we showed up pretty late for dinner - given that they close at 8pm. There were three of us and we ordered a TON of sushi! (the person that brought it to the table felt the need to comment about this, which I found in rather poor taste...) I have a salmon allergy, so finding rolls that don't contain salmon is always challenging, but this place has some good options! I was particularly fond of the Coco roll. (coconut shrimp based, but the flavor was surprisingly not overwhelming as I initially supposed.) All in all every roll we ordered was delightful. First, I want to say I'm not a picky eater, and I've never written a Yelp review before -- but this restaurant served me the least cohesive and most unenjoyable ramen I've ever had- I was truly inspired to share my two-cents. I ordered the Kyu ramen, which came with some basics like two slices of pork... but then things got strange. There was an overwhelming amount of seaweed, broccoli, and -- oddly -- sliced cucumber. On top of that, a gigantic, golf ball-sized piece of imitation crab meat which was definitely a great way to add texture and fishiness to the tonkotsu broth that was more rich in color rather than flavor. Their chicken teriyaki was subpar, and the sushi rolls were alright- I am sure if I had tried the sashimi or hand rolls I wouldn't be as disappointed. Visiting Bend and we thought we'd give it a try. Great location at Old Mill. Open setting with high ceilings, kids colorings were placed on one wall, all tables/booths were filled when we came in. Had Bob Ross painting show on tv that hung from the ceiling, weird choice for the setting. The servers were all very friendly so kudos to the staff. Execution though, lacked somewhat. Drinks came out slow and refills took a while, probably because we always had to flag someone down for something, instead of getting checked on. They do automatically charge 20% gratuity for parties of 6+(not an issue but just an fyi). Even though we were advised when we sat down, it didn't show up on the check we received, but was manually added on only after we provided the payment. The food was ok, couple of chicken teriyaki plates, bento boxes, ramen and sushi. We were given miso soup and a bowl of salad to start, but the bento boxes came with salad in the box as well, that's a lot of salad. Chicken teriyaki was ok, chicken was a little rubbery, teriyaki sauce was very light, in taste and amount they added. The shrimp for the assorted tempura (2 pieces) was very small. The large bowl of ramen seemed to taste very good, but arrived only after the other meals were already completed. Being from out of state, comparing it to places we've eaten back home, it's middle of the road. Didn't find anything wrong with the food, good servers but maybe just caught them at a very busy time, great location, couple of quirky things to talk about. In Bend for a week and hotel is close by, Mio Sushi provided us with a good dinner, but will probably try other establishments. read more
