What I was disappointed with is that you would allow me to select the coffee cake I wanted even though I should be able to choose if I am paying for it. I was told that the coffee cake has to stay balanced and I couldn't pick the slice from the bottom. And you put both items in the same container. I really want to love this place. I have been in about 3 times in as many years and each time it's always felt like I am bothering whoever is working behind the counter. It's never even the same person who seems distracted, bothered or annoyed at my simple order and it was also the owner once. Not sure what that is about. Their instagram posts eventually draw me in and they seem bubbly and friendly on social media, then I walk in and there is not even eye contact. The lady serving me was very sweet! I came for the brownie due to a really bad craving. She asked if I wanted an edge or center piece, which was a nice bonus! Since the brownie was delicate, it had broken off. She gave me one half of the surviving brownie and another whole piece! It was $5 at the time of my purchase. As for the brownie, it's a slice that is as large as my hand! Very dark chocolatey, with just the right amount of sweetness plus a little more. The amount of chocolate in the batter with the soft chips in it satisfied my chocolate craving. It is soft in a Lofthouse sugar cookie kind of way. This is one of my mother-in-law's favorite bakeries. She lives in South Orange County and often makes the drive out whenever she hosts parties and wants to have cupcakes available. I've tried a number of cupcakes (via MIL's parties) and they are all so good: moist, sweet, fresh, delicate.... I'm currently living in Reno, NV and my MIL decided to stop by Miss Priss before hoping on a plane out of Long Beach to bring some cupcakes with her for her most recent visit. They recently moved a couple doors down, I'm guessing it gave them more room in the back for baking. I did not feel the homey feeling that the previous site had with the squeaky wooden door, like at grannies house. I also felt there was a lot of unused space of the new location. Perhaps, they are not finished decorating. Regardless, you are there for the cupcakes after all. We always loved their flavor options, their iridescent buttercream, and how you could purchase minis to experiment. A dozen mini's will cost you $18. I have always loved the citrus selection of orange, lemon and lime. This time it was National Chocolate Cupcake Day so had to have chocolate in the mix. The reason I am giving Miss Press four versus five stars on this visit as these were always the most moist cupcakes anywhere, it was one reason we loved them, but on this Friday am this was not the case. The pretty irridescent toppings were nowhere in site either. But the cute toppings they do are always a delight, mini cookies, a slice of orange candy, etc. I guess we have always been keen on consistency and maybe some things were not in full operation with the new move. My mom and I randomly stopped here because the coffee shop a couple doors down was out of pastries, and I can't believe we overlooked this place the whole time. We tried the paradise cake slice and the mini lemon cupcake. Fresh, tasty, and the perfect amount of sweetness. The lemon cupcake was super good too!! Let me preface this by saying that Susie was very nice and professional, however, my son's birthday party was almost ruined but they managed to pull it off. I had ordered a simple, basic 4 color scheme and showed up the day of the party and was given something entirely different. I'm not just taking colours, I'm talking different planets. But Susie had them remade and I was able to pick them up later that day, maybe I'm being unreasonable but I had already made a schedule for that day and was pretty busy and this was a major inconvenience come back here. This review has absolutely nothing to do with the cupcakes and everything to do with service. I have waited over a year to write this because I was so upset. They moved to a bigger location a few doors down from the original shop. It was my first visit to the new location. I stopped on my way to a party for a kid. The door had tons of signs on it. Saying new location, etc. I opened the door and it was extremely heavy. I hadn't even made it inside before the woman yelled "Watch out for the door!" Next thing I know, the door slammed into me, caught my sandal and I flew to the ground. My purse flew to the floor, all my contents scattering, I was on my face and hands. My shoe was completely stuck under the door. The employee came out and starts pulling my arms to get me up. My outfit was filthy from the floor. My shoe was completely ruined. The strap tore off. They were brand new! She is yelling at me, saying the door says pull, you pushed! I didn't see a push or pull sign. Also, in my experience, a door will only open one way! I was so shaken up and upset, I was starting to tear up. I got up, picked up all my purse contents and went through with my order and left. I ended up having to go home. I had to change my clothes, get a new pair of shoes, wipe my tears, clean my bleeding knee and palms! After the shock wore off, I was furious. Her callous, uncaring, unapologetic demeanor was unreal. I have never been back. I will never return. Cupcake shops are a dime a dozen. Blaming a customer for your faulty door and having a complete lack of empathy is completely unprofessional. read more
