Its taken me three long years to get here, but by golly, I did it. Let me tell you, the last thirty minutes were the worst part. You see, my friend has worked at Miss Shirley's since high school and since meeting in college, I always hear about this place. Driving through Baltimore, I needed to go and get it crossed off my bucketlist once and for all. We showed up hoping the brunch rush would be done, but still had a bit of a wait. Despite my grumbling tummy, I took a deep breath, looked away from Roland Park Bagels tempting me across the street, and convinced myself I could, and must, power through. I've been deciding what I wanted to get here for over two years now. It's a huge decision. What if I choose the wrong thing? This could be my last chance. The waitress was obviously flustered after working a very busy Sunday morning shift, but once we caught her attention I went with my gut and got the Neapolitan Stack. It was a great (and amazingly plated) choice but the star of the meal were the sweet potato fries with mango ketchup. I could've ate those, left, and felt accomplished. I tried some of my friend's cinnamon danish waffles which were amazing as well. While I love my roomie enough to see her in Baltimore based on friendship alone, knowing this place would be a go-to spot for at least one meal may make me a little more anxious to visit sooner than later! read more

If you've heard of Miss Shirley's before, then you already know its amazing. Well, I'm here to confirm what you already know because I just went for the second time and, yes, it was amazing. We arrived for lunch and was told to expect about a 45 minute wait for a table, but got seated almost immediately. All the staff was very pleasant and friendly. We started off with the monkey bread as an appetizer, which tasted like a dessert even if you didn't use the chocolate drizzle. I got the Benne Seed Chicken 'N Waffles for my entree and was pleased with their approach to go the more savory/spicy route with the dish instead of sweet. Okay so apparently this is a LEGENDARY food spot in Baltimore. Although I don't know about the history, I can confirm that the food does set this place apart from the pack. The menu here is black/southern inspired (eggs , grits , crab cakes, etc) but with a maximalist twist. For example, I had a fried chicken, biscuit and gravy omelette. It was REALLY good, decadent you might say. My only regret from my experience here was I didn't try more. We couldn't come near Baltimore without trying Miss Shirley's! We arrived a little after 10 AM and only waited about 10 minutes. We ordered lots of food and the food was good. I am only giving 4 stars because the waitress kept making reference to the amount of food we ordered and the refills took a while. The bbq chicken fried deviled eggs are a MUST! Be mindful that you only get 4! The chicken and waffles were good. The chicken was seasoned well. The collard greens were seasoned very well. The restaurant offers lots of parking but the lots were packed. So be prepared to use the metered parking. read more

Great breakfast and friendly staff. We ordered shrimp and grits, fried chicken and green onion waffles, and the spicy Shirley (not pictured) which is their version of a bloody Mary. The bloody Mary wasn't spicy and needed more kick. The food was outstanding and the portions are huge. It is a bit pricey but I think it's worth it for a nice splurge. Would go back again to try their famous breakfast sandwich (bacon, fried green tomato). I will skip the bloody Mary next time and just go for a coffee. read more

I came in route to an appointment I decided I'd stop here so I can at least have a place to sit and collect my thoughts I ordered collar greens with a little ham in it and stoneground grits which had been seasoned with cream and marscopne and bacon and then garnished with tomatoes Both of the small side dishes or just wonderful the flavor seasoning in the presentation sure a lot of culinary imagination I would recommend this place to anyone and I would come back the only drawback is I found the decor and the server uniforms to be indicative of a early American cafeteria service but I'll overlook that in the future it's a bit pricey but the food is wonderful read more

Saw this place on Yelp suggestions for nearby breakfast places and their coconut cream stuffed pancakes immediately caught my eye. Came down here for breakfast on a weekday morning. They open at 7am and by 7:03, they were bustling with customers. I started off with a freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and had the coconut cream French toast. I didn't expect the French toast to be so humongous! It had a generous amount of coconut cream which was delicious. The portion size felt ridiculously large considering the super rich coconut cream it was served with. Had I finished the whole thing, I probably would have lost an eye or a limb. I could have been happier with a half of the portion size and half the price. The quality of the food and their Service were excellent! I will return to try their menu again, will stick with savory dishes next time. They have plenty of seating, I mean really plenty! It is a big place. They have ample parking too. read more

So where do I begin?! I wasn't sure what to expect but I was super impressed. It was a well rounded experience from the service, to the food to the atmosphere. My friends had this place at the top of their list from watching the Food Network and I totally see why! Appetizers listed were cool and all the food had funky names to go with their descriptions. My table had the BBQ Chicken Deviled Eggs for starters and I blinked they were gone. Not much time passed before our entrees showed up and again didn't disappoint. The shrimp and grits were bomb! The pancakes were cooked to perfection. Fried green tomatoes were amazing. Everything for the most part was great. Overall...great! I seriously wish I could eat more and try more. Had breakfast here for the first time this morning and I have to say I am super impressed. Everything was phenomenal. I'll start with the drinks- amazing coffee from a local roaster, and excellent cocktails. We both had the Wake Up Call which is like an iced mocha-highly recommend! My daughter also had a strawberry lemonade which she says was very good. We started off with the monkey bread which was delicious and decadent. It's a very large portion, so brought about half home. For the entrees-I had an omelet that had fried chicken pieces, peppers, and comes topped with a biscuit and gravy and a side of grits. The omelette was very good as was the biscuit and gravy, and I am very picky when it comes to biscuits and gravy. Suffice to say this gravy is legit. My companion had the crab cake egg sandwich(can't recall the name). It looked amazing and she said it was very good. I may order that next time. Absolutely delicious meal, fantastic service, and a great atmosphere. This is a great place for breakfast or lunch, or if your like me, lunch at breakfast time. The creativity and flavor combinations make every dish look and taste amazing. We planned to share a couple starters and ended up ordering and sharing some awesome dishes. Our starters each had a unique take on a traditional item, offering comfort food with pizzazz. I think the Benne Seed Chicken N Waffles (with the Honey Mustard Aioli on the side) was my favorite of our entrees, but I really enjoyed the sausage gravy, the grits with bacon, and I was very impressed by the roasted corn emulsion from Get Your Grits On dish; it was sweet corn at its best, and they could serve that as a soup! Miss Shirley's is one thing I'll miss about going to grad school in Baltimore. As one of the few places open earlier on the weekend for breakfast (I'm not a big bruncher-I prefer a full 3 meals a day, thank you very much), this location is perfect to get away from the downtown tourist rush at the other location but still get a really impressive breakfast. I typically go for an omelette with brie and veggies since it's rare to even see brie as a filling option. The everything biscuit that comes with it is a truly mystical beast. It has clusters of cream cheese baked into its fluffy dough, which makes each bite different from the next. Since someone at the table usually orders the French toast, I end up getting a bite or two because no one can ever finish it. Not only is the French toast gigantic, it comes stuffed with various fillings (depending on what the specials are too.) My main recommendation is: come early and with an appetite! I don't think you could go wrong ordering anything off the menu, they know their way around breakfast! read more

You know that a restaurant is good when you randomly think about its food sometimes (even months after) and say "damn, that was good." This is how i feel about Miss shirley's - i had a wonderful brunch with my friends there last August, and i couldn't get over how amazing all of its dishes were to the extent where i'm compelled to write this review months after my visit. I've had many good brunches in my life, but of all the restaurants i've been to for brunch, Miss shirley's really takes the cake. We ordered/shared four different dishes under the House Favorites on the menu, and loved every single bite of every one of them. The portions are huge, so i strongly recommend doing what we did and going with a group of friends and sharing everything. We had the benne seed chicken 'n waffles (best chicken and waffles i've ever had), soft shell crab & succotash eggs benedict (amazing), crab cake & fried green tomato eggs benedict (tried fried green tomatos for the first time and loved it), and coconut cream stuffed french toast (heavenly). We shared 4 dishes among the 4 of us, and we were stuffed when we finished all of the dishes (and all of our plates were impeccably clean). I live in DC but i'm willing to do a weekend day trip to baltimore just to go to Miss shirley's again. Most absolutely recommended and will definitely return!! read more

Really more of a landmark than anything else. Right, hon? I've been to two Miss Shirley's locations -- Downton and Roland Park. It's typically busy as anything, especially if events are going on in the area. If you like breakfast this is your place. It's good. Not GREAT. At the Roland Park location I remember standing with my group waiting for our table for, what seemed like, hours. The space for waiting customers could serve a much better purpose. The service was terrific. Fun even. The food came out fast and was tasty. Miss Shirleys is doing a great job during the pandemic. I was offered a seat outside with a good amount of space between other dinners. The service was awesome. They wore masks and gloves while social distancing. They were very attentive. Being outside sometimes causes us to get forgotten. The menu has a good amount of options. I am trying to stay healthy so i ordererd a Californian grilled BLT on multigrain bread. It normally comes on ciabatta bread. I also went with the side salad with some sort of vinaigrette dressing. It had just the right amount of dressing. The price is a tad high for a sandwich but it was good and the service was great. read more

Their service is quick, professional, and friendly. We had a waiter named Aaron. He's great. The drinks were strong and flavorful. The food is where I'd say the mediocracy begins. The hash browns were undercooked and bland. IHOP does a better job. The vegetable sandwich tasted like something I'd make during the week for lunch at work. It was underwhelming.
