Chorizo burgers are definitely more unique and I really liked the flavor and the grilled pineapple (I will always argue in favour of pineapple on burgers and pizzas). Came here for dinner when my friends and I were in town this past summer. There was a bit of a wait to get seated, so we sat outdoors with some cocktails. I decided to get a Blue Hawaii cocktail, which was beautifully presented to me. My friends also enjoyed their cocktails, and the time to wait for a table went by fairly quickly. We decided to share an order of their vegetarian baos, which were pretty good and surprisingly hearty. We asp shared an order of their tempura corn fritters, which were also hearty and tasty. I decided to get their jackfruit fried rice, which was unfortunately pretty lackluster. I felt like it needed something, perhaps more salt or soy sauce. This place was on my list to try out. The restaurant itself has a really cute vibe, waiters/waitresses are wearing hawaiian themed shirts. So this place is mainly known for their drinks because that's all I see on posts from people that have gone. Personally this place is expensive for no reason. The food was alright, and wasn't many things on the menu. We basically just shared what we got and then went to Craig's Cookies across the restaurant for dessert because this place didn't have dessert. I started with a pineapple and watermelon juice mock-tail. WHY WOULD THAT BE SPICY? It was not advertised to be spicy! From the face I made alone that should've been compt. We got the Kalua Pork Buns to start off. The meat was okay but the toppings where repulsive. Spicy and pickled pineapple and tomato's. A gross combo. Onto the mains. Someone with me got the Maui Kalbi Ribs. I'd like you to tell me where the meat is! All she received was a pile of bones and fat. Her side of rice was like wet cardboard mush with a hint of teriyaki. Her Macaroni salad was also overly spicy but according to her "at least semi edible". It reminded her of school lunch. Me and another companion got the Short Rib Loco Moco. The only thing Loco about it was the fact that it was NOT a Loco Moco. The short rib is was basically cheap fatty stew meat and the egg was fishy tasting. The rice did not have Loco Moco sauce on it but instead a strangely peppery and sour steak sauce. The Brussel sprouts and Mushrooms where both extremely over cooked. I think I've walked by this restaurant about half a dozen times. Saw some ladies who looked really festive having a good time and was super curious what this place could be. Then I recently saw a Facebook ad and it all clicked into place. For ten years I had been looking for a Hawaiian restaurant in Toronto. Settled for some Poke establishments. But I'm so super stoked that Miss Things popped up on my Facebook feed. The cocktails were all worth a shot - LOL. My favourite of them all was the Oolong All Night Long. It was spicy and just right to go with a festive birthday celebration. Warning - DO NOT GET THE RED WINE GRAPE CRUSH - IT IS NOT WINE. Favourite item: ALL THE DRINKS - I would rarely list a drink as my favourite item, but all the drinks I tried deserve a shoutout. I would definitely come back for the drinks which are all delicious, cutely decorated, and unique. My recommended drink is Electric Banana which has an authentic but not overpowering banana taste. Pineapple fried rice - this comes in a half pineapple with a thick enough layer of fruit you can actually eat. We ordered this with pork belly (huge slices btw), which was filling and delicious. Fried eggplant - these were perfectly fried (not soggy but also not too crispy) and so tasty! Short rib loco moco - soft ribs and a nicely cooked egg (slightly runny still) over a huge bed of veggies and rice. The flavours are not too strong and I didn't think there was anything too special about this dish. Worst place i have ever been for dinner. For both service and food. I went here for my friends birthday (Beware do not go in large groups they can not handle it). The chairs. do not even get me started. I have never been to a restaurant where i had to CLIMB onto the sofas because they were so HIGH. i'm not a short person i am 5'4 and i had to hop up there on the ledge. This would have been fine if i was sitting alone but our table is connected like a long table so everyone had to get off the stupid sofa just to go washroom and climb back up again. Why make seating like this!? have they even tried it!? Even sitting on it we all felt like we were half falling off because of the fabric. Now the food was ridiculously expensive. Yes they have got presentation on point, we got to try a few of their signature drinks as we all shared. Nothing stuck out to us except for how cute they would be for pictures. The food did not match the price point at all. I've tried better Chinese restaurants for a fraction of the price. They worked so hard on presentation they forgot about their quality of food. They figured people will just show up because their place is so instagrammable. And guess what? it worked. Thats what they gotta do. Their service was the absolute worst as well. We kept having to call over a waitress (more than one person) to come and take our order. She kept responding she will get our server. We were STARVING by the time our waitress came. When we ordered they somehow lost our order so a different person came to get our order. A male. No one asked us how our meal was, No one gave us water. No one came by to take away our food. I will never go back here again and do not recommend this place to anyone. There are much better places for that price point and employees that will treat you with more respect. Hawaiian-inspired atmosphere, decor, drinks & food makes this place the perfect choice for a GNO! I am surprised that I've never heard of this place before but am so glad my friend chose Miss Things. My friends and I were seated right away upon arrival. Most busy places still make you wait even though you have a reservation but it was very fast here, so we were off to a very good start! For food, we went with poke wonton tacos, Kalua bao, miso mussels and of course the pineapple fried rice. My favourite dish is definitely the pineapple fried rice. Everything about this dish complimented each other so well. I was expecting it to be very sweet because of the pineapples but the pork belly balanced it all out and made it very enjoyable. The aesthetics for this is also A1, it's served in a pineapple! This is definitely a must every visit LOL The other 3 dishes were good too but it didn't really stand out to me as much as the fried rice. The tacos are my second favourite, I love poke in general so having it served in a taco was a very nice and interesting touch. The bao looked a lot better than it tasted though, I'm not sure what it is but something was "missing" to give it that wow factor & my whole table agreed. The mussels were also very small and despite it being drenched in the sauce, it still tasted very plain. For drinks, I really regret not getting the more "insta-worthy" cocktails! My friends and I got very basic drinks so we basically just got drinks one regular cups..... well mine was in a pineapple cup but it was not as cute and unique as the other cocktails pictured on here.. I went to Miss Thing's with my best friend for dinner really excited for Asian Fusion/Hawaiian food that would be paired with fun tiki drinks but was incredibly underwhelmed. The best part of the experience was probably just the presentation of the drinks (not even the taste). Overall, the atmosphere felt lackluster with the restaurant and bar area lacking energy, feeling empty, and being very dimly lit DESPITE it being loud as hell with music practically blaring out of the speakers. For food, we ordered the pineapple fried rice and pork belly baos which were all pretty average. Presentation for the pineapple fried rice though was nice and had a large portion size for the price. The baos were the opposite in terms of average/below-average presentation with very small portions for their price. I felt full but not really satisfied. For drinks, we were excited by the menu that highlighted creative and unique cocktails with culturally relevant and fun names -- we ordered Becky with the Good Hair and Pretty in Pink. However, when we actually tasted our drinks we were disappointed. Both of them had the weirdest flavor combinations and the aftertaste was just very unpleasant (it wasn't even the taste of alcohol but just of a mix flavor profiles that did not go together). They were definitely strong (which was great considered we paid almost $15 each for these cocktails) but not at all enjoyable. Won't be coming back anytime soon unfortunately. read more

Though we'd had a bad experience a few years ago, Miss Thing's was nevertheless at the top of our list of restaurants to check out again - if only because the novelty of its menu and ambiance is fairly irresistible. (What's better than a tropical restaurant in the middle of November?) We arrived a little late for our reservation but were nevertheless shown to a quiet table near the front. (I will say, though, that the table next to us was a mere three inches away, so I was bracing myself to lose that privacy at some point. Thankfully it remained empty for the duration of our meal.) We decided to share three plates: Poke Wonton Tacos ("salmon, nori, pickled ginger, wasabi aioli, pineapple ginger tamari, sushi rice, crispy wontons"), Kalua Bao ("slow cooked kalua pork shoulder, teriyaki sauce, pineapple kimchi slaw"), and Pineapple Fried Rice ("with braised pork belly, pineapple, red peppers, sambal mayo"). First off, we received all three dishes at the same time. This was annoying for a multitude of reasons, including the fact that our tiny table was suddenly packed and that none of the dishes were hot. As for the food itself, all three dishes were good (but not great). The Kalua Bao was decent, but the bao itself tasted dry and stale, as if it had been sitting around for a while. The Pineapple Fried Rice was decent, but lacking in the bold flavors you might expect from such a dish. (The presentation on that one is a-one, at least, given that it arrives in half a pineapple.) The tacos were, again, tasty but nothing terribly mind-blowing. The drinks were quite good, however, and the service was top-notch. Located on Queen W, you can find this place by the pineapple on the door! The food is a contemporary version of Pan Asian/Hawaiian dishes as per their website. Having been to Hawaii several times I can attest that this is good food. We tried several different dishes to share - the pineapple fried rice, grilled octopus, chicken skewers, and grilled eggplant. Everything was delicious but the portions are small so keep that in mind if you are super hungry. The drinks are delicious and their names are hysterical (All night oolong; Maggie made me do it, acceptable in the 80s....LOL). My only one thing is that service is sloooooooooooooow. It's understandable because it is packed but if you come here super hungry just be prepared to wait. Might be a good idea to put your entire order in upfront to avoid further delays. I couldn't even cut the so called meat off of the bones to eat it, because it was so fatty. The rice had the consistency of paste. If you're ordering a bunch of other apps, then this is definitely shareable. But if you're just with maybe 1 other person, you may just want to keep this for yourself especially if you love eggplant as much as I do. Though fried, it wasn't greasy at all. 5/5. Kalua Bao - So, if you're Filipino and you love pork siopao, then you NEED to try this. It is as good, if not better, than the best pork siopao you can find. The bao was so fluffy it was like eating a marshmallow. the kalua pork was so full of flavour and was cooked to perfection. The bao is garnished with green onions and a pineapple kimchi slaw so your mouth was literally bursting with so much flavour. Definitely a shareable portion as it comes with 3 baos, or you can honestly even have it as an entrè if you're not a big big eater. Short Rib Loco Moco - I watch DDD so much that I've been dying to have loco moco for some time now so of course when I saw this on their menu, I just had to try it. Bradda, one of the best you'll ever have. The order takes a little longer but trust me, it's worth the wait. The short rib was oh so tender that it melts in your mouth. I would go back just for this. Because we had a lot of apps, I was only able to eat half of it so I'm very much looking forward to eating the rest. So yes, the portion too is very generous. I came down with some serious itis after this meal. 5/5. Opakapaka - If you don't mind eating a whole fish with the bone-in, then this is another dish you need to try. That coconut papaya broth!! Lawd. To give you an idea, if you like dishes like khao soi or Thai red curry, then you will LOVE this dish. I also personally love red snapper and it was perfectly fried. Again, not greasy. 5/5. Mochi Fried Chicken - Love me some fried chicken but to be quite honest, I wasn't expecting much out of this one. Only because if you look at the rest of the menu, you get so overwhelmed with the authentic dishes and then you see fried chicken. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. All the dishes here are amazing I can't say more great things. I only wish the service was as good as the food. I came here this past Thursday to celebrate my friends birthday, and we were shocked at how disorganized the servers were. Maybe they were under staffed, I don't know? Anyways we started off by ordering a round of drinks and the scallop and coconut laksa (perfect dish!! every flavour was superb!). Then we had the grilled octopus, pineapple fried rice, fried chicken and miso lamb shank. While the food was delicious, we were disappointed that our dishes didn't come out at the same time. We also waited forever for our fried chicken. We followed up twice about it and when it finally came it was the wrong one, so we waited even longer for the right order to come (annoying). After we were done we had to ask a different server for our bill because we couldn't find our initial server. And after waiting 20 minutes for someone to come to us, we ended up just settling the bill at the bar. What was even more frustrating was that a table next to us, that was seated maybe 30 minutes after us, was able to order food, get all their dishes brought out at the same and in a reasonable time, paid their bill before us even though we had asked for ours before them. We spoke to the bartender about our experience and he tried to get the manager to our table but apparently they had already left for the night, so he advised us to write a review in hopes that someone would reach out. Great place for a large group party! I planned a bachelorette dinner & drinks for my friend here. 4 stars for the food, drinks and party vibe, +1 star for their customer service. Emails during the planning process were prompt and professional! They even asked for the event name, so they can print it on the menu and offered to decorate with complimentary balloons! For large groups, it's a prix fix menu for $45/ person, which offer several appetizers and mains to be shared across the table (approx 1 set for every 4 people). I especially like the Hoki Poke which is an ahi tuna poke on taro chips, the Fried Eggplant and the Sea Bass. The drinks are really fun and social media worthy and really contributed to the fun everyone was having. The rest of the food were mediocre. Decor is really nice and cute. Drinks: we were a group of 6 of us and we all got different ones to try. These were 5/5!! Really yummy. I would go back for the drinks not the food (unless they revamp their menu!) Food: was mediocre. Pork Bao= 4.5/5 my fav! Really good and flavorful Pineapple Fried Rice = 3/5 the presentation was really nice in an actual pineapple. Taste wise, nothing special.. wish they offered it with beef or chicken instead of only veg or pork. Chicken yakitori= 4/5 good taste, although seemed a bit dry Corn fritters= 2/5 not what I was expecting..very dry and bland Service: was really slow!! Some people on our table finished their mains when some didn't even get them yet (kitchen was slow). Our waiter felt so bad that he offered free shots for the table (pineapple upside down cake) ... which were delicious!!!! This was a really nice gesture. Price: not bad at all especially if a group shares a few items. Overall, the bar is doing a good job but the kitchen may need to step up it's game. Definitely a great location, cool vibe and lots of potential!! Came on Saturday to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday; We booked a reservation for 6:15pm and was promptly seated. The atmosphere was enjoyable and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The drinks were unique and presentation was cheeky; Instagram worthy. If you care to do it for the gram for $13+, sure. But if you're looking for a drink with alcohol substance, this is not the place for it. It had at most 1oz of liqueur, not the 2 to 3oz it stated. Food wise, our favourite was the taco and the pineapple upside down cake, which is quite disappointing to say. The loco moco was over saturated with sauce (meat was tender), and the chicken was dry and flavourless. I also felt that our service was very rushed, we were out of the restaurant in under 1 hour, with our appetizer out to our table 10 minutes after ordering... before our drinks came. Perhaps it was due to an early seating and they wanted to capture higher turnover during holiday season. I e been here twice and both times had a great time. Service is good and accommodating. Food is delicious, drinks are fun. Decor is looking a little worn (bar stools are bent and SO uncomfortable) but the hibiscus painted walls and lighting fixtures are cool. I heard so many good things about this place so I was super excited to come. First thing I have to note is how LOUD this restaurant is. I came for dinner and honestly I felt like I was in a club eating dinner because the music is just way too loud and I was shouting at my friends across the table. Totally unnecessary We ordered pork baos to start and our mains arrived and the baos still didn't come. We asked our server about it and she said that it takes long sometimes. Um OK. It is not normal for an appetizer to arrive after the mains and the server didn't even say anything when our mains came, we had to ask her after. She obviously forgot to put the order in and instead decided to lie about it? It is baos, its not anything complicated. Anyways about the mains. The poke bowl is nothing special that you can't get at the many fast food poke bowl spots all over the city. Also tried the short rib loco moco (shiitake mushroom gravy, fried egg,seasonal greens, green onion, crispy onions, sushi rice) which was a total disappointment. The short rib was not tender and a bit chewy, the gravy was SUPER salty, and the brussel sprouts were marinated in a sauce that was not only salty but spicy (thanks for warning me). We tried the pineapple upside down cake because it sounded interesting but again nothing amazing. It was just a regular cake with sauce on it and I felt like I could probably make it better myself. Also note* we had at least 3 homeless people stare at us from our window seat during dinner and 1 homeless person came into the restaurant and one of the waiters had to ask him to leave. Came here with a few friends and won't be coming back ever again. I get it, the drinks are fun and the vibe is live but the place in general is okay. We had a whole bunch of food brought to the table which was amazing cuz there were over 10 dishes for everyone to share. The Fried Eggplant was the best thing I had there and the dessert. I was excited for the fried chicken which I had high expectations because of other reviews but when I tried it I wasn't sure we were eating the same fried chicken because it wasn't anything special or people haven't had real fried chicken to compare it to. (I love fried chicken) but not from here. The Hoke Poke I was excited to try but it was a little warm which threw off the taste, and the pineapple fried rice was under cooked. This is not a complaint this was from my own experience and if you've read any of my reviews I'll tell the food how it is. The decor is nice and the environment is live I see why there was a ton of women who come into this spot way more girls then guys. At the end we had a fun night but our food kept coming out every half an hour which took forever and we were hungry! Will I come back? Never. read more

Took a group of 17 people for a birthday party and had a great time. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. We had a diverse group with some Vegan, Vegetarian and mix of other restrictions and the restaurant took it in stride. Everyone found something they liked and it was served quickly and perfectly. The meal and drinks were reasonably priced and they make some really unique drinks there. Kudos.. Would absolutely come back again. read more

I can't stop talking about and telling everyone about Miss Things! The Food: the pineapple fried rice (with jackfruit and pork) is the bomb dot com. Definitely a must try! It was on my mind for a week straight until I had it again. (Yes, back a week later after my first visit. Don't judge!) I've tried the poke wanton/tacos, lau lau, corn fritters, octopus and the short ribs - none of these were that great to be honest... I'll definitely have to try other items on my next visit. The Drinks: I love Miss Things' fancy drinks and funny pop-culture drink names. I will say that, although they are pretty took look at and perfect for the 'gram, the drinks served in the coconut, pineapples, and watermelons aren't much to rave about. My favourite (that comes in a regular, plain old glass) is "Becky with the good hair" - highly recommend that. The Decor: love, love, love! Whoever designed this place nailed it! However, I do hate the small, wobble stools that they use for the tall top tables (not the bar stools). If you go, try asking for a regular standard table. The Service: The service was 5/5 on my first time dining here. I didn't get her name, but the server with the short/buzzed blonde hair was prompt, kind, knowledgeable on the food and drinks menu, and attentive. I really wish she was there on my second visit for my friend's birthday! She really MADE the experience at Miss Things so much better. On my second visit, there was a large table of 10+ people who were loud, this was excusable but the three servers they had staffed seemed to just not get things right. Our water glasses were always empty, our food took forever to get there, the food was too salty, they got our order wrong, the server we got just wasn't up to par in comparison to the first server I had. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the larger party but it was disappointing. I asked for his recommendations and he just didn't seem interested. I mentioned the lau lau being dry the last time I was here and ask if it was just a bad time or if it's usually like that. He said he doesn't know and it comes the way it comes...... TLDR; worth the trip, or two. Definitely get the pineapple fried rice and Becky with the good hair. Ask for standard seating, not tall tops. read more

Such a cute cocktail bar! I came here for the watermelon cocktail off their secret menu and the trek was 100% worth it! The drink was delicious, refreshing, humongous and so strong that two it lasted the whole night split among 2 people! The food on the other hand was a little more forgetful. We got the pineapple fried rice with the pork belly and the fried eggplant. The fried eggplant was good at the start but it got soggy and way too sweet (think sweet and sour sauce) towards the end that we couldn't eat anymore of it. I wasn't a big fan of the fried rice either as the pork belly chunks were so huge that we had to pick them out. The rice itself was also too wet, making it sticky and not good for friend rice. Overall, great drinks but I will most likely skip on food next time. read more
