Do I recommend this Minsky's, or any of them? Of course! It's a well-known brand in KC and for good reason. Minsky's is serving up outstanding pies, loaded with whatever toppings you wish, mixed with a signature cheese blend, and have been doing so for nearly 50 years. Their locations are sprinkled all across the metro area and chances are very good that there's one right near you. My local Minsky's (Shawnee) has just remodeled, expanding their space while maintaining their outstanding pizza and great service. The bar area has been expanded so that there is a U-shaped seating area with double the capacity for those that just want to pony up for a drink. Tons of TVs line the space, generally tuned to some type of sportsball whether local or otherwise. Great sightlines, great seating, and excellent bar selection. Obviously, the pizza is the hook. But Minsky's has that pizzeria vibe, you know, when we actually used to eat pizza at the place that it was made before delivery was constantly a thing. Dine-in or carry out, you'll get a signature pie: the crust is unique, the sauce is robust, and every pizza is able to hold the toppings without flopping downward. Minsky's always has curbside pick up, and tip well for those young folks that are coming out to bring you your order. A family member and I were visiting Kansas Speedway from out of state and opted to try Minsky's for dinner. The pizza was amazing - no other way to say it. Everytime I have ordered the tostado pizza, this store will forget the toppings and I paid extra to have it delivered just today and guess what, no toppings even though I left a comment to PLEASE REMEMBER TO GIVE THE DRIVER THE TOPPINGS. The driver said they saw my message and assured him the toppings were already on the pizza. I thought, well good. They finally did something different so that they would quit forgetting the toppings. No, that's not the case, no toppings. So when I called, the guy that answered the phone was so rude, kept telling me well, you can come back over here and get the toppings after I paid $45 for 1 large Pizza. This site just reopened from a remodel and is going well. Converted bar area to a legit small sports bar atmosphere without losing the family friendly dining area. They also added a dedicated door for carry out. Food is still great. I'm a local and know much of the staff. They're dedicated folks committed to getting it right Photos are not great. This classic chain is a local hit whether you're in Missouri or Kansas. I can't speak to the locations because we always get delivery which is on par with any other service. I normally wouldn't write a review about such a well known business, but I tried something that I believe should never be sold again.... The Z Man BBQ Pizza. This is Minsky's 2nd collaboration with Joe's KC. Their first BBQ/Pizza invention was the Burnt Ends BBQ Pizza. It was a hit! Very good combo that so many enjoyed it sold out. I personally enjoyed it even though it was a bit too sweet for your typical pizza. Well, now they have joined forces again and this time Joes's KC is offering up their Z-Man sandwich recipe to the "gourmet and gonna stay that way" restaurants. The Z-Man is a BBQ sandwich which features sliced smoked brisket, smoked provolone cheese, a couple of onion rings, a bit of barbecue sauce, all on top of a Kaiser roll. It's very good in sandwich form. Not so much as a pizza. Firstly, the pizza must be ordered in large form and is limited to standard crust. I understand these limitations and don't take exception except maybe the size which I'll explain in a bit. The pizza starts with Minsky's original crust glazed with garlic butter and sprinkled with Joe's KC French Fry Seasoning. The pizza base started with a layer of Joe's KC BBQ sauce before being topped with mozzarella and provolone cheese, Joe's KC's slow-smoked sliced beef brisket, and Joe's KC onion rings. The whole concoction is then drizzled with Joe's KC BBQ sauce. Sounds good on paper, but as a pizza it doesn't hold up. Seit has too much BBQ sauce. Very very sweet with little else to break the overpowering sauce. The meat is perfectly fine, but what I take exception with is the onion rings. They're too mushy after having sauce, cheese and then being reheated after deep frying. And if you have left overs, remember it has to be a large, the onion rings become almost inedible. Very tough to chew. Hopefully there will be another collaboration in the future and they learn from their mistakes by making a great BBQ pizza. After all Kansas City is the BBQ capital of the world. (I'm looking at you Memphis and Houston). read more

I ordered online, as we just finished a 5k race, paddling at the Shawnee lake. I realized I forgot to change the Gluten free pizza to have dairy free cheese and immediately called them. They said they would fix it. I ordered the natures choice (added lamb sausage) and the boyfriend ordered regular papa minskys. Can I just say... One of THE BEST pizzas I have had. Minsky's is a casual and relaxed restaurant that we enjoy going to for our favorite pizza. We get the Gluten Free Jumbo Combo pizza that my husband (who doesn't have celiac) really likes. Their pizza is excellent and toppings are top notch. They have great servers and quick service. The only negative is that the side salad is priced too high $4.18 for the amount served. The content of the salad is fresh and tastes good but the side salad itself is tiny. Their regular sized salads are just fine though. read more

I recently visited this Minsky's location for the first time with my family as my sister moved to Lenexa a few months ago and this is the closest Minsky's to her new apartment. Minsky's is a KC staple, and there are tons of locations peppered around the metro area. It's kind of like the best local pizza chain in town, and it's pretty easy to find a location convenient to you. All of this being said, this was not my first dine-in Minsky's experience, and I'm certain it will not be my last. Now, let's break down this visit: Ambiance: This Minsky's has the look and feel of most Minsky's around the metro. Meaning it feels like a pretty standard pizzeria. It's got some arcade games in the entryway (albeit kind of in the way of the entryway!), tons of tables, and that je ne sais quoi that just says, "I'm a pizzeria." The ambiance for me is really what kind of takes it downhill a bit for me. This one in particular felt a bit worn out, but then again, I don't often dine in at pizza spots for this reason. Service: The service is solid here. We had a super nice waiter, didn't have to wait long for a table, despite having a massive group, and overall had a great time. Food: I love Minsky's pizza and this location did a stellar job of delivering on fresh and tasty pizza. Overall, it's a great spot to gather with friends over some local 'za. read more

I love Minsky's Shawnee, the Shawnee newly remodeled location is great. Service is always good, but I do want to comment that we ordered a Large Jumbo Combo, our normal order, to pick up, and we were really disappointed in the pizza. The problem was that it was totally saturated with onions, little tiny onion pieces just covered the whole pie. All we tasted was onion! So whoever made our pizza this time, big huge fail. We expected onion along with green pepper, but not a whole large minced onion completely covering the pie. So maybe tone it down a bit. Next time I'll order it without onions. At $28 plus dollars for a pizza, I expect excellence. The picture below show the amount of onions minus a few left on the tiny piece. Notice the difference between the green pepper vs onion. We ordered carry out around 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Everything was hot and ready within 20 minutes. I absolutely LOVE the mini pizzas. At $6.99 a pizza, you can get a really good variety, at a reasonable price. You can also customize the crust on them (many options). The honey crust is a favorite, as is the Buffalo chicken pizza. We went with deep dish crust on the bigger Cupperoni pizza, and it was a bit much. Lots of crust. But that's ok, just wasn't our personal preference. The apps were good as well. Nothing special, but good non the less. Highly recommend the mini pizzas for a good variety, honey crust, and Buffalo chicken pizza. read more

I ordered curbside pickup online. I was about 5 minutes away when I ordered and the website said it'd take about 20 minutes, which was no problem. I got over to the area and stopped at a convenience store to grab a 2 Liter of pop to go with the pizza I'd ordered. I arrived at the curbside about 10 minutes before my order was due to be ready. One of the servers promptly came out to get my name. I told him I knew I was pretty early. They were not busy (2pm on Saturday). Just a couple of minutes later, he brought out my wings and Large Crab Rangoon pizza. We are fans of Crab Rangoon pizzas and like to try them when we find them on offer; however, we often find that pizza places put far too much of the Chili Sauce on their pizzas for our taste. I missed the button on their website that would have allowed me to customize the toppings to request less sauce or sauce on the side. I see now where that option was available; so no blame to them. We did wish their was less sauce and their sauce is quite spicy for our taste; however, I will say that the pizza was quite tasty and probably the best or at least tied for 1st place in my book of the best Crab Rangoon pizza I've had so far. We ordered ours on thin crust. The crust is pretty flavorless, but still was a great pizza. The wings were good too. Nicely cooked and tasty. The peppercorn ranch that we chose as the dipping sauce wasn't anything spectacular but got the job done. In all, it was good food. Prepared quickly and we had friendly service. read more

The seasonal specials like the Oktoberfest pizza and the Minsky Joe (has barbecue from Joe's KC added) but the Oktoberfest is a little over the top, lol! It has a super rich Alfredo mustard sauce, tater tots, cheese grits, you get the point. Only complaint is that you cannot split specialty pizza styles, because apparently they will not put two types of sauce on a pizza, even after you say you don't care if they overlap a little. read more

The weekday lunch special (side salad, breadstick, large slice, and a drink for $7.49) is a great way to enjoy what is arguably KC's most beloved pizza. My dine-in lunch experience was very good. The lunch special salad was served five minutes after I ordered at the table. It had a variety of fresh veggies, a choice of dressing, and a delicious, freshly baked breadstick. My choice of pizza slice was served just six minutes later. It was nicely sized at 6" long x 10" wide, with that delicious Minsky's flavor, delicious cheese, and a good amount of toppings. The service was attentive and helpful, but not especially cheerful, while the dining area was clean and spacious with two dining areas, plenty of TVs, a nice mix of 70s, 80s, and 90s background music, and a full bar. Stopped in for dinner. Wow! One of the best pizzas I have EVER had. I got the deep dish and built it my way. Their list of toppings must be at least 50 items. The deep dish crust was flavorful and flaky, and cooked perfectly. Started with a house salad and homemade Ranch dressing. The salad is huge and so fresh and crispy. I have to update this review. This is actually the second time we have gotten a burned cauliflower crust pizza but the first time, it was edible. Sunday night, we threw it away. It was just gross. I contacted Minsky's asking for a refund via their online contact form, and I've heard nothing. So disappointed. We love love love this Minsky's location. Tonight for Yelp's "Big Night In" we ordered Minsky's famous vegetarian Za and some cheesey breadsticks. I don't know how they came up with the idea to put sliced almonds on a pizza but it is BRILLIANT. We ordered our pizza online, which was quick and easy. It was delivered on a busy Saturday night within 45 minutes by a sweet and friendly Minsky's employee. A great experience as always. The pizza crust is a perfect thickness, there's never too much sauce and there are plenty of toppings to go around. The Prime Cut Pizza is always my go to and a meat lovers dream, so delicious every time. And if you're gluten free, they have a whole menu of options to chose from! Our grandchildren, ages 13, 9 and 7 had pizzas last night after a basketball games. I am basically writing the review because the 13 and 9 year old boys were so very impressed with the service! One of the mini pizzas that were ordered was brought out for the 9 year old and it was a little crispy. Before anyone could comment, the waiter explained that another one was coming, at no extra charge and he could eat this one while he was waiting. They couldn't believe it was complimentary! He called the boys gentleman and our grand daughter, young lady. This is the first time we have taken them to a pizza place where every piece of pizza was eaten by all. Besides the 2 mini pizzas the 13 year old ate a 10 inch by himself and proclaimed it delicious. When we got up to leave all 3 children said how much they liked the waiter! read more

Oh Minsky's Shawnee. I don't know whether to give you one star or five, as it depends on the day. Sometimes the pizza is fantastic, as in "best in the city" fantastic. Other times it's borderline inedible due to lack of toppings, overcooking, and a general lack of detail. We actually quit ordering for two years due the inconsistency. The good news, quality control is something you should be able to remedy. Do that and you'll be the best in KC. read more

Had Minsky's in Shawnee for the first time today. I had a custom pizza. My wife and I could not find any pepperoni and wondered if they put hamburger or it that was just the burnt extra cheese? I asked for extra sauce but had to go back and verify if I checked the no sauce box as there was hardly any sauce on the pizza. So, for $33 will not return to this or any Minsky's. read more
