This review is focused on the service, not the food. A couple of months ago, my wife, 4-year-old daughter, parents, and I dined here for lunch and ordered four dishes. Everything went smoothly until we finished our meal and paid the bill, leaving a 15% tip. As we were about to leave and get into our car, the owner approached us and asked my wife why we hadn't left an 18% tip. I was confused by this interaction as I was busy getting my daughter into her car seat. My wife explained that he was asking for a higher tip. His rude and abrupt demeanor left us feeling uncomfortable, and his comment, "That's fine, whatever," only added to our confusion and sense of being talked down to. We left the restaurant feeling humiliated. While I never want to speak ill of a business, especially during tough times, I will not be returning to this restaurant due to how we were treated. read more

Went here to catch up with a friend and we were told to speak quieter. There were only two other tables far from us and we weren't even that loud. I have been to far louder and robust Korean restaurants so it just seemed odd for the owner to ask us to tone it down. Outside of Koreatown, Los Angeles, they have really good, authentic Korean food and fairly fast service. There are plenty of seats when they don't have peak rushes, which might cause a bit of a wait, and the environment is friendly. Miso had been open for a while. We have been patrons from an earlier sister restaurant: Choi ga nei. The Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste soup) at Choi ga nei, was brilliant and the best I'd ever have. An amazing restaurant. The service here is great; the servers are super sweet and patient, and they offered me and my sisters free gummy bear packets which was really kind of them. I went here months ago, and wanted to try it since I didnt want to drive to K-Town. This place is quite a bit closer traffic-wise and easier to park. I went here at 12pm on a weekend, and it was nearly packed. They had 2 tables outside and I decided to eat there. The place gave good value for a Tofu Stew and BBQ combo, and the bonchons were good and refilled. They have quick service, decent parking in front & behind them, and good food! I love this place more than the other tofu places in the city. This place might be the most underrated Korean restaurant in La Crescenta. First of all, their menu covers such a wide variety of Korean food and they're like ALL good. The ones I'll point out are their cold noodles and tripe hot pot. They pull their own noodles and the broth is excellent. It reminded me of the times when I had it in Korea in the summers with my family. The tripe hot pot is also the best I've had, like better than in ktown. They use the spicy beef soup base and the tripe comes out sooooo soft. Also, the service is great because of how personable they are. It was very surprising to see that there was the masago eggs (tiny orange eggs you usually find at sushi restaurants). It was a nice surprise and gave the whole meal a nice texture and taste. It comes with gochujang (spicy red sauce) on the side, so you can make your meal spicy. Be sure to give the whole thing a mix and press the food down onto the hot stone so that at the end you have a nice crunchy surprise. - Pork Cutlet $13. 5/5 Oh man, the portion is HUGE. This is great because it matches the price. Sure, the actual pork is pretty thin, but it comes in huge pieces and the taste and texture of the batter is superb. Its light and almost fluffy like and has a nice crisp bite to it. The tonkatsu (pork cutlet) sauce they give on the side is not too overwhelming and has a nice subtle taste. This comes with rice and salad. The side dishes here are good. Its unlimited refills so eat as much as your heart desires. Parking here sucks. It's free, but the space is small and narrow. read more

You don't always have to go to Koreatown to get amazing Korean food with so many options in LA, and this is one of my new favorites! Super affordable with massive servings of delicious stuff. Both my friend and I went heavy on the seafood--I got spicy seafood noodles and she got a grilled mackerel + tofu soup combo--and both were excellent. The restaurant isn't super large but nice and cosy, and the staff is so kind and attentive. It's easy to drive past it on the street, so keep your eyes peeled, and know that the parking behind the building is NOT for the restaurant, so don't get trapped back there. No matter where you park, I promise it will be easier than trying to park in Koreatown. read more

As if the picture doesn't speak for itself, this was one of the BEST meals my bestie and I have ever had. We wanted to try this tiny spot since we pass by it all the time, and we both love tofu. This was our first time trying such a meal, but our server was so amazing and showed us the ropes. The purple rice was delicious, the kimchi was sour and crisp, and the broth was sizzling hot and rich! We were instructed to crack the raw eggs that come with our meal into our boiling hot bowls where they cooked in the creamy broth that we still dream about. I've driven past this restaurant so many times since it's really close to me- but never gave it a go until now. I usually gravitate towards the other Korean restaurants towards LC but I'll definitely frequent Miso more now. The kalbi jjim is out of the world! I gotta admit- the kalbi pieces aren't super big and could have some more meat on them. However it is cooked really well so that you don't get that bad grimy after taste that some places have. The marinade is ammmmmmaaazing. It would be awesome if they offered to make bokkeum bap after they finish the kalbi jjim! The kids got the udon + donkatsu combo and it was the perfect amount for them. Udon is peppery so some kids might find it a bit spicy? but my kids loved it! I was really looking forward to the clam knife cut noodles here because I was told it was good. And the broth was good! But unfortunately, that's about it. Their menu reads "hand made kkal guk soo" but it was glaringly obvious they were generic store bought ones. Onto the clams.. when the dish came out, it looked pretty nice with a generous portion. The clams however, tasted old. Worst of all.. they were not cleaned properly so there were sandy and gritty! Thought maybe I got a bad one, and tested a few more out and they were all pretty much the same. So was unable to eat the clams (the main part of the dish). Unluckily for us, we both ordered the clam noodles. One dish was barely touched because of sandy it was.. I was worried about health repercussions at this point. No one came to check on us or ask how the food was. So had to get up and personally notify the owner of how sandy the clams were.. to which he quickly apologized. But no offer to fix it, no chat with the kitchen, nothing. As we left, he again said "sorry!" but not actually doing anything about it. $20 for some clam broth with generic store bought noods and veggie slivers is steep. That times two was certainly money down the drain. I know to stay clear of this place now, especially with the mediocre "service" where they don't seem to care about the customer experience but would rather make a quick buck. LCR is a bit off the beaten track for really good Korean food, despite there being a large Korean population living there. There has been many a tofu house along Foothill that has come and gone since I grew up here... However, Miso really exceeded all of my expectations for both quality and quantity. I came here with my husband for lunch on a Sunday while visiting family and when we walked in we saw the owners who look like a couple (reminded me of my parents tbh :') working hard, packing take out boxes and diligently folding napkins. We got the kimchi soondubu and dumpling soondubu/galbi combo. Prices are obviously going to be a little higher in this part of town but the quality was outstanding - plus it saves us a drive to LA and with these gas prices, I think it's worth it?! Soup was hearty, tasty, and had a generous amount of meat, kimchi, and tofu. But let's talk about the galbi. If we're being totally honest, I'm used to getting maybe 5-6 solid pieces of rib with some smaller scraps of meat. I understand prices and cost of doing business are going up. However, my husband and I were really impressed with how much meat we got. Their presentation is a little bit different because they have a large rib on the plate with all the meat pre cut once it's grilled. But there was so much meat - and not just all the grisly or fatty pieces. It was also super tasty and just slightly charred the way I love it. This will be our go to spot when we're in the area! Wow. Came here for Father's Day with the parentals, and first and foremost, their food overall is okay, not bad (we got 3 SoonDuBoos and 1 Galbi/SoonDuBoo Combo). What Went Wrong: - Mostly fat on the Galbi - They got 3 out of 4 orders wrong!!! At first, when the first order came out wrong, we thought it's fine, it happens. But when the next 2 orders came out wrong, I couldn't help but say "What the..." Two other tables around us also had their orders mixed up. We tried to send the orders back, but the chef and the owner would not allow it and became defensive. No apologies from them either, except the nice server who had to hear an earful from me. It's loaded with mussels, squid, a couple of perfectly cooked shrimp and a chunk of soft- shell crab and noodles with the right chewy texture all in a savory red pepper soup. This is our go-to place since we moved to La Crescenta. Their food is always consistent, the owner seems to be such a hardworker gent. I never see him sitting down for a sec, he is always on the go. This place is really our family favorite and what we usually order is: - Donkatsu for the kids - Galbi combo with seafood tofu soup for me and oldest daughter Or galbi jjim if we are in a large group or simply craving if! Some friends of mine come to LC just to have this spicy galbi jjim. Im not lying. Driving 45 min from ktown to LC is how good it is. Also the ajossi (staff/gentleman) is always so nice to my kids!!!! There is a surprise lollipop always waiting for them at the end of each visit. Such a nice hardworking staff. Its 3 min from home, so this became our staple. As a Korean and a born-to-be foodie, I do not give 5 stars to Korean food or restaurant that easy. But Miso (I wish they put up a BIG sign of their name outside) easily earn 5+stars on their food & service. From their soups to seafood to meat dishes, EVERYTHING on the menu is WONDERFULLY GOOD!!! Even their banchans are decent and clean. My favorites are: Gal-bi-jjim (either spicy or original sauce), Gal-chi/grilled fish, and any of tofu combos (Galbi combo is the best!). But seriously, everything is so good and they have over 50 main korean entrées. No wonder my dad and his golf buddies come to Miso after their golf roundings every week. Even my bf who lives in koreatown (floods of Korean restaurants in walking distance) comes all the way to La Crescenta to devour Miso's Korean dishes. I ordered a yukgaejjang because I was craving it but it wasn't what I expected. They put a couple of sliced pieces of beef and called it yukgaejjang. I expected shredded beef with spicy soup but the soup itself was also very bland with lots of bean sprouts. I stopped by Miso Tofu BBQ after church today! The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Tteokbokki and the Stir-Fried Spicy Pork with Vegetables and Tofu Soup, this was more than enough for my friend and I because side dishes are also included! The food itself was very delicious and satisfying. The service on the other hand, not so much. The waiters/workers who worked the front are older Korean people, and although they work hard the service is not up to par with their food. I felt rushed when ordering because they kept asking us every 2 minutes for about 3 times in a row. Although I do usually deduct stars for terrible/poor service, I was more satisfied with the food I had ordered and forgot about the incident. The aesthetic of the environment is small and petite. It was heavily raining that day so they had buckets on the ground to catch water from the ceiling... might not want the health inspector to see that, but I didn't mind. I'm generally understanding when it comes to things like that for small businesses. Overall, I'd recommend this place for any Korean food lovers out there! Have been a fan of this establishment for years, until Easter Sunday. Admittedly, the food has consistently met our expectations, which is why we've remained patrons. However, the atmosphere falls short, reminiscent of budget eateries found in Chinatown. As for the service, it's always been passable at best. On our last visit, the wait staff (maybe the manager or owner) took our order and when we were done he said, "Order more". What? Really? Why? We had already ordered an entrée for each person in our group. This interaction left me feeling unwelcome and undervalued. Needless to say, we won't be returning...ever. read more
