    House salad
    Colleen L.

I like Pizza Shoppe for when I feel like pizza but don't want to feel heavy afterwards. I grabbed a to-go order and it was exactly as I expected. They seem to stay pretty steady but were quickly able to fulfill my order accurately. I love the house salad. Maybe more than the pizza. It's a super simple salad of iceberg, mozzarella, bacon bits, and pepperoni. I love the pink stuff dressing. It's a garlicky concoction that I never skip. You can buy it at the grocery store but it's especially good on their salad. The pizza is always nice and light. The crust is certainly unique. It's got a cracker like texture that is light and crispy while still being sturdy enough to hold toppings. It's never greasy and I never feel overly heavy after eating it. They have specialty pizzas or you can make your own. The prices are pretty average. They also have sandwiches and pasta options if pizza isn't your thing.

We stopped in for dinner and it was empty. The server came over immediately and we ordered and the food came out in a reasonable time. My husband ordered the Queen Roundtable and a side salad and I ordered the gluten free one topping pizza. My husband's salad was good and his pizza was just okay. There is something up with the cheese, as soon as we both started chewing it turns into a rubbery blob. My 8" gluten free crust pizza was terrible. The crust is terrible and the cheese is rubbery and it's tiny for the price. The bathroom was clean but the main light was out so they had a bulb with a cord attached to the wall for the light and it was so dark in the bathroom. You could barely see what you were doing.

When we told her it was our first visit to the restaurant, she took the time to carefully go over the menus with us (regular, happy hour, and drinks), providing her recommendations when we asked. Her guidance was spot-on-target! For drinks, I had a Mindful Chai and my friend had the 3-Beverage Flight (Golden Hour, Heart Says Thanks, and Tres Raices). My chai was the BEST I have ever tasted (and I order chai every chance I get!), and my friend loved her 3 drinks (she said Tres Raices was her favorite). For our food, we split an order of the Not Queso Dip and the Avocado Tostadas. We were both very impressed by how fresh the ingredients were, and the blend of flavors in each dish that created a unique and yummy taste. The Kitchen has an open, airy layout that inspires deep breathing, while the arrangement and spacing of tables still provides for intimacy of conversation and minimal ambient noise. Sofhia checked back with us several times during our meal to ensure we had everything we needed and were thoroughly enjoying our food and drink (we were!). It was a delightful meal, and we thank Sofhia, the kitchen staff, and everyone at Whole Harvest Kitchen for such a lovely time. We'll be back!!

Okay Modern Market, I see you…read more I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon!

The sauce that was on my sandwich was different than the picture online. I did get my order through Uber Eats. The veggies were very fresh and crispy on the sandwich. The fire roasted veggies were not seasoned except for a bit of turmeric but it didn't really have a taste. Overall the food was good and very fresh but the price was a bit high.

Easy to find off of 87th, the space is not huge, but there's plenty of seating, especially at the bar. Daily specials and a happy hour that runs until 6 PM during the week, so there is plenty from which to choose. Burger night (Mondays?) is $2 off the specialty burgers, and I recommend that Diablo Burger if you like a little heat. Sliced jalapeños & pineapple atop a 1/2 lb. burger with a sweet heat sauce, this burger will hit just right. Service is friendly and fast and the prices are right on par with the market. You can get in and out with a couple of burgers and a couple of drinks during special time for around $45 and that's a pretty good deal with a better value to boot.
