaller end, this cup of chai is ABSOLUTELY the best cup of chai latte I've ever had!! Delicious foam and the perfect amount of sweetness. I highly recommend it!!! This is going to be one of our new places for recommendations to friends and family. We tried something new for a link up and I'm so happy we did. This is the cutest little spot with a great menu and DELICIOUS food. Not much for vegans but they seem accommodating. The service was some of the best I've had in a very long time. They offered great suggestions. I'm not a coffee person, but she convinced me to try one and it was sooo good. The atmosphere is so comfortable that we just sat there until they closed. I cannot wait to return to NJ and grab a drink and meal here. The place is also clean. It warmed my heart because I'm suspicious of everybody. My only complaint is that I wish the food was hotter when I got it, and that the syrup was warm, but that's small potatoes in comparison to the yumminess and the freshness of the berries. This was a very complete brunch plate! It was loaded with everything that I needed to satiate a solid breakfast/lunch appetite. I got the Chivito al Plato, which consisted of lettuce, sirloin steak, ham, mozzarella, bacon, egg over easy, potato salad, and fries. This was super hearty and the mozzarella cheese just made the dish 3x better. The egg was delicious, with the yolk cracked over the steak, it made the steak both creamy and juicy at the same time. The steak was very tender and could have just been bitten off cleanly. The bacon was crispy, and the potato salad was absolutely delicious. I wanted to jump and dive into a pool with only the potato salad. The ham seemed very similar to the extra lean ham from Costco, which is still to this day, my favorite deli ham. I also got the guava and cheese empanada and this blew me away. The guava jam was nice and runny and sweet, yet tart in all the right places. The cheese was balance out the tartness of the guava filling an the empanada was fried to perfection. Topped off with a little bit of powdered sugar. I can still taste the empanada on my taste buds. As I was leaving Minias on my most recent visit, the mailwoman asked me if the food was good as she watched me shuttle a bag full of my breakfast and lunch from Minias. Duh "It's delicious" was my response ( ok maybe not duh). Minias serves up the perfect breakfast and lunch items. Why is it perfect? The food taste great, not generic, some portion sizes can be shared or saved as leftovers, all at a fair price. This is my go to when I want to a "home cooked meal" feel. I will admit here that I found this place by accident. I had intended to go somewhere else but they were closed on Mondays so it led me to this little gem and I'm glad I stumbled upon it. For years I've been on the search for the perfect Cuban Sandwich since the place I enjoyed it before this was a spot that closed about 10 years ago, and I was disappointed each time. (Yes, even the traditional Cuban places in Montclair didn't make the cut for me) The perfection in this sandwich, comes from the bread being beautifully crispy on the outside, yet toasted enough that its not too crunchy. The pork being so delicately moist, and the pickle thinly sliced to make one of the most flavorful bites you could take out of a sandwich. My complaints usually come from bread being too flimsy and these places absolutely going "ham sandwich" with the mayo. The Cuban Sandwich at Minia's is my reason to go back again and again. Service & Overall: Go at a reasonable time in the morning and you'll most likely not be caught in a wait time. The wait staff is wonderful, like a family member making wonderful suggestions and just happy to be there. Their kindness was sincere.
