They do top quality repair work. They are honest and upfront on what needs to be done. Back in January, we noticed that our car was leaking some type of fluids, and over heating. In a panic, we stopped by Square Deal, and they were to take us even though they were super busy that day. A few days later we had our car back with all the necessary repairs done. Fast forward to last Friday, I noticed some fluids leaking under the front of the car again. I took my car to Square Deal, and they ran all the necessary diagnostics and found nothing leaking or any broken hoses. It turned out to be condensation from the AC. The pricing is competitive and if they see something else that needs to be done other than the original issues, they would call and let me know before proceeding with the repairs. They are a family owned and local and conveniently located in downtown Pinole. Brian and Paunch(sp?) are super nice, helpful and knowledgeable. I can't say enough about Square Deal Garage. First they charged me $1400 for a brake job that glitched two days later I had to get a $500 tow from Oakland. when they were done working on the truck, they informed me that they had to disable the emergency brakes and recommended I buy a wedge. A couple years later, my truck broke down just a mile from their shop so I had it towed there. Again, the charge was $1400 for a new water pump. the work did not hold. A screw came off, water flooded the engine, and this time they informed me I needed a new engine and returned the truck to me (with a $100 diagnostic fee). he kept saying the numbers don't lie when honestly their numbers did not align with what Cortez auto showed me. I brought the car in around 9am, they confirmed my suspicion on what needed to be done, they got the part delivered to them by 1030am, then started working on the car and I picked it up by 2pm. They go to lunch from 12:30-1:30 (I think) so I'm assuming the car was done prior to lunch and they just wrapped up after they got back from lunch. The price for the repair was super reasonable! Compared to other shop quotes, this was a no brainer. The shop has been family owned for the past 30 years. They've gained a new customer(s) out of my wife and I. Had an appointment first thing in the morning booked a few days ahead - got there and waited said they didn't have the parts and said they will order them, I waited from 9am-1pm, just for the brakes. Coming here has cost me more since, I had to go to another shop after noticing my car was making noises and I was told that the wrong lug nuts were put in for my wheels, and there were also missing lug nuts for all the wheels. I was also told that whoever replaced them used poor quality brake pads which easily burns out my pads, thus, increasing dust on my rims. NFS tires had me waiting for hours just to give me cheap pads. I was told that it was a good thing I towed my car to the other shop since I was close to losing a wheel. I wish I could get a refund for the poor service and almost causing my life to an accident that could've occurred.

I got a dead batter and asked that they look at this, and they fought tooth and nail; "we didn't touch your battery." So J&E was recommended and I am so glad they were. Short version: At first, it appeared my alternator was intermittently not working correctly. $1700 later and I still got 3 dead batteries over the following weekend. Turns out, the 2024 Odyssey battery had a dead cell. Warranty replaced for free, and the Truck is back in service. I can't recommend J&E higher, and they are now my new auto shop for life!
