I live in the area and wanted to see what the hype was about. I've gone on a weekend for the bar atmosphere, which is fun and reminds me of college. I went for dinner on a Tuesday evening and found the experience mediocre. The margarita was by far the best part. The cauliflower appetizer was good, but the taco salad was worse than anything I could make myself and far more expensive - grocery store mixed greens, shredded Mexican blend cheese (you know the one), a run of the mill cilantro-lime dressing, and under seasoned veggies poorly cooked. The salad was also covered in chips, which kinda defeats the purpose of a salad for me. Service was slow and the servers and hosts seemed extremely disinterested in everything despite being pretty busy on a Tuesday. I understand it's stressful working in a restaurant but watching tik tok probably won't help that. If I go again, I will make sure to go at happy hour, not dinner. read more

The food was average food, and the noise level was a bit too high, so you couldn't even have a conversation even though we were sitting outside. We went on a Saturday afternoon for an early lunch. We decided not to go for the bottomless brunch or the bottomless drinks. We ordered one pitcher of orange mimosa because some in the party of 4 did not drink. The guy who attended our table was slow, seemed new, and all was over the place. The food was average. When we asked for the bill, I saw three bottomless portions charged $27.99 each. I said that we did ala carte and this was wrong; he goes, this has nothing to do with the food; it's for the drinks. I said, even if that is the case, we only had ONE pitcher! He goes, I put in what I was told by the server. I was like that is wrong, and we specifically told him we were ordering ala carte and only had one pitcher. He said I am sorry for the miscommunication, but I can't do anything. I asked him to ask his manager who came, and they spoke, and then he came over and said again that he couldn't do anything. I found that ridiculous and asked him to call her over. She comes and listens to us and then pretends that it will be hard for her to address this, which is ridiculous! Anyway, she adjusted the bill; the guy returned with the new/corrected bill and said, sorry for the miscommunication. I still tipped him. They server was incredibly attentive from the moment we arrived until we left despite a packed house. Drinks and appetizers were excellent. Great guacamole. We all got tacos except my wife, who got shrimp fajitas. All good. The server saw a present for our granddaughter for her birthday the next day and brought a plate of churros with a candle. I owe this place two reviews: one for my birthday happy hour and the other for my recent brunch visit with friends. The restaurant has such an upbeat vibe once you walk in. It's a two story restaurant which is very unique for dc restaurants. They offered my party extended happy hour specials and even designated a table for my friends and guests. I highly recommend having your event here! Now, for brunch: this place gets another five stars not only because their chips and salsas are the bomb (they give you two kinds - tomatillo and roja); but also because the menu appeals to all kinds of diets (vegan to omnivore). I brought my two friends who were vegan here and we all were happy! I'm honestly shocked at all the 5 star reviews? Everything was very mediocre. When we called ahead to get a reservation, they told us they don't take reservations - but then when we arrived, they asked if we had a reservation? So that was confusing. Luckily we were able to get seated at an outdoor table during peak brunch hours at 1:30pm on a Saturday, but unfortunately it got super windy right around that time, and our table was TINY! As in, it could barely fit our food and drinks on there. Ironically, they had cards on the table that stated all their COVID rules - one of which was that all the tables have been placed 6 feet apart. This was definitely not true as I saw tables that were maybe 3 feet apart max, not including the chairs. I got the buffalo shrimp and chicken tacos and shared a mimosa pitcher with my friend. Both of the tacos were pretty bland and just overall unimpressive. The chicken taco was especially flavorless and my tortilla fell apart almost immediately. The buffalo shrimp taco was surprisingly dry and not super buffalo-y, and whatever dressing they used tasted store-bought. When I ordered I had asked for a side of their ancho aioli, but the food arrived without the aioli and without napkins/silverware. We had to flag our waitress down to ask her for these. The chips and salsa (which are not complimentary) were pretty good, the salsa was a bit on the sweeter side but the chips were nice and thick and crispy. The wine glasses for our mimosas were extremely water stained and foggy, which is not a huge deal but certainly not super appealing either. The mimosas were probably the best part of the meal - they weren't that special, but $20 for a decent sized pitcher is not bad! My friend who frequents this location said that their brunch deal used to include bottomless mimosas and food, but unfortunately no longer does, which is why we opted to just share the pitcher instead. Just finished a post-Nats game birthday celebration for my daughter. Great food, but horrible service and wheelchair users be advised you're not at all welcome here. Yes, there's an elevator to get to the 2nd floor, where our pre-reserved table was located on the balcony. But it was blocked by a party of 6 that needed to be moved in order to access it. Yes, the table was intentionally placed six inches from the front door of the elevator. Repeated apologies were made to the able-bodied folks needing to be relocated, but not to me. Upon arriving on the second floor, we were informed only high-top tables were available on the balcony outside. A request to replace the high-top with a low top table was met with a scoff by the host. Turns out only high top tables exist on the second floor...a clear Americans with Disabilities Act violation. Service was slow and unapologetic. They were clearly unprepared for the post-game rush. On the positive side, the food was fantastic. Drinks were generous pours and well prepared. After spending $250+ dollars, we deserved better. As a new restaurant, the accessibility violations are inexcusable. We won't be back. read more

a great spot to go to if you're with a larger group of people and want a good mixed vibe! it's a huge place so usually lots of room and there's usually tables available which is great! there isn't like a dance floor area really but they play great music and the vibes are dancy still. on a weeknight it's a lively place and they serve food till $11. the food is amazing but SO expensive ($6 PER taco and $10 queso...wild). on a weeknight i'd stick to mostly beer or simple mixed drinks, the cocktails were lacking a little but it was busy so understandable. the servers and bouncers are really nice though and the crowd is usually great and lively! fun spot to go with friends. read more

We had a large group at Mission Navy Yard today (May 3): about 30 of us. Kicking off the Cinco de Mayo weekend today! This place exceeded my expectations on every level. My first time here: sadly, i moved out of DC into Old Town Alexandria because...well...I'm older now! But i so miss DC and Mission makes it easy for me to come back again and again. -incredible service by the bartender and staff. They were running food out to us like we had not been fed in weeks! Seriously, the chips & salsa were some of the best I have ever eaten. Always on the quest for great chips & salsa. Everyone had a smile and they work so hard. -The food for the large groups - they do NOT make small portions. Their nachos..l am not kidding...my eyes rolled back in my head. Then, the quesadillas! FULL. BIG. even better, they taste incredible and served with this ( apologies to the chef) crema that i devoured. -Coooold beer. I've been here a couple times for one of the best, most affordable brunches in the city. It's not as much of a party as some brunch places in DC are but the bottomless margaritas, mimosas, and bloody marys certainly make it feel like it. The mexi-bennies are definitely my favorite dish, and the well-seasoned potatoes that accompany them are to die for. I personally am searching for another brunch spot that offers this level of great drinks, food, and fun for the affordable price of the bottomless brunch at Mission. I returned for the food and great service, and will definitely do so more in the future. read more

It was so crowded before the Springsteen concert. We'd made a reservation and sat outside. Earnest, our server, was fantastic. He never rushed us, but took special care to make sure one person's allergies were taken seriously. He got all of our drink and dinner orders correct and kept the service steady, friendly and timely. My school hosted our staff holiday happy hour here on Friday and we truly had an amazing time! Reserving our space was a breeze. Dora and Megan were both incredibly responsive and helpful to my inquiry. Upon arrival to Mission our section was clearly marked and allowed ample space from my group to mix and mingle...a must during Covid. You HAVE to try the Mission margaritas. They are strong and my absolute favorite in the city. Also try the chicken nachos and the loaded waffle fries. You'll get a huge portion for a really reasonable price. I was here about a week ago and Dora (I think she's in charge of events not quite sure but she's awesome) helped a us immensely at ur group Happy hour! I truly appreciate her for her help as we did not realize until late that we scheduled a group happy hour the day of a Nats game! There was so much traffic and people. We had a section on the bottom floor to the side bar that was perfect for us. The bartenders also made sure our drinks and w/e we ordered cake in a timely manner. It was actually quite impressive to see what appeared to be a seamless and efficient workflow. My friend was literally there the day before. That's how good of a place it is. You shamelessly will come back more than once a week because of the overall experience and atmosphere. Fast forward I decided to come back this past Thursday for happy hour once again. I decided to sit at the bar upstairs This place is a pretty big space. The majority of the upstairs level is one huge bar and one of the biggest I've seen in DC. Downstairs, upstairs and back room. I think the owner really thought about the anticipated crowd for the games, general traffic, and events. There were 4 events going on (2 on each floor) upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs level was closed. Pros: location, just a few feet from the navy hard metro station and across the street from the Nat's baseball stadium. Layout of the bar and appearance is great l. Big enough for a small or large group. The second floor has bar in the back room. That's a total of 3 bars in one establishment with tables as well. None of the bars were small requiring you to be "metro close" to your neighbor. There's enough room to enjoy yourself and be comfortable. Quesadilla's were amazing I added chicken to mine and it came out to $12. The drinks were also great at $8 for a margarita and lemonade drink and include the right amount of alcohol. The upstairs has an outside area. I guess the door to the side of the bar are opened to allow more space. It was raining the first time I went and cold the next so I was not able to experience this. I do believe it's a great benefit especially if you are unable to attend a game but still want the park feel or just to enjoy a wonderful sunny day. Cons - although the food and drinks were great I thought they were pricey for happy hour but given the location I can understand. My drinks both times had a salt taste to them which I thought was strange. I mentioned it on Thursday to the bartender. My second drink did not have the weird salt rim taste. I'm not sure if this is due to the salt around the rims and whether or not this is lingering after the cups are cleaned or if there was a mistake in the tap but I noticed this both upstairs and downstairs. That's was the only negative of both experiences was the salt taste in my drink although I never had salt in the rim for any cup. I brought 2 happy hour drinks at $8 and a quesadilla. Yesterday(Cinco De Mayo) was my second time coming to Missions. First time was two weeks ago for the brunch. The brunch was good and the bottomless definitely was bottomless. Cinco De Mayo ON A FRIDAY isn't for the weak and this establishment showed out!! Our server was DAVE and he was AMAZING!!! He was working multiple tables last night and each table had 4 or more ppl(some tables had close to if not more than 10 ppl) and he literally NEVER missed a beat! The food was good. Definitely shout out to the kitchen staff because the orders (many of them were huge orders) were coming out back to back. Our table was kept clean, no dishes remained on the table longer than 5 minutes. As soon as we was done with was dish it was immediately removed. All the staff was amazing for sure and super polite. I don't know if they trained for Cinco De Mayo or what but they did a A++ job yesterday. I'll definitely be returning AGAIN! read more

This location has two floors and is located in a pretty nice section of town. Quite literally across the street from the Nationals stadium. I honestly don't have a great review. I will start with hospitality. The hostesses upstairs and down were actually quite pleasant. However, I am unsure if the wait staff was having an off day or just are not morning people. The beginning of the exchange for us was rough and even for a table in our section their waitress wasn't super hospitable either. If you want a casual Mexican spot with an energies bar, lots of tvs and great food. This is your spot. It's definitely louder than most places so don't go here if you're looking for a quiet spot. We had the queso, buffalo chicken tacos, and chicken and shrimp fajitas. The queso is to die for. I know I will be craving it again. It was flavored perfectly and there was a great portion. The tacos were good too and the fajitas were delicious but the portion was much smaller than expected. The chimichurri sauce that comes with the fajitas was also very good. I was really excited to try mission after settling into DC. I had heard great reviews, especially for brunch. It started out great. Service was wonderful and it was nice to have a pitcher of water to refill our own. The portions were great for the price point and the ingredients were light and fresh yet filling. The downfalls were the orange crush and mistakes in food. For $9, the drink had a good amount of alcohol but wasn't a classic orange crush. It tasted like watered down vodka and orange juice, and was in the same cup as the small cups given for water. As stated, the food was delicious. I had the tinga bowl and my partner the breakfast burrito. We both loved our food, but realized that we had been charged $15 for the burrito rather than $14 as the menu stated. We figured the $1 wasn't worth the fuss, so we left. I realized upon returning home that not only had we been overcharged or mischarged for the burrito, but it also didn't come with the home fries as also stated on the menu. Not sure if there were menu changes not accurately reflected or just a mistake by the kitchen, but it makes the $1 overcharge a bit of a bigger deal. This was by far the easiest place I have ever hosted an event! I was able to block off the South Capital Bar and fit about 50 people, come and go. Happy hour is 4-6pm even on the weekends which made it even better. There is no down payment or minimum to reserve space, which is a rarity in the city. Fritz had great communication and kept me posted on all updates leading up to the day of the event. You can never go wrong with the food, especially their bottomless brunch on the weekends. Huge, open bar that caters to all tastebuds and vibes. Definitely recommend for the EASE of hosting events, their killer margs and delish food! read more

The food was great. I had my very first jalapeño margarita and I highly recommend it! I went on a Saturday afternoon and it's very busy and extremely loud. The most interesting thing that happened while I was there was that I was asked for a credit/debit card to keep before I ordered. I'm not sure what would've happened if I was paying in cash. When I asked why my card was requested in advance I was told that they've been having issues with people skipping out on the bill. Understandable. Okay. I didn't come here wanting to write a great review of this place. But I had a lot of fun. And so here I am, writing a great review of Mission. Remember those frat parties you went to in college? Yeah, the same vibe is here. Not being the fratstar myself, I was skeptical of the raucous atmosphere and drinking debauchery, however I was quickly won over by the strong drinks and surprisingly delicious food. My group of three came on a baseball night. Note that this place gets packed (obviously), so expect a wait or walk around trying to find seats. We found a set of stools at the lower bar where the staff was incredibly helpful. We ordered loaded nachos, and holy guacamole (literally, ha) they were awesome. Flavorful, crispy and full of yummy pork protein. I'd get this every day if it wasn't the best for my overall well being. We also ordered drinks--I had the raspberry mint lemonade on tap, which was surprisingly good and not overly sweet for being pre-mixed. They have Casamigos blanco (owned by George Cloony and known for being good tequila) as a discounted shot during happy hour. I despise the taste of tequila, but the Mission staff put it into a shooter that actually tasted great. Color me impressed. I wouldn't make this my normal go-to spot, but the Mission staff know what they are doing with their food and drinks. Just know this isn't a hot date spot on a baseball game evening and attracts your bro friends who want to chug beer while criticizing the pitcher of whatever team happens to be playing. This was an awesome spot for dinner! My boyfriend and I ate here the first night we got to DC. We didn't have a reservation, so they said it would be an hour wait unless we wanted to sit outside. Although steamy we opted to sit outside. (GOOD CHOICE!) The little patio was so sweet and intimate. My boyfriend and I were the only ones out there and it was almost like the perfect little date night. Drinks were good and we loved having the water on the table for refills when needed. Stopped in before a flight to Vegas. Really cool spot with exceptional service. I was greeted by Kyle who was really nice and went to the bar to be served by Mitchell, such a sweetheart. The food is the missing star for me. While everything "taste" good, there was a miss of hot to cold items...I ordered avocado toast and the bread was cold and not really toasted. The potatoes were also cold and not crispy. The steak taco was also cold. While I would have preferred the "hot" items to be so, everything was still really tasty. We held our wedding's welcome party at Mission on a Friday evening. Working with them to secure a semi-private space was extremely easy. The space was perfect for a informal cocktail/happy hour. All the food was decisions and drinks were great too. The event coordinator checked in on us during the event and also followed up after. I'm really sad to write this review because I have had great experiences in the past at Mission. That is why I am taking this specific one with a grain of salt because of the great service I have gotten in the past, pre covid. My friend and I arrived to watch a football game-- we arrived an hour prior to kick off at around 6:30. We did not have a reservation but the hostess said she was still able to seat us no problem. We chatted for a little about how we were excited for the game, etc. She was super nice. We got seated at a table downstairs. She came over about 5 minutes later (6:35pm) and said that they had a reservation coming to the table at 7:30, which is when the game we were there for started, and asked if she could move us upstairs. I did not mind that at all and we said it was no problem. We closed out downstairs when the time came to move and went upstairs. This is when the real problems unfolded. Our new waitress immediately seemed irritated that we moved into her section-- not sure if it was because we had closed out downstairs, if she was having a bad day... unknown, but I was put off by her sour attitude towards us. During the second quarter, we ordered a pitcher of drinks with her and then 10 minutes later, she approached us and said that we had "to leave because everyone has said we have been here for 4 hours and there is a 2.5 hour limit." 1) The way she said this to us was completely inappropriate and abrasive so I felt very uncomfortable, 2) If there was a 2.5 hour limit for each table, this should have been disclosed to us when we arrived at the restaurant, especially if they knew we were there to watch the game, 3) If this was true, it was frustrating that she knowingly let us order another huge pitcher of drinks right before we were "supposed to leave." I told her that we had only been there for around 2 hours so I was confused as to who was this "everyone" that was telling her we were there for longer. She left and then came back with the original hostess who sat us who said that we were okay to stay and that there was a miscommunication between upstairs and downstairs. She brought over a free shot as an "apology" for the situation, but at that point, I was so uncomfortable with the way I was talked to and the whole situation was handled. We left shortly after because neither of us wanted to be there anymore and the experience was ruined. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the food is good and I have had good experiences pre covid, but this experience has made me not want to come back, especially for the near future. Just overall disappointed with the way we were treated as customers-- I hope the communication between staff is fixed and it does not fall onto their visitors in the future. read more
