A Maryland must go to brunch experience! Always look forward to Miss Shirley's when we can get in within a reasonable wait time. They don't take reservations, and lines can be long on weekends! Once you get in, though, it's good atmosphere, good food, and good times had by all even the kiddo. Drink and appetizer orders were taken right away after seating. Appetizers and drinks came out fast and hot or cold. So yummy. Fried green tomatoes were so loved we got two orders. Charm City Pit fire Deviled eggs were so good, and the touch of horseradish bbq sauce was refreshing. Very family friendly and accomodating! We were able to get a fruit bowl with only strawberries for the little one! And we were also able to get a separate cup of ice just in case! Mains came a bit uncoordinated as one in our party got served several minutes later than the rest of us, but he was able to enjoy his Spicy Shirley toppings during the wait. It's an appetizer salad in itself. Haha! We should have gotten the two eggs over easy instead of scrambled with cheese. The cheese was a bit overwhelming, having only come with one biscuit (starch to soak up the oils!). Next time, we'll have to remember to go light on the cheese. The pimento cheese biscuit NEVER disappoints. So flaky and fluffy but not greasy at all. The chicken and waffles are a must, and we were able to get waffles without green onions. Worth the wait! Came here with my friends for brunch. We put our name on the list at 10:55am and were seated at 12:10pm. We went to power plant live as we waited. We played jenga and grabbed a drink then headed over to brunch. There are so many things on their menu! There are little icons that indicate which entrees were featured on diners, drive ins and dives and which are their signature dishes. My friends loved the chicken and waffles, it's nice that the chicken isn't on the bone, much easier to eat. The jalapeño butter gave it a kick. Spent a beautiful morning outside at Miss Shirley's after hearing for heard for ages about how great this spot is. Even on a Wednesday morning there was still a bit of a wait, so anticipate a longer wait on weekends. There is a fairly expensive patio, as well as indoor seating. The menu is also just as expensive as the restaurant footprint and includes a lot of breakfast favorites as well as some classic items for Miss Shirley's. I started with the Brulé grapefruit. By far one of the healthiest things on the menu, however for five dollars it would've been nice to get both halves of the grapefruit. Nonetheless, I thought it was very good and something that you don't see often anymore. It was a really tough decision to decide on the main course. Finally landed on a chicken and waffles as this is one of the specialties there. The chicken was perfectly fried and crispy, three strips accompanied four miniature waffles. It was not sweet, but savory. The waffles had a cheddar cheese as well as a veggie flavored butter. The chicken had a sweet buttery glaze that I couldn't place. I am more of a traditionalist so I requested syrup on the side and together it was a pretty awesome breakfast! I picked up brunch items for carry-out. I'm really glad I did that since the place was packed when I arrived. It was hard to tell which line was for indoor and outdoor seating and which line was for to-go items. It was the same line. There were tons of people standing outside trying to get the attention of the servers and host for help. I had the Get Your Grits On. The portion was smaller than I expected but it was tasty. This is really a 3.5 star review, but I rounded up because it was so delicious! My son had the fried chicken sandwich -- I had the impossible burger, and our other guest had eggs and greens. I used to long for this place, especially because the 2-hour wait on weekends made it seem that much more desirable. I finally had the chance to try it out during a weekday for brunch when there was no wait. The service is great - everyone is friendly and attentive, but the food didn't *wow* me. I got the coconut cream stuffed french toast, and my mom got the Maryland Omelet w grits. The french toast was massive and a sight to see! The french toast itself was great, but the filling was cloyingly sweet. It was whipped cream speckled with sweetened coconut flakes that was lighter than frosting, but most definitely sweeter as well. I'm not sure what the side of maple sizzurp was for because that coconut cream was already maxed out with sugar. My mom enjoyed the omelet, which had nice amounts of crab, but it was just another good omelet. Grits were alright as well, but she did really like the biscuit. Maybe it was the lack of hustle & bustle, maybe it was my high expectations, maybe it was what we ordered, but when it came to the overall experience, I though it was just average. While I love the indoor decor & spaciousness of the Annapolis restaurant, it felt good to visit where it all started, in Baltimore. I came here with my husband for lunch while we were visiting in Baltimore because of all of the amazing reviews on yelp! Little did I know, this restaurant was also featured on "Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives!" When we came, it was later in the afternoon so it wasn't quite during peak hours, but there was still quite a bit of a wait. We put our names in up front and waited for about 20 minutes before we were seated. There is ample seating inside and no shortage of people waiting for tables! The service is very fast here though, so they get people in and out quickly. The restaurant is clean and the tables are pretty close together. We were immediately greeted by our server for beverages. We started with the pumpkin baked mini donuts with maple glaze, dried cranberries, pumpkin spice and powdered sugar. These were a delicious way to start the meal! Although a sweet dish, they weren't overly sweet and the pumpkin flavors went very well with the maple and cranberries. I thought it was a plus that they were baked and not fried--it made for a fresh and lighter snack than a fried donut. For lunch, I had the Fried Chicken, Biscuits and Gravy omelet with fried buttermilk chicken pieces, peppadews, green onion, white cheddar cheese and topped with a biscuit and chicken sausage gravy served with stone ground grits and bacon on the side. This dish was delicious and very savory. Even though the omelet should've been the star of the meal, I actually enjoyed the side of grits with diced bacon the most. The grits were buttery, tender, and savory all at the same time. They melted in my mouth! The omelet was very tasty, but extremely rich in my opinion. I thought it could've used a bit more chicken and a little less cheese (can you have too much cheese though?) All in all, it was very good. Overall, very tasty food in a great location! I can't say enough great things! 1. There was a line when we got there but I appreciated that they take your number and text you when your table is ready so you can go walk around. They also texted us 20 min earlier than originally quoted! 2. They were so kid-friendly! They helped us with our stroller, they have the cutest activity mats for kids to color and do all kinds of puzzles and our waitress said they have a "kid" button in their system to make things less spicy and more kid-friendly. 3. Every time I go to Miss Shirley's, I enjoy the food. For breakfast I just get the basics. I would get just two scrambled eggs, andouille sausage, small waffles, coffee, and orange juice. However, after church on Sunday's, I would go there to get Miss Shirley's Affair with Oscar. It's become my favorite dish there. The service is always very good too. I have one complaint. To me their hominy grits are way too stiff. I like them creamy in a bowl. I wish they would use a choice. Otherwise, Miss Shirley's is excellent place to eat. read more

Overall experience was not the greatest. First, I will start with the customer service which lacked terribly. One of my friend's brother arrived to the restaurant 2hours early to get our table of 7 on the waitlist for a table outside. He was told that would happen. When our full party arrived, we were seated inside with our party split. We were told that we could only sit inside and that our tables can only have 5 at a table. On top of that we couldn't move the two tables together. No one told us this when making the reservations. I understand following the restaurant covid protocols but everyone at the table was staying in the same house the entire weekend. We went for an important big bday this am for bfast so as long as she liked her meal That's what was important but...my omelet "make ur own" bacon which I asked for crispy was white/clear and fatty I couldn't even eat it just pulled it out. And my omelet was runny -watery I don't like that at all. Cheesy yes. Watery no good. I will say, when you go in person they take your number and put you on the list. My fiancé and I went right after our workouts near by to put our names in then we went back to our hotel, changed and got ready and didn't have that much longer to wait. However, I could see super long wait times at peak times (ours was 65 min around 12:30 on a saturday) The service was great, no issues what so ever. The food was by far worth it! We had the pull apart monkey bread for an appetizer then my fiancé and I shared the stuffed French toast because we really wanted to try them both! We were COMPLETEY stuffed from that plus our actual brunch food but it was totally worth it. The monkey bread was gooey and cooked to perfection. The stuffed French toast was such a unique dish too.
