Stayed in Avila beach for two days so was looking for food nearby the beach. One of the few restaurants located near the pier, we saw the myriad of pizza options and the fact that many people ordered takeout here. We ordered the following pizzas: 1. Apple Cheddar: 6/10 The combination intrigued me so we decided to give it a try! The apple was sweet and was a good offset compared to the cheesy pizza. I do wish it was more apple compared to cheddar because it got too salty halfway since the cheese was overpowering. Regardless, it was still a good pizza. 2. Chicken Pesto: 8/10 This was a solid pizza. The chicken was cooked and seasoned well and the mushrooms, olives, and scallions gave it a nice crunch. Overall, the pizzas were really delicious and I liked how it was cooked fresh off the grill. The pizzas were HUGE though fair warning-- we had ordered a large 16" for a party of three and had leftovers. Would recommend ordering a medium instead if you didn't want leftovers. Actually good pizza, one of the few restaurants in Avila that is not a tourist trap, gave 4/5 because it shares a kitchen with custom house, I would come back for the pizza only, the starters and other options remind me of glorified frozen foods. This was one of the few places near our hotel that was open. Placed our order online, estimated pick up time was 15 minutes later, however it was not ready at the time stated, and we ended up waiting another 10 minutes or so. The restaurant was uncomfortably warm inside. At the ordering counter, there was a warmer with pizza slices on display & they looked old and dry...not good signs :( Once we got back to the hotel, realized that the dessert we ordered was missing; decided it wasn't worth the hassle to drive back or complain. The appetizers (hot wings and stuffed jalapeños) were good, but the pizza (kitchen sink) was "mid" as my son kept saying. It had plenty of toppings: red sauce, three cheeses, pepperoni, salami, Italian sausage, Linguicia, sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, red onions, and black olives, but seemed a bit undercooked. This is always a go to when we are visiting Avila. The service differs every time we go. For the most part, they are friendly. We don't stay for the ambiance because there really isn't any. People are in and out and it gets crowded. We prefer taking our food to the beach or going back to the hotel room. As for the food, my favorite is the calamari. This is the only place I go for calamari and if they ever stop serving it, I honestly probably wouldn't come back. Fish and chips are good with their tartar sauce. Pizza is okay- we got the pepperoni. Wings were pretty good. Clam chowder was flavorless. All in all, I recommend this place! read more

I would not recommend this place. I have always been a loyal customer, but after my last order, I will never go back. We ordered a chicken pizza to go and I found a good chunk of hair under the chicken. That is not ok. It appeared to be strategically placed under the chicken. We didn't touch the fries and ate the fish and calamari. $18.99 for fish and $18.99 for calamari was a bit steep. The best pizza near the beach! I've been coming here for over 8 years and I always stop here for a nice, delicious pie. The Loaded Potato and the Pulled Pork are top shelf! Fish and chips, Calamari, and the sandos are to die for. I usually stay at the vacation rentals next door to them, so its just an easy walk down the stairs when I make my order. The staff is friendly and inviting, and some of them will even say hi after their shift when I'm on the balcony of the rental around 9pm when the restaurant closes. After that, I relax with a nice red wine from the Wine Co downstairs and take in the quiet, peaceful atmosphere of the ocean breeze and the sound of the sea. 10/10 (I took a pic of the loaded potato after I ate half because it was calling my name!) We really enjoyed the pizza and were pleasantly surprised at how thin the crust was! We have been coming to Avila for several years and kept missing this gem. I was expecting a sit-down place but it's not! You go up to the window to order, wait, then go pick it up at the other window and enjoy it! We ordered the Maui Wowie and The Kitchen Sink and both were good. What I did enjoy the most was that the pizza was not greasy and the flavors were really good. Mission pizza is located right near front street in Avila Beach. My family has been coming to Avila every summer for the past 6-7 years and the pizza place is right next to the vacation rentals we stay at. Up until about a year ago, mission pizza had the best clam chowder in Avila. Avila is a pretty small place but many restaurants there try to do clam chowder but they don't do it well. Just the last couple of years, the quality of the food has gone way down. We have also gotten pizzas from this place and while they are ok, they definitely are not good. That being said, if you've ever been to Avila, you know there are very limited food options in town which normally forces people to either leave Avila to go eat, cook on your own, or suffer through the low quality food options in town. Also notoriety is the closing staff at mission pizza that are very loud and rude to people. There are vacation rentals that share the alley with the restaurants custom house and mission pizza. The pizza place closes shop at 10 pm, however staff continue to make excessive amounts of noise until 1 in the morning. Every year a group of family and friends come to Avila and anyone who stays above the aforementioned alley gets zero sleep because of the workers at custom house and mission pizza. The typical sounds you'll experience are chucking of glass bottles being dumped in the dumpsters, dropping of kegs, yelling/shouting of profanities, drunks "singing" and conversation. The quiet times according to the county is supposed to start between 10-1030, but these disruptions continue way past midnight and start up again before 7 am. When we have tried to speak with the workers, we were ignored and in some cases yelled at. The most disturbing experience happened this past weekend on Saturday 7/27 in which a couple renters witnessed one of the restaurant workers snorting drugs in the alleyway on his break. The only reason we happened to see it was because of all the noise of glass being thrown in the alley. This is a very unfortunate situation because we all like the food at custom house and mission pizza... but because of the experience we have had with the staff at these establishments, we no longer will support these restaurants by dining there. This year we also had some new borns and younger kids on the trip with us which also suffered from sleep deprivation because of the custom house and mission pizza staff. This made for some challenging days of cranky family and friends. To be 100% transparent, because of the restaurant staff, it ruined a large portion of the trip. Such an unfortunate situation overall. My hope is that the management/leadership team at these restaurants can work to train their team members to have more respect for themselves, the business they represent and just for other human beings in general. read more

We took it back to our resort across the street (total time from getting order to sitting down to eat under 15 minutes) and the food was lukewarm. It should have still been piping hot. Ketchup was requested for fries that came with sandwich and that wasn't given. Flavor of everything was rather mediocre. We got to try this place on one of our stays in Avila and it was nice. It's on the around the corner from the custom house . We had ordered ahead on the phone and just walked from our hotel down to the big window they have for ordering or pick ups . I am not sure if they offer seating inside but from the look of it if they did it's every minimal seating. The pizza pepperoni pizza $14.50, a order of fries $6, a cup of chowder $8, and a garden salad $9 with ranch on the side. The pizza was good and not too doughy, the clam chowder was better than what we had at the custom house which is weird cause I am not sure if they are connect but I will say get it from here instead. The salad was really big and super yummy. We would definitely come here again. As we wandered the many shops here on the waterfront, one mission was already completed for us; lunch. It's good to the last bite. The pizza is delicious and one of the special offerings from the menu with ham, pepperoni, and sausage. On our visit we only have sampled the pizza and salad offerings. The pizzas are all made in house down to the dough itself. The ingredients that are used are of the highest quality. The salad pairing was delicious next to the pizza. As we eat piece after piece of pizza the pie gets smaller and smaller. Time for a refill on beer. A cold one always makes the best kind of pizza pairing. Many options were available for those that seek beer in their cup or wine in their glass. Salut to pizza and beer bliss. For those that are not enjoying drinking soda, water, and tea is available. Currently these are not offered due to the lobby closures with the COVID virus. Only carry out and delivery are the ways to acquire their pizza pie happiness. For when better days return, maybe the lobby will allow seating to return. Until then one could put in that order for delivery or pickup and enjoy a slice along side the boardwalk of the sea.
