Food was decent and came out quickly. However, the spice levels got confused between dishes. We asked for split checks. It took the waiter at least half an hour to come back to our table, and the check was still not split. Eventually we just had one person pay and it took another 15 minutes to ring just her up. This is the no frills kind of restaurant. Very simple setup with tables and chairs. However, they do have an extensive menu. My friends were specifically looking for biryanis and we've found the best in the city. Definitely do note that they don't play around with their spice levels. If you can't take the heat, highly recommend to ask for non spicy. In terms of portions, one order of Biryani would feed approximately 2 ppl. For non biryani items, they're pretty decent sized enough for 1.5 ish. Don't forget to get their Mango Lassi. Absolutely delicious! read more

Every time I've been to the Monroeville location, the food is hot and fresh and the service is outstanding. Some highlights for me are the apps - Paneer 65, samosa chat, mirchi bhaji, etc., and the butter paneer. Everything I've had has been wonderful. Highly recommend! read more

Came here for a celebratory graduation dinner for my baby sister on Saturday. The location on William Penn highway was closed due to no electricity so we drove in to Banksville. The location is easy to find, off of a fairly busy street and the parking lot is small! This location has a banquet hall attached, so it had a fairly full parking lot, but we were able to find a small spot in the back near the dumpsters. The tables are nice and well spaced. The restaurant is clean and the menu is expansive, reasonably priced (for DC not sure about Pittsburgh), and it's south Indian, which I love. No peas in my baigan bharta, please!!! We ordered the samosas chaat, onion pakora and the traditional samosas. The samosas chaat were delicious very spicy very fresh. They do add a lot of fresh veggies to it. So it's extremely filling and they cut the samosas for samosa chaat so they can feed 3 to 5 people, as opposed to one person or two people with the traditional Samosa. We tried several dishes including baighan bharta, lamb rogan josh and gongura chicken, chicken korma and fish masala. Everything was delicious. No one wanted to share their food even though we ordered to eat family style lol. The garlic naan was also very good. My sister tried the pashwari naan which I've never tasted as my son has a nut allergy. The ones who could tried it. It's okay but jammy and sweeter than I like. I prefer a more savory experience, but she liked it so ‍ The service was hit or miss, mostly miss, as they had a banquet going on. We had to track down our server for everything and waited 20 minutes for more naan which is an emergency because we do eat it with the food lol. We passed on dessert because the wait was interminable- I never even got a glass of water!!! They brought 6 glasses for a table of 7. The mango lassis came well after the food as well. Sigh. Overall it's worth the wait and the food is GREAT but be prepared to wait on the weekends if there is a party. Every table there was over 6 and they were doing a brisk takeaway business the entire time as well. The manager never came to check on us but did solicit my feedback when I paid - when it was good, I was gently encouraged to review, which I would have anyway lol. This food is delicious. I would use them for catering too. I'm not sure if I'd do a family dinner on a weekend again for the reasons above. The last three or four times I have been to the weekend buffet has been hit or miss. Thankfully on this most recent visit it was more of a hit, but not perfect. The last few visits when we arrived at Noon, the buffet was not ready and we had to wait till it was finished being setup. Yesterday we arrived about 10 minutes after, and it was ready. In the past, food temperatures were not always hot, and yesterday was no exception. We observed them lighting Sternos under some of the food trays about 15 minutes after the buffet opened. The food got warmer eventually but was never really hot. The chicken soup was cold when my wife tried it. They need to do better keeping food hot and making sure food is cooked properly. One chicken wing dish did not appear fully cooked on both mine, and my daughter's plates. We decided not to eat the wings. The other chicken dishes I tasted appeared to be cooked properly. Otherwise, there is a very big selection, and most of the dishes were to my liking. They have Dosas cooked to order, and I've tried the Masala Dosa in the past, but today my daughter and I split a Chocolate Dosa (for kids the menu says), and it was delicious. Amazing food, amazing service!! I highly recommend. Ambiance was really nice. I enjoy listening to Bollywood music when I'm eating and they have a great taste. Samosa Chaat was my favorite! I also love the Tikka Masaala, it's soo good. Biryani was great although has a lot of flavors so be prepared. Naan bread was delicious!! The Laasi (first time) I think the taste of dairy/milk is a lot I would much rather if the mango was more overpowering than the milk. But I want to say that the mango was still strong anyway. We came here on a Friday night and it was busy! The service was slow and it took us a while to get wine glasses and water. The restaurant is a basic Indian restaurant with not much decor. There was a tv when you enter so if you sit there it was pretty loud. We opted to sit on the other side of the restaurant away from the tv. The food was all very flavorful and there was a lot. Not a huge fan. I've been at quite a few Indian restaurants, and the food I ordered from here was one of the spiciest dishes I've ever had from such a restaurant. I wasn't really impressed by any of the food and the prices are higher here than at many other places. I tried the channa bhatura (chickpea with puffy bread), kheer, and gulab jamun. The bread was quite good. They gave me two pieces of bhatura. It was flavorful and had a good texture, so no complaints there. However, the chickpeas themselves were sooo spicy! I could barely eat this dish, and it was supposed to be a 5/10 spice. They also don't have a spice option listed on their website, so make sure to write it in the comments. Also, the chickpeas were not in a nice thick curry, but rather, in a watery, soupy consistency. Not good. 2.3/5 The kheer was pretty good. Nothing that special about it. It seemed to be made with vermicelli instead of the regular rice, but not bad. Again, it was not thick and creamy, but soupy. It was at least and flavorful. They did put some nuts and raisins in there. 2.6/5 Gulab jamun was also nothing special. They give you quite small portions for $4 (3 tiny balls). It also didn't quite taste homemade (but I can't confirm this). Also just not as good as I've had elsewhere. 2.5/5 All in all, I probably won't return to this place. The prices are way high for the portions (not just for th food I ordered, but some biryanis cost $17 or $18! And curries around $16). Spice levels aren't too accurate. There are better options in my opinion. If you are considering visiting the Monroeville location, try New India Grill instead. It's sooo good, amazing portions, and way cheaper prices. read more

We got delivery via DoorDash and enjoyed everything. The butter chicken was amazing and by far my favorite. The palak paneer was great but very salty, even for me. The chicken tikka masala was great as well but not as good as the butter chicken. The garlic naan was ok, maybe it would be better fresh. The corn soup was a little bland but good. Just needs salt. Revisited this restaurant after 4ish years. Did take out once and they screwed up an order ( I called them and they could've cared less about screwing it up). Called again last week to place a 15 person catering order. I had given the order over the phone and asked how many of each dish I would need for the amount of people I was ordering for as portion size varies from restaurant to restaurant. indi This guys wasn't understanding what I was asking for and kept asking how many orders of each I needed. After 10 mins of this back and forth, I asked to talk to a manager and try my luck with another person, to which I was told he was the only one around. He then tells me he has a few people waiting in the dining room to be served and that he'll call me back. He never did. I hope someone from their management team reads this review as it's a shame that they were not staffed adequately or with employees who have the basic skills to handle some basic questions for a take-out order. If you know, you know. And we know that this is a top tier place in the south hills for Indian food. We were in the area and we ordered some takeout. We were so hungry I didn't take any pictures. We ordered the Paneer 65 and Baby Corn Manchurian appetizers. Both of these were really nicely spiced and were delicious. For entrees we got a Chicken Dosa, a Keema Dosa, and Lamb Rogan Josh. I only tried my Lamb Rogan Josh and it was delicious. My parents loves their Dosas and the stuff that came with it (I need to learn the names of everything!). We also got some Garlic Naan to go with everything. This wasn't as good as it is when it's fresh, but I guess we'll just have to drive home faster. I tried looking at the menu online and it seemed smaller than what I remember. When I went to place the order online the full menu was there. Good variety of South Indian, North Indian , Chinese food and a bakery. Comes with one plate 4 pappads as complimentary for the table however big the group is... that was really funny... Even water needed atleast 4 reminders to be refilled. That did not make us feel welcome. The dosa, chutney and sambar tasted good but they were not even warm. WOW! This place seriously blew me away. The waitstaff was super friendly when I walked through the door. I walked over to check out the buffet first, to see what they had to offer. I could not believe the huge selection that they had available (tons of vegetarian options) as well. The food was wonderfully prepared, and extremely fresh. Indian food always has such amazing flavor, but this place blew all other Indian food in the area out of the water! In addition to their fresh main courses offered on the buffet, they also had homemade desserts available on the buffet & also warm chai tea. Best part? I stopped by here this past Friday evening for dinner with my wife. We were looking for an Indian place to eat some food and the Mintt happened to fit our needs. I have been to the Mintt once previously but it had been a number of years since then. This restaurant is located on Banksville road and had a somewhat warehouse feel to it. Whenever you first walk in there is a large dining room off to the left and a display case with cakes off to the right. Behind that display case is where the buffet is but since it was a Friday evening they did not have it up and running. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the Chicken chettinad which I have never had before along with some garlic naan. The menu described my dish as boneless chicken simmered in black pepper sauce, coconut and mild spices and our waiter asked me for the spice level (minimum 4 on this dish) and I ordered a 9. Whenever I tried my dish i ended up enjoying it as the sauce had a sweetness to it from the coconut milk and I also could taste some cinnamon too. That level 9 spice wasn't a joke either as it certainly packed an enjoyable punch. My chicken in the dish was moist and decent although I was a little worried about one piece being slightly undercooked. As for the garlic naan, well, it was delicious. It had the perfect texture and had a ton of garlic on it which gave it a great flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought that my food was good and I enjoyed that their menu had a slightly larger selection than the usual Indian menus that I see. read more

I have been craving Indian food for awhile now, so my family and I decided to get some take out. I wasn't sure where to order but my friend had recommended this place. It was pretty good and it satiated my indian food craving. We ordered butter chicken, which was probably one of my least favorites compared to the rest but the chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce it comes it was very creamy and not that heavy. However, the taste compared to the rest of the food wasn't my favorite. Not to say it was bad, I just enjoyed the other flavors better. We also ordered the Baingan Bharta which tasted great! The eggplant was so smoky and the spices mixed in so well with it. You could see all of the cooked leafy greens. I also figured I'd try the Baby Corn Manchurian which was unlike anything I've had before. These were a little heavier but really good. My least favorite were the samosas. The deep fried breading was just too thick for me and the inside didn't have that much flavor. I wasn't a fan of it at all. All of this came with sauces like mint chutney, some kind of corn meal and another sweet brown sauce. I loved the mint sauce, it was super refreshing. And my absolute favorite part of the meal was the side chicpeas with loads of spices and some kind of sauce. I don't even know what it's called but it was really good. I lived in Houston, TX for several years in the late 80s then in the bay area (Mountain View) for a decade in the 90s where there were a lot of great Indian restaurants. Mintt in Monroeville is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever visited. (It's not Empress of India, but she has no challengers to her throne! :-) I go to Mintt and get take-out dinner when I'm working at the office. They have a wide-ranging menu and also make an excellent salt lassi. Their vindaloo is off the chart, don't order spicy over 5 on the 10 scale unless you know what you can handle. Their lentil soup (mild spicy) is an entire dinner for me combined with an order of paneer 65, and a side of rice. Dining there in person is also wonderful in terms of service, answers to questions, and how they plate their food. My only suggestion? Bring your own take-out containers, you will need them! Restaurants in Pittsburgh always have too much food for an entree, at Mintt you'll take home tomorrow's dinner. read more

Thirdly, there is no air-conditioning in this place, so it is incredibly humid. I repeat, do not come here. The one waitress was jaded and disinterested in taking orders and disappeared after I sat down. There was food encrusted on the menu. My brother told me about this new Indian restaurant that just opened it's doors on Banksville road - home to a slew of other Indian shops. I was eager to try it out, as rumor is the restaurant is owned by the former head chef at Tamarind. I have always loved the food at Tamarind, so I thought i would give this place a try. Food: Delicious, and fairly priced. They have a very good range of food (North Indian, South Indian, and Indo-Chinese). Their Indo-Chinese is to die for. I ordered their Veg Hakka noodles, it's was very spicy and flavorful. We also tried the Veg Manchurian, a different take on the typical Gobi Manchurian. It's quite soft in the center, but a welcome change. I've been there twice, and both times as I was happily satisfied each time. They also have different types of Indo-Chinese dishes, and North Indian dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere. Give this new Indian restaurant a try - you won't be sorry! read more

My experience here was fine, but I'd never go back. The atmosphere is very bare bones and it's clear the majority of their business is take out. The food is pretty good, but the waiter brought our appetizer out at the same time as our entrees, which defeats the purpose of an appetizer. Most recently, through Grubhub delivery, I ordered butter chicken, samosa, garlic naan, and chicken seekh kabab. My husband has been absolutely raving about the good here! We made it a point to get takeout so that I could give it a try. I got the lamb vindaloo. They have a nice serving size although I thought it could have had more lamb and potatoes in it. It was a lot of sauce. They also gave me enough rice to feed two people. The lamb and potatoes were really good. I ordered a level 5 spice. Anything spicier would have been to much. Our food was not ready when I got there so they offered to bring it out to the car. It was served with Channa((chickpea/Garbanzo beans)) Masala curry. The 2nd pic-- "Chilli Chicken" appetizer was spicy ((like I requested)) but was waaaayy too tangy((probably with too much vinegar)) with colored peppers. Didnt taste like our usual Indo-Chinese dish. I dont believe I would order it again. The 3rd pic shows Masala Dosa which is flat crepe stuffed with a type of potatoes masala. Cold and not hot nor warm sadly. 4th pic shows idli- 3 White fluffy rice cakes. Not soft as it should be. It was hard& cold. Decent place to enjoy Indian food. Though the ambience is below ordinary the food tasted okay. We ordered veg thali, masala chai, onion naan and vegetable Hakka noodles. Immediately we were served with tea and complimentary papad with mint and tamarind chutney. The tea was average and can be avoided. The noodles were too much oily at the bottom of the bowl for my liking otherwise they tasted good. The sambhar was sweet in the thali, but mix veg was delicious, naan was soft and onion naan was also good. The paneer tikka makhni was oddly sweet. The biryani, plain rice, papad, salad, rasmalai, raita were all good. I didn't like the mix veg pakoda though. Mostly the flavors were closer to a South Indian cuisine.
