I really enjoyed this place! Was looking for some good eats on yelp after visiting museums and came across Mission.. Our server was really nice and attentive, the decor was nice as well, food was great and fresh, drinks were cheap and strong! I originally had a taste for a margarita on the sweeter side but when it came out very strong I couldn't be mad lol most places skimp on the liquor but they definitely don't. This place is good for a nice hang out before a ball game or if you're in the Navy Yard area. The Mexican food is pretty good, particularly the tacos - the balcony is a nice option if the weather is right. I'm not a taco fan, but the rockfish tacos are certainly on my top taco list. (I wouldn't recommend the wings as an all-star item, but why are you ordering the wings at a Mexican restaurant anyway?) If you want a great experience, the secret is that there is covid-friendly seating by the bar. Just make sure that you ask for Rae - one of the friendliest bartenders in the area. read more

Just wrapped up a 100+ person holiday party and the event was a huge success, thanks to the event and restaurant staff. We had the downstairs plaza bar and nook, which could hold our party and have enough room to breathe, two food stations, and a registration table. Went here for the brunch option. Not very many brunch items to choose from, but the drink selection is great because you can get bottomless margaritas, mimosas or beer as long as you order food. In the past, I loved coming here. Until I went for cinco de mayo with my girls. We had come early and was enjoying our time until a man came up to us out of no where and threw his drink in our face. Straight liquor all in my eyes. We never seen or encountered this man before. Not only did he throw his drink in our face, he pushed me and my friend with all his strength when we defended ourselves. Security kicked us out, protected too short, and let him stay inside. After review of the tape, management and security stated he was getting kicked out due to seeing he threw the drink in our face, but short shot never came out. I hosted an event here last weekend, and it was amazing! Megan and Dora from the events team were awesome to work with during the planning process. They were quick to respond to every question, and we were able to handle everything online (so helpful, since I live in Texas!). The day of the event could not have been better. We had about 35 people in the Cactus Room, which was perfect. They had everything set up and ready for us well before the start time of our event. The private bathroom, coat rack, and balcony were awesome extras that the guests loved. Dora also checked in with me several times as we were getting set up to make sure we were on the same page about details and timing. Lastly, our bartender, Alex, and all the staff who helped with service were awesome. Everything ran smoothly, and the food was so good. Our guests were raving about the crazy cauli, tacos, guac, and churros!! I am so glad we decided on Mission for our party! I can't wait to come back for a meal next time I'm in town. read more

Been here many times since it opened up in the neighborhood. It has been hit and miss these last several months. Sometimes the drinks are great and sometimes the drinks coming out of the tap are too sweet. At times the food is prepared well and other times it is too salty. They play the NFL games on Sunday, but despite having many TVs they sometimes don't have all the games on. For example, one Sunday they had some random exercise equipment infomercial on. They will gladly change the TV to the NFL game you want if no one else is watching what is on the TV, but it is not always quick since only one or two people have control of doing so. Later at night (at least on Friday and Saturday) they play music and shut off the TVs. The music is pretty good, but they play at high volumes on some nights. So loud you have to raise your voice considerably unless you want to head out to the balcony. If you have never been it is worth checking out, especially during happy hour times occurring twice each day. read more

I was in the area for an appointment and stopped in for dinner because I was told the Birria tacos here were good. They were. The service here was not impressive. I had paid for two drinks and my dinner and decided to have one more drink as I was having a rough week. The manager rang me up and I signed the bill/. The drink charge was in line with the other drinks and I didn't think anything of it, I thought it is Halloween and maybe they extended their happy hour prices by an hour. The manager disappears and the other bar tender comes and tells me the manager called him and told him he charges me wrong and asked him to redo my bill...which I had already signed and tipped and finalized. I said that I would not be signing any more bills and that his error was his and the whole situation was rude. I left and the manager came to the corner and apologized and offers to give me a free drink if I wanted to come back. While that was nice. I just got home and checked my bill and see that they have charged me for the original amount and the other amount in addition to the dinner and drinks. I hope the $3 error he made is worth the review and the fact that I will not recommend this business or return. read more

Had a last minute venue change for a party because of weather, and Fritz made it all happen for us! Great set up, quick and easy communication, and exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend - love how many options I was presented with, and it all was seamless. Had my first, of what I expect to be many, trip to Mission after a recent Nats game. We only sampled a couple margaritas and a few tacos but we were definitely pleased with what we had and the service was fine as well. The restaurant/bar is massive with a small bar downstairs and multiple bars upstairs including a dining area, a private room, and an outdoor patio with some high top tables. The upstairs has a very open feel to it with seating all the way around the large bar and garage doors cranked up to create an open air bar. It is right across from Nats stadium so I expect lots of folks to come here before/after games but it is worth coming to on any day/night out. The margaritas on tap were very good as were all 3 tacos we had. We did the steak, buffalo shrimp, and chorizo tacos - I'd highly recommend the buffalo chicken and steak though the chorizo was good as well. Will definitely be back, very soon. read more

I've been here twice - once for brunch seated at a high top by the bar and again for dinner on a Saturday night. I'm giving 4 stars because the food is consistently high quality, which you can't say about everywhere else in DC. I would say the food is on par with Mi Vida by the Wharf, but the menu is simpler food and atmosphere/crowd is different. I've tried several dishes and impressed by most (although the fish tacos were fried which I didn't expect, would have preferred broiled or grilled). Even though the food is great, there are certainly still things here that stand to be improved (or just adjust your expectations). It seems to be always crowded, or I always come on a busy day. The Saturday night we came for dinner, there was such a huge bar scene with sports on the TVs and you could barely hear people sitting right next to you. It wasn't just slightly loud, it was excruciatingly loud all around and you had to fight through crowds of people just to get to the table in the dining area. So, if you're hoping to hear people next to you, would definitely not come here with that expectation. Also, when you eat brunch at the hightops you have to get up to order at the bar, which is kind of annoying no one can just come over to the table and get your order or check on you once or twice. But, it is what it is. Overall, I like this place, and I'll probably be back again. read more

Update on 08/24: We returned to Mission on the invite of management, before a Nats game. With our expectations in check after the last visit, we decided on "just one drink" and headed over. You guys, I thought I had walked into a different bar. While it was still loud, the music was at a much more appropriate level. The many conversations happening echoed a lot, meaning it was still noisy, but after two very large groups left, we could talk comfortably. Service: We were served by the manager, Kelly, but were also approached by several of the bartenders to check on us and make sure we had been helped. We heard those around us getting similar service. Drinks: I ordered the Strawberry Basil Margarita. It was tasty and refreshing. A little strong on the first few sips, but that's probably because I decided to forego the salt rim. My SO went with Tequila Mockingbird, made with spicy tequila. It has a bite! The drink was delicious though. So delicious, that we decided to stay for another round. Food: We didn't try the food the first time, but guacamole, hot queso, and chips were on the menu this time. The guacamole was okay, just standard guac. The queso, however! I could've swam in it! We are our body weight in chips. And then they brought us a second basket. I'm adding a star thanks to this delightful pre-game but can't confidently give that fifth star until I know this service and quality is consistent. Hopefully, our future trips will be just as wonderful. Original review 07/15: We were invited to the soft opening of the new Mission location on July 13. I know there are kinks to work out, so this review is my baseline to be taken with a grain (or rim) of salt. Location: Located about a block from Nats park, I image it may get quite busy before and after games. It's an easy walk from the metro, though. The surrounding area leaves a lot to be desired, with a view of a parking garage and dialysis clinic from the upstairs dining area. Interior: Guys, this place is HUGE. Every time I thought we had found the end, it kept going. There are four distinct rooms on the top floor. The first (and largest) appears to be a bar only area. The other three areas vary in privacy. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with these spaces for private events. Along the top floor are many small balconies. This is where we spent a majority of our evening, since the weather was amazing. I'm hoping that these balconies are open for dinner service, because it would work well for a dinner for two. Ambiance: Ok, so I know the first night of a soft opening is a celebration, but I hope that's all this was. The DJ was bumping, which is great... for a dance club. Everyone was yelling to make themselves heard and the noise level contributed to our decision to hang outside instead. The noise carried throughout the entire establishment, including down the the first floor. Drinks: The bar was operating on a limited preview menu, which I would assume to mean the best drinks were being highlighted. The menu advertised a pretty nice happy hour, but despite being in the time frame, the HH prices were not honored. Why print a special menu to include specials that you aren't honoring?? My original choice (Mint Lemonade) was "sold out" by the time we arrived, a mere hour after opening, so I went with a Sangria. It was somehow both sweet and watered down at the same time. The fruit was non-existent. My SO ordered a Mission Margarita, expecting consistency with the drink at their other location. It was decent, but definitely not worth the fifteen minute wait and $10 price tag. Service: There were two bartenders at the bar we ordered from. One made eye contact with me three times but never acknowledged me. The second finally came over and took our order, but only after fighting with their POS system for a few minutes. Overall, I'm hoping to see this place thrive. We love the Misson in DuPont and are hoping that the same great service and quality will follow to Navy Yard.
