I recently suffered a compound open ankle fracture due to an accident caused by a driver who ran a…read morered light. A week into my recovery, the wrap covering my leg from knee to toes began to come loose -- something my doctor said could be carefully re-wrapped, but which would be extremely difficult for me to manage on my own due to the extent of my injuries. I came to OnPoint, expecting to receive a few minutes of basic assistance and was stunned when the clerk conferred with the medical staff and informed me that re-wrapping is "not something they get involved with." When I said that I found it hard to believe they would prefer I go home and attempt this myself rather than offer minimal help, I received only a shrug. Since I can't drive myself -- it is my right ankle that is broken -- I had to arrange to be be taken to AFC Urgent Care on Weslayan, where the staff took a few moments to assess my situation and re-wrapped the loosened area without hesitation. They even invited me to return if the wrap should come loose again before my follow-up appointment. I understand urgent care facilities have limitations, but refusing to spend five minutes assisting a patient with a serious fracture -- particularly one who cannot simply drive herself elsewhere -- reflects poorly on this practice. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend OnPoint to anyone in a vulnerable sitution.

As I entered the building, I noticed that while the building is not new, it was clean and in good repair. When I got to the assigned area, nurse called my name and someone else indicating for us to follow her. Unfortunately, this nurse did not identify herself, which I found odd. Having worked in medicine for more than 20 years one of the constant reminders other than frequent handwashing is to identify oneself when interacting with a new patient and their family. The nurse that was assigned to my friend is the same person who brought me to recovery area. The nurse never volunteered her name and finally, my friend asked her for her name. My friend was good and we soon left after retrieving their personal items from a locker. It seems my friend did get good care and that the staff were efficient. My waits have been minimal, online appointments and walk-ins have been a breeze, and the facility is clean and well maintained. Even the parking is abundant and rarely full. The front desk staff is professional and friendly. They've been especially good about follow up appointments, prescriptions filings, and even recommendations. The interaction is mostly minimal, which is a sign of their efficiency, which I appreciate. The only part where it can get dicey is that like any medical office, one may or may not see a doctor. There have been times where I've been feeling under the weather and a nurse / PA will see me, when I was really hoping for a doctor. That being said, Dr. Dino is my favorite. Bonus points if one is already a part of the Memorial Hermann system since results and prescribed meds are available post-visit almost immediately.
