I have always loved Mission and everything they've supported and stood for since I first discovered them in the Tampa area about 15 years ago. The food and portion size has always been great! But, that leads me to my last two times eating there. I've noticed a couple of different reviews on a Charlotte County dining page on Facebook talking about how the price has increased but the portion size decreased. I tried for myself to see if it was true. Unfortunately it was true both times. I typically always get the pulled chicken sandwich and in the past it has always been piled high with meat. On both of my recent trips, they definitely reduced the serving portion of meat on the sandwich, all while the prices have increased over time. I understand that prices will increase over time, but don't decrease the amount of food I'm paying for. Sadly, I won't be supporting Mission anymore. read more

We are so fortunate to finally have a Mission BBQ in the Port Charlotte-North Port area. Had been to the one in Tampa (Temple Terrace) a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it, not realizing it was a chain. The new one in Port Charlotte is just as good, with same menu, service and ambiance. I was super grateful for this location to open up because my mother really loves barbecue spare ribs. We went on a day off during the week right before noon. The entire staff and customers pause at noon to pay homage to the country that we live in and stand saluting the flag. Besides the fact that they participate in this event daily, they also participate in a lot of events supporting local law enforcement and military and are honored to hang your badges and photographs on their wall. But let's get to the real reason you're reading my review today. The food. I've never had anything here that I did not enjoy. Restaurant is spacious with standard booths and tables walls decorated with military and community first responder memorabilia. There is no wait service orders are placed. At the counter you seat your self and pick up your order when ready. Our party ordered the meat platters I had moist brisket, son had the three meat platter turkey, pork, and brisket while the girls ordered pulled pork sandwiches, meals come with sides. Note: that the children's menu is lacking the typical fare for kids. There is no bar but they do have a variety of beer In cans. Nice and clean restaurant with great customer service. Pulled pork sandwich was piled high and freshly pulled. Multiple BBQ sauces to choose from. The cole slaw was a little sweet for me, usually I put it on the sandwich cause that's what we do in Georgia along with the pickles, but I I chose not to because of the sweetness. Fries were hot and freshly cut. All in all, the best bbq sandwich I have had in this area. Will definitely return to try other items. I have always gotten their chopped brisket to put in my baked beans ( a recipe from a famous place in Austin) from the Fort Myers location. Glad to have a place so close! What a great place. The smell walking in was amazing and the decor was spoilt on. We loved the screens flashing actual military personnel. The food was pricey and weird how you had to order it. However, the food was all good. The staff was knowledgeable and so welcoming. They even offered us free fries to sample! The table had several different sauces to apply to our BBQ. Mission does a great job across the board and we have now attended four times. We love the Veteran/First Responder theme. The Service is "at the Counter" , which is great The food is good, though there is no need for customers to burp smoke smell on the way home. My Wife's half chicken tasted good but looked like a Chicken "Cadaver" of a bird that met its end sitting on a powerline short circuit. That is a tad too long on the fire. Slightly oversmoked ribs were my selection. Sides were overpriced. The Pulled Pork was out of this world! Fries were had cut and cooked to perfection. one of the most surprising thing was you order at the counter and they call your name when food is ready, the surprise was their POS system did not ask for a tip. how many places do this? very few. My work had them cater our lunch. We all loved it from the coworkers I asked. With the catering they included: plates, napkins, tongs, individually packed forks and knifes, 2 sauces, a custom box that it was easy to carry the order in. I liked it so much that my eife wanted to try it so we came back later that night so she could try a 3 meat sampler platter with me. She loved it and we got to try all 6 different sauces they offered. There was a long line when we arrived but they moved pretty quick getting orders out. They just opened about a week and a half ago so they were kind of slammed. The staff was very nice and would ask if we needed more sauce, or would collect and dispose of our trays after eating. They keep it clean and while waiting for our order they were refilling the lemonade and sweet tea machines. The decor inside is all police, fire, military, army, air force, navy themed. Service was good only problem was we asked was the meat put in the oven or actually put on the pitt. She said yes to the pitt. That was a lie it was clearly bake ribs and chicken. We are from Texas and we know smoked meat versus baked. The green beans no flavor not a grain of season potato salad same. We met our daughter for lunch here today. We placed our orders, then found a booth to eat, just before noon. At noon they announced that the National Anthem and would everyone stand. Every one stood. It was very touching, and as we looked around we noticed, police officers, firefighters, and other 1st responders and veterans were the majority of the customers. Absolutely my favorite place ever! Food is so good - love the brisket, pulled chicken and smoked turkey. The fries are awesome- make sure you ask for "freedom" fries and they put a special seasoning on them. Sauces are pretty good but I really like the Baja bold sauce it's very spicy - you either have to ask for it or the bottles are over by the coke machines. The Mac and cheese is good. They've only been open 2 days and you wouldn't know it. In a area that has zero (exactly) good BBQ places, Mission is a very welcome addition. WOW!! Just WOW this is the best Barbecue food I have ever had from a restaurant. When me my mom, dad and grandparents went to Mission BBQ we were just blown away, we went at 11:30 and got there at 11:45 just in time for the 12 o'clock Pledge of allegiance they do daily. When I went to Mission BBQ I got the brisket with a side of mac & cheese and it was AMAZING! I got it moist (which is the best type of brisket). my mom doesn't like to eat red meat so she got the pulled chicken and she thought it was really good. My dad got the two meat platter(he got the brisket and the ribs). My grandma and grandpa split the three meat platter and they got brisket, Sausage and pulled pork. Every tray you get comes with a slice of cornbread on the side and a drink. I got their sweet tea and it was really really good. Another AMAZING thing about the restaurant is the atmosphere. The atmosphere is so American I love it. They have war, veteran pictures and police and firefighter outfits and badges on the walls. Another thing I like is that there's not too much on the menu. There's enough where I could get a new thing every day of the week, but it's not like I have to browse the menu for 10 minutes just to know what I want to eat. All the waitresses there are so nice to you. It was all of our first times going here and they asked us and then they told us how all the meat is made and where it's from and like facts about like meat and stuff, it was really cool. We tried Mission BBQ for the first time this evening. My hubby and I both had the traditional pulled pork sandwich and cheesy potatoes. The pork was delicious and plentiful. We added our own sauces at the table. We tasted all six sauces, with hubby settling on the Smokey one and I on the Memphis sweet. The cheesy potatoes were just okay. We do frequently go there but this time we reserved the room for my dad's 90th birthday, who also is a VET. He was in his glory on how well it turned out. My 1st time in a Mission BBQ and I was very impressed with the facility and the commitment to customer service! Everyone I spoke with was friendly and anxious to provide service. This was new location and it was spotless and incredibly well prepared for the rush of lunch customers that joined me. The aromas and the presentation of their foods was amazing! The price was great and before I finished my meal there had been multiple people checking to see if I needed anything. Especially welcoming as Melina, her energy and commitment to visiting each person in the dining room was awesome! We even discussed the mission behind Mission BBQ and that was an incredible look at why this organization will continue to succeed!
