We visited on Christmas Day and were so grateful they were open! While running errands at the Pavilions next door for holiday dinner supplies, we decided to stop in for lunch. I've always loved soft tofu soup (Soon-tofu), and while I've recently decided to learn how to make it myself, this was a wonderful way to enjoy it professionally prepared one last time. Everything was excellent. The variety of side dishes (banchan) was impressive--each one was fresh and flavorful. The soft tofu soup itself was perfectly seasoned and hit the spot. A highlight was definitely the stone pot rice; it was cooked to perfection, leaving that delicious, toasted rice crust at the bottom for a perfect crunchy finish.

C4 Spicy pork + Soondubu (pork) + Rice ($31.99): Spicy pork had a nice sweet-spice kick, soup piping hot, and rice bouncy and light.

Cho Dang is a great take on the classics. The marinated spicy pork anchored the meal, but the banchan kept the show interesting. There's the spicy tang of the kimchi, snap of the sesame oil-covered bean sprouts, and satisfying salty-sweetness of the chili-soy tofu, I definitely got seconds (and thirds haha). If driving to K-town for some good soondubu sounds like a bad time, I'd recommend trying this spot out. - Parking is plentiful (and free!) - Service is direct, but kind. I waited 15 minutes for my order. Here's what I ordered: C4 Spicy Pork + Soondubu (pork) + Rice ($31.99): Really enjoyed. Spicy pork had a nice sweet-spice kick, soup piping hot with just the right amount of kick, and rice bouncy and light. Grand total: $40.82

Sadly I agree with the 3 star reviews. Craving Korean tofu soup but didn't want to schlep down to K-Town or South Bay, and my favorite Ko Hyang Tofu House in San Gabriel recently closed. I figured any restaurant with the "Cho Dang" name must be good, right? Wrong. The side dishes -- they only have 4 -- are just OK, except for the very salty kimchee. The combination meals consist of a tofu soup and an entree in half-portion. The half-portions are unusually small for the price ($35). All the other K-restaurants I know offer normal portions in their combo meals. But how did my seafood tofu soup taste? Quite watery and bland. There's not a lot of tofu and even less seafood. Service is typical Asian - brusque and efficient. I hate to give 2 stars. But it is what it is. Sometimes it's worth driving the distance for great food, and La Cañada/Pasadena is not known for great Korean food.

    Croaker. Crispy outside moist inside!

As a Korean I can say that their food is great. Good Tofu soup and perfectly cooked fish every time. The Asian (mom-like) ladies are quick and sweet, I never understood why this place had less than 4 stars. Highly recommend getting the stone pot rice instead of the bowl rice!

This is the teriyaki plate. I got no teriyaki sauce.

I ordered for takeout. I ordered their chicken teriyaki. It was pretty pricey. I got home and sat down to eat. And there was no teriyaki sauce. I called the restaurant, the waitress who took my order originally answered. She says that the chicken teriyaki does not comment teriyaki sauce. How is that possible? She also stated that it's cooked in the sauce teriyaki sauce. The chicken already has the teriyaki sauce but to be quite honest you the chicken is dry. All she had to say "Sorry. " I think for me, because the experience for me was bad. I don't think I would ever return.

Careful here absolute fak heads. Fakkking livid. Ordered kimchi tofu beef. Got no meat at all. Ordered 3 days before this for my wife and she complained hardly any beef. Paid $20 with the tip for a pick up order of damn soup with very little kimchi and no meat. WTF ... you guys absolutely suck at your job, pathetic.

The beed was delivered on top of cold raw onions. I wish it was slightly grilled. Hot iron plate was not hot.

I go to korean restaurant often so I have seen some bad service which I typically shrug off. But this place has a server that is so rude that other diners felt sorry for us. We had a party of 8, and this server would not serve us. I wanted to get a water bottle replaced, so when the server came to give us our rice, i asked "Excuse me...".... She quickly yells back "One sec" throws the 8 bowls of rice on our table, and then goes back for the ban chan. So i thought after serving the ban chan, she could help us. I ask again, "excuse me"... she again yells back "one sec" and then heads off to serve ban chan to another table. So I patiently wait for her to come back. As she pushed her now empty cart, i ask "excuse me" for a third time. For a third time, she says "One sec". She never even lets me tell her what I need. She leaves and never comes back.... So I just hold the empty water bottle above my head until one of the servers remembered to help us... just to get water. When the food came, service got even worse. As the same server came to bring the food, she yells out "regular beef"!! We had no idea what she was saying. And she got impatient and just started putting the dishes down in front of random people. She goes to the other side of the table and yells "Regular combo!" We couldnt understand if she meant combo meal or combo tofu. Our table had multiple people order both. And we asked, what does "Regular" mean? And she respond with the nastiest look and just plops the dishes in front of people and we just swapped dishes and figured it out ourselves. Even people from other tables were giving us sympathetic looks. We ordered plain, mild, and spicy tofu. So we had no idea what she was delivering. There is no "regular". We understood later she meant "mild"beef tofu. We were so afraid of the server that we didn't ask for anything else or just asked it from the other server. Even the other server said "sorry" to us because she could see everyone looking at us and that we were giving each other looks to just stop asking for help. The last reason why I give this place a one star is when I went to the bathroom, the soap dispenser was either empty or was not working. How are the employees washing their hands after they use the restaurant. I was done. That was my first and last time going to that restaurant. The food was ok, but nothing special enough to deal with that bad service. Go to the many other choices in the area. These people obviously do not value your patronage.

Spicy pork combo with beef tofu soup!

This little spot in La Crescenta/Montrose has served my friends and me many a comforting bowl of steaming hot soondubu over the past winter! As a big fan of BCD Tofu House in Koreatown, it's great to have this place located in a much more convenient and accessible location when the mood strikes for that tasty tofu soup and little bowls of banchan. Located in a plaza next to the Vons, there is no shortage of free parking in the sizable parking lot. Once inside, you'll be greeted by a couple of older Korean ladies that instantly makes you feel like their food is going to be authentic and delicious--and it is! I often opt for their beef or pork tofu soup with medium spice and white rice. There is an extra charge for stone pot rice if you're feeling a little fancy. If you're feeling really hungry, there are combos available with tofu soup and meat (spicy pork and beef bulgogi are favorites!). The seafood pancake is also crispy and delicious, and the banchan dishes, while only a few, are tasty and refillable if you ask one of the nice servers. As a pro tip, be sure to look at their hours of operation before heading over. They are closed on Tuesdays and close promptly at 9, meaning if you come in hoping to be served at 8:30pm, they may turn you away, unfortunately. This place has seemingly grown in popularity over this past winter, but I haven't experienced any long waiting times yet. There is an outdoor patio seating area and food is available to go as well. Unfortunately, prices have gone up recently, like most things, which prevents me from giving this spot the full 5 star treatment. Tofu soup and rice will run you almost $20 with tax and tip, and expect to pay $30 plus tax and tip for the combo with meat.

Beer bibimbap (could use more meat for the price)

Grabbed a quick dinner tonight and haven't been here in years. The service was nice and quick, and it reminded me of some of the restaurants I tried in Korea, as it felt very authentic. The waitress was nice and I enjoyed the large portions of sides. The ordered the beef bibimbap and enjoyed it, but was pretty skimpy with the meat, and was mostly rice. It didn't taste bad but the price felt steep for it being mainly a rice dish. I'd definitely come back, but will order something else.

It's good but you shouldn't be expecting ktown. You know what you're getting by coming here- with that being said the service has always been great and accommodating. As for the food, there are good stuff and some stuff i would just stay away from. Most of the meat dishes are good, the korean pancakes are generally good as well. I would not recommend getting the yukgaejang. Get the usual stuff like soontdoobu and galbi with korean pancakes

As we're getting back into soup season, Cho Dang is def one of my go-to spots! All of their tofu soups are delish, but my faves have to be their Beef Tofu Soup and their Dumpling Tofu Soup! They come with rice, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts and seaweed. I think their veggies change depending on what they have in store, but they are all yummy! The past couple times I've ordered the Hot Stone Pot Bibimbap - beef, rice, veggies and chili sauce. Love how crispy the rice gets in a stone pot and the gochujang sauce really makes it! Utensils, ice water and hot tea are all on the table and don't forget their coffee machine on the way out! I just tried the black bean latte and it was delightful!

A little pricey but probably the best or second soondubu in La Crescenta. The banchan here isn't as good as MISO, but overall still hits the spot

Spacious/clean, easy parking, individual pots, fresh meat/ingredients, and a wonderful staff all make this worth coming back to again and again. You get your choice of two dipping sauces (it's nice to see two other offerings besides standard ponzu and goma) and you can make the broth to your tasting with two squeeze bottles at each station (staff was also kind to help me the first time). You get to choose two sauces and the sauces are refillable. So if you're going with someone else and you want more dips. Then you can both get four different ones to share.
