I ate at the Mission Boathouse last night with high expectations. It was OK, but not what I hoped. Here's the pros and cons: PROS: *Really nice, helpful waiter. *Main Entrees - delicious. I had the swordfish with spinach and mashed. Very flavorful and cooked perfect. My friend had the fried haddock which was a lovely, good sized piece of fish, also cooked well - excellent fry! *Beautiful view - we sat by the window and it looks right out over the water. Very serene. *Drinks / wine - excellent. My cocktail was very well balanced and super cold and refreshing. The wine selection was good and we both enjoyed our choices. CONS: *Pricey - I'm totally fine with pricey, however I wasn't thrilled with all of my dishes, some other things below, and they add a "supply chain" fee on to your meal by percentage. I realize prices have gone up, however I've eaten at some really nice, reasonable restaurants lately who do not place an additional fee on your food. *My appetizer - the meatballs. They were overcooked and super spicy. I'm fine with spicy however I want to KNOW they are spicy before ordering. I was trying to stay away from spice for personal reasons, and surprise....spicy. Not noted on the menu. I was expecting just a normal meatball. One of the staff came over and said it was just the sauce but.... not true. I scraped off every bit of sauce and the meat itself was super spicy. And the breadsticks were overcooked, dry, and very chewy like they were over worked? We didn't eat them. *Steak - On the menu it says they will not guarantee to cook your steak to order if you ask for medium well or above. Really? My friend absolutely LOVES a well done steak and although I don't think it's the way to eat a steak, it's HER preference and she's paying for it. So .... if she wants a well done steak and is paying $$$, that' s exactly what she should get. Most other restaurants are very accommodating to personal preferences of the customer. *Dessert falls into both categories - it was tasty. The brownie came with ice cream coated in grahams and a marshmallow base....all good and s'more like. But I have to say the big brownie was a bit dry. That being said, it tasted pretty good and none went to waste. *To end the evening, I slid my foot forward a bit to push my chair out so I could leave. My toe came near to the leg or base of the table, and something jutting out from the leg of the table cut into my toe. I wish I had looked to see what metal was sticking out - is the leg studded, sharp, a nail??? In any event, it went right into my toe and I was bleeding ...a lot ...and I had to go to the restroom to clean it up and also had to pull over on the way home to clean it again and wrap it. Wasn't happy about this obviously. I may or may not come back to this restaurant. I haven't tired the other floors, but I'm leaning towards not, but you never know! If I go back and have a different experience I will revise. Maybe it was just an off night ....time will tell!! read more

I'm not into writing reviews for restaurants, but I'm making an exception for mission boat house. Last night we had family visiting from out of state, so we figured we would treat them to supposedly a nice restaurant. We had a total of 8 in the party including myself. My problem with the restaurant was it was absolutely freezing inside. I even asked the waiter why was it so cold. He just ignored me, everyone was sitting with coats on. Everyone complained how cold it was. We orders the food and it came out cold. It's not acceptable for a restaurant of this price range to have customers sitting in the cold and serving cold food. We had a family lunch here after the Pete Frates 5k. It was nice that it had dedicated parking and the building was modern and accessible. We were seated quickly and our server was great about putting in kids orders with our drinks. This was a child-friendly place, and the views were great. We had a variety of dishes that were good. The view is beautiful and I was looking forward to this! Took friend for bottomless brunch for her birthday. One dish, the eggs were cold then another the eggs Benedict was tasteless and it, too, was cold. The coffee was awful. The service was good, however. My receipt/bill came to $71.05 with tip but I just received AmEx bill and they charged me $109.10. Whoa, this discrepancy has never happened before In my decades of restaurant experience. This review is based upon the Clam Chowder only. Visually it looked great. Why is this crumbles of bacon sitting on top of the chowder? Oh well let's stir it up and dig in. The clams were amazing, the potatoes were perfect. But: The taste of bacon was overwhelming. Even a half hour later all I could taste was bacon. Went tonight, we sat in. At high top first time here. Couple observations, it's loud. Feel like the music was loud (we are not old but 40s and found it loud). The food is really, good. App that f calamari came out quick. Our entrees pizza and streak frites were both delicious. My steak and fries were coldish when they arrived so had been sitting which was disappointing. We gave it a try and are disappointed. The building is nice and first class. When we got our food it was cold inside. The burgers were dripping out a lot of clear liquids that explaina the meat was frozen. The only good food were the calamaris and clam showder. The stuff were having Jeans on. This place looks so beautiful from the outside. It's on the water and you can see the beautiful boats.. was I was visiting my son who goes to Endicott College and we were looking for a nice restaurant to eat at. The atmosphere is wonderful and the workers are friendly and helpful... but the food is unfortunately very disappointing. I had the filet mignon, which was tasteless. No flavor at all.. The spinach had so much garlic. I took a bite and started coughing.. lol My son had the carbonara which he disliked. It had a really funny taste to it. they also ordered a brownie for dessert that tasted like a cake that was baked in my own oven very very plain. I think if we ever go back there, we will try a simpler dish maybe a french fry or chicken nuggets or something but the main course meal was not good unfortunately :( read more

Usually give a new place a few weeks to work out the kinks, but since we've been waiting 25 years for a waterfront restaurant in Beverly had to try it the first weekend. And it did not disappoint. Atmosphere and service were great. Food (we had the tuna tartare, salmon and pork chops) were all pretty tasty and plentiful-much better than we'd experienced at the Swampscott location. Great local beer and cocktail list. Anxious to go back at a time we can appreciate the awesome view, which should rival any waterfront view on the North Shore. read more

We organized a"Sip and See" for our first grandchild on 5/4/2024. Priscilla took care of us in a very friendly and professional manner. She gave us many options of delicious food, plus a full bar on the third floor. We had about 70 people and everyone had a great time. Plus, we didn't go over budget! We have been to this place 3x so far and are planning to return today. We are locals and can easily walk right over. The food has always been consistent, and the service has been good to great depending on the day and time. I tend to stick to the Sushi as there are several things on there I really like! The views are fabulous and the ambiance is excellent. The beer and wine selection are very good! A few points to make: 1. Is it expensive, others have stated as such; honestly, I find it comparable to the prices of similar establishments in the surrounding Beverly/Salem area. 2. If you have an issue, speak up and don't just write a nasty review. We had one time where we had an issue with one of our entrees, we told our server, they immediately fixed the issue and very kindly gave us a round of drinks at no charge. (They wanted to take it off the bill and we declined because the second time it came out it was absolutely fabulous!!!) Give them a chance to rectify it! 3. I recommend the bar on the second floor or the top floor for the best views and ambiance. 4. Yes, it is loud; but that is part of the vibe, it is a vibrant lively environment. read more

The food & drinks unfortunately were very overpriced for what you received that we left after a round of drinks & an app. We ordered the calamari & we're puzzled at the amount of iceberg at the bottom to make the dish look full! Had the absolute best clam chowder I have ever had. We ordered the half price Lobster Rolls which had an over abundance of very sweet and fresh Lobster. We sat at the bar which is beautiful with a nice view. Drinks are yummy. Service is good. Food can use some improvement though. We ordered lobster empanadas for appetizer. They were tasty but no lobster meat at all. We also had pork chops and swordfish entrees. They made pork chops look huge by giving 2 pieces of thin cut. For the price, I would prefer a nice thick cut chop. Swordfish seemed a bit small and bland with generous portion of mashed potatoes and spinach. read more

Visited mission last week for date night with my boyfriend and we had an excellent experience certainly the best we have had in Beverly. A high point of experience was definitely our server Hillarie. She had a way of providing upscale high end service in a way that was really warm. Sometimes I feel like high end service means a cold waiter but not Hillarie, I felt like I was being waited on by a friend and we had a great time being taken care of by her. Our water glasses were never empty and she always made sure our table was neat which is a big plus from me. She got us bottled water hate when servers don't offer. We asked for a picture and she took several and honestly they were really great shots. We were impressed that before taking the picture of us she went out of her way to make sure the table was clean. Sometimes servers roll their eyes when you ask for a picture but not Hillarie she really took the time to make sure we looked our best. I never know what to get and can be pretty annoying, my boyfriend hates eating out. Hillarie was excited to be my guide but she didn't make me feel like she was just trying to upsell us. She was patient and happy to help us out. She asked us what we liked and didn't and said she loved trying to match people's likes with their menu. I had a lot of questions regarding the menu and she had most of the answers. When she didn't know the answer she courteously let me know and said it was important to her that she got us the right answer and checked with the kitchen. She was quick and I really appreciate that she didn't just make something up. I don't have allergies but I do have aversions and it is important to me to know that information before buying! She laughed and was light and thanked us for giving her an opportunity to learn more. Thanks for that Hillarie sometimes servers just don't give a crap but she does and made us feel comfortable and that we were taken care of. She recommended great drinks my cocktail is something I would have never picked myself. Hillarie said trust me it's excellent and said please don't be afraid to tell me if you don't like it we want you happy. She knew every ingredient in that drink off the cuff I was impressed. I said I wanted something I'd never order myself and she asked if I ever had mezcal I hadnt and dared me to try a smoke on the water. I was afraid of Smokey but oh my god I am hooked so balanced and so fun to try something new. I never had to look for a drink Hillarie was always there but not annoying she just popped up at the right moment. I wanted something sweet which I am afraid to do and she offered that a mango cocktail would be a great way to cleanse the smokiness on the palate. Again the drink was great and Hillarie knew every it was fruity but not artificial tasting and it was delivered promptly. My boyfriend is a beer afficianado but Hillarie could hang with that comfortably. They went back and forth on the different breweries this girl knew quite a bit and knew the beers down to their abv. When she didn't know she had know problem running over to the bar and asking. He sold him on the Gentile because it is a Beverly brewery she knew what the rotation was and even let him taste that and the true north another local brew. She said both breweries are great day trips and we honestly want to take her along lol. We're new to the area and we're always looking for new spots. He ended up getting both and it was nice that she wasn't annoyed to let him try. Food was great again we trusted Hillarie. We got a bunch of apps but said we wanted to take it slow. She coursed everything out perfectly the second we were done with one dish a new one arrived. We honestly just feel bad for the dishwasher because she always managed to get us knew silverware and plates again not annoyingly she reassured us that she wanted us to a fresh taste of each dish which was nice! We had the ceviche which was so fresh and delicious and something I'd never order myself. New England at its best! We moved onto a Cesar per Hillarie's guidance she said she was a Cesar expert and that missions is the best around and it was! She was right there with the fresh pepper which I always love from a server and offered some lemon which was a great touch. Finally we shared mussels Hillarie suggested we share a glass of a wine and let us know it was no trouble to split a glass into two glasses for us we were kind of done drinking but she convinced us that the montepulciano was the perfect pairing for the fra diavolo and if really was and something we had never tried. She got us new napkins and plates and a dish for our shells making everything easy to share! We'll be drinking montepulciano at home what a great new find for us. She showed us the bottle which we took a pic of and we'll be on the look out. . No dessert for us Hillarie was sweet enough! Thanks Mission and Hillarie for a perfect date night :)! read more

We will never go back. Two drinks, 28 dollars. And 8 dollar glass of bud light, and. a pinot Grigio. Is that a 18 dollar glass of wine ? Obviously the bartender took advantage of us. Then I heard about the 3% fee so they can pay their kitchen staff. Not my place to pay your staff while the owner wallows in the profits. Everyone should refuse to pay the 3%. read more

Since we have always enjoyed Mission on the Bay in Swampscott, my wife and I travelled to Mission Boathouse in Beverly. What a great dining experience! We prefer to sit at the bar and enjoy the interaction with servers and other customers. It is a wonderful way to broaden our understanding of local favorites and get meal recommendations. The meatball appetizer was very good, the Trios martinis were spot on and the tacos were excellent. A very nice restaurant layout with an updated vibe. Treat yourself. read more

We ate here yesterday for brunch for the most part it was good not too many choices. Oysters were small but sweet from cape cod the clam chowder was good as well as the lobster benedict which they served cajun home fries which was way too salty for us. Not to sound cheap but they charge a 3% surcharge for supply chain issues now why would they advertise that surcharge when they can hide it in the cost of each item. My husband and I ate at the Cantina on the first floor, and it was a pretty mediocre experience. I will say the service was excellent and the view of the harbor was lovely. But the drinks we had were terrible, and our meal was fine but not great. We ordered shrimp tacos, fish tacos and a sushi roll. The sushi roll for some reason came out in a to-go container with nothing to put the soy sauce in, and the tacos were basically fried seafood with tartar sauce on top. Mission Boathouse is not a place I can recommend now, give them a year to chill out and try again. We booked a table for 6 to celebrate a graduation and we're treated politely, but the staff must be very new.. The 2nd floor restaurant was extremely loud and yes sometimes service can be too fast. Drinks arrived at the table quick (which was nice) but then everything else at warp speed was ridiculous and felt very pushy. Slow down folks.. I dropped nearly 500 dollars on a meal with my family and wanted to enjoy it. Unfortunately, I couldn't because we were hounded by your staff. It's dinner service.. I didn't walk into a ratty Dunkin Donuts expecting a coffee within 30 seconds after ordering. Relax. And a 3% supply chain surcharge added to my bill ?? Your (understandably) inflated prices are high enough but, I'm sure you could find another way to make up the 3%.. Drop that small print "hidden" fee from your menu, it's disrespectful and rolls with a world desperate to up profit margin. It doesn't do anything for customer loyalty which is where real success is. I don't think we will be back anytime soon. read more
