Every instructor gave advice while out there and Anton was the shit. Ask for him when you go! This was my first go at surfing. When I first arrived to the lesson I was approached by a photographer that said he takes pictures of your experience and if I was interested he would let me know the details and if not he didn't want to waste my time. Once I told him I wasn't interested he stayed to talk about how amazing my experience was going to be and got me pumped for the day. I was then paired with ANTON, one of the surf instructors. Keeping it short and sweet this guy was the real deal. I was riding waves from start to finish he continued to challenge me and allowed me to walk away with a huge smile on my face. He was super chill, genuinely interested in our conversation and a cool dude. When I go back to San Diego I will definitely return to this school and request Anton for another amazing experience!! My 17 year old daughter and I never surfed before but always wanted to try so we decided to take a lesson Mission Beach Surf School. Everything was very easy including the online registration, directions, and where they were located was very easy to find them. All the on-site staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions and especially our instructor, Nico was great to work with. I decided to go to this place because I read great reviews on their instructors and Nico was no exception. He was easy to talk to, was very encouraging, positive, and didn't seem to bother him that we knew nothing at all about surfing. He seemed to really care about teaching us how to surf. I highly recommend them!!!! Also, we signed up for the photo service so we could remember our experience. The photo's were great and very happy we went with this additional service. This was my first time surfing ever & everyone from the person handling my reservation (Marlee) to my instructor, Mike, were amazing! I had to keep changing the time of my lesson due to change of plans with family I was visiting. Marlee was super accommodating. Then when I got to my lesson I was a bit nervous. Mike assured me I would have an awesome experience & would be riding waves in no time. And he was right! I was up by my third try & he had me riding waves the entire lesson. Such an awesome person & instructor! I highly recommend taking a private lesson & definitely recommend Mike. He was an amazing instructor & also just a nice, cool, fun person. Totally made my trip. My family took a group lesson from Mission Beach Surfing School and it was one of the highlights of our vacation. If you are thinking about taking surf lessons, these folks are the people to see. We had a variety of ages (youngest was 9 and oldest was 60+) and none of us had ever been on a surf board before. Our instructor Alex got four out of five of us up at least once. The kids were up within half an hour. Alex was patient and really good with the kids. Also recommend the photo package. Adam was on the beach with us most of the time and we ended up with 100+ photos. And not the photos you'll get with your phone either. Fabulous shots on the board and hitting the water. Will definitely use them again the next time we are in San Diego. read more

I had lesson with Adam on wed July 6th it was a semi private lesson with other 2 teen age surfers. Adam is the best instructor I have had so far, he taught us different ways to pop up and tells me what I am doing wrong and what can be done better. I like his personality because he is funny and tells jokes, but most importantly he cares about students, he works hard to ensure everybody has fun and he will swim around to help you. man, instructors I had in the past I have to go to them to get help, but Adam actually comes to you and help. Anyways if you take his lesson you will know what "sweet spot" is...I ain't gonna tell you here cuz I am shredding now in Northern California with his secret...suckaaaas!! read more

I'm a 54 year old guy who thought surfing would be a good idea on vacation. Saw the tent on Pacific Beach and found them to be more professional and attentive than several others I had spoken with. Scheduling was easy online; was able to book the time I wanted. The overall experience was fantastic! They started on time. I was totally outfitted with wetsuit and trained first on land how to properly transition from prone to standing up. My instructor Alex di d a wonderful job both on the shore and in the water, teaching and critiquing in a fun positive way that enabled me to ride some waves. I bought my boyfriend a private lesson for his birthday as a surprise - his first surfing lesson! We went out with Rubem who was a great instructor - he taught us just enough while we were practicing on land to ensure we knew the proper technique for getting up on the board, and then he helped us make minor adjustments in the water so we could get up and stay up longer. We started out on the "baby" waves and once we had a handle at those we got to try some bigger ones, too. I took 2 grandchildren (11 & 13) for surf lessons. Kevin was a great coach. He was positive in his approach, enthusiastic and passionate about what he did. Both of my grandchildren were up within the first hour it was truly amazing. After 3 lessons they were confident in what they did and could start on their own. All the instructors & personnel were positive, encouraging and complimentary. The photographer also did a fantastic job capturing the children in different levels of learning. The best surf instructors!! Hilarious dudes and guide you every step of the way. I did a semi private lesson and had 5-6 good rides in (1st time surfing). Eric is awesome and helped us with technique and which waves to go for. DEFINITELY tip these guys as they deserve it! We bought the CD from the experienced photographer and it was well worth the money. We went through the pictures so many times and laughed and reminisced the great time we had. We WILL go back. Preston was a great instructor (MB). He was very patient with me and had great tips and advice. I was able to stand up after a couple tries. It was an amazing experience. I had a private lessons which was fantastic and the price was VERY reasonable. I had just lost a lot of weight and 40 is around the corner and I decided to step out of the comfort zone and these guys made the experience AWESOME!!! I am hooked and can not wait to get back to the coast for more lessons with these guys. read more

Took my four grandkids for lesson and they had Salim and Rosie for instructors. It was like a private lesson, they gave each kid one an one instruction, spent extra time with each. All the kids were standing after only a couple of tries. The check in process was quick and the gal that helped me ( so sorry I don't remember her name) was friendly and helpful. My boyfriend and I took a semi private lesson and had an amazing experience! The staff were all super friendly and helpful. We both got up on the surf board on our very first time and continued to progress throughout the lesson. Our teacher, Buddha, was super nice, fun, and very personable. It was an overall awesome experience! It was a relatively good price for what we got. We all stood up multiple times within the hour and a half. The waves were a great height for beginners. He gave me the tips and tricks on land, and then stabilized, cheered, launched, and instructed me to success in the water. I'm 50 years old, and have now surfed. Absolutely amazing experience! My husband and I live here in La Jollla but never tried surfing. We had Preston as our teacher for a semi-private lesson. Preston was an excellent surf instructor: so encouraging, responsive and informative. We all got up on the board several times throughout the lesson. Brandon was one of our instructors and he was great! Surfed with my 12 year daughter. This was our second time (we took lessons yesterday), and had such an awesome time, we came back for more! We did not need the full land lesson again so we got more time in the ocean! We caught many waves with the help of Brandon. He was patient, encouraging and timed the waves expertly! I have learned so much in a short time. I was wanting to learn how to surf since I was young but it is just now that I had enough courage to actually take the dive.
