My friend had recommended their food so I was willing to give Mint a try. I ordered takeout from Mint and their delivery partner Postmates. Let me just say, the butter chicken I ordered was molten level hot when I received it. I also ordered the Garlic Naan. I was kind of disappointed that they didn't include rice with my order and it was an extra cost for rice. I get it but my neighborhood Indian spot includes rice with each entree. So the pricing was more expensive than my normal spot. The food was good despite being delivered. We went to this place yesterday with our friends at their recommendation. The place was open during Christmas eve which was a big plus. We ordered their goat karahi, lamb kebabs, butter chicken , malai kofta and garlic naan. The food is definitely flavourful and tasty. Their butter chicken is a must try item. The goat karahi was good but felt a little short of my expectations. The naan was soft and garlicky. The only short coming was that due to Covid situation they are unable to offer even outdoor sitting. The hosts are very polite and obliging. The dishes are slightly on the pricier side but they could offer more quantity to compensate for higher prices. We come often enough to know what our go to is here. I would love for them to add some beef to their menu, but the chicken karahi is our favorite. We always ask it to be extra spicy, and never regret those words. The bass karahi is also good, but the amount of fish vs. price point is very passable. I would recommend the chicken karahi (extra spicy if you can handle the heat), with garlic/plain naan, and the chicken biryani (extra spicy) is pretty good as well. I normally never order biryani at Indian/Pakistani restaurants as they are super disappointing. But I enjoyed this to the point that I actually ate it the next day. My #1 favorite food in the world is biryani, so my expectations on it are pretty high. As I mentioned, this was only the second time, apart from home cooked, that I enjoyed biryani. My bf and I had to go to Ralphs on the way home to get basmati rice we had to make ourselves. Portions (in person) are huge while delivery seemed less than what it was when I was there. It's not where you get rice with the curry, you have to order a side of rice (which is my only gripe). After reading all the great reviews, I had to stop by and check it out. I really appreciate family business that brings their home cooking and culture out so we can experience it. These guys are serving amazing food. It seems like they have nice dining room. However, due to the pandemic, they have created an outside seating area in the parking lot with four tables, each table has four seats. The food here is very delicious and authentic. Their naan comes out hot and tastes amazing. They were able to accommodate my taste for spicy food and provided the dish in the photo as my extra spicy vindaloo. It was delicious and I finished all of it. Not a spec of fat on the lamb and the sauce was so flavorful. They didn't skimp on the meat as my dish had a few potato slices but was mostly delicious lamb meat. The mint chutney hot sauce was great for dipping the naan. We ordered samosas and they were crispy and very flavorful. They were so good we ordered another round of them. Not sure if this place just opened but it's empty. We ordered the typical chicken tikka masala ($11.95 for about 6 pcs of cubed chicken), their garlic naan ($3.00 each), & an order of white rice ($3.00 & plenty to share between 2). The masala is so good here! I wanted to lick that bowl clean! The garlic naan was also good, could use a little more garlic for my taste. Took away 2 stars due to location, ambiance, & it took a long time for our food to be served. Granted the dining room was not full, but I did notice a lot of to go orders. That probably explains why. About a month ago, the better half and I were waiting on our order from Tommy Pastrami and decided to walk Kamena through around the Alicia Plaza Shopping Center. We checked out the menu, bookmarked the restaurant and decided it was worth a visit when we weren't tethered to our four-legged family member. Fast forward to last weekend which saw the reinstitution of "Bookmark Saturday" and a dining experience at Mint Restaurant. A server greeted us and told us to sit at any unoccupied table. At first we picked a small table for two, but knowing we usually get a large sampling of the menu when visiting a new restaurant, we eventually moved to a larger table. Once we were settled, drink orders were taken and menus were handed out. The menu is pretty straightforward and consists of Appetizers, Vegetable Courses, Mint Specials, Chicken Courses, Lambs Courses, Biryani, Side Dishes, Naan, Drinks and Desserts. This is a family restaurant with a few tables set up to accommodate large parties and a few of the family young (loud) children. If you are looking for a romantic evening, don't dine here. Rohlinism: Children are spawned by romance, but romance is not spawned by children! While perusing the menu, we debated getting the Maint Tandoori Mixed Platter (two eat of tandoori chicken, samosas, prawn shrimp and lamb seekh kabab), but decided it would be too much food with the rest of our order and skipped the appetizer. The kitchen completed our order in a reasonable period of time and the entrees came out first, followed shortly thereafter by the rice, raita and naan. We don't eat Indian cuisine very often, but when we do Mayur Cuisine of India in Corona Del Mar is the "yardstick" by which all other restaurants are measured. The biggest fail and it was the garlic naan. This is one item we will order at every new Indian restaurant we visit and this was probably one of the worst. The naan was served close to room temperature which means the naan had already hardened and the better half thought we had been given regular naan until I was able to point a few pieces of minced garlic on this naan. The kitchen needs to be more liberal with the minced garlic since vampires only exist in horror movies and if someone orders garlic naan it means they like garlic! Laina wasn't a fan of the cheese naan either, she didn't like the flavor of the cheese with the naan. I liked it and at the very least it was served warm and had the correct texture for naan bread. The rice portion was large for the price ($3.00) and probably would have supported three entrees and not just the two we ordered. The rice was the traditional basmati and it was cooked to perfection. The raita was a huge hit with the wife and helped make up for the non-garlic naan. She didn't even mind the small pieces mixed into the yogurt base and the cucumber. Both entrees were on the larger side. The lamb came with four chops and the 1/2 chicken was a generous portion. Speaking of generous, if you love onions, they smothered the plate from one end to the other. My loving wife loves onions with her tandoori chicken and there were onions and to spare on both entrees. The chicken had the correct spiciness for tandoori chicken with the paprika and cumin being the most dominate spices. The chicken wasn't overcooked and dry which can be an issue with clay oven cooking at Indian restaurants. The lamb was equally seasoned and cooked to a medium. I wouldn't rate either dish as high as their counterpart at Mayur, but I think the price point here is justified by the quality of the menu items. The service was helpful and attentive throughout the service and the owner even stopped by as I was taking care of the check to inquire as to how we enjoyed the meal and discovered the restaurant. I think he was amused by the answer I gave regarding the discovery of his restaurant. We don't desire Indian cuisine often, but Mint will be an option when the craving hits us! read more
