Hagerstown was at the halfway mark of my two day trip from RI to Charlotte to visit my daughter in her new apartment. Stayed at a nearby hotel and took a drive around the mall that houses Mission BBQ seeing what I could treat myself to after the long drive. Having lived many years in the south, of course I headed to Mission BBQ. Huge place, clearly and proudly supporting our armed forces (me too), fun, noisy and great food. All the favorites I had missed: corn bread, cooked to death greenbeans with onion and bacon, incredibly delicious mustardy potato salad and of course pulled pork - NC style with coleslaw atop. Even the bun was delicious! Got it all to go and soon realized my eyes were a bit bigger than my stomach, but I went for it! A nice touch was a nice selection of different types of BBQ sauce to enhance the sandwich - though the sandwich didn't really need it. Pulled pork was moist and delicious and flavorful. Looking forward to heading BACK to RI tomorrow so I can stop by Mission BBQ again - this time I may limit myself to the sandwich, though. I have heard about Mission BBQ for a long time now. We don't live in Hagerstown so it's more of a convenience stop when we're there doing something. Mission BBQ will be added to the list of places that we stop frequently. I am a Veteran and the restaurant is very pro military. The decor is nice and supports military, police, and fireman. I ordered the brisket sandwich and it was delicious. I'm from Tennessee and very big on BBQ myself. My girlfriend had the BBQ chicken and also said it was good. The staff was friendly and came around to our table to ask if they could do anything to make the meal better. The answer was no. read more

We stopped on our way through. It was a quick and easy on/off from I 70 and I81. Each and every member of the staff we came in contact with was super nice and eager to help. They were giving samples, which made it easy to choose. Their meats are all dry rubbed and smoked, with a variety of sauces available at the table. Food is ordered at the counter from the menu. It was ready by the time we finished placing our order. The turkey was moist and smoky. Both the sauces I tried were very tasty. The winner was the BC vinegar available at table for the perfectly done fries. The manager on duty came to check that everything was to our satisfaction. I mentioned I couldn't find the butter and honey for the cornbread, and she made a special trip to get some (and the butter was soft enough to spread, not destroy the cornbread) AND she brought us an extra piece. We were looking for something different to go have dinner and this place IS IT! The best BBQ, pulled meat, sides and desserts. I really hope they stick around. Nice atmosphere, clean and GREAT staff! The BBQ sauces are to die for. If you leave hungry, that would be your mistake. Food portions are healthy and the prices are nominal. We happened to eat there during Military Appreciation week and it was USMC day, my 80 yr old dad is a Marine Vet and was treated like a king. My husband is an USAF Vet and both him and my dad got free sandwiches for being Veterans. They also honor first responders. The place is awesome and the food is too! My buddies and I refer to Mission as "Fast Food BBQ". We mean this in the very best way possible. The meats are a bit bland, the brisket almost always "dried" out, but the place is fun, quick, has big portions and is modestly priced. You can get a solid meal for $10-12 and it is hard to eat $20 worth of food. (XXL Meal + side of ribs and desert) I have visited Mission BBQ 6 times in four months, they are very consistent. Quick lines, quick to go service, employees who smile, place always has a spot to sit, but I almost always take it to go, I save 1/2 of my pulled pork for a separate sandwich later in the day. I suggest they take my idea and make it part of the fast food theme. It would be cool if you could order a "bag" of Pull Pork Sandwiches for $19.99 My ONLY complaint is that they do not offer greens as an available side. read more

Not a good value. I Bought the smoked pastrami to go. When I got home there were 5 thin slices, 2 of which were completely fat the other 3 were mostly fat. By weight 2/3 of my order was fat. Not enough meat to fill 3 slider buns. Very disappointing. read more

Stopped on a Saturday afternoon, it was extremely busy. The customer service was great, the food came out very quickly and the brisket sandwich was great. The price was also very good for the amount of food you get compared to other BBQ restaurants. 10/10 overall and we will be back soon. read more

I need to know how I have yet to review this place. I love love love this place. I love that they have a military affiliation. The decorations in each location pays homage to service member as well as civil servants. This one even has a display to recognize the local police station. The staff are super friendly from the time you walk in. The manager will walk from table to table just having conversations. Why? to ensure that you enjoying your food and service? Yes! But also to get to know you but in a non intrusive way. Doesn't hurt that she is often toting samples of the seasonal dessert or different menu items. So, moving on to the food. It is outstanding!! We had the pulled chicken, brisket, ribs. Seriously at some point I have eaten every item on this menu!! I even had them cater my company holiday social. They have not hired me as staff yet but they really should since I am a walking billboard pushing their brand. Anyway, back to the food! The meat is so tender and well seasoned. Even the chicken has the summer taste of being fresh off the grill. Yum. I really love the fries. Home cut, the perfect amount of crisp and salt. I hear the mac and cheese is good. My family loves it and they are heavier critics than I am. This place is highly recommended!! :( but they don't have a military discount. First time there and I didn't understand that even though the kids each only ordered sandwiches all items came out on their own mess hall tray a little hard to carry for a mom. Just open about a month and trying to get everything together. They didn't have a black plate special yet but had all the other good stuff. I had the turkey which was moist and a huge portion with the baked beans. Hubby had the salmon. Others in our party had the pork and brisket. It was all good as you'd expect from Mission BBQ. Manager Heather and staff super friendly and accommodating. They gave us 2 delicious apple cobbler desserts to share. While technically in the mall it's not in a food court but you go in from outside the mall. You will see the entrance/restaurant from the parking lot. read more
