Service was friendly and welcoming upon walk-in, but that was the best part of our experience. The food sadly did not match the reputation. EVERYTHING came out lukewarm, the brisket was overcooked and dry, cornbread was burnt and hard, greens had no seasoning, and the baked beans were overwhelmingly vinegary. The bratwurst was underwhelming with no real snap, and even the B-side drink was way too sour. The mac & cheese and coffee BBQ sauce were the only good items of our entire meal. I really hope the kitchen staff was having an uncommon off-day, because this visit didn't reflect the recognition at all. Our meal was a compete letdown, so I hope they improve for future diners soon. PS - There is an upstairs and a downstairs, but if you sit upstairs, you have to order your food downstairs - they do bring the food up to you though.

One side of the menu was clearly marked for gluten free options while the other side wasn't, making it a hassle to flip back and forth and figure out what I could eat. Despite having quite a few gluten free options, they didn't have any gluten free soy sauce (or tamari). This would've really taken the meal to the next level as the gluten free meats come without any marination and are very very plain on their own. We also ordered large combo for 5-6 people which had a good amount of meats and sides but was supposed to come with six servings of rice. We never received the rice but weren't provided a reason or a discount. I'd return in the future but probably smuggle in my own personal bottle of tamari so I could enjoy the flavors of the meat more. Overall, the price at $215 for six of us (plus drinks) was pretty good, regardless of these small hiccups.

I am a regular and the folks there know my order. Shout out to both Seans and Lydia. Ruby seems to have left but was very kind as well. They are all fantastic. Try the ribs (with Memphis Belle) and brisket (with Smoky Mountain or Texas Red). Sweet tea, fries, and mac'n'cheese all good. I have two complaints about this location specifically: (1) Cornbread is very dry and overcooked (The Mission in Annapolis is better but CarterQue in Mt. Airy about an hour away kills them both). I can't stress how off-putting that must be to Southerners and I wonder how this chain is received as it pushes into the Bible Belt where folks have been eating cornbread daily since birth. (2) They do not ask you when you order brisket if you want lean or moist. This is a Texas thing and needs to be standard. They don't taste the same. (The location in Annapolis will ask). Lastly, I wish they would add banana pudding to the line-up. This is a staple at any Southern BBQ. My ideal Mission would have a system like Jason's Deli (Texas-based fast casual chain) that gives you free ice cream at the end of a meal. Mission should have free banana pudding even if it means raising prices $0.25. But all in all, especially if they spot you a few times, they will go out of their way to make things pleasurable for you. Considering you market and profit on the backs of the military, why wouldn't you offer a discount to the members of the military? Yes, the customers contribute toward the donations to the wounded warriors project with the $3 cup, but that's also a tax deduction so the only real support would be a discount. Other restaurants do this without claiming to be the "biggest supporters of the military" because, well that would be the honorable thing to do considering they contribute to your profits. My husband is in the military, but this isn't the only reason I have an issue with this. It's plain hypocritical and maybe even unethical to create your entire marketing vision on heroes you only somewhat support. My plan is to expand awareness of this within the military community and to spread the word via the many outlets that I have available. Even if you aren't in the military, please speak on behalf of those that are. read more

This is the second time visiting this location and again I was disappointed with the food, mainly the brisket. I've been to the one in Towson and Waldorf, and my food was good, but today at the Bost St. location the brisket was so salty that I couldn't even eat it and even tried dipping it in the bbq sauce and it didn't work. Our server, Francesca, was amazing. She was so friendly, personable, and attentive. I told her I was torn between the chili mac and the loaded mac, and she recommended the loaded. The pit beef was sooooo good. Perfectly cooked to medium, tender, and flavorful. The pulled pork was also delicious and the mac and cheese was super creamy. Also loved the bbq sauce. It wasn't too sweet or too vinegary. Also got a side of fries and they were so good; they reminded me of five guys fries. Overall we had such a good experience and the food was amazing. I can't wait to come back!
