While visiting Bend Oregon we decided to go back to visit Chi Chinese and Sushi Bar. It wasn't as crowded from the last time we visited and got seated right away. We ordered family style I ordered the orange chicken which was good and flavorful. The Seafood tofu soup was very good and tasty with a lot of vegetables and seafood and tofu. The appetizer platter was good and gave a good selection of their appetizers, so if you enjoy an appetizer you could order more. The fried spring rolls came out hot and crispy and the sauce was good it was the type you can buy at the market, sweet chili sauce which is what most restaurants are using. The sushi rolls we had 5 different types of sushi's rolls, which was good, but for sushi you should order 1-2 rolls at a time and as it starts to get eaten, then order the next set. First if you order all at once hardly any room on the table and sushi should be eaten fresh right away and also there was so much left over and to eat it the next day is the worst way to eat sushi! The only thing we didn't like was the gluten free version of the shrimp and pork rice rolls. They fall apart when you pick them up and they're 80% gooey rice sheet. They had a really nice bar just by looking at it. The server was nice and cheerful, we had a big group and was quickly seated and bought our food to our table in good time and it was well cooked, the vegetables were fresh and the atmosphere was calming, dark, and cheerful. My one area of change could be the soda, their soda machine was mixed up with Dr Pepper tasting like root beer other than that this is a good place to eat if you want somewhere to eat Chinese with a big group of people and fast timing, then look no further then Chi this is why I rate it 4 stars. read more

What a cool spot! From the outside it doesn't look like much. But inside you can choose from 4 different seating areas. We sat in the Banquet area. It has beautiful decor. There is also bar seating, sushi bar, or booth style. The service was great even on a busy Saturday night. Our food was tasty and arrived pretty quickly. Fun date night or family night out. It's been in Bend for a while, and I'm glad we finally tried it. We went for their dim sum Saturday (last Saturday of the month) and really enjoyed it overall. Not every dish was a hit, but everything was fresh. It took a little time, which is to be expected with dim sum made to order, and the staff stayed friendly throughout. After living in Bend for 6 years, we were introduced to Chi. Loved the atmosphere and food. Look forward to visiting soon. NOW this is the strange part.... we have passed this restaurant for 6 years and thought it was out of business (we are never on that side of town when the restaurant is open however). The landscape surrounding the restaurant is brown and looks dead. Consequently, we thought the water was turned off and restaurant was closed these past 6 years. So I suppose my suggestion to the owner/management.... A little weeding and mulch would do wonders to draw new patrons in. They say u eat with your eyes first, and frankly I am drawn in to a spot of beauty which is definitely missing. I wish u the best, I just needed to share my experience as we love Bend. read more

We tried this fantastic sushi restaurant in Bend tonight. My wife and I enjoyed four unbelievable rolls. We really enjoyed the sunset roll, fire dragon, spider roll, sweet Mama roll . Really every bite was extraordinary . And our waitress Gina was exceptionally friendly and hospitable . She is a real asset to this restaurant . The food was almost too beautiful to eat , like a work of art . We plan to frequent this restaurant anytime we are in Bend and I highly highly recommend it to anyone who likes sushi . We didn't even try the Chinese food on the menu as we came here just to eat sushi but I'm sure that is all just as wonderful . read more

Originally popped in to this place just looking for a bar so I could get a drink. Upon walking in, the ambiance was great! Very upscale looking restaurant inside. From the outside you'd really have no idea what was inside. Pretty good size inside. Bar area was a good size. They have sushi chefs lined up overlooking the main area of the restaurant. I ordered a Hennessy and then decided to look at the menu. I decided to order a starter which was the Haystack, was $12.00.. and the dish consisted of enoki mushrooms wrapped with steak, pan seared, green onion, and a garlic sauce. OMG, it was soooo good! The sauce was a great addition to the steak and the enoki mushrooms. I then decided to order a sushi roll and I got the Dragon Lady Roll.. which was $16.00.. the roll consisted of tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, topped w/unagi, jalapeño, sriracha, and unagi sauce... When I tell you the flavors that hit my mouth were beyond amazing! And to be honest I never order Unagi, I didn't read it correctly and thought it was just unagi sauce.. it was so good, I'll be eating more Unagi from now on. Please try this place out if you haven't. I've found quite a few great restaurants in Bend and this is definitely one of them. They are on the pricier side, but definitely worth it. We have heard lots of good things about CHI Chinese and Sushi Bar and have driven by the restaurant dozens of times. We used the excuse that our out of town visitors would not commit to what to eat for dinner to try the Chinese part of CHI. I made a reservation on-line. Our table was ready when we arrived. Like most Chinese restaurants the menu is a bit intimidating. The service was excellent. The lady that took care of us show the type of professionalism that makes to want to return to her restaurant. We were given plenty of time to make our decision. We settled on rice, noodles, shrimp and a couple of beef dishes. One of the things I like about a new-for-us restaurant is the restaurant's version of different dishes. I really liked the Beef with Broccoli because the beef and broccoli were separate which kept the flavors from overpowering each other. If I remember correctly, three of the dishes contained broccoli and in each case the broccoli greatly added to the dish without calling attention to it. The second thing that I noticed was the quality of the shrimp in the shrimp dish and the fried rice. In both cases the shrimp was perfectly prepared. After telling our daughter about our wonderful experience at CHI Chinese and Sushi Bar, we decided that we will return and try the Sushi Bar. read more

One of our new favorite places to visit in Bend. Sushi and American Chinese food in a beautiful space with amazing service. While the dishes are familiar for those of use who love to order american chinese food, they have a fresher, more flavorful and (at least to taste) healthier disposition. Check was given in a sneaky way because there was a 5% off offer hiding under the check and my husband already paid. He was refunded then the snarky waitress came back over after someone else had already refunded my husband and she said no it wasn't done and she proceeded to refund again! Never again will we go there. 5% off was offered if you pay cash. There were also rude girls at the counter when going out my husband said never one of the girls in a very immature way said see you never! That would have been a good time to ask what was the issue. Ate yummy food and drinks there for my anniversary a while ago. Ended up in the ER with allergic reaction. Allergist tested me for obvious foods. He suggested asking Chi for all ingredients I consumed so he could test me further. Chi refused to respond to my inquiries. Allergist said it was likely scombroid food poisoning from tuna not kept cold enough by the fishermen. I am disappointed Chi wouldn't respond to my inquiries. They should have helped me and my allergist out with ingredients and they should have offered to pay my ER expenses since their food made me extremely ill. read more

Ok so this place is super flashy on their decor but I was disappointed at some of the customer service and the taste of the food. This place really makes you feel you're in a fancy place specially with its prices but the quality isn't there. When I first got there I was greeted by the hostess which she was really nice and told me there was a wait. I asked if there was a bar and they sat me at the bar. I was ignored by the two bartenders for a good 10 mins after I was seated and it's not like it was busy. They would literally go over me to the people next to me! I did the stare and nope, didn't work. The people next to me had a dish I wanted to know what it was so I waved the bartender which he thought I was ordering and I said "no, I just want to know what that dish is" and he answers (spring rolls on a sweet sauce) and I ordered it. Finally the people next to me paid and left and I was still waiting on the full menu (yes, the bartender didn't give me one when I ordered) and he comes with my appetizer and asked if I was ready to order and I said no, I don't know what to get and he realized I didn't have a full menu . He gave me one and leaves me to explore. I decided to go with the noodles with bbq pork. The spring rolls were good and the lo mein too but the pork was so dry it hurt my mouth . Party of six, sushi/food was tasty, portions were smaller comparative and service was decent. However, they did run out of rice but did not inform us when delivering our main entrees. After waiting and then asking we were told they were making more and would bring it out. Waited for a while inquired again and was told it would be right out. Waited quite sometime and asked again...told that they forgot to bring the rice....oooops. Since our entrees were cold by this time we took it all to go as they didn't offer to reheat. We had a wonderful first time experience at CHI last Sunday. I have to admit, we were not very optimistic going in but left satisfied, happy and $100+ poorer as well. The decor and ambience was impressive. Food was fresh, well prepared and seriously delicious. We have a picky nigiri eater in our group and this is the only place in Bend that impressed her. So impressed she had 3 orders of Sake nigiri. Our server, Gina H was really nice helpful and very friendly. FYI, they have discontinued their happy hour until they are fully opened. Their prices for sushi/nigiri are a little higher than other places we have tried in town but I think it's worth it, quality wise (for special occasions). Very disappointing night. We had reservations and got seated. 20 minutes later the server took our order. The table next to us was seated at the same time, they ordered and got drinks within a few minutes. (Same server). 25 minutes later I asked about our food and the server was rude and said "you ordered sushi (one roll) and most people that eat here know that takes longer". Around us tables that showed up later were getting multiple plates of sushi. And the table next to us were done eating. The server walked past multiple times making eye contact, no update or checking in on us. We left without getting any food, 45 minutes of waiting. There is a reason you need a reservation. Best Chinese we've had in our lives, any city. We were there at 6pm Saturday with a reservation and there were lines out the door. Hands down every dish was phenomenal and came out piping hot. The decor and open ceilings makes a beautiful space. Our server was busy and prompt. The best drink I've had in years the delicious Peachy, citrusy, frothy "Golden Girls". We ordered the appetizer plate, the crab Rangoon was the best thing I have ate in years. The appetizer plate has 5 different items each with a perfect accompanying sauce. We ordered a sushi roll which was great. The main dishes that we ordered to note: Crispy Orange chicken, so crispy, excellent sauce, an absolute must and GF! Mongolian beef stir fry was perfect and the pork fried rice. Food, ambiance all good. However, tonight 6 of us 3 couples had dinner, visiting and having a good time. This visit to Chi was about our 5th time sharing a meal and drinks among friends. After eating and still having drinks the hostess came to our table and asked how long our conversation was going to continue? We were a little taken back . So after about 10 minutes we got up preparing to leave, still at our table, A young man swept in and started cleaning our table. On our way out we shared our concern with the hostess. This more like an Americanized Chinese restaurant with Sushi options. The Sashimi sampler was way too pricy, so I decided to order Something else. My picks were Saigon Spring Rolls and Twice-Cooked Pork Belly. The Vietnamese rolls was good, just the dipping sauce was slightly salty. The Twice-Cooked Pork Belly was prepared with cabbage, red pepper, scallion, Shitaki mushroom and carrots for stir frying. The flavor was okay and the sauce was kind of heavy. I've been going to Chi for several years but mostly only doing take out. I loved the almond cookies they put in with every order. However we had a family birthday dinner coming up and someone suggested Chi so my daughter in law made reservations. There were nine of us and they gave us a cute cove at the back of the restaurant. Christina was our server and she was awesome, nice personality, efficient & very attentive. This was the best meal I've ever had from Chi and everyone was happy with their selection. We started with drinks, they have a fun interesting selection of cocktails & then we ordered an appetizer plate for the table that was a perfect start. One of the best reasons to go to Chi is for the sushi and they did not disappoint. Four of our family members order the sushi and everyone was happy with the freshness & flavor of their selection and of course we had a large warm sake. You have got some nerve. 10 dollars for 3 spring rolls. Sesame chicken had a strange hot sauce like after taste (did not order spicy), soggy chicken not crispy. Mongolian beef was more like mongolian soup, grey bland beef in again a sauce that tasted like a hint of frank's red hot. BBQ pork lo mein was bland as hell. I came here for my birthday and loved it. So far, Chi is my favorite sushi place in Bend. There wasn't a lot of variety of sushi to choose from, but even the simple spicy tuna roll was flavorful. We forgot to make a reservation and the wait would have been just over an hour, so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender had a fun personality and gave us great service.
