The bartender was incredibly kind, this review is not in regards to the staff, however, the only thing we ordered for food were the oysters and they were unbearable. They were not properly shucked, we had to dig them off of each shell. There were also huge pieces of shell in some of them as well. They also had a very bad after taste, which is never good from oysters. I ended up getting violently ill after we left, and those were the only thing that made sense. Luckily, we did inform the bartender at the time and she ended up comping or bar tan, which was incredibly appreciated. However, we will not be returning after that experience with the food. read more

my family and I went to Mission Boathouse for Easter Sunday Luncheon. I had requested a window table when I called ahead for our reservation realizing that on such a busy day that might not be possible. We were shown to our table overlooking the water.We were pleased at such a true accommodation. My granddaughter is a vegetarian. Even after looking over the menu when I made the reservation I was concerned that there wouldn't be a wide choice available to her. She found several items to choose from and was thrilled with her meal. We were all extremely happy with our choices. The waitstaff was efficient, yet friendly. It was a lovely place to celebrate a holiday. But now that Ive been, I'll return often. I'm looking forward to enjoying the warmer weather on the patio . read more

I would always go to the Mission Boathouse in Beverly because they had the best Beyond meat tacos! They recently took them off the menu and replaced them with another taco with chickpeas. It wasn't that great. With that said, I will not be going back unless they put the Beyond taco back on the menu. read more

Let's start positive, the food was good and even though it was a rainy night, I can see where the view would make this a place for a special occasion. My wife had the steak and frites, which she enjoyed. I tasted the steak tip and found it to have a nice flavor but a little "mushy". Since I was not in the mood for fish, I chose something different, "Char Siu, which was an Asian themed pork over lo mein and julienne vegetables. I found this dish to be pleasantly nice for trying something different. Our waitress was attentive and was well versed in the menu selections. On the down-side, the evening didn't start well with no parking available on site. It was drizzly and I'm getting a little older and less patient with driving around the neighborhood, finding a spot, and walking back. I later found out that their lot is open to the public (by agreement with Beverly), and between a function and any public overflow, there were no spots. We also found out that there is parking under the Salem-Beverly bridge, which appeared to be a short walk to the restaurant. I would suggest some sort of valet, rather than put the burden on the customer. I can only imagine the competition for spots if there was both a crowd in the restaurant and the function room. We ordered a caesar salad to starts, and placed our order at the same time. We were no more than halfway into the salad when the entrees showed up. I found this to be annoying as our best option was to send the steak back to sit under the heat lamp (i.e. not a good option). This was a birthday dinner, and I had hoped to spend some extra birthday time with my wife but we felt rushed. By the way, the reservation app asked us if this was a special occasion, but there was no acknowledgement by anybody, why ask? There were a few other minor things. For example, you walk into the lobby and have to decide what to do ( if you hadn't been there before). I would suggest a greeter or better signage. All in all an o.k. experience but not yet at the potential for this location. read more

My wife and I embarked upon this Mission to find dinner last night. We live in the area and were excited to try a new spot. The parking lot was full at 6 pm (Saturday) but surprisingly there were multiple tables free on the back deck and inside. We opted for the back deck as it was a nice evening (even though that section has a more limited menu). A friendly hostess told us we were free to seat ourselves wherever. I really wanted to like this place as it was close by and in a nice spot overlooking the water. It took a few mins for the waitress to come around and take our drink orders. No prices were listed for the beers, and while that's usually a red flag, we ordered a couple beers regardless and the steeply priced $17 calamari. To my surprise, the calamari came out immediately, and I mean literally under 1 minute later (much faster than the beers). As we were starving, we were initially thrilled about the speed, but I quickly discovered that they must have given us some plate of calamari meant for some other abandoned order, as it was no longer hot and had become soggy from the sauce that was all over it. I forced myself to eat it anyway, and let me tell you, it was the WORST calamari I've ever had, and one of the worst dishes I've had in a long time all around. It was extremely salty, and the sriracha aioli did not taste like sriracha aioli - it was overly sour/salty and not spicy at all. This might be the only time ever my wife and I didn't finish an appetizer. As I mentioned, this was obviously not freshly cooked calamari, so I assume another customer had already rejected it after having a similar reaction to the horrible taste, and the restaurant must have seized upon the opportunity to pawn it off on some other unsuspecting suckers. When the waitress came back around, we told her we'd just like the check. I politely mentioned to her I wasn't a fan of the calamari - she had nothing to say to that, but at least she had the card reader ready to go. Turns out the beers were $12 each (we had the same exact beers at another place for $8 each a couple days prior, at a high-end steakhouse). As if I wasn't insulted enough by this and the $17 inedible calamari, they also threw on a 3% "supply chain" fee! Never heard of such a scam - couldn't help but wonder "am I still in Beverly?" We went just over the bridge to complete our dinner - ended up at the 99. Admittedly, the Bill & Bob's parking lot next door has a nicer waterfront view but at least at the 99 we got a couple 23 ounce drafts of decent beer for $8 a piece and entres that each cost less than than the reused calamari at Mission. Ultimately, this was a failed Mission for us but if you're just looking to get an Instagram pic of yourself on a waterfront deck, it might work for you and your fancy friends. read more

I have been here a couple of times, and each time has been incredible. The drinks are the perfect ratio of tasty and string, but not overly strong. The food is great, but really made my night was the staff. JR and Jill are wonderfull!!! Amanda, behind the bar, is the most friendly person I can imagine, and each person I met was incredibly attentive and kind. I ordered vegetable enchilada and it was more vegetable surprise(surprise if you found one). Three thinly sliced peppers. The sauce was well, awful. Rice had no flavor other than some grease that stuck to the roof of my mouth. Ok, best for last.. a quarter cup of arugula dry, thrown on the plate. The food felt cheap and thrown together. This was an absolutely horrible experience for our family. We had a reservation for the brunch buffet. This was a big trip for all of us, coming from Central MA for a special day. We were not spoken to by a single server the entire time we were there. After sitting at the table with no water or any greeting for 25 minutes we decided to help ourselves to the buffet that we had paid for. My husband had to go ask for water and bring it to our table himself. Then we tried waving several servers down, now having been seated for 40+ minutes still with no drinks. We finally got the attention of a server and we asked if we could please have some drinks as no one has been to our table. She offered us mimosas, we said yes please and she was off again. My son and mother in law had wanted drinks that weren't mimosas, but those weren't offered. So, my husband went to the bar to get a glass of milk for our 8 year old. After finishing our plates of food with still no one coming to our table, we waited around to see if we might get one more round and pay the bill. Again no one came and we went to the hostess to see if we had to sign a check or anything before leaving. She said yes we'd have to leave a tip (hilarious, who are we supposed to tip?!). So, we waited yet again, no one ever came. We told the hostess on our way out that no one came and she said "okay, you guys are good to go then." Wow. Last night we had family visiting from out of state, so we figured we would treat them to supposedly a nice restaurant. We had a total of 8 in the party including myself. My problem with the restaurant was it was absolutely freezing inside. I even asked the waiter why was it so cold. He just ignored me, everyone was sitting with coats on. Everyone complained how cold it was. We orders the food and it came out cold. It's not acceptable for a restaurant of this price range to have customers sitting in the cold and serving cold food. We had a wonderful experience celebrating my husband's birthday last night. Our server was very friendly and the food was phenomenal. The short rib empanadas and mushroom pizza are two of my favorites from Mission Oak Grill in Newburyport, and they were just as good, if not better, at Boathouse last night. The view is beautiful and I was looking forward to this! Took friend for bottomless brunch for her birthday. One dish, the eggs were cold then another the eggs Benedict was tasteless and it, too, was cold. The coffee was awful. The service was good, however. My receipt/bill came to $71.05 with tip but I just received AmEx bill and they charged me $109.10. Whoa, this discrepancy has never happened before In my decades of restaurant experience. Let's start with the positive: beautiful restaurant and view. The waitress was nice and tried her best to be accommodating to people with gluten allergies. The food we were able to eat tasted delicious. We had the short rib tacos and the blackened salem on. The negative starts with a long walk to get parking, our drinks we are about 2 thirds full. My husband almost returned it, but he doesn't like to make a scene. If you have a gluten allergy, which we do, there isn't a lot available. We had a very good meal here last night. Service was excellent and there are water views all around. Restaurant is huge- I believe three levels. Everyone was very friendly and had an upscale decor and vibe. Parking lot is tight on a weekend. Steak frites were a little undercooked but the Swordfish and Fried Haddock were excellent. This place looks so beautiful from the outside. It's on the water and you can see the beautiful boats.. was I was visiting my son who goes to Endicott College and we were looking for a nice restaurant to eat at. The atmosphere is wonderful and the workers are friendly and helpful... but the food is unfortunately very disappointing. I had the filet mignon, which was tasteless. No flavor at all.. The spinach had so much garlic. I took a bite and started coughing.. lol My son had the carbonara which he disliked. It had a really funny taste to it. they also ordered a brownie for dessert that tasted like a cake that was baked in my own oven very very plain. I think if we ever go back there, we will try a simpler dish maybe a french fry or chicken nuggets or something but the main course meal was not good unfortunately :( read more

We tried out Mission Boathouse this past Wednesday evening and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. We were greeted by two welcoming young women at the door. We requested a seat near a window if possible and I think we got one of the best seats in the house. Our server was Scott and he was excellent. Scott gave us some insights on several dishes and some fantastic wine he recommended. I got the salmon with crabmeat on top and it was delicious. We have a boat in the area every summer and have tried all the local places. Happy to find this gem. You won't find keno at the bar but if you're looking for something a little upscale with great food and service, try this out. I'm looking forward to going again. read more

I went there with my family on 5/5/23. We loved the location and the ambiance,the service was great,and the food (although pricey) was excellent. I was astounded when I saw that 3% was added to my bill for supply chain issues. I go out to eat all the time and have been for 40 years,yet never saw any charges on a bill except for what I ordered. I was told by the waitress that it was written on the menu. Am I supposed to read the fine print on a menu when I order food ? Ridiculous. I will not go back unless the 3% surcharge disappears. It's giving want to be Beauport 1606. The food was really bad and overpriced. Lobster empanadas were good, but 2 for $24 is ridiculous, there should be at least 3. Steak tips were mid, presentation was awful. My pasta was so overcooked it was one giant clump. Dessert was okay, but definitely didn't compare to similar venues (Daniella's etc.) It's clear that this restaurant is catering to a specific demographic of people who believe that a water view is more important than the amount of money they are spending on mediocre food... That being said, they just opened and all kitchens struggle in the beginning. I will come back in a year, and I'm sure things will be better... GREAT STAFF so kudos to the workers. Good view over the harbor. Parking will be a mess when they open the complete facility, when we were there the dining room was not full (numerous empty tables) but the parking lot was completely packed with folks looking for a spot. Food was OK+, I'd go back for the food, but..... The real downer as that management feels the need to add a 3% "supply chain surcharge fee" to the bill, ostensibly so they dont have to reprint the menu - which is totally stupid. I think that the owners have not completed their math classes as the cost for the item is still fixed and if they want to raise their prices as cost increase (totally acceptable) they are going to have to reprint the menu regardless of the 3%. So as long as the ownership wants to be cagey on their costs (I dont care if its clearly stated in the fine print of the menu) I will think hard about returning. I even wrote to their management about this and never heard back from them. Obviously they don't care. I ate at the Mission Boathouse last night with high expectations. It was OK, but not what I hoped. Here's the pros and cons: PROS: *Really nice, helpful waiter. *Main Entrees - delicious. I had the swordfish with spinach and mashed. Very flavorful and cooked perfect. My friend had the fried haddock which was a lovely, good sized piece of fish, also cooked well - excellent fry! *Beautiful view - we sat by the window and it looks right out over the water. Very serene. *Drinks / wine - excellent. My cocktail was very well balanced and super cold and refreshing. The wine selection was good and we both enjoyed our choices. CONS: *Pricey - I'm totally fine with pricey, however I wasn't thrilled with all of my dishes, some other things below, and they add a "supply chain" fee on to your meal by percentage. I realize prices have gone up, however I've eaten at some really nice, reasonable restaurants lately who do not place an additional fee on your food. *My appetizer - the meatballs. They were overcooked and super spicy. I'm fine with spicy however I want to KNOW they are spicy before ordering. I was trying to stay away from spice for personal reasons, and surprise....spicy. Not noted on the menu. I was expecting just a normal meatball. One of the staff came over and said it was just the sauce but.... not true. I scraped off every bit of sauce and the meat itself was super spicy. And the breadsticks were overcooked, dry, and very chewy like they were over worked? We didn't eat them. *Steak - On the menu it says they will not guarantee to cook your steak to order if you ask for medium well or above. Really? My friend absolutely LOVES a well done steak and although I don't think it's the way to eat a steak, it's HER preference and she's paying for it. So .... if she wants a well done steak and is paying $$$, that' s exactly what she should get. Most other restaurants are very accommodating to personal preferences of the customer. *Dessert falls into both categories - it was tasty. The brownie came with ice cream coated in grahams and a marshmallow base....all good and s'more like. But I have to say the big brownie was a bit dry. That being said, it tasted pretty good and none went to waste. *To end the evening, I slid my foot forward a bit to push my chair out so I could leave. My toe came near to the leg or base of the table, and something jutting out from the leg of the table cut into my toe. I wish I had looked to see what metal was sticking out - is the leg studded, sharp, a nail??? In any event, it went right into my toe and I was bleeding ...a lot ...and I had to go to the restroom to clean it up and also had to pull over on the way home to clean it again and wrap it. Wasn't happy about this obviously. I may or may not come back to this restaurant. I haven't tired the other floors, but I'm leaning towards not, but you never know! If I go back and have a different experience I will revise. Maybe it was just an off night ....time will tell!! read more

We were seated quickly and our server was great about putting in kids orders with our drinks. This was a child-friendly place, and the views were great. We had a variety of dishes that were good. As I go to write this review of my meal tonight at Mission Boathouse, I realized that I posted a very sadly similar review a year ago. Oh dear. I can get past the parking woes, for the view is so lovely. We dined with dear friends who were there for the first time. Our waitress was lovely, and tried so hard on this busy Wednesday, but all of our entrees were truly terrible. The salmon tacos may have had 2 oz of salmon. My love had a difficult time finding it. Not hyperbole. The carbonara was unimpressive, the taco salad looked slimy in its taco bowl (the best looking aspect of our meal). My scampi had four large, fat, perfect;y cooked shrimp. The pasta however, had no flavor whatsoever, and was swimming in hot water. Likely pasta water. And a lot of it. With a very stale "focaccia stick." I asked for butter, garlic, salt and parm to try to add some flavor but to no avail. It was truly unappetizing, without any garlic flavor, a tiny bit of lemon juice and sad chunks of tomato floating in the deep pool of pasta water (which was very obviously UNSALTED, a mortal sin). I'm so sad about this, but it's unlikely these locals will darken their door again. There are too many good to great options in this area to spend this much for a bad meal. read more

Usually give a new place a few weeks to work out the kinks, but since we've been waiting 25 years for a waterfront restaurant in Beverly had to try it the first weekend. And it did not disappoint. Atmosphere and service were great. Food (we had the tuna tartare, salmon and pork chops) were all pretty tasty and plentiful-much better than we'd experienced at the Swampscott location. Great local beer and cocktail list. Anxious to go back at a time we can appreciate the awesome view, which should rival any waterfront view on the North Shore. read more

We have been to this place 3x so far and are planning to return today. We are locals and can easily walk right over. The food has always been consistent, and the service has been good to great depending on the day and time. I tend to stick to the Sushi as there are several things on there I really like! The views are fabulous and the ambiance is excellent. The beer and wine selection are very good! A few points to make: 1. Is it expensive, others have stated as such; honestly, I find it comparable to the prices of similar establishments in the surrounding Beverly/Salem area. 2. If you have an issue, speak up and don't just write a nasty review. We had one time where we had an issue with one of our entrees, we told our server, they immediately fixed the issue and very kindly gave us a round of drinks at no charge. (They wanted to take it off the bill and we declined because the second time it came out it was absolutely fabulous!!!) Give them a chance to rectify it! 3. I recommend the bar on the second floor or the top floor for the best views and ambiance. 4. Yes, it is loud; but that is part of the vibe, it is a vibrant lively environment. read more
